  1. Antioch was a big disappointment after reading all the posts. I was hoping to see a run and gun game last night by both teams and Siegel did not disappoint but Antioch was anemic. After watching both Siegel and Ridgeway I was not impressed with Ridgeway. I think Siegel matches up well and should make it to the finals. Go 7AAA.

  2. Sparta. . . Wow. . . I don't know what to say. Except, I told you so. . . I tried bringing most of you back down to earth when everyone was talking about state. I've seen lots of basketball in my days and from the very beginning I knew White Co. didn't have it. For all those sparta fans who like to talk it up when the going is good, you deserve to lose. Did you guys really think you were that good? You sparta fans love talking behind these boards and but you can't seem to back it up, ever.

Is there really a need to be so negative. Sparta had an excellent team this year and really loaded with talent. They were loaded with shooters but maybe not as athletic as some, but their kids played smart. They had a real chance to make it to state but they evidently did not match up well with RB. It really is about the match ups. Who knows what would have happened if WC had won the region game and Siegel had traveled to RB. It was a crazy year in 7AAA but let's celebrate it instead of putting down the other teams. I can't remember a year when it was this exciting and not a boring and predictable year with one or two teams beating up on everyone else. Cookeville beat Siegel twice but WC beat Siegel 3 times. WC beat Cookeville both times. Blackman split with Cookeville during the regular season but Siegel beat Blackman both times. Blackman split with WC and played them close in the tournament. (Before anyone from Sparta wants to talk about how bad the refs were yes you had 32 fouls at Blackman with probably 7 or 8 being intentional fouls. You had 22 when you played Blackman at Lebanon and did not have to intentionally foul, but yet there was no one on here complaining about the fouls). Who could have predicted how well Oakland was this year. They split with Siegel and WC during the regular season. I think the fact they had several first year starters hurt them during tournament time, but I was really impressed with their year. Lebanon was able to get wins against WC and Oakland but yet Warren County got their only win against Lebanon. And what about Warren County, it was one of the best teams they have had in a while and they scared a lot of teams. So, lets celebrate the players and the plays they made this year and wish them all well. I know I am going to miss Alex at Blackman, the kid gave us a lot of thrills over the years and he will really be missed with his game changing play. I will miss Cutter at Siegel and his passion for the game but not his whinning. Epps at Oakland and his defense, Paul at Blackman for his hustle, and Greene, Delaney and Brown for their excellent shooting. Good luck to Siegel in the state I know there will be a lot of 7AAA fans there pulling for you.

  3. I have to say that if they gave awards for the best student section that White County would win hands down.....Our kids follow these teams anywhere! I haven't seen a better cheering section in 7AAA or our reigon this year! They are like the 6th man out on the floor. They get thier team going and intimidate the opponets! Tonight they will be out in full force! Good Job Maroon Maniacs keep up the good work all the way to State in Murfreesboro!

You might not want to goad the Siegel Nation. When the school opened they came out with a lot of pride and noise and showed the rest of us in 7AAA how it was done. Everyone had large crowds coming out but no one was as organized or vocal as Siegel those first 3 years. They also had a lot to cheer about and everyone in the district has raised their standards. WC has a large cheering section, and your students do a good job. Your parents are the problem. When parents stand up and cheer like they did when Green knocked Alex against the bleachers at Blackman they should all be ashamed. It was a black mark against Sparta and their supporters. Alex could have been injured badly and not one parent, poster, coach or player cared.

  4. well too bad that captain epps couldnt muster up no more than nothing in the most important game of the season..............sad way to end his career...no one wants to end it like that....it would have been different if they won thoughdeandre and tyler played real well in the game.............its sad to see kendal go cold the last couple of games like he did....i kno he hates it

Nice of you to compliment them on their good year. /sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> Epps had a great season and so did Kendal. Both of them were big parts of a team that finished 2nd in the district when everyone thought they would have a down year. I was very impressed with both when they played Blackman and one game does not define a season. I am sure they were both a little frustrated because they are competitors, but they need to look at the whole season. I think Oakland played tired in the tournament and I am sure they probably were because they did not have a lot of depth. Just like Blackman. Their last game was one of their worst but you can't define Alex's season by the last game he played. Shelbyville kept two people on him and were not going to let him have a look at the basket, but had it not been for Alex Blackman would not have finished 4th in the district. I think both teams can be very proud of their accomplishments because they did not have the talent of the other two top teams and some of the teams that finished lower in the district.

