  1. It's 2:40 AM and we made it back from the game in Alcoa tonight! It was definately worth the trip. The game was close all the way until the fourth quarter and Alcoa blew it open. Alcoa completely dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. #1, Warren, is a beast out there defensively and #2, the FB, is a beast running the ball. The atmosphere tonight was completely awesome! Nothing like getting to a football game 3 hours before kickoff and already a couple thousand people inside the stadium. If there's a 3A playoff team in the state that can play Alcoa to within 3 TD's this year, I'd love to see 'em. Alcoa will be extremely tough to beat and they look to be even better than last year. I'd like to talk more about the game, but I'm fairly tired and going to hit the sack. Nice to talk to some of the Alcoa people tonight that knew who GCPioneer was off of coacht, lol. Thanks for the free stuff too!!!!!

P.S.... I bought me an Alcoa shirt. Got five?

Hey I'm glad you guys made it back. I was worried about that trip. I can tell you me and one of your friend's here in Johnson City talked about your trek to Alcoa yesterday. Do you know who I'm talking about. Your friend "JP" is a great guy..............his wife works for me. I think you or your friend went to church with them. I was tell his wife this week that someone from Dyer was driving over for the game and wouldn't you know her husband already knew about your plans. You are now LEGENDARY in my mind.

  2. Know quite a few kids on this year's in fact one of the lineman lives next door to me. They have more players acrross the front and their defense has been described as a "good tackling" team by one Dad. QB will be an issue IMHO. They may go with a Soph as he is an excellent runner ball handler. Plenty of runningbacks and lineman on this team with more than 80 on the roster. I really think this is one of the better 6A matchups across the state for week 0. I will be there.

  3. Maryville. I do believe they have the best staff in East Tenn but I think this will be week in and week out a much tougher schedule than what they are used to. I would not count out GQ but I still think it will be tough. I could be wrong and I am not counting them out just think it is a tough jump. Plus they do not have the big play speed guy this year from all accounts. That could hurt.

  4. Alcoa scrimmaged Clinton today.

Clinton scored first with a deep ball down to about the 5 yard line. The Clinton QB ran it in for a TD. The Clinton QB is the real deal. Alcoa moved the ball on their first two drives but could not scored within the 10 play format. Alcoa QB Tallant threw an interception on the third drive. After that Alcoa started to put pressure on Clinton QB and the defense started to gel. Alcoa's 1st team defense would not be scored on again. The Alcoa offense started to have some success both running and passing to Isom and T Rob. The Alcoa offense scored 3 times before the second teams took the field.

Alcoa's second team scored twice, Clinton's second team had not scored when I left.....

Both teams looked very good at the point in the season.

I expect Clinton to be a very good team this year.

Are the two Middle School Studs staying at Alcoa next year. They were the runningbacks......Crenshaw and ? (can't remember name).

  5. He did. In his senior year, 1982, he led WB to what was its biggest football win to date when the Govs beat Farragut in the west end.

WB lost the next week to Oak Ridge and didn't get the district title*, but it was the closest that WB has ever come to winning one out right.

(* There were only three teams that competed for the district title in those years, because other members of the district would not play Oak Ridge)

I was All County with Tony our Senior year which was 1983 so I believe he was a Junior in 1982.

  6. I think It was my sophomore year In high school when we had a big Ol Bad Dog named Toree , he got hit one night while out walking with me by a Volkswagon .... well he was one big bad dog , so from that day on he hated Volkswagons , he would chase down and bark at any Volkswagon that passed by the house like a mad dog , well one night during Maryville - Alcoa week I was in my bed about to go to sleep when I heard a bunch of noise outside , about 4 Alcoa guys ( probably APB, BCSPORTSFAN and friends /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> )were piling out of a car with toilet paper In their hands running towards our house ....... only problem was .... boy did they choose the wrong getaway vehicle .... by the time they retreated back to their Volkswagon and got it started there was a 100lb+ dog actually attacking their little Bug . He was actually biting the tires like a rabid dog ..... the hasty retreat was very similar to what happened that Friday night too .... lol.

