  1. I have the final score,,,, 39-24 Baylor.

I have traveled far in search of Knowledge,,, and it has brought me to the main Shrine at Olumo Rock,,,,I visited with the local witch-doctor (I don??™t think voodoo doctor is politically correct anymore?),,,and he agrees that Baylor will win. I was able to gain some valuable insight during my visit,,,and will share what I have learned. I believe that McCallie has a solid line up this year; however, the doctor thinks otherwise

He was troubled that W-90??™s ??

  2. This is getting good. The new guy (TA60) came out throwing daggers. The McCallie guy caught them and threw them right back.....only harder.

come on new guy,,,,,,what cha got?

  3. Patrick attended the Father Ryan / MBA match last night, and there was a touching prayer noting his deployment. He was then introduced and received a standing ovation. Please keep Patrick and all the other young men and women in our armed forces in your prayers.

Patrick , you may already know this but Nate Rawlings former Baylor and Princeton heavyweight will be going back to Iraq for a second tour (currently Ft. Hood leaving I think Feb.) -I do know last go around he was stationed @ the Bagdad airport - Thank You and good luck!-- JIm T.

  4. In the Soph. you can all Mang for 3rd at 119 and Herrmann for 7th at 189.

All the Soph. and Jr. wrestlers are making a very very respectful showing for TN

thanks for the additions, with as many kids as we have this year up in pittsburg - hard to keep up with all, and that's a good problem - JT

  5. this has to be the best showing ever for tenn boys at a national level event of this caliber - i will probably miss someone but the ones i am aware of who will still be wrestling when wrestling resumes friday are -- randolph 103 wrestling for 7th , johnson 125 wrestling for 3rd , 145 toney wrestling for 7th -doster wrestling for 5th and felix wrestling in the championship for 1st (three all-americans in 145 for TN. WOW) 152 waddell wrestling for 3rd and 160 creagan wrestling for 7th

in the sophmore nats119 mang wrestling for 3rd , 135 konz wrestling for 3rd cuthbertson although not a Tn. boy but close by -wrestling in the championship and Tolbert @160 wrestling in the championship for 1st. , @ 189 herrmann for 7th - what a great showing congrats to all place winners and all that chose to go up to pittsburg - great work! - JT

  6. junior nationals starts tomorrow and senior nats friday - what is the web site to follow these tourneys and who all is going from across the state. I have heard there are quite a few going this year. Good Luck to All !! - JT

  7. If I had a dog in the fight going forward I would not have said it but the young kids really look good. It will be fun to watch.

AMEN - a pretty good decade to be a baylor wrestling groupie-

but hey, with the Young twins , Goss, Perrin etc. - the nashville red on the rebound- a young father ryan group anything is possible - long way til november- can't wait -JT

  8. Walker beat Morgan 5-3 on 12/2/05

Minwell beat Walker 4-2 on 12/16/05

Morgan beat Minwell at the state tournament 4-3

Walker beat Marcum ( FRA) 11-7 on 1/14/06

Morgan beat Marcum at state tournament 5-2

Morgan beat Romano ( SD) at state tournament 9-2

Walker beat Romano 24-7 on 12/1/05

Walker beat Reviez 6-4 on 1/21/06

Morgan lost to Reviez in close matches ( couldn't find actual results so this is based on comments in prior posts)

So, Walker beat Morgan in close match early in the season. Morgan beat Minwell ( who beat Walker) in close match at state tournament at end of season but Walker beat Reviez ( who beat Morgan twice) in close match late in the season. Both of them beat Marcum and Romano.

All I know is it has all the makings of a darn good match. This is why we all hate the D-I/D-II split in the Traditional State Tournament. It robs us of a potential match with a state championship on the line between these two outstanding wrestlers.

no disrespect to any wrestlers in matches that are not going to happen , but i will say derek walker learned a valuable lesson last year and was not to be denied this year- he came out focused and wrestled as good as I have seen him wrestle in three years - whomever he would have wrestled in these hypothetical match-ups would have had there hands full- congrats to morgan , walker and all the other 89's and Buck your right same age , same weight, one division = wrestling at it's best - JT

  9. It was only a matter of time, I guess, for this old topic to be rehashed again with this year’s winners. I suppose the original poster’s intent was well intentioned; however, the thread inevitably has degenerated into discussing pointless hypothetical matches between opponents who will never actually see each other. Normally, I would refrain from posting, but since a large portion of this thread involves my brother Dean and accusations that a “Mr. Smith” is a poster, I felt obligated to at least save some face.

A match between Dean and Creagan (or any other of the fantasy match ups) would have been nice; however, now that the season is over, such a discussion really does nothing more than undermine both their championships. Even trying to analyze common opponents or tournament credentials does nothing more than insult other wrestlers who aren’t even involved in the original fiction.

Creagen is a very impressive wrestler and undefeated. Tolbert clearly came into his own at the state. Joslin would have had a great chance at being in the finals had he not been injured all season. Dean is undefeated and one of four Tennessee wrestlers to win McCaulie, where he beat both the Ga. 5A 1st and 4th placers. As a result threads like these only undermine each of their achievements.

Lastly, to prophesize the result of hypothetical matches really doesn’t benefit anyone. And I say prophesize because that’s what posts like this are:

    “D-1 wins 32-9, with D-2 only winning at 125, 135, 171.”

Message boards are great at making it real easy to make bold statements with absolutely no factual support.

    Daniel Smith

good reply - you Smith boys have proven to be good competition over the past 7/8 years and obviously have a good perspective on things - good luck to you and congrats to your brother-JT

  10. Below is an updated version of my response from two years ago when similar questions came up. Hopefully this helps.

At the end of the 1991 wrestling season, several coaches were discussing ideas to promote wrestling in Tennessee. One of the ideas was to creating a state wide wrestling poll determined by coaches. The purpose was to promote high school wrestling in our state and recognize those teams that have performed at an outstanding level of achievement. We consider all Tennessee teams in one poll.

