  1. I'm going with the concensus that this will be a lop-sided win for WB. For the Bradley players, I hope that you come up to WB, try your hardest, and some of you have personal best games. You've had a string of bad years ... hang in there ... high school football has a way of evening out over time. WB players (and I personally know several of you who read this board) ... do not get over confident in the game. Work on the basics in this game (false starts have been killing us lately; so have holds). Even if it gets lop-sided, try your best no matter the score. My prediction ... the starters get to rest after the first half. Also, I kind of hope that TJ sits out most if not all of it and gets his ankle 100% for the playoffs. We don't need any injuries when we go on our run to Murfreesboro.
  2. I bet this will be a great game. Is it down at Ooltewah?
  3. I'm not sure about this one ... being charged for a crime does not mean they are guilty of the crime. Look at all the stuff that happened with the Duke lacrosse players. Seems like a similar situation to me.
  4. I have lost a lot of respect for Coach Monroe for this quote, if it is real. It smacks of "blame the victim" mentality. I mean where does he get off saying that this was done so they could "show they did something with these kids that came down there"? Like the Sheriff just filed the charges just to tidy up some loose ends. "Wrong place at the wrong time," puh-lease. They go to another campus, start mouthing off and (assuming reports are true) go out onto the field to cause trouble. Yep, they just stumbled in there, accidentally starting trouble. Wrong place, wrong time. Kids will be kids, but coaches should be coaches. Pitiful.
  5. Is Cy the kid that went out on the stretcher? The WB fans were glad that he was moving his legs and they didn't get the back-board. At first, I think we all thought the worst, but when they got him up, we realized he was holding his arm/shoulder. I had a good view of the #63 incident. He pushed our player (can't remember who it was) after a play. It was no question an unsportsmanlike play. I'm sure it was tempers, frustrations, etc., but it was blatant. Then he started mouthing off to the ref that threw the flag. I can only speculate that he said something bad, because he was quickly flagged again. The first call was 100% correct; the second one we can only speculate about. What impressed me about McMinn was even though they seemed smaller, they were very good at tackling, especially up the middle. WB's Garner had a rougher time up the middle than in other region games (even amongst the higher ranked teams). It seemed like the Cherokees were very good tacklers. Several people on the WB side in my immediate circle of friends commented about how surprised we were that McMinn was wrapping up on tackles. Only when we got around the outside (Garner's specialty) that we started amassing yards. And late in the game, it seemed that our run game got going good, but that is probably due to tiredness on McMinn's defense. I thought the pass coverage was good for McMinn; with a few exceptions/blown coverages, most of the time we didn't advance the ball after the completion, as McMinn defended well. You guys have a good punter too. I'm partial to our Kase Whitehead, especially after some of the stellar punts he made tonight, but your guy looked good too. I loved the turf. That has to be the best turf anywhere that I have ever seen. Your groundskeeping crew must really work to get it looking so good. On the WB side, I think our team played very well. Defense was great, as usual. Offense didn't fumble the ball once, I don't believe. Our #23, Don Cope, came away with some good interceptions. I really wish he could have made that extra yard or two at the end. I don't know if we've ever ran an interception back for 100 yards. What's bad about this region is that there are 5 teams that ought to be in the playoffs, but only 4 can go. I think 90% of the time, Region 2 #5 could beat Region 1's playoff teams. (We seem to dominate the 1st round). I feel for your guys, because they showed a lot of heart out there tonight, and unless a miraculous turn of events happened (Soddy beating some teams, plus a little more help), it doesn't look very likely that you can eek into the playoffs. Good luck on the remainder of the season. Hope you can use it to get ready for next year and beat Ooltewah, Farragut, and OR. Just not us! /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Jethro
  6. Well TPoole, I did it. Was tservies, now officially "Jethro" /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
  7. Some of the Hamilton Co. refs get flag happy. They called about 14 penalties in the first half. I think near the last drive of the first half they called about 6 (on both teams), including a holding call from the down-field judge who was at least 30-40 yards away. How the refs closer to the play missed one but the ref down the field called it was amazing. Seemed like the refs couldn't figure out if they were going to call every play tight or loose. After half-time, it seemed as though the refs changed positions (literally) and there were only 2. It was crazy. It is all 4-lane now. It is not too bad of a drive, actually. Just long.If you think you've gone too far ... you're about half-way there.
  8. Jethro says, "Go Owls!" (Granny is spinning in her grave right now.) Wave to us Athens-bound fans as you head up to Farragut!
  9. Good gosh, Tribefan. I think I mentioned that I appreciated your data, and that you were a treasure-trove of information. I was only posting my reply to your analysis of the numbers. Sorry if I touched a nerve.
  10. Are you serious? I've been there twice (2 years apart) and they had concessions both times. It was one of those portable metal concession stands the first time. This year it seamed like a better building, but still temporary. I figured that was a fixture.
  11. I agree that we should be the ones to keep their heads up in the air. These are kids for goodness' sake. But, if you will re-read my earlier post, I was pointing out that the original poster did say it would be 42-35 and should be a very good game. Yeah, he was negative about some players (one of which I'm not so sure isn't deserved, but that is just based on 1 game observation and notice I didn't name him), but the poster was giving Ooltewah credit for keeping it close.