Good luck to WC and Siegel tonight and heading into the sub-state. It would be great to see both of you advance to State.

  5. Was Carter not getting any looks at the basket or was he just cold shooting?

Alex didn't get any looks. The Shelbyville coach knows Alex and was also scouting at the WC game at Blackman. He face guarded Alex all night and when Alex did touch the ball he was double teamed. He left Smith and Crutchfield open knowing they are not shooters and they were not able to score. Alex played hard as always and came down with about 6 or 7 rebounds and probably had 4 or 5 assists. Paul was able to score inside for a time until they adjusted. It was basically the same problem they have had all year but a gamble by the Shelbyville coach that worked out for him. Hate to see Alex's season end we really enjoyed watching him play. Good luck to Alex and Paul. Fine young men who represented BHS well.

  6. Congrats to White County! They were the better team last night.

I just have a view observations from last night and the tournament. So let me type before you jump down my throat. First, I saw about 4 different sets of refs and thought they they were all bad. I won't say another thing about that. I got to the ballgame early to watch the Blackman/Oakland game. Thought I would support the BORO. I was more for Blackman because they were the underdogs but I have certain favorite players from both teams. It was a sloppy game. I thought at one point Carter was going to get killed. Seems the game got out of hand a few times. Just like the White County/Siegel game. So the Siegel game starts and there are tons of people from White county. Someone must of rolled up the streets in Sparta last night. I'll make no excuse for Siegel's loss because I won't bash players or refs but I will say something about fans. I was very disappointed last night when I looked up in the stand and nearly the whole Blackman team was sitting with White County's student section cheering against Siegel. I did not see Oakland doing that so I give props to Oakland. If they did they were not as obvious as Blackman was in their blue sweatsuits with the orange stripe. I did take pics to prove their support of White County. I thought I was being a good citizen of the Boro by supporting other teams from the Boro. Am I the only one that feels like it is a compliment to our great city to want any of the teams to be successful and represent us? I didn't want the district crown to go to White County. I wanted it to go back to the Boro. Good luck to all the Boro teams left in the region. I have seen some wonderful basketball this year and I hate to see it end.

It was a rough game. Both teams believe in defense and it always shows in the score. The game was just not going well for either team but I thought both teams worked hard. Sometimes you just don't get the breaks. It was a struggle but in the end Oakland pulled it out. In all my years of watching basketball I don't think I have seen another kid take as many charges as Alex. He is fearless. You would think for someone his size he would be stepping out of the way.

  7. My thoughts exactly. I think Blackman takes the consolation game and Siegel takes the championship. Siegel is loaded with talent and I have a feeling they can make a long run if they play like they did against Oakland.

As much as it pains me, I can't go with my heart. I will have to pick Oakland over the Blaze. Hopefully, the Blaze will prove me wrong. I will take Siegel over WC in the championship.

  8. The last few times White County has played Blackman Turnham won't speak to our players or coach. I wonder why?

Can't speak for the coach. At least he walks through the line and shakes hands. I'm just guessing, but I would say it is probably the way WC players and fans acted at Blackman. I don't think he was to happy with how rough the players were when fouling Alex and your coach did not put a stop to it. Personally, I think the classless fans were the worst.

  9. Very good post........the kid never gives up. That was what I saw in him in the beginning.....that fighting spirit . He wants to win and he will go down swinging. He is lucky to have been coached by a guy who has brought along his fundamentals and discipline so much.

It is good to see someone besides a Blackman poster give props to Alex. Great kid and really deserves some praise. I hope he gets praise from his coach in the locker room because he doesn't get any during the game. I would think as hard as the team has played Turnham would be trying to praise them and lift them up during the game, instead all I have seen is him constantly berating them. Give them some props coach. They are already over achievers and they played White County a heck of a game Saturday night.

  10. FC had three starters out sick or injured.

We could tell they weren't the same team we played earlier in the year. I thought it was very classy of Turnham to set Alex and Paul in the 4th. Hope your players are better by tournament time.

  11. I'm sorry but out playing a team IS how you win the ballgame. Big No. 52 didn't hardly play the 3 quarter. As for Cutter running in out of the ballgame, it may be to keep Blackman for hitting those famous 3's. That can get you back in the ballgame real fast. And for all the excuses mentioned above and in the last three posts, when Siegel's posters get on here with excuses everyone says to quit your crying. So quit your crying! It's over and done with.

I didn't see any crying in the post just some facts and some compliments to Siegel from a Blackman poster. Opinions about how their team played is why this board is here for comments and interaction. Not for a classless and immature response like yours.

