  1. We were given the option of running (along with the 4x8 and 4x4) either the open 800 or open 400. Our anchor leg ran the great eight and finished with a 201 (even though he got boxed bad and had a bad race) and there he realized no matter what he ran mahaney would still probably pull out just enough to beat him, and it could cost him and our 4x4 a good time and possible state win. One of our other legs choose to run the open 400 but scratched himself at region because he also felt it would not be possible for him to run his best in the 4x4. The rest of us instantly choose to go with what would be our best chance at the strongest finish in state. And 4x4 is gonna be so crazy, its up in the air and its anybody's race i don't think its even possible to pick a favorite because anyone could be a little off or a little on by less than a second and it changes the whole out look of the race

thats very respectable. I was just curious

  2. The meet was held at USJ in Jackson. I trust them over a memphis hand timed school.

Sweet... I just know that last year there were atleast three, maybe four guys coming out of the west section who supposedly broke 11 by very significant amounts. Then at state those guys were no where near being under 11.

  3. They're going to need everything they have in the 4x400. It's debatable how many of them would get to state in the 800 (thanks Mahaney, Wasserman, etc) and with the 4x4 running a 3:28, that puts them in contention with Brainerd, Tyner, Fulton and CAK as well as anyone from out west and the middle right behind them.

4x4 is going to be nuts.

Thats a fair point, but considering that 3rd and 4th place are going to state with a 2:01.9x and a 2:03.xx I would think they could have atleast qualified 1, possibly 2. and still qualified the 4x400. It then would have been their decision at state whether they wanted to bail on the 800 and make a run for the 4x400. However, I do respect them not wasting qualifying spots if their main goal is the 4x400, and clearly they have a great shot at winning.

  4. Good question, the SC open 800 finalist also ran the 3200m previously on Tuesday running a 10:09, then the 4x8 Thursday... so my guess is he was probably tired or he just had a bad race. The reason being why they didn't have a good showing in the open 800 is because they all run the 4x4 except one.

So they didn't think they could run a good open 800 and a good 4x400? Interesting.

  5. Middle sectional is being probably finished up right now. Give a couple hours for the results to be posted.

Someone please explain to me how Station Camp can run an 8:10 solo 4x800, which is an average of 2:02.5 per person, and yet only have one person in the open 800, and that person only runs a 2:04.xx. It seems to me that Station camp should have had a solid showing in the open 800. Just curious.

  6. We all got used to GJ running about 1:54 like it was his job, solo.

Very true. I just think it would be nice if A/AA could get to the point where the state champion in the 800 could year in and year out run more in the 1:56 -1:58 range instead of the 1:59-2:00 range. Compared to the rest of the state, alot of times our 800 times aren't that respectable. Especially considering how many teams put emphasis on the 4x800. I know in middle Tennessee, station camp, DL, MLK, FRA, always put a pretty big emphasis on 4x800's

  7. 3200: Mahaney. He'll sit around for a while and then let loose late. Musick and Cole should be relatively close, I'd imagine all 3 go under 9:47, but not like 9:30.

    1600: Mahaney. The kid's a 4:22 guy, seriously.

800: I don't know how I can go against the kid. Mahaney one more time.

My state status hinges on running about 3:30 in the 4x4 at sectionals. Count on it not.

I do get one last race though, on my home track so what a way to go.

Good luck to all of you guys. I will most likely be in Orlando at the time but will probably be constantly checking in with Mark Voyles to see how everyone does.

I'm still of the opinion that a 1:59/2:00 really has no business winning state =), but judging from the fact that no one else has stepped up from across the state then I have to agree. Because this will be Mahaney's third race, he should be prime for beating, but I think even a fatigued Mahaney will run no worse than a 2:00. Judging from the other times from across the state, I think that he will win.

  8. I highly doubt Mahaney will take the triple. In the 3200 he will have too much competition with Cole, Musick, Coniglio, and Snyder. He will win but that will not be an easy race for him. I think he will win the mile fairly easily, but I don't think he will win the 800. There are too many schools like MLK, FRA, and the occasional Memphis school that produce 800 specialists. I don't see Mahaney running much faster than 1:59 at best, and most years that will not win the 800. However, if the 800 ends up like last year where no one takes the lead and the first lap goes out at 62, Mahaney will have a shot.

    This topic is pretty dead /sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

i guess we can get it started the only way i know how

    Will mahaney take the triple?

if you dont think so who will stop him in what event?

  9. Yeah, I know exactly how you feel.

I was glad to see Coniglio blow at State with his Willy Wonka lookin self. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

It really stinks to talk alot of smack, and then you dont back it up.

Hey dude, I have an idea, you can start talking crap about people the day you win a state championship. Until that day, back of Conigs.....

  10. You won't be going five miles any pace. Unless you are racing somewhere other than Chattanooga, the race you are referring to is an 8km road race. Check your facts before spouting crap on this board. You don't own it. Don't act like you do.

Anyway, you stunk at State, after I went out on a limb in your name. I'm starting to doubt whether or not you actually ran that 16:0x at Owens. Or wondering if perhaps you cut the course. It wouldn't be difficult to do right before mile two, before going around the Indian mound.

I really hope this comment was in jest because there was really no need for these harsh words. Seriously dude? you're gonna point out the difference between an 8k and a 5 mile??? practically the same thing

  11. no they didn't.

