  1. I agree this system is so messed up. Why not go back to the old system I for one will not understand. I have looked at some other things that are MESSED up with the 6A bracket. If the T$$AA is going to put schools in districts and then break them out to 6 classes then wins vs. lower classes should not count as much as wins vs. higher or the same class. Just looking at 6A:

Oakland's win vs. Ensworth rates the same as all of these Brighton over MAHS (A school) Dickson County over Creekwood (3A) Franklin over Fairley (4A)

I'm not picking on these teams but All of them could be 9-1 or if Smyrna beats Oakland then they could go to 8-2 and not be seated as high as a team with wins over smaller classes.

The system will make it hard to get a schedule as no one will want to play good competition outside of their district.

I've said before that Brighton and Dickson County could get a #1 seed in the 6A playoffs and have only beaten ONE 6A team.

Once again I'm not picking on those schools, but 7AAA plays good competition outside of their TOUGH district and gets hurt for it. Something is wrong!!!

Wins over 5a and 6a opponents are viewed the same. They are all AAA wins. The TSSAA looks at wins over 1a, 2a, or 3a. Not the sub classes. Those teams can not help they are placed in predominantly 5a districts.

  2. I know who you are - LOL!!! Hope you are doing well! I am at Smyrna this year spending some time with my principal, Mr. Raikes. We are at Riverdale Friday if ya want to come by and say hi!

Back to the topic at hand. Last year I recognized how inherently unfair the 'Z' system was and developed a non-poll, non-biased, non-subjective 'BCS' system to take scheduling and wins and losses into account.

Formula is easy! First, district champion is in and hosts first round.

    After that...

If you win you get (100+opponents wins) + 20 for every higher class or

    -20 for every lower class - i.e. a 6A team beating a 4A (5-5) team would get 100+5-(2*20) or 65

Win or lose you then get 5 times the number of wins of your opponent

and then get 2 times the number of wins of your opponent if they are

    same class or higher.

Last year in 6A I had Smyrna (5-5) and Siegel (5-5) in and Coffee Co (3-7) and

    Franklin Co (4-6) out

I have a question. What if you are the only 6a team in your district, and you can only play all 5a teams? Then what? Is this why Brighton had the lowest score in your formula?

  3. I can clear up this whole thread. Crazy Cowboy or whoever started this did not do his research. I spoke to an assistant principal at Brighton today who helped make the schedules. He said that originally Brighton and Collierville had agreed to play. The contracts were signed and everything was a go. Then the TSSAA realigned the districts, forcing Collierville to play a district game that night. So Brighton only had nine games late in the scheduling period. MAHS called Brighton wanting to play!!! The coach said they were trying to start a new program and they needed the money and the experience, so the teams agreed to play. Brighton was trying to schedule a 6A opponent. As a matter a fact a school quite larger than themselves. So to avoid having nine games, Brighton agreed to play MAHS. SO before everyone on here bashes someone, do your homework first. I have the schools phone number and the name of the administrator if you would like to call verify this story.

Also, the TSSAA put Brighton in an all 5A district. They were 6A by one student. TSSAA should have allowed them to play in 5A or moved them into the district with Millington, Arlington, Cordova, etc. Brighton is the only 6A school west of Jackson not in Shelby County.

  4. Trust me, they've figured it out.

The solution is, your record against same class or higher (or equivalent if playing out of state competition) should count. Or a BCS type format

Brighton is the only 6a team in the district. So how can you punish them for not playing 6a teams? On top of that games are hard to find for them due to location. MAHS happened to be open two years ago so they signed a contract. That is how lots of smaller schools make money. Manassas did it for years. I don't see how its a joke. The starters came out at halftime. Big deal. Playoffs were not in consideration for playing this game, it was just used to have 10 games on the schedule.

  5. When Brighton plays a Shelby County-Memphis opponent, most of the time they get beat. They played a good team last week and got thumped. The Dandy Dozen is still to be proven as who is the best in the West!

I thought I just said that. I think Brighton does ok considering its a rural school, being forced to play in the largest classification in the state. The school doesn't even have 1500 students. 21-6 over the last 3 years isn't bad. Plus in this time period not one player has signed a division one scholarship. hopefully they can draw Millington in the playoffs, I think that would be an interesting matchup.

  6. Well I don't know what the rules are but I will always err on the side of letting a KID play ball we are not the NFL and it sounds like things have gotten out of control at ER. I can say that easily though because we are done playing both of those teams this year.

What is going on at ER? What has gotten out of control? Why are they not winning this year?

  7. I think what you mean is, before, Covington got everyone, regardless of zoning. Or bought houses for players, as documented with the TSSAA. Now players are going to Brighton due to zoning, playing style, or academics. Either way, Brighton is hardly getting anything from Crestview. Maybe COvington should ditch the wing t and get some athletes out to play.

  8. I have Siegel some this preseason and they are dealing with some offensive line injuries but I still think they will be to much for Independance. Siegel has alot of depth and their coaching is some of the best around in my opinion. I think Siegel could win by as much as they want with former qb Steve Matthews as the offensive coordinator calling plays

Matthews is a wonderful hire, Siegel scored twice as many points last night as they usually do. And coach Wyant in all is defensive genius I guess forgot to coach special teams.