  12. Does anybody know how the Blackman-LaVergne scrimmage turned out from earlier tonight?

They played 5 quarters and wiped the score off at the beginning of each quarter. I think Blackman won about 3 of them. Neither team looked very good. Out of sync with sloppy passes. Neither Blackman or LaVergne seem to have an inside game. Turnham runs his players in and out so much you can't tell what they have. But, that is why you scrimmage. Let's just hope there is a lot of improvement before next week.

  13. Here is the question I have about Alex. For a few years, he has been able to thrive as the third option behind barnes and bragg, so while teams have tried to key in on those 2, Alex has been able to reap the awards. The question that needs to be answered is can he create his own shots and step into that role of a go to guy game in and game out, just not when they face teams that play lax on defense. I think as long as Turnham is there, Blackman will always be very solid and this year should be no different, I expect them to finish in the top half of the district, but if Carter can bring it to another level maybe 2nd in the district isnt a stretch, should be very interesting to see how it unfolds.

I think DeAndre Maupins is prime for a breakout, he has waited his turn to be in the spotlight and he will get alot of looks on the offensive side of the floor, so I look for him to flourish as he pretty much has to if Oakland is going to keep up at the pace they have been at the last few seasons.

Turnham has a system and for the most part has been successful. Alex's role has been to stand outside and wait for the play to develop and if the other shots are not open they go to Alex. You can't argue with success but it stops a player from showing what he can do. It takes a disciplined individual and a team player. Alex has always done more than shoot the 3 but has received very little credit from the posters. He has great court vision, plays good defense and gives it everything he has. Anyone who watches Alex every game knows what he can do and hopefully Turnham will turn him loose. Last year he drew a lot of double teams and face guarding and I expect this year he will see even more.

  14. Great game Warriors!!! What a win and this really sets us up for the Region. Couldn't have worked out better with Oakland and Blackman on the other side of the bracket. I thought Kevin was fantastic. He really wanted the win and big props to Trey Smith for getting everything started. Oakland was in control the first half but just couldn't get it going the second. I think Riverdale came out after half time with more energy and when the ball started dropping they took advantage. Can't wait to see how the Region match ups develop.

Icecold you are right about Blackman needing a ball handler . They need a point guard who can distribute the ball. I think Coach Turnham has to take this loss on his shoulders. With the game on the line why do you let #15 drive in the lane. He made too many turnovers in the 3rd quarter which let WC get the momentum. At the end of the game he is driving the lane and throwing the ball up. He should have been dishing the ball off to Barnes or Carter. Blackman needed 3's at the end. Both Carter and Barnes were open and instead there were turnovers. When the game is on the line you put the ball in the hands of your better players. Why didn't Turnham do that. If he wanted someone to drive the lane give the ball to Bragg. There were no screens to get anyone open. Same thing happened against Riverdale on Saturday. When the game is tied shouldn't the coach call time out and say let's hold for one shot and we will take our chances on overtime if we miss. Instead they come down the court and take a terrible shot with 15 seconds left. To much time for the other team to shoot and Riverdale took advantage of that.

  15. JJ didn't learn how to create for himself until really last season. If Alex could learn to create for himself and get a quicker release on his shot, he could be very dangerous. The thing about JJ that made him such a great shooter was his quick release. Everyone knew he could shoot so they had to respect his shot, and then it was just a simple pump fake and drive and he would either finish or get fouled. Great scorers find a way to score, even if it is from the free throw line.

Good post. This was the point I was trying to make yesterday but evidently was not coming through. Alex drove to the basket two or three times, was fouled and made his shots. But I don't think that was what Turnham wants him to do because he was yelling at him on the foul line when he was getting ready to shoot his fouls. Alex was 6 for 6 at the foul line. I didn't see him drive again. My point yesterday was to let the kids play.

  16. Sure he could if he played like half of the players you are probably talking about. Everyone can create a shot but how many of them actually make the shot. How many ill advised shots do you see in a game where a guy goes in makes a 360 turn and shoots the ball. They throw up lame duck shots but everyone admires how fast they made that turn. I don't know why you think Alex is slow. He is smoother than a lot of players and while he may not be the fastest player on the court he is not slow.

I really don't know what Alex can do. I see a well rounded and consistent player and I think given the opportunity he could make things happen.