You bet I would love to post the names of the pollsters to publicly thank them for their dedication in promoting wrestling. Each is perfectly willing to volunteer that information and can tell you how they voted if they prefer, but I do not have their permission to state names or votes. For the record, I am one of the pollsters.

FYI: The eleven pollsters are picked based on their coaching experience, objectivity, geographic distribution, division distribution, enthusiasm for the task, willingness to share their time and energy, recommendation by a retiring voter. For demographics: Division II (4), Division I (7); northeast (2), southeast (3), middle (3), west (2), at-large (1). My estimation for their years in coaching: less than 10 (1), between 10 and 20 (2), more than 20 (8). Most have been voting since the beginning. They are fantastic and, like so many other people involved in wrestling, they do this voluntarily to help the sport.

Certainly there are many other coaches that could also do a great job and who would be willing to help when a current pollster retires.

Despite power outages, technical difficulties, inclement weather conditions, ringworm epidemics, and other complications, we have tabulated the votes as entered by the panel every week of wrestling season since 1992. For several years, the Associated Press distributed the results but in recent years it is sent out weekly to over 200 media outlets across the state.

We have made some changes over the years and are always interested in suggestions to improve.

    Thanks for the interest.

    Luther

thank you for your tireless support of wrestling and your efforts to promote tennessee wrestling - your still my favorite ---allie man , but i liked you better in red - JT

  11. Bear Cat, you and Harry have made Coach T worth visiting all season. Thanks...

i'd have to agree with you on that, but more important than their rantings is the support group for ND wrestling( where they have brought many out of the closet). This will help their school's wrestling numbers and hey if you are gonna follow this great sport from nov. - feb. you might as well have fun - Congrats to N.D. and CLAN for a good year - JT

  12. so who is the best wrestler?

change that to who are the best wrestlers in TN. - you have to be impressed with Manson"s national accomplishments and the others mentioned here , don't forget Waddell - and yes Jake Young very impressive for a 9th grader @160 - Look forward to watching some of the others mentioned (especially those from other parts of the state) @ the round house this week - JT

  13. I'm just hoping the little turkeys remember me and their momma when their out making the big bucks with their best friend's daddies company. They should be able to recognize us, we will be the ones working until our hearts stop beating pumping gas and bagging groceries for the public school parents on their way to their retirement home in Florida. Its still worth it (besides, the kids will inherit all my debt anyway)!

you could have run for office til you said that, now you just lost all your new found friends - JT

  14. We (Georgia) ran on 12 mats until the semi-finals. Then went down to 10 and then to 5 for the finals.

For the finals they rotated the divisions on the "TV" mat so you could see the best matches of the 5. You'll get to see some kids you other wise wouldn't see: Nate Carr Jr. and Arturo Holmes Jr.

Wait until you guys see the Goins - Yates match! It was awsome!

How did Jed Hussein's twin brother (darlington ) finish.

  15. IF,and I say IF, Bradley wins the Indiviual Team Title and IF Baylor wins the D2 Individual, it will be intereting to see what the vote will be then. Would seem obvious at that point. May not turn out that way but if it does the vote will be interesting to watch.

    Baylor beat McCallie

    McCallie beat Baylor

    Baylor beat Soddy

    Soddy beat McCallie

    Soddy beat Bradley

    Bradley beat Soddy

Bradley refuses to wrestle Baylor or McCallie

If teams aren't allowed to compete ????????? - JT

  16. stove - your swimming against the current mocking the A/AA duals division. Having been in Clarksville the last 2 years to witness first hand the added excitement that the A/AA created, its hard to understand the logic to your opposition. I wish they would try adding an additional division myself.

Anyone , who tries to taint the accomplishments of any of the teams that broght home the hardware , and then hide behind some screen name doesn't deserve a response. Again , congrats to all the teams that made it to Clarksville ! - JT

  17. I'll second the kudos on everything except the facilities. The folks in charge do a fantastic job, but surely there is a larger venue with seating on both sides of the mats so that the fans can literally "get behind" their team - maybe APU or the Clarksville convention center?

The people that have been involved with running the duals have been nothing but hospitable - my pet peeve - the D2 which sometimes can have some pretty exciting matches, even in the semi-finals, has always been on the far side(no seating) of the gym. If they must have certain matches in a harder to view area , why not rotate

    that situation. - JT

  18. Which team is considered the benchmark for comparision?

they had great teams w/ mo trail , charlie moore(LSU)Chip Healy exact years i am not that clear -

early to mid 60's --in 68 they had Alec Roberts arguably the best or one of the best to ever wrestle for Baylor , he wrestled varsity as a 7th grader and while at Ga. TEch -put Wayne Wells olympic gold medalist on his back twice only to later lose that match -69 rob healy two time national champion - in 70 they won the national preps up in Lehigh,Pa. vs. the likes of Blair Acadamy , Hershey , Lawrenceville , and many others - several other Baylor and McCallie teams brought back 2nd place trophies but 70 was the only year to bring back the team trophy- you have to mention 78 with the likes of Mark Lyle , Scott Kelly ,Bob bullard , Doug Dyer and others -you have to mention the late 90's early 2000's with the solid teams they had geismars , thompsons , dosters, wheland, matthews ( he really rose to occasion @ state duals vs. that purple team)oh yea there was Jordan Leen , a red headed wonder who put in 5 years of varsity time toward the end of that era -nate rawlings and james scott who are both recently deplored to Iraq-then the manson boys starting in - guess we could go on for a while - these are fun arguments we can have around the watering hole, the good thing about getting older is you get better each year you are removed from comp.- later JT
