One of the best college players in the state, are u serious....Tennessee is a top 5 national program, so u can put all 10 of those guys on the team ahead of him...Bearden from 1990 would beat this years Science Hill team 9-0 or 8-1...SH a nice little team in a watered down TSSAA 6 classification system Bearden won 4 in a row from 98-01(same watered down state championships u have) ...u all have 4 so i guess thats even..what coaches are u talking about asking??? Smith is goiong to a school that won one match last year(bad conference) and he would probably play 3 or 4 for them last year according to when I asked Zannis ...so saying he will be a top college player in the state is laughable...I hope Im wrong bc he seems like a good kid with a good attitude....was happy to see him win state this year
  2. How many times the Campbell family moved now???? That is some great parenting for a 16 year old young man, if things arent the way u like them, quit and and go to another school. That is really preparing him for life after school, because he isnt playing ball for a living anytime soon. He might want to consider his education at some point. What if he doesnt get his way at Fulton, I hear AE is looking for a good shooter for 2011 Blevins kinda deserves it , turnabout is fair play...Campbell, Demonte, Parker all moved in by Blevins to play Now the ole karma is coming back to bite him in his ######
  3. Parents had a huge blow up with Blevins concerning his older brother not getting recruited...The White kid is supposedly leaving also....Blevins will have his work cut out for him next year
  4. Woodruff is my vote, didnt play his senoir year(won doubles state his soph year and singles his jr year)...went on to win NCAA crown and turned pro after Sophmore year. Won a Masters Series event Toronto (Top 8 event on tour all top 20 players in world played) and one other event on tour and had wins against Sampras, Agassi, Courier, Googa, Kafelnikov(top 10 Russian at the time), Rios, Muster and Henman...rose to top 30(29 actually) in world and led the US team to a Davis Cup victory against South Africa by winning his Sunday Singles match (McEnroe captian). If he hadnt had messed his knee up while horsing around kicking a football around age 27 I think he coulda been a top 20 player for 3 to 4 years......went downhill after injury and he he retired 6 to 7 years ago....now UT assistant coach Did Ben Testerman ever play high school tennis???? He has some pretty impressive pro credentials(Semi finalist of Australian Open) He is from Knoxville just dont know if he played high school Todays very best players dont play high school....Rhyne Williams for example...This list will not be added to anytime soon. While there will be better players eventually come around they wont be playing in the TSSAA competitons
  5. Really quite an easy answer BillVol, its not the cool sport to be in now. At an early age kids start playing the sports they see on tv and America views as the most popular. These are football, basketball and baseball. The best of the kids see they are good at this and stick to it, never giving tennis try. How many of Americas best young athletes just play tennis when they are at then ages of 5-8, almost none. For example, Rhyne Williams from Knoxville, could be a great player in any sport he chose. He picked tennis(Depalmers grandchild) and concentrated on it totally and is now one of the top juniors in us if not the top. These kids are few and far between in the US Im 37, tennis was cool to be involved in when i was younger. Connors, Mac, Borg.....tennis was at its height and people flocked to play it and brougt their kids along to learn the game. This was especially true in the Knoxville area and the Knoxville Raquet Club. They put out outstanding juniors with Woodruff being the prized pupil. This happened throughout the US and gave us Sampras and Agassi along with other great players I also believe that Tiger Woods popularity has really driven the "country club kids" to the golf course instead of the tennis courts. While these normally arent the best athletes they are the ones that can afford top notch instruction from a young age and make some pretty good tennis players as they grow up..Now when given a choice by mom as to which lessons u want to in the Summer, alot of them pick golf because of Tiger and now tennis is only played for fun and never taken seriously by the kid Tennis is now dying in the US, Im a coach at high school level in an affluent area of Knoxville. Over 2000 kids, and we had 7 girls tryout for the team(now one of them did win a state championship which was very exciting) That is an amazingly low number for a school this size and sums up what im talking about