I don't think icecold likes Alex. What in the world does middle school have to do with it and who has not improved since they were in middle school. You can say what you want but part of Alex's problem is the other coaches in the league knows what he can do. Their goal is to shut him down and make sure someone else for Blackman steps up. Alex will learn to adjust if given the chance. That is what I would like to see.

  17. I don't agree. Alex can create if Turnham lets him. He took it inside two or three times last night and drew fouls and hit the shots. Evidently, that is not what Turnham wants because I seen him yelling at Alex once while he was standing at the line. If you watch their games everyone is standing around waiting for the play to develop. They are terrible at screening but Alex appears to be the last option. If I was Turnham I would make him my first option.

Exactly what I have been saying. I would love to see Turnham turn him loose. Barnes, Bragg and Carter all are very capable but I think Turnham, like most coaches, has his system and if you play for them you play within the system. Can't argue with his success so what do we know. But, although I have only watched a few of Blackman's games I love to watch Alex. He is a very unselfish player and he doesn't get the credit he deserves.

  18. enjoyed both games tonight our boys did a nice job of contorling the game almost the enitre game i think balckman tok a point or 2 lead once or twice but for the most part we kept we stayed in the lead with a few points we did a good job of executing and getting a basket when we needed to and did a good job of shooting our free throws torwards the end of the game we also did a good job of keep away until blackman had to foul us to get us on the line during the keep away they guys did a nice job of being patient for the easy bucket and didnt try and focre one i have already talked to E J but we need him to shoot with CONFIDENCE when you shoot it kid no your are gonna make it instead of worrying about missing it if you miss it micheal will ge the rebound so just shoot kid be cocky on the court Kevin did a good job demanding the ball and scott had a good game it was nice to see him rebound from the last time we played blackman

TDTN my twins are CRAZY arent they

    GO WARRIORS

I thought it was a good game by both teams. They are my two favorite teams. Pace seemed really slow, maybe that was caused by the defense. Refs were the worse I have seen all year. As a group they shouldn't be allowed to ref a game together again. No bias towards any team they were just bad !!! I thought Riverdale really capitalized on Blackman's mistakes. That is what has to happen when teams are so evenly matched. I think Michael's scoring inside and Scott's outside shooting were big. Don't know why Blackman decided to go zone but they left Thomas open to shoot the 3 and he made them pay. I think the big difference in the game was Blackman made more mistakes than Riverdale. They really need to work on getting the ball in. Really weak in that area. Why does Turnham let the point guard drive into the middle? The kid can't be over 5'4" and he is driving into the lane and producing way to many turnovers. He may be a freshman but he has played most of the season and should not be making those type of mistakes. What happened to Bragg last night? Was he sick. He was a non factor, but I though Wallace came in and gave some good minutes last night. I thought Carter and Barnes played well but when you are in a big game like this you have to have more players step up.

  19. I'm talking 3rd quarter

    Blackman-82

    White County-62

David Barnes had 37 points, 27 in the first half

Worst officiating my eyes have ever seen, period.

Great game David Barnes!! That was an awesome game. Give Alex Carter the Dane Bradshaw award. That kid makes things happen. Must have had 15 assists. Great game Blackman. Student section you should be ashamed of yourself. You ranked right up there with Siegel tonight. Really bad taste.

  20. Congratulations to Oakland. It was a good game and Oakland's student section is probably the best in the Boro. Really loved the sound track and the enthusiasm. Hated to see the Blaze loose. It was a tough loss. The game was really even. I was amazed that Blackman out rebounded Oakland. I wouldn't have thought that would be possible with Oakland's big guys. All stats were pretty close except for the free throws. Blackman has lost a couple of games because of free throws. Blake Bragg really stepped up tonight. I thought he had a really good game. Wish we could count on him to do that every game but I think Chaisson brings the best out in him. Paul Stephens has really improved his game. Love to see him contributing. Carter should have gotten a foul called when he was mugged by Chaisson in the corner. Noticed he had a big red mark under his eye after that so I am sure he will have a black eye today. I have to give it to the kid he is tough. He will stand in and let them knock him down and is not afraid to take a charge. I just wish he had a little more padding to cushion some of the falls.

Blackman needs a point guard. The Smith kid will be good in a year or two but they need someone with better court vision. Really hurt us tonight. Loved David's long three tonight. I thought he played really well. Turnham needs to turn Carter loose. He has him standing in the corner waiting for someone to throw him the ball and that's not happening. Let him play. We were winning earlier when he was more active in the offense. Teams are keying on him now. Don't help them out coach.

Overall Blackman just couldn't seem to get it going. Give Oakland credit for taking them out of their game.

