Same thing was said about Rankin. That's a crock. SC would of never been worse than 8-2 had Maynord stayed. He didn't leave because of a drop in talent. 

SC started downhill after Maynord left. It has nothing to do with this year. 20 something players tells u all u need to know. 

So your trying to tell me that SC has a drop in talent. Jimmy Maynord was at SC for 14 years. His "drop in talent" was a 7-3 season. The only drop SC has had is coaching talent. A solid coach will never have a losing season at any school. Period   SC isn't dedicated to winning right now. Maybe one day it will return. 

Looks like SC is in the same position it was in after Maynord left. Nobody they want will take the job and they have to settle for who will. I agree...SC won't be back for a good while. 

Coach Gentry's ties to Smith Co are pretty deep. I did hear he talked to the administration. Obviously they didn't convince him to come back. He has a kid thats close to high school age so maybe thats why he even sat down with SC. But I think he must be pretty happy at Lebanon. If you told me 2 years ago that he would be offered the SC job I would of told you he was a lock to take it. Things change pretty fast when you win. 

It's gone quiet on the coaching search. Who's the front runner now?  

I guess the sayin is true...Once a Blue Devil  always a Blue Devil!!! Chuck Gentry has turned down the Smith Co job. If they can't get him nobody can. Go Big Blue!! 

Heard that Gentry turned down the SC job. Great news for Lebanon!! Hope SC finds a good one. 

Heard from my source that Smith Co thinks they have a shot at landing Gentry. SC must be stepping up!!

Ive been digging with the Smith Co guys I know. He has been contacted for the opening. Thats all they know. And he has for sure done a great job at Lebanon. The only better pick for Smith Co Is Gary Rankin. And I do not see Rankin being interested at all. 

With the Smith Co Head Coaching  job opening up yesterday will Chuck Gentry leave Lebanon?  I know is a Smith Co graduate and still lives in Carthage. Im sure he is a target. 

With no news coming out of Riverdale yet it seems to me their 1st choice for the job has turned them down. If the Brentwood Coach turns them down too who will take the job? Seems like nobody wants to follow Rankin.

He wont take it either he lives a good distance from here and he wont move that is part of the reason he left the first time it was too long of a drive everyday

 

This could be true. But the Coach at Smith Co. (Maynard?) will be offered the job. Whats with the Riverdale-Smith Co. connection? I dont get it.

Im not real smart but I do know that Satterfield coaches in 1A. This guy has ties to Riverdale. Thats all I know at this point. I will work on it more.

Being from east Tennessee I dont have a dog in this race, but from what I heard its a 2A coaches job to have or turn down. Im sorry I dont know his name.

Just assuming, that's all, taking into consideration he'd be going from a 5-A school to a 2-A. Plus, there's a lot of work that the hc does that he doesn't get paid for.

If he already did get offered the job, there'd be a whole slew of ticked off parents, that's for sure. I don't think the admin is that stupid (I would hope not, anyway).

If you are a ticked off parent I hope you keep it yourself. Gary Rankin will be in charge. And he will not hesitate to show you so. If you dont believe me, look at his track record. You might not like him, but you will love the results.

Sorry to burst the old rumor bubble, but applications are still being received until tomorrow. Interviews start the 10th. Of course, I'm not one of the "important ones", but I don't see how Alcoa could pay Rankin his asking price if they couldn't pay Reid what he was asking for.

Don't think many people in Alcoa want a coach who is ready to retire...I understand they're looking for someone who will be around for a while (meaning more than 3-4 years). Also, I heard they're looking for somebody with ties to Blount Co. to increase the chances he'll be around for a while.

Could be wrong, but hope I'm not.

I guess he will have ties to Blount Co. when he moves there. Like I said....its a done deal. Rankin is the new Coach at Alcoa. What about Riverdale? Who is in line for the job?

Never underestimate a pointing birddogg....as for hope...Id hope for a solid new Coach. It will be hard to replace Gary Rankin. And replace him you must. He is Alcoas new Coach. If you dont believe me just ask.

Who will be the next Coach at Riverdale?

is alcoa going to pay him what he asks? i think the riverdale job is better than the alcoa job (with riverdale being 5A) but i think his purposes is strickly to get a raise in pay.

 

alcoa should be a dominant force for years already having a great program and the best coach in tennessee. hopefully rankin will still be at riverdale but of course it doesnt suprise me if he did take the job, but i wont believe it till its confirmed

Its done....Rankin has accepted the job. Everybody thats important knows. Whos Riverdales next coach?

Nope....Rankin is gone. My friend from Alcoa told me its a done deal...hes the next HC of the tornados.