Hey Sarahpalin... what's so funny about you , Is that you probably still don't get It ... sometimes It's best to just keep your mouth shut , otherwise everyone will figure out just how Ignorant you really are .

Ok Pep, this is interesting. What year did you graduate? This relates to your story. thanks

  7. I expect Rankin to at least look at two different openings...this would be one of them.

    I said look...not necessarily go.

What's the other school? I think it would take a big time Private School to get him, but I'm not sure he

will leave. I could be wrong but I would be surprised. 35 incoming 9th grader football players not counting

potential pick ups from County Middle Schools.....I just don't see it. He has the ball rolling..............what do you think APB?

  8. Crenshaw isn't going anywhere although they (Fulton) want him to. Koko will hopefully stay, but that is up in the air somewhat. I hope he stays because even though he is a great athlete he is an even better kid.

Thanks......why would Crenshaw go? Family in K'ville?

  9. congrats junior you are a fine quarterback and a great athlete. IMO you are the best qb to play at milan because you came in as a junior from another school and took the dog by the leash and got immediate results. quarters as a junior and finals as a senior. not too shabby brother. be proud and know that without you at the helm milan IMO would not have been at the state this year. some call you tebow but i'll call you junior because that's who you are. keep playing the game because i know for a fact that you'll contniue to contribute at the next level. great season

    JUSTIN "JUNIOR" COLEMAN, YOU ARE A BEAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

I have forgotten but what school did attend before transferring to Milan? Was it Gibson County?

  10. As do I! LOCKING DOWN THE STATE!

Well, you folks in Milan are on the clock..........you MUST preach UT to Avery over the next year. The UT/Milan Legacy is special over the years. Don't let him get away!!!!! Keep Urban and Saban away!!!! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

  11. Great game between 2 very good teams.

I thought Chase James and Sam Thompson played the safety position the way it's supposed to be played. The FB Tyson is an excellent blocker and worth the price of admission when him and Avery squared up on each other. Thompson is also a real good blocker at receiver.

Alcoa dominated time of possession and turnovers were too much to overcome. Alcoa makes very few mistakes as a team and are obviously well coached.

Jr. LB Avery Williamson #19 is the best LB prospect from TN. A little FYI for some Alcoa fans is that he won MVP LB at Ole Miss camp back in the summer. He's something special. Still can't believe he got slighted for a Mr. Football nomination.

Soph DE Christian Coleman #88 was a beast on the field last night. . I expect big things from him in 09'.

Both of these guys should be 4 or 5 star prospects if they keep working hard.

I expect a rematch next year as Milan returns 10 starters.

#19 is the best player I have seen all year period and I have seen a lot of good teams in Tenn this year in person or on CSS/TV. I sure hope Coach Kiffin was in the stands last night. And yes, Coleman will special as well.

  12. Wrong as always reitz. Alcoa did not dominate both sides of the line. Both defenses dominated the line of scrimmage. Alcoa- 2.9 yards per play Milan-3.5.(before the overzealous alcoa fans jump on this i realize the score is the only stat that matters, just making a point here) Our defense played extremely well. TOP was about 3:1 alcoa and the entire game took place on our side of the field. Yet we only gave up 172 yards and 21 points to the greatest team God ever allowed to put on pads. We just made too many mistakes to win against a team that didn't make any. The penalties, 3 TOs, trick punt return, and the HB pass. Just can't do it. We couldn't get anything done up front on offense. Gilbert was getting hit 3 yards in the backfield.

Congrats to Alcoa. Ya'll played like a championship team with flawless execution. One of the best D's I've ever seen. Amazing to have the ability to stuff the middle when you're playing 2 deep safetys. The issue of the playcalling is an unfounded argument. Our bread and butter is up the middle but we can't block anyone. Can't throw over their 2 deep safetys. And the good runs by Avery came late when Alcoa was a little worn and looked to win. Hard to get into a rythym when you can't even get a first down.

7 starters returning on both sides. Hope to see you again next year.

Good Points and I agree. It came down to execution. You guys are excellent and will be fine next year as will we as we are very, very young. Clean hard fought game........just came down to execution in key moments of the game.