I thought it was a good game. I really like seeing the Stephens kid getting more playing time. Hope he continues to improve. Bragg had one of his better games last night. He actually passed the ball. I agree about Carter. I listened to the Lebanon game and I could tell by listening to the announcers that they couldn't understand why he had Alex standing around. Those plays they run every time they come down the court take to long to develop. I agree he subs to much and he jerks them out after a mistake. Kids can't play if they know they are coming out if they miss a shot. I think Turnham is a good coach but I think he was out coached last night by one of the best.

  21. this kevin argument, i dont even know why i tried, to much ignorance from most 7AAA posters and to much hate for riverdales bball program. i think college scouts/coaches see where im coming from, i expect kevin to sign with an even better school than chaisson allen, since chaisson settled with one to quick in my opinion. in cutters case...jimmy part II is probable

but of course, none of yall will agree with those statements either, i wont waste anymore time right now though

While I agree Chaisson is a good player I think Kevin is a better athlete. Anyone who thinks all he can do is dunk evidently doesn't watch Riverdale. He has improved his outside shooting but I think most of all he has improved his passing.

  22. because she received a scholarship to play volleyball. oh yeah..i have the biggest crush on her...mmm...we were practically raised with each other. nice try tho.

I have read this thread many times and refused to comment because nothing good comes from threads like this. The Siegel supporters will be biased and so will the Blackman supporters. Then there are those like Warrior123 that are just sour grapes. Anyone who has watched Alex and Tyler play probably enjoy watching both of them. I know I really enjoy watching Alex. I have been going to mostly Riverdale games but I enjoy the opportunity to watch Blackman when I can. Alex is a well rounded ball player. Most of the time those players go unnoticed because they are not flashy. Alex sees the court well and is a very unselfish player. He plays good defense and usually comes away with 5 or 6 rebounds a game. Everyone knows about his outiside shot but he also has an inside game. I think Alex would be a better player if Turnham would turn him loose. You can tell Turnham has a system and that is for Alex to shoot outside. I have seen Tyler play twice this year and I have to say I enjoyed his play last year better. He plays as though he has decided no one else can score so has to do it all. Maybe that comes from his coach but no one else is going to score and contribute if they don't get the ball. His drives inside may get him a foul early but teams will do what Blackman did and adjust. That is probably why they don't score much in the later quarters. I will say he has a nice outside shot, really quick release. I just didn't enjoy his constant complaining.

Warrior123 you either don't know Alex Carter or you are jealous. I don't know him personally but I can tell you he has a great work ethic. During the off season I have seen Alex at the YMCA almost every day either playing basketball, running or lifting weights. Kid can't help it if he has the metabolism most of us old folks wish we had.

His sisters name is Megan. She plays volleyball at MTSU and is a very good athlete. I don't know if Megan received any offers for basketball but she was a very good basketball player. I would guess she preferred volleyball but I don't know. Her picture is on the wall at Blackman as you go in the gym. She holds a record or something like that for volleyball at Blackman. I know she was the main reason Blackman put Riverdale out of the district tournament her senior year. She could also pop those 3's.

  23. I don't bring up Alex because as soon as I say something about him people always have to bring up Cutter? and I've realized that all though he still has slow feet he has played some amazing, simply great, defense this year. I think he's a better shooter than Cutter. However, every time i say that I get bombed. Alex will be something to look forward to next year. As far as Paul goes..kid has great potential. But how much he fouls..wow

Sorry, didn't mean you never mention him. Blackman doesn't have the posters other schools do and he just doesn't seem to get the recognition he deserves. I know you try to keep Blackman in the news. Just keep hanging in there.

I will agree Alex is not the fastest one on the court but I don't think he is slow. He certainly has a good eye for the court and gives 110%. I have only seen about 3 games this year but I haven't seen him slack off. One thing I did notice at the Riverdale game. Coach doesn't seem to be trying to get him open as much as he did earlier, or is the team not screening like they should? If I had outside shooters like Barnes and Carter I would be screening and kicking the ball out to get them shots. I will have to say that is one thing Blackman does not do. When they start inside they don't look to pass they take it to the hoop regardless. They make a lot of mistakes inside. Especially, the point guard. He is to short to take it in and turns the ball over. If he would ever learn to kick it out Blackman would be even more dangerous.

I think Paul is still playing football. He has improved from the first game I saw this season but he just can't seem to stop and start on demand like the little guys. Hopefully, he will continue to work on that because with his size he could dominate.