  6. back in 90 the district winner was determined by the team to score the most points in the district tourney...webb pulled off the upset b/c John Fritts( 8th grader at time) beat Edwards in singles semi giving Webb one more point than Bearden. Bearden had beaten Webb in regular season a week earlier. Webb looked like this 1 Joe Nichols(ga tech) 2 Tony Ivins 3 John Fritts(UT) s 4 Shane Ivins 5 Clint Cope Webb had there best team ever in 91 with the exact same lineup minus Cope and replaced with Blake McMeans( 8th grader).....lost to MUS in finals , up 3-2 going to doubles and with match tied 3-3 came down to 1 doubles and Nichols gets defaulted for cursing...tough way to lose a championship, Webb Boys have never won one Woodruff best high school player Ive ever seen play, hands down
  7. The 1990 Bearden tennis team is the best i can recall and would EASILY defeat this Science Hill team ..got upset by Webb in districts(who lost to Baylor in state finals)...this is not even close.....Chris Woodruff 1(top 30 io world at one time) Anthony Edwards 2(played at Arizona State) Thomas Mozur 3 (played at ut and current unc greensboro coach) John Wilbanks 4(top 10 in state rankings every age group he played) Terry Abrams 5 very solid player This would be 5-0 or 4-1 Bearden.with no doubles needed ....tennis championships are so diluted nowadays with all these classifications...bring back the good ole days of having one state champion...vogues knows all these players when he was at Knoxvile Racquet Club and i would think he would agree to my above statement Tennis is way down overall in the boys side from years past.....Science Hill a nice team but best ever is not a true statement...Chris Smith a nice little player but he going to utc (1-18 last year) and would probably play 4 or 5 on that team
  8. Sure they talk to him, we had our awards ceremony Thursday night before the match, and the coach mentioned the match no less than 5 times. Player calls Rahnema at 4:30 on Friday, match time, and he is on the lake saying he forgot. As mentioned earlier, you can get mad, which everyone has, but all you can really do is laugh because it is a story that is hard to believe.
  9. Oak Ridge top two are good, Koehler beat Maltsberger like a drum and Uzzle is a very solid two, he beat Acker, thats Rahnemas spot. Acker woulda played 3, win, Fulton won anyway. Where it killed is the is the 4 and 5 spot. Oak Ridge easily won 4, Bearden wins with Fulton there and they won the 5 which Bearden wins if the real 5 plays. So down 4-1, match over instead of up 3-2. Science Hill woulda been been the end of the road more than likely anyway. Its still a shame that the season has to end on such a crazy situation. If you really think about it all u can really do is laugh. Make sure all the rest of you players put the times of the matches and dates into your planners. All Siegel players, the semis are on Tuesday and I will remind you on here again on Monday night
  10. Oak Ridge wins 4-1. Siegel and Science Hill in the final. Frustrating year for the Bulldogs. Started with Taylor not playing and ending with Rahnema forgetting about the match. Good luck to everyone, should be a great final

Houston is by far the best AAA team, wont even be close. Farragut is better than Tennessee High. Last time they played Farraguts #1 wasnt there. Farragut is the favorite in the match Thuirsday,
  12. Yea i feel terrible for Baylor, they have a real rough go of it. I havent been able to sleep for 2 days, thinking about all the facilities they have and the players they can pull from everywhere. Those guys really have bad luck
  13. The way some Bearden players are playing there is no doubt it would be a match, with u probably favored
  14. Science Hill won 5-1 Maltsberger over Smith 3sets Greer over Acker 0-4 Kerr over Rahnema 6-0 Story over Fulton 5-6 Fulton had 3 set points at 5-3 in first and was up 4-1 in 2nd S Hill guy in straight sets at 5 Eddy over Dail 4-2 Science Hill said that Wilkinson out for the year If we play again dropping the 6 will help 1 is a toss up 2 Science Hill 3 Science Hill but it was close 4 this could go either way 5 Science Hill win two of these matches and u never know in doubs Science Hill the definite favorite, but crazier things have happened Tennessee High has a chance at them because their 5 and 6 can beat Science Hills from what I heard Siegel is a big favorite if Wilkinson is out to win it all
  15. It was 5-4. They actually shoulda won. Their #1 had Hunter down 5-1. If he wins that, Farragut wins. Bearden SHOULD beat them 6-3 or 7-2 , if everyone plays up to par. Farragut could definitely win if Beardens not ready to play. So what is the story with your district right now TNtnns?? What if u beat Science Hill in the next match, who wins the district??
