1. utc has not been solid over the past years but getting chris smith is the biggest gift they could ever recieve. honestly the most gifted athlete i have ever seen. i hit with him almost everyday now and i truely believe that when he gets to play year round with other good players he will become one of the best college players in the state. science hill behind chris smith was not a joke and i dont believe another public school team will compare. back to back to back. bearden just didnt have the talent back then ask the coaches.

One of the best college players in the state, are u serious....Tennessee is a top 5 national program, so u can put all 10 of those guys on the team ahead of him...Bearden from 1990 would beat this years Science Hill team 9-0 or 8-1...SH a nice little team in a watered down TSSAA 6 classification system

Bearden won 4 in a row from 98-01(same watered down state championships u have) ...u all have 4 so i guess thats even..what coaches are u talking about asking???

Smith is goiong to a school that won one match last year(bad conference) and he would probably play 3 or 4 for them last year according to when I asked Zannis ...so saying he will be a top college player in the state is laughable...I hope Im wrong bc he seems like a good kid with a good attitude....was happy to see him win state this year

  2. I watched Campbell play today against Knox Central. I was very impressed, he was scoring from outside and inside. Controlling the boards, and playing good defense. He's a great asset to Fulton and he is going to compliment Steele well. I'm looking forward to watching them this upcoming season.

How many times the Campbell family moved now???? That is some great parenting for a 16 year old young man, if things arent the way u like them, quit and and go to another school. That is really preparing him for life after school, because he isnt playing ball for a living anytime soon. He might want to consider his education at some point. What if he doesnt get his way at Fulton, I hear AE is looking for a good shooter for 2011

Blevins kinda deserves it , turnabout is fair play...Campbell, Demonte, Parker all moved in by Blevins to play

Now the ole karma is coming back to bite him in his ######

  3. No public/private split on this board, as far as I know. So who is/was the best, regardless of whether he played in the TSSAA or not? Roscoe Tanner? Zan Guerry? Brian Gottfired? Tim Wilkison? Andy Avram? Chris Woodruff?

There is a Chattanooga theme going on here because Chattanooga is easily the best tennis city in this state, by any measure you could come up with.

Woodruff is my vote, didnt play his senoir year(won doubles state his soph year and singles his jr year)...went on to win NCAA crown and turned pro after Sophmore year. Won a Masters Series event Toronto (Top 8 event on tour all top 20 players in world played) and one other event on tour and had wins against Sampras, Agassi, Courier, Googa, Kafelnikov(top 10 Russian at the time), Rios, Muster and Henman...rose to top 30(29 actually) in world and led the US team to a Davis Cup victory against South Africa by winning his Sunday Singles match (McEnroe captian). If he hadnt had messed his knee up while horsing around kicking a football around age 27 I think he coulda been a top 20 player for 3 to 4 years......went downhill after injury and he he retired 6 to 7 years ago....now UT assistant coach

Did Ben Testerman ever play high school tennis???? He has some pretty impressive pro credentials(Semi finalist of Australian Open) He is from Knoxville just dont know if he played high school

Todays very best players dont play high school....Rhyne Williams for example...This list will not be added to anytime soon. While there will be better players eventually come around they wont be playing in the TSSAA competitons

  4. BTW...to dawgs, playa or whomever.......

What has happend to American tennis? Why is US college tennis dominated by foriegn players? We are a nation of 300 million people. We are the richest nation in the world! Why are there no male American players contending for major titles anymore? Who is our best pro player these days? Andy Roddick? Please. What are we doing wrong???

Really quite an easy answer BillVol, its not the cool sport to be in now. At an early age kids start playing the sports they see on tv and America views as the most popular. These are football, basketball and baseball. The best of the kids see they are good at this and stick to it, never giving tennis try. How many of Americas best young athletes just play tennis when they are at then ages of 5-8, almost none. For example, Rhyne Williams from Knoxville, could be a great player in any sport he chose. He picked tennis(Depalmers grandchild) and concentrated on it totally and is now one of the top juniors in us if not the top. These kids are few and far between in the US

Im 37, tennis was cool to be involved in when i was younger. Connors, Mac, Borg.....tennis was at its height and people flocked to play it and brougt their kids along to learn the game. This was especially true in the Knoxville area and the Knoxville Raquet Club. They put out outstanding juniors with Woodruff being the prized pupil. This happened throughout the US and gave us Sampras and Agassi along with other great players

I also believe that Tiger Woods popularity has really driven the "country club kids" to the golf course instead of the tennis courts. While these normally arent the best athletes they are the ones that can afford top notch instruction from a young age and make some pretty good tennis players as they grow up..Now when given a choice by mom as to which lessons u want to in the Summer, alot of them pick golf because of Tiger and now tennis is only played for fun and never taken seriously by the kid

