  1. Unless there is a complete change in the mind set/game plan, I wouldn't look for the ball to be spread around any more than it has been this year. It doesn't seem as though change is welcome at Indy this year. That will be the 'statement' you can expect to be made if it's business as usual this week for Indy.

It's hard for a QB to make a secondary look silly if he only looks downfield once and then pulls it down and runs. I wouldn't blame all of this on the receivers as I've seen them open plenty of times before and after the QB decided to run it. But then, that's just my opinion/observation.

Its not a mind set or game plan. They have a good game plan, spread out in a sense that its going to be thrown more this week. Change is always welcome, Eubanks is far from a strict guidelines coach, hes very open to change. He pulls it down to run because on several occasions players have dropped wide open catches. Heckman is fine and he gets the ball to the open receivers when he can. You cant blame the kid for having the ability to go the distance on a scramble. But true thats just an observation. The obly business that will be made is a jump start towards this long strectch for indy. TRUST ME it will be a statement week regardless of the competition.

  2. Indy Nation is sub par this year compared to the previous years. Too concerned about how ridiculous they look than how ridiculously loud they bring it. Yes they fill the stands but no life is in the crowd. Regardless of record or game, your support has to be in it at all times!! Enough about them, football is why were on this. Bottom line is its Statement Week for indy! Last years bunch came together and handled it and turned this season around, do i believe this young team has the ability? Absolutely! All they need is a small spark and this team will turn it on and could compete with anyone they face. I dont care about the progress DC has made week by week, the game is in Indys hands, they alone decide the outcome of the game. Look for the ball to spread around evenly and for Heckman to make their secondary look silly. I'd like to see him throw more and less running, but he has to have hands to catch it and maybe is why he holds it more. Ty Stannard, Jonathan Norman, along with Thomas Berry and Cameron Williams will be the playmakers tonight in this one. They play to their ability and this isnt a close match.

    IHS: 31

    DCHS: 14

  3. Indy's line improved ALOT in the past week. I really dont think their play was "porous" I think Consiglio hit the holes right and the backup Meeker did not. When Consiglio ran it was for 5 or more yards with the exception of one or two carrys.

  4. Good post.

Well its hard to determine who won this one because if you want to count every score, I believe Indy took it by like 2 TD's. But if you count the 1st teams scores then I think LaVergne won it by 3 because of the INT for a TD late in the scrimmage before 1st team was benched. Then again, they didn't count the blocked punt because they wasn't moving the ball on special teams so we lucked out. Its hard to tell.

    First on Independence.

I think they will have a solid season this year. Cordell is a pretty good QB. Offensive line looked like their weakest spot to me on the field. Secondary did a good job on our WR's for the most part. Baugh will be Indy's playmaker if they use him more often. #12 is a beast. Offense and defense. I think thats Ryan Constigilio(sp??).

LaVergne's defense looked great. Gave up a couple of big plays, however, all of them were on 2nd stringers. But thats what scrimmages are for. LaVergne's secondary looks very, very, VERY promising. DB's did a great job against a good passing team, especially without all-state CB, Justin Bather, he's still sidelined. Defense also looked good on goal line run. Indy had some big tailbacks and defense stopped them a couple of times on goal line. There is still just a tiny hole to fill on the D-line. All big runs by Indy were right up the middle. They rarely ran to Ukwu's side and when they did, they didn't get much.

LaVergne's offense looked "ok" for the most part. Randall Tillery will be one of the best backs in the mid-state. Offensive line did a pretty good job, however the pass block wasn't too good. WR's made plays and didn't have any flat out drops. I think Gray might of had around 100yds and a TD. The #3 WR, Darnell Horton wasn't at the scrimmage either. Crocker and Williams both made good strides and bad. Crocker did good for the most part, but he tries to do more than he has to sometimes. On 3rd and short he will attempt a Vick scramble and its not necessary, he also has to learn to tuck the ball or start throwing it away. Williams and Crocker both ran the ball excellent on traps and speeds. Williams is a great runner with legit 4.6 speed. Williams arm looked good. The only bad decision I saw Williams make was on a option pitch. That can be corrected. Crocker had an off night so I would say Williams looked better last night. Whoever the QB is, they will get it done if they realize how many weapons they have around them. Also, be on the lookout for backup RB, Trey Oliver. He averaged about 6 yards a carry last night and will definately see some carries this year.

All in all, good test for both teams.

That late interception was against the second team offense from indy just to add that in there..