  12. Which is why Notre Dame is having a stellar year this year, right? All those decades of dominating? What about UCLA in basketball .... certainly Wooden's 10+ years of championships means that we never have to play another NCAA tournament? Smoking crack or not smoking crack, I stand by my premise that past team records mean very little (especially in high school). Besides, you were quoting aggregate team records, not head-to-head records which does tend to indicate one team getting inside the head of the other. The coaching is the only year-after-year stability for a high school team, not the players themselves. Yes, there are "head" games, but what about all the other factors ... poor development, inferior vs. superior coaching. But that has nothing to do with past two years of the home wins vs. road wins of two teams, which is what I think you were meaniing. Besides, didn't Cleveland have great teams 10+ years ago, and wasn't Monroe coaching them?
  13. I agree with the low bleachers too far away, but you are incorrect on the concessions. The last two times I've been there (2 years apart) they had a concession stand on the visitor side. Even had a guy cooking burgers and dogs and selling snow-cones.
  14. TribeFan, thanks for your info. As usual you are a treasure-trove of data. You've posted numbers for public consumption, so I'm going to take an opportunity to respond. Past year's records mean absolutely nothing to this game. Different teams for the most part. Won-loss records for home fields vs. opponents road games means nothing as a meaningful statistic, unless you play the same teams that year. In fact, of your home games, WB only played Soddy on the road. So that is the only comparison that could be made for a home field advantage. And McMinn won by a 22 at home; we beat 'em by 25 on their turf. In fact, in the last two years, the home team has lost this game. I do agree that this has all the makings of being a good game. tservies a.k.a. Jethro
  15. Owlbino probably has a history of nay-saying, but in re-reading his post, he did say it would be a 42-35 shootout.Based on this one comment (and I haven't seen his others and frankly could care less to) there is nothing in it to say that he isn't a true fan. A true fan sometimes points out the negatives, even if it hurts. He did say it would be a seven point game and a shootout to boot. That is positive. The one game I saw (WB) there was enough fingers to be pointed that even true fans were shocked. Also, I do hope that Ooltewah wins, for entirely and obviously selfish reasons, but that doesn't mean a true fan can't knock their team if it is deserved. Agreed. Hayseed,You on this thread too? Get back to yer plowing.Jethro.(getting back to his cipherin')
  16. The latter..... I'm gonna give Dash RipRock a run for his money. Now where are those fancy pot-passers when you need them?Jethro You got me pegged, city slicker!
  17. Absolutely! 2-5A may not go all the way, but they bash each other's heads in week after week. Much like the SEC. Earlier this year we had 4 teams in the top 5. (Farragut, WB, Oak Ridge, Ooltewah). Each of those teams have 1 region loss ... we just bang each other up.
  18. Nasty. Just plain nasty. ETCoach, don't give 'em anything to get fired up about next year! (Ooltewah, I'm talking about). They're mad enough already.
  19. Repeat after me .... "Jethro's got my back. Jethro's got my back." For my next trick, I'll do my ciphering and "goesinto's" for any who wanna listen and learn. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Let's just hope we can come out of the beautiful McMinn Stadium in such a good mood!
  20. I'd say Farragut's O-line is above average, but not stellar. It is mainly Sterling. Without him, your offense would suffer greatly. Hey, what about the quarterbacks for Farragut? #10 went out at WB and #15 came in. Is there an injury, controversy, or what?
  21. Talk about making a illogical leap! Since you've taken a few verbal shots at TPoole, does it follow that you punched him? That's exactly how you are equating it.
  22. Ooltewah ain't Bradley. Not even in the same league. Even this ol' WB boy knows that Ooltewah is capable of hurting you. Don't think they will win, but if you think Ooltewah is gonna play like Bradley, you're smokin' crack.
  23. I think the stink of losing will hurt OR for a quarter or so, then they get their land-legs again and start clicking. I wouldn't be surprised if Soddy goes up by 7 or so early, then it's lights out for SD. It'll probably be very lopsided in the end. I hate it for Soddy. They seem to be wallowing in the bottom for years now. I understand SD had a very storied tradition of football. Is that true? They have some of the best fans down there. In fact, the folks on the visitor's side and in the concession stand were some of the friendliest people we've ever visited. Even the PA announcer ribbed a handful of students about watching the game from the parking lot and not buying a ticket. He was good natured about it and everybody laughed. I wish every team we visited took us for what we were .... just fans of 16-18 year olds who want to watch a ballgame, eat a few dogs, cheer on our boys, and yell at referees! Good luck to both SD and OR in this one.
  24. My question is this. It seemed like the OR coach just gave up late in the game. 11 points is a lot to be behind, but I've seen some quick turn-arounds. In fact, WB scored late several times last year to beat OR in a stunner. I think there was 1.5 minutes left on the clock when OR got the ball ... why not roll the dice and try for the 8 points and hope to get lucky on an on-side kick and go for 3?
  25. I believe I'm right, but the visiting team has won the last two meetings. Not sure before that.