Tennis is now dying in the US, Im a coach at high school level in an affluent area of Knoxville. Over 2000 kids, and we had 7 girls tryout for the team(now one of them did win a state championship which was very exciting) That is an amazingly low number for a school this size and sums up what im talking about

  5. back in 90 the district winner was determined by the team to score the most points in the district tourney...webb pulled off the upset b/c John Fritts( 8th grader at time) beat Edwards in singles semi giving Webb one more point than Bearden. Bearden had beaten Webb in regular season a week earlier. Webb looked like this 1 Joe Nichols(ga tech) 2 Tony Ivins 3 John Fritts(UT) s 4 Shane Ivins 5 Clint Cope

Webb had there best team ever in 91 with the exact same lineup minus Cope and replaced with Blake McMeans( 8th grader).....lost to MUS in finals , up 3-2 going to doubles and with match tied 3-3 came down to 1 doubles and Nichols gets defaulted for cursing...tough way to lose a championship, Webb Boys have never won one

Woodruff best high school player Ive ever seen play, hands down

  6. The 1990 Bearden tennis team is the best i can recall and would EASILY defeat this Science Hill team ..got upset by Webb in districts(who lost to Baylor in state finals)...this is not even close.....Chris Woodruff 1(top 30 io world at one time) Anthony Edwards 2(played at Arizona State) Thomas Mozur 3 (played at ut and current unc greensboro coach) John Wilbanks 4(top 10 in state rankings every age group he played) Terry Abrams 5 very solid player

This would be 5-0 or 4-1 Bearden.with no doubles needed ....tennis championships are so diluted nowadays with all these classifications...bring back the good ole days of having one state champion...vogues knows all these players when he was at Knoxvile Racquet Club and i would think he would agree to my above statement

Tennis is way down overall in the boys side from years past.....Science Hill a nice team but best ever is not a true statement...Chris Smith a nice little player but he going to utc (1-18 last year) and would probably play 4 or 5 on that team

  7. QUOTE(Harris @ May 16 2007 - 08:56 PM) 826460647lol that is classic.

I mean does nobody talk to Rahnema at all?

Sure they talk to him, we had our awards ceremony Thursday night before the match, and the coach mentioned the match no less than 5 times. Player calls Rahnema at 4:30 on Friday, match time, and he is on the lake saying he forgot. As mentioned earlier, you can get mad, which everyone has, but all you can really do is laugh because it is a story that is hard to believe.

  8. QUOTE(titlebound @ May 16 2007 - 10:41 PM) 826460846The gray's house, not the school...

I can't believe that Oak Ridge is deep enough to beat Bearden even without Rahnema. Did Koehler beat Maltsberger?

Oak Ridge top two are good, Koehler beat Maltsberger like a drum and Uzzle is a very solid two, he beat Acker, thats Rahnemas spot. Acker woulda played 3, win, Fulton won anyway. Where it killed is the is the 4 and 5 spot. Oak Ridge easily won 4, Bearden wins with Fulton there and they won the 5 which Bearden wins if the real 5 plays. So down 4-1, match over instead of up 3-2. Science Hill woulda been been the end of the road more than likely anyway. Its still a shame that the season has to end on such a crazy situation. If you really think about it all u can really do is laugh. Make sure all the rest of you players put the times of the matches and dates into your planners. All Siegel players, the semis are on Tuesday and I will remind you on here again on Monday night

  9. Oak Ridge wins 4-1. Siegel and Science Hill in the final. Frustrating year for the Bulldogs. Started with Taylor not playing and ending with Rahnema forgetting about the match. Good luck to everyone, should be a great final

  10. QUOTE(TNtnns_07 @ May 16 2007 - 07:25 AM) 826460115tennessee high's girls team should win state this year. they have alot of depth this year with two freshmen in the line-up. one playing #2 and one #5

Houston is by far the best AAA team, wont even be close. Farragut is better than Tennessee High. Last time they played Farraguts #1 wasnt there. Farragut is the favorite in the match Thuirsday,

  11. QUOTE(limey107 @ May 4 2007 - 12:47 PM) 826451753Jimmy had blisters on his foot from playing Wes the day before. It was a bad idea to schedule back to back region matches against both McCallie and Webb, and it seems they're paying the consequences for it. I feel bad for Baylor though. It has been a rough week.