If you want to run a PR, find another course.

But seriously, he makes a good point.

I think a lot of people stink on the second mile because they go out to fast first mile, which kills you for the second mile because you end up trying to recover on the easiest mile of the course. Then people hit the third mile, and they are out of it mentally. My solution to a good steeple race is run the first mile intelligently

  12. The problem with having a weak 5th man is that it puts an incredible amount of pressure on the 1-4 guys. You can win with a 5th man at 18:30 as long as the other guys run like they should. However there is no room for error, and one guy having a below average day could really screw the teams chances. This, I believe is another weakness for MLK. Because more than likely they do not have a front runner that will be in the top 5, they really need their 1-4 guys to run close and run fast. MC and DL atleast have front runners. I think DL is dangerous because if their 2 and 3rd guys have an above average day, they could be near the MLK pack. With Musick up front, it could make things very interesting. With MC, clearly things could get interesting with their top two guys more than likely being in the top 5. I know nothing about Station Camp or Dyesburg. I do believe that USJC will be in the top 3

  13. What about Kessler? He beat Musick the other day, but it was at union i do believe

I know nothing about the Union course, so I cannot tell you how it compares to steeple. I don't know anything about this Kessler kid either, but i seriously doubt he can hang with Musick on steeple. Does Kessler have a steeple time yet?

Haven't I said that once already?

Yes. Yes, I believe I have.

o, and I apologize Mr.Couch. I simply wanted to put my two cents in, it just so happened my two cents agreed with your two cents

  14. Go back to the Tennessee Classic and AF Bridges meets, as well as anything you can dig up from District.

    And start there.

if you go straight from steeple times. It is obviously, Mahaney, Mark Cole, then Musick, but, and I know Conigs will never admit this, I can guarantee you that coniglio will be right in the middle of this group, because a 16:04 on Jesse Owens on a pretty warm day is a great time. I think Conigs will easily be in the 16:30's possibly the 16:20's. Simply because i think that the Jesse is around 20 seconds fast than steeple.

  15. I hear that Mexican Cowboys are wierd /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" /> /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

Mahaney is by no means unbeatable in a/aa, and on a course like Steeplechase, any given day can produce some weird times. I still think Mahaney is the favorite, but 16:31 on steeplechase is a great time by Mark Cole. Thats the fastest time by an a/aa runner on steeple chase besides mahaney in a long time.

  16. Chickasaw Trails is held at the lovely Jesse Owens Classic racecourse. And it is completely legit. It's where Johnson went 16:29 last year, I went 16:37 my sophomore year.

Great place for a PR. I'm glad I'm going back at the beginning of October. It's very very fast and on the right morning where the sun stays away, the course gives you a tailwind. In all directions.

yeah its a legit 5k, although, i personally think that what the course lacks in hills it makes up for with its retarded switchbacks. However, is it a fast course, yes. Is it faster than steeple chase, yes. Is it a minute fast?? no. On a good day weather wise i can see a time that is 30 to 35 seconds faster than a persons steeple chase pr. I pr'd by 18 seconds on the course when heat index was well over 100. So i can see these times being legit

  17. Well I have the 411 on the budding superstar, MaHOWNey. He didn't hurt himself running up a hill. He has injured his back when a XC teammate knocked him off the couch while they were playing FIFA 2000 on an XBox 360. Not that it matters, but he also sprained a finger too.

Do not know how this will effect his running??? How long??? How much to train??? His XBo

do they make fifa 200 for the xbox 360??? I think not

  18. /bored.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bored:" border="0" alt="bored.gif" />

Dude, this could shake things up a bit, maybe I'll qualify for state this year just knowing that the title is again on the ground.

    /bored.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bored:" border="0" alt="bored.gif" />

Mahaney would have to be out over 3 weeks with no running at all for someone to be able to catch him. He is just too strong. If he is out this long, things get very interesting, because the guys contending for the 2-5 spots are very solid

  19. However it is scored there is nothing anybody can do.

Im running in a costume this year baby, OCTOBER 31.

thats sweet that our state meet is on halloween

lipscomb lost their 1 and 3 man, and i would never count FRA out, they just grow runners at their school

  20. First off DL did not win by a long shot... I'm pretty sure everyone expected them to win it going in. And we'll just agree to disagree on the paper's love of all things DL

i think he was attempting to say that we won by a ton. The paper may love DL in other sports, however, i do have to agree that the xc and track field side of things does not get a lot of coverage, but when does xc and track ever get coverage?. And i'll be honest, if we did not have one of the best football players in the state who can go to pretty much any school he wants to running for our team, we probably would not have gotten hardly in coverage in track...................... As for whether anyone will beat mahaney, as long as people attempt to run a lousy pace and kick, no mahaney will not get beat. The only way anyone can win that kind of race against him is if they a) have the lead with at least 300 to go and have a great kick or B) turn on the kick when mahaney is not expecting it and gap him late in the race. No one who is behind mahaney with 300 left will beat him. I think the best way to beat mahaney would be to force the pace early, and take away his kick, but mahaney is clearly the strongest runner in a/aa and i don't think anyone could push mahaney enough to take away his typical sub 64 last lap....... i am now done with high school sports, good luck to everyone next year, i'll be keeping an eye on everyone, but as far as coacht postings are concerned, I am finished