  5. As an outside observer of the program, there are many good and bad things about it. First, Smith had total control of the team mo matter who was the disciplinarians. He is a ball of football knowledge. Secondly, Coach Eubanks has learned much from Smith and is at a point now where he would be a great head coach. Coach Bobby has a knack for getting players motevated and would be a decent choice for a defensive coordinator, but he needs to learn how to control his emotions. And not over think what to do on defense. Thirdly, the offensive staff is in good hand. Offensive line coach is improving each year and Felts and Taylor have both groomed under Smith with each having charecteristics that good elevate this team to better things. The coaching staff is young and vibrant and a change will bring out the best in all of them. The young guys on offense just need a chance to do more to see what they are made of. Eubanks would be the right choice for everyone, but will Webb make the right choice or make a choice that fits her. But, no matter what these kids are the biggest thing. My son graduated this year and I want to see this next class achieve great things. They have the potential. On offense they have many weapons. But, make no mistake Cordell is the key of the offese. No matter what anybody says that team last year would not have improved as much without him. Pettigrew is the rock, he just needs more touches. On defense one name says it all Consiglio. Has a chance to be all state. Whoever gets the job will wakeup smiling each day because the cupboard is stocked full.

Very well put, pettigrew does need more touches. Cordell did help, yes but when you've got a good core group of WR's you just have to put the ball in the area and they'd go get it.. Which in all honesty thats what happend nearly 50% of the time they made big plays for him and he should grow and become even better if he works hard in the off season, Coach Bobby is just fine the way he is, i believe that emotion is the spark that this team needed and whether or not people believe its too much and over the top.. It was what this team needed..Consiglio is indeed the key to that defense but dont be surprised if you hear Thomas Berry's name called alot or Jonathon Robinson and if Coffee wants it bad enough thats another big name for that D. Felts would be a good choice for the oc... he knows the offense and made some big play calls this past season. And yes

it is stocked full from top to bottom!

  6. Hey tnsparty, sorry to hear about Coach Smith leaving so suddenly. I know that really caught everyone by surprise.

Tell Nate & the boys to hang in there. They'll hire a good coach before you know it. When Coach A left Hillsboro for Riverdale last year many of the boys were devastated but before you know it Coach Blade was hired & the program is as solid as ever. There are a lot of excellent coaches out there that work hard & care about the kids.

Wouldn't Independence look great running Markum's Double Wing?? :thumb:

That would not be very wise, we have a solid recieving core and a qb's who love to throw it, yes the talented running back scott pettigrew would love to see that but we need a balanced offense because of the talent on offense is everywhere.

  7. Wow, this was unexpected!

Those Indy fans that have commented on the Centennial coaching search will now have to live the same drama. After leading the Independence Eagles to their best season in school history, Scott Smith has left to take on the Science Hill position. I had heard nothing about the possibility of Smith leaving, so this was a pretty much a suprise to me and the others. What's next for the Eagles?

They'll be just fine, that group of rising seniors will prove that no matter the case they will show their leadership and work even harder. The style of offense or defense may change but that team has too much talent for them not to be a contender still for next season.

  8. Led Ezell-Harding to state championship a fews years back. Started up the program at Independence. Went 7-3 (the schools 3rd year overall) this year nearly missing the playoffs in a very very competeative region. Proponent of the spread offense.

Left before the best year, returning nearly 30 seniors only losing 6 starters total... For the life of me i can not understand why he would leave this up coming class..?? Science Hill good luck HOPEFULLY he wont leave ya'll out to dry!

  9. Indy did not capitalize on big plays.. After the onside recovery indy's offense goes 3 and out. That can't happen, that was a big chance to get the full momentum in our favor. Indy's D stepped up and played huge. Offense played well, some bad judgements on Cordells part at times. Too many dropped balls by the wideouts two for touchdowns, possibly 3. The field goal should've been made. Indy had this game in their hands they just did not capitalize. Indy played their hearts out just didn't come up with some big plays when they needed them. Good luck to our region in the playoffs, we know yall will represent us well.

  10. That would be that whole "Independece is Overrated" coming into play. I've said it all year long, Independence has failed to win any big time games except for Franklin, and that was only because Sellers and Campbell were hurt. Now that they have some tough teams to play against, it's do or die. Should they lose against both Ravenwood and Brentwood, they're done.

Your dumb.. Obviously we did not demolish every other team except fhs and dchs.. Cambell was fine played the entire game just couldnt do anything against our d. Sellers played and when he did he didnt do anything he got HURT by indy's D. DCHS played hard and that game could've gone either way. Same can be said for indy if Cordell would've played indy would've put more points up against them. Fact is indy is for real and whether you like it or not there not overrated. DUMMY!

OH and by the way FHS will win by 10

  11. I believe this will be the game.... Ravenwood does not want to lose therefore I predict Ravenwood will win. They look good. Was it a hamburger or a cheeseburger??????

    RAVENWOOD ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dont see this game going ravenwood's way.. If indy establises an early lead like we did vs DC, we can call it a game this time. Everyone of those players knows how it feels to have a lead taken from them, so now they will play hardnose every play and never let up. It should be a great game to be apart of and im looking forward to another thriller.

  12. Was Cordell going to shore up the Independence defense that got 34 smacked on them?

Cordell has a bit more maturity and composure throughout the game, Nick Smith played well, skiddish but when a team commits that many penalties..well, you just know things aren't going your way at all! DC is a solid team, but just to say Cordell would've picked apart this teams secondary.. When your forced to roll out because of his size the coverage rolls and it's hard to beat. Your out of your mind to say that Cordell would not of been a factor is this game. idiot.