Yea i feel terrible for Baylor, they have a real rough go of it. I havent been able to sleep for 2 days, thinking about all the facilities they have and the players they can pull from everywhere. Those guys really have bad luck

  12. Science Hill won 5-1

    Maltsberger over Smith 3sets

    Greer over Acker 0-4

    Kerr over Rahnema 6-0

Story over Fulton 5-6 Fulton had 3 set points at 5-3 in first and was up 4-1 in 2nd

S Hill guy in straight sets at 5

    Eddy over Dail 4-2

Science Hill said that Wilkinson out for the year

If we play again dropping the 6 will help

    1 is a toss up

    2 Science Hill

3 Science Hill but it was close

4 this could go either way

    5 Science Hill

win two of these matches and u never know in doubs

Science Hill the definite favorite, but crazier things have happened

Tennessee High has a chance at them because their 5 and 6 can beat Science Hills from what I heard

Siegel is a big favorite if Wilkinson is out to win it all

  13. QUOTE(TNtnns_07 @ Apr 25 2007 - 07:58 AM) 826444887yes...wilkinson is out. with mono you are usually out for about 2 to 3 weeks sometimes more...it all depends on the person i guess...with him out it also evens out the THS SHHS match...but did i read that correctly when you said bearden only beat farragutt 5-4 this year?

It was 5-4. They actually shoulda won. Their #1 had Hunter down 5-1. If he wins that, Farragut wins. Bearden SHOULD beat them 6-3 or 7-2 , if everyone plays up to par. Farragut could definitely win if Beardens not ready to play.

So what is the story with your district right now TNtnns?? What if u beat Science Hill in the next match, who wins the district??

  14. The story is Wilkinson has mono. If that is the case, things would be alot more even. We will see how everybody matches up today b/c we play SH. How long is someone normally out with mono???? The region would be three weeks from Friday.

Bearden has to play Farragut for district championship next week..We only beat them 5-4 last time. Assuming we beat them Oak Ridge is next, who has two really good players . Win that and Science Hill. If Wilkinson plays, they are a BIG favorite. Without him, I think it can go either way. If he is out for the rest of the year, Siegel now becomes the favorite. Should be an interesting couple of weeks

  15. QUOTE(TNtnns_07 @ Apr 24 2007 - 07:41 AM) 826444017just out of curiosity...how does william blount do against the other knoxville teams? i dont know how they stack up with everyone else there

9-0 losses to both Farragutt and Bearden. They are not very good this year

  16. give me the predictions

    Hunter M vs Chris S

    Acker vs Greer

    Rahnema vs Wilinsinson

    Fulton Vs Story

    Dont know about 5

    Doubs

    Malt/Acker vs Greer/Wilk

    rah/ful vs smith/story

The sad thing is if Taylor P plays I think Bearden wins no prob now they are the prohibitive underdogs

Being bearden u have got to feel terrible about the pagt two years

Should be 2 time state champ. Fulton doesnt play last year, if he does they win. Patrick doesnt play this year, if he does they win

If I were their coach id be pulling my hair out. From two rings to no rings.

  17. Webb is a really good team. They should dominate the non divisional teams. Tennessee should dominate the schools from the non-bcs conferences, and they normally do. However they are judged on what they do in the SEC conference. Webb will be judged on how they do against Baylor and Mccallie and the other stuff really doesnt matter.

Do you remember Tennessees victory over Air Force or there losses to Florida and LSU.

Webb would beat any AAA team 8-1 to 7-2 maybe 6-3 at worst

They play Science Hill Tuesday, so we will see. The only other team would be Siegel, but I don think anything better than 7-2

  18. QUOTE(Harris @ Apr 5 2007 - 10:45 PM) 826431142The Chicago Bulls beat the Detroit Pistons by 25 the other night. And the night before, the Bulls lost to the Memphis Grizzlies. So by your reasoning, shouldn't the Memphis Grizzlies be able to beat the Pistons and thus be the #1 team in the Eastern Conference?

The USC Trojans beat Arkansas Razorbacks 50-14, so by your reasoning shouldnt the Oregon State Beavers beat Arkansas 38 points, 2 more than USC?

All of this has gotten way out of the context of the topic. The topic`was to answer who has the best AAA team. From what I gather, Tennessee High just got beat 9-0 by Science Hill, they are of the list. Talking does no good at all and TNN from Tennessee High looks like an idiot with his earlier posts. Im wonderin if it was rainin or if they had to wait around any???? We wont hear from him in a long time.