  13. I had the priviledge of being the director of both those games, one of the hardest things i ever did was to run friends of mine out of the rest rooms betweem games. I was a young administrator, age 34 with four years experience as a high school principal and athletic director. I wish I could do it all over again. Clint Abbott

You did it correctly my man. You are one of the best things ever at Alcoa, especially during decade after the merger of Hall/Alcoa. You were firm, fair and took NO sides regardless of race or socio-economic background. You made many of us what we are today------A Man. "Class of 84"

  14. I'll give Alcoa credit. They have an excellent team. Coach Rankin is one of the legendary coaches in Tennessee. However, I wouldn't count Milan out. The core of this team went to the Semi-finals two years ago as Sophmores. They have a great defense and are very athletic. They have a good quarterback and two great running backs. One thing about Coach Morris is in Championship games he is 2-0 at Milan winning 2A in 98 and 3A in 99. Nobody gave us a chance in against an undefeated Lipscomb team in 1998 and we physically dominated them. Nobody gave us a chance against a good Portland team in 99 and we won that one too. I think this game will be closer than people think.

Oh, I can tell you most logical Alcoa fans have a ton of respect for Milan. I have NO feel for this game either way. Alcoa is not playing that well on offense and is a bit nicked up. Yes they have a huge roster (75-80 players) with plenty of kids ready to step in, but I'm not sure they have played a team in 2a with as many athletes Milan will have. So in saying this I am curious to see how they will react because quite honestly they haven't been challenged since that Huntington game in 2a that is. Alcoa is very physical on D and your guys will have to find a way to block/scheme away from Tyler Robinson who will be a 4 star type recruit next year. Again though, I'm not sure we can block your guys either. I'm sure the Milan kids are sick of hearing about Alcoa and will be "jacked" to play this game. That can also work against them as well. Have a safe trip and I hope the weather is decent.

  15. One more time for you Tornado89 you are another one who thinks I am Mr. Jeff Smith. To prove I am not Mr. Smith, check the times I post here. Sometimes I use a blackberry while I am at the games like last night. Mr. Smith is on the radio live so he would not be able to post. I have sons who helped the Rebels during this past 10 year run for Maryville and I love HS Football. I track several teams, Maryville being my #1 and some others and in various states. I am a student of the game, former player, and coach (Different levels) I try to call and tell it like I see it never forgetting the players are just kids.

Hope I again put that to rest.

It is hard to pick against Alcoa because there is little competition for them at 2A. There are several reasons I believe this to be so. Not their fault, they need to be the best they can be and right now at 2A they are the best. You'll win your 5th in a row and I'll watch it live like the last 4. Travel safe.

A team out west had a scare last night and no community needs something like that to happen.

My sources have seen you with your Blackberry................................I'm serious. /ph34r.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ph34r.gif" /> Anyway, I don't care really. Be careful and have fun in the Boro. By the way, I was in the stands last night.....in Greeneville. Hall is one heck of a player for Greeneville. I understand MTSU has offered. One of the best athletes I have seen this year.

  16. What? I want to stay out of this because some of my Alcoa neighbors don't care for my take on their program. But Alcoa is no Maryville! They are however among the best in many classifications and the stick that you measure a 2A team by. This year their defense may have set a school or state record in fewest points allowed. One really does not know because the T$$AA only cares about money and not keeping the record books up to date. Alcoa will beat Milan next Friday because they will score enough points to get beyond what their defense will allow. I think Alcoa will have to play 4 full qtrs, something they normally only do vs. Maryville. Maybe that is their one weakness. Good luck to both teams but I hoping Alcoa will bring another gold ball back east.

I'm shocked you are picking us against your alma mater!!!

  17. Send staff to watch us play then send tapes of your games to another town?? Classless

Blame the postal service. Probably someone from Bethel Springs!!! Just kidding, I had to get that in there. Dated someone for years from that area. I question their school systems /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" /> Seriously, I think the Alcoa Coaches could care less if you have every game to look at. They are above that. Heck you could have paid 20 bucks and watched every game on the web during the regular season.