  13. Well, the 2006 High School Football Regualr Season is half-way through and every team has played atleast 5 games. Are there any surprises out there of how well a team has done or how bad a team has performed. Is there any predictions for the rest of the year, will the the top dogs fall or will the underdogs prevail, we still got 5 more weeks til the playoffs and let's hear every thoughts!!!

Im betting that independence is a surprise to almost everyone ecspecially after beating franklin.

  14. this game is going to be won upfront... indy's o line stops there blitzes and indy will control the game.. the d from franklin beats are o line we should see a dog fight then.. I say with confidence that the indy's D has seen every play they've run and are prepared to stop it. I see them allowing very few points, and this being a great game. Good luck to both teams may they both play to the best of their ability and no one gets hurt. Cabt wait to watch this one!

  15. Fan...Great Info...but I would like to add some info that may open some eyes as well!

You claim that Indy has beat up some poor teams..at least they are poor looking at their overall records anyway....here is what you do not see in those poor records..Why are they so poor??

Indy has beaten and beaten badly: Page, Hillwood and Centennial

Pages defeats have come to Lipscomb and Ravenwood.

Hillwood has been destroyed by Gallatin and Hillsboro.

Centennial..who may be the "weakest" due to teams played.. was beaten by Lavergne and Blackman..which Blackman is a bad team.

So...with that said, Indy has beat the teams just as Gallatin, Lipscomb, Hillsboro and Ravenwood have! Would those teams fall to the Rebels along the same lines as you say that IHS will? (I know Ravenwood lost to FHS already!)

Just something else to think about and consider! :thumb:

haha that was a very good point my friend. Could not of put it better. Indy is thirsty for another win and they are getting tired of beating up on each other and are ready to unleash that on fhs.. My prediction is indy by 10..im not going to put stats in here because everyone has already seen them in previous post. They played a very athletic secondary in CHS but we still ousted them.. Good luck to both teams and this is one you dont want to miss!

  16. Independence has been racking up victories against bad football teams. Page is 1-2, Hillwood is 0-2, and Centennial is 0-2. Let's see what happens when they play a good team before I will buy into the fact that Independence could win a region title.

Out at indy will just face it.. We're never good enough for everyone else and i for one think that is a motivational tool for them to use. This would be a different story if we were barely beating these schools but that is not the case. We've worked hard to earn those and for no one to pay respect..us at indy say THANK YOU and we will shock the world again on the 15th..good day

  17. Indy came out with a chip on their shoulder from last season when they were humilated by CHS this year the tides had turned. First thing, THE indy D played great! Secondary proved that they could take down those giants at wr and the rest of our team stomped the run. In my opinion CHS with the talent they have would stand way better chances in our region if they threw to the talent they had. We finally finished a game with no special team let downs. Good job keep up the work.. Offense was in rhythm from the moment they stepped on the field. The line played great and it lead to a stellar performance from Cordell. The wr's caught everything the got their hands on.. Running the ball worked great to catch them sleeping, when their d was thinking pass. This is by far the biggest victory for IHS! ONe thing i will say is that CHS plays dirty when they get down.. That may cost them a game later on in the season.. Congratulations to indy once again on a well played game.

    Indy - 42

    CHS - 6

  18. Players and coaches need to get into a rythmn and feel comfortable with how each will react to game situations. Given Coach Smith's track record with QB's....this could prove dangerous for the rest of the region if he and Cordell are getting on the same page. Then add solid hard nose running from those stable of RB's (Pettigrew, Consiglio, Sheffield, etc) and the Eagles from Independence could have one of the best offenses around.

My thought is that these first two games were used more for passing because Coach Smith wanted to know what he had in his QB's. Those questions seemed to be answered last week with nearly 300 yds total passing. Concentrate on the pass and see this team run over you. Stop the run and watch these QB's throw it down your throat. Hmmmm.....I like it! Good luck to the Eagles, this HS fan loves exciting football (especially high power offense)...bring it Coach Smith!!

Alright! Could not have put it any better. The offense out of indy is explosive from all positions on the field. We have deep ball threats and possession recievers. We have power running and we have two solid QB's. Cordell being able to control the game at all times. If you choose to focus on the pass, then we can pound with the run. Very high powered offense with a great leader at QB! They can't wait out at indy

  19. Finney is still at chs

im not sure if he's still coaching tho

and i personally doubt independence will score 14 more than centennial

i'll go the other way and say centennial by at least 14 because they were able to hang with #10 ranked La Vergne and nearly defeat them

independece is still unproven and i doubt they will be able to hang with centennial

because even tho ihs has improven, so has centennial, by alot!

    [

I guess we will just see zooie... Indy is going to come ready to play first home game and their ready for a challenge.. And incase you havent heard our fans bring noise!