That leaves us with Siegel the favorite, Science Hill next and Bearden behind that. Before the season I would have put Bearden the favorite, but without Patrick they drop. Think if Siegel lost Wishing or Science Hill lost Smith, that is alot to overcome. Now, do I think Bearden can win it.... sure. But results speak volumes and really Bearden has only the win over Siegel LAST YEAR. Tennessee beat Florida 3 out of 4 the last 2 years. I dont think Florida loses any sleep over it because they have two rings. I dont think Tennessee is better than Florida, but the arguement could be made. All sports are judged in the playoffs and while the regular season is nice... its not what is remembered. Championships carry all the weight

This year should be fun, so lets not go overboard with all of smack talk. You see what it did for TNN, All of this will be answered in about 1.5 months. Just like Siegel answered all of the talk from last year.

  19. QUOTE(TNtnns_07 @ Feb 20 2007 - 09:08 AM) 826380760Tennessee High has really come on strong ths year. I look for them to go to state with a hard fought one over Science Hill. THS is very deep with top eight players being very solid. Doubles will be a factor this year. #1 dubs should be Kiser/Rockett, #2 Fletcher/ Wagner, #3 Tidwell/ Jones, Wilson

I dont call this being modest. When is the Science Hill match, this will answer lots of questions about who comes out of the region????

  20. QUOTE(TNtnns_07 @ Mar 30 2007 - 08:05 AM) 826426397What is ur problem? I just said that they were the better team...im gonna take it that you are one of those rich, stuck up @$#%^& that lives in the knoxville area, just like the webb boys...the only ones from webb that are actually modest are hatcher and walling and i respect them. But crist and parks are probably the most arrogant people i have ever met.

You are the least modest person on here, always talking about how good your team is. I have never said one word about our team. Unlike u we have a few results that speak for themselves... all u can do is talk.

"If it doesnt rain or we have to wait around we gotta chance... or if the ad points go our way " TNtnn 07

  21. QUOTE(nation_supp89 @ Mar 29 2007 - 11:26 AM) 826425805Actually I think Siegel and Bearden might could hang with Webb. Siegel could win at the one spot as well as the four and MAYBE the five...but it would be difficult. Webb is the better team. Honestly I think if Siegel and THS play (or I guess when they play) it will not even be a close match. THS could win at the two spot but I think it's all Siegel from there. Dawgs2 is Taylor Patrick not playing...?

He is not playin, which hurts this team. Its hard to lose your #1/2 and not be. We will still be quite good, but some players will really have to step up against the Science Hills/Siegels (and THS since TNtnns 07 wants to always be included in the conversation )

"As long as its not raining or we have to sit around much we can beat anybody" I really believe that

  22. QUOTE(TNtnns_07 @ Mar 29 2007 - 08:20 AM) 826425633actually...i dont...i wasnt making excuses i was just sayin. In case you didnt the read the whole thing...i did say they played better than us...so go sit back on the bench and watch the real teams play...

You really need to tell us they played better than you. I never would have guessed that from the scores in the paper(I have to admit, I wasnt there to see ALL of those no add points you lost, that really coulda have swung it your way

Considering im with Bearden ill take my chances with ya. We play Webb soon, and if it doesnt sprinkle or if we dont have to wait to long for the match, I think we got a chance

What would you call saying"the rain and sittin around didnt help much either" being.....nothing but an excuse. If not , why do you mention it.

You sure do talk alot for someone who has never won anything. You might have a great team, but until you prove it on the court, I wouldn't be talking alot. What has your team accomplished so far that deserves all of these accolades you seem to want. Give me a good answer with some results and I will be quiet.

The only thing im going by is your results this year and you got smoked by Webb. You thought you could play with them and it wasnt even close, but it did rain and u had to wait around some(i forgot).

Webb is ALOT better than any AAA school and for you to think you can play with them shows how misguided you are about your team. You can probably play with the AAA schools, but give me some results and I will listen to you sing your teams song all day long.

When is the Science Hill match????

  23. QUOTE(TNtnns_07 @ Mar 29 2007 - 07:16 AM) 826425587Actually the score doesnt do justice of how the matches were. They were battled but THS couldnt pull out the duece points. It wasnt our day...honestly they just played more aggressive and it showed. The rain and sittting around to wait for courts didnt help much either. But they have improved alot since last year. David Parks played a grat match and Taylor Crist stepped it up too.

When u get beat 6-0 that is total domination. Tennis players make up more excuses than any sport I know. The rain and sitting around had nothing to do with it. If u played them 100 times they would beat u 100.. just say they were better than us and move on. There is no comparison to AAA and div 2

Looking in the paper,in the first five matches there wasnt a score better than 8-3 and 6 singles went to 8-5. That is not even remotely a close match. Well i guess if it was sunny u woulda had a chance. Do you realize how dumb that last post was
