  1. You miss the point sports guy. The players for these schools don't come from one area (town, county, community, or even one state). It is unfair to public single A schools restricted to a school zone to compete against schools pulling players from all over the place. Maybe Sale Creek and Whitwell were bad examples. What about Lookout Valley? They've won plenty over the years in baseball. They haven't fared as well over the last few years against Boyd and Christian. Not knocking Boyd and Christian, both are fine schools that win alot ... they should be in a league with other schools that don't have school zones, whether they give financial aid or recruit or not.
  2. There should be three leagues: one for schools that give financial aid, one for private schools that don't give financial aid, and one for good ole public schools. It is a joke that small community public single A schools like Sale Creek and Whitwell have to compete against Chattanooga Christian and Boyd Buchanan who can pull kids from all over the Chattanooga area and North Georgia. What a joke! They want to talk and brag about their beating on these small community based schools. Get in the league with McCallie, Baylor, and Notre Dame; private schools just like you that recruit just like you. Win that league and start talking smack. Do you think it is any coincidence that CCS and Boyd started to really improve in the "team sports" when the Chattanooga City schools and the Hamilton County Schools consolidated in the mid 90's? It was like "white flight" out of the county schools. All those who couldn't afford to go to McCallie or Baylor ended up at CCS or Boyd. Both are great schools with recently good athletic traditions ... however, they get so much credit for beating these small community schools that they SHOULD WAX 100% OF THE TIME!
  3. Since Boyd Baseball started trash talk and I'm not affiliated with either school, here's my 2 cents. Shouldn't Boyd beat every public school in single A. They are a recruiting D2 school that, unfortunately for community-based public A schools like Whitwell and Lookout Valley, plays in D1. Boyd's players live all over Chattanooga. It's hard for a group from one area (like Whitwell) to compete with a team made up from all over town. Look at who is in the final four in A. It's usually all private schools. I know this doesn't have anything to do with Coach leaving, but just wanted to say that Boyd's athletic programs made a vast improvement when Chattanooga city schools and Hamilton County schools merged. People were pulling their kids out of public schools left and right. Many ended up at Boyd because it is a good school that is much less expensive than Baylor and McCallie. I think Boyd is a good place with a fine athletic program ... but wanted to state my opinion since so much arrogance has come from them on coacht this year.
  4. Which coach from Whitwell are you referring to? Coach Holtcamp? Saw where Whitwell beat Lookout Valley in the District. Good luck to Bubba and the boys against Chatt. Christian and against Boyd in the Region.
  5. Chuck Harris of East Ridge finished 2nd in 1987 as a Junior after beating Jason Villars of McCallie in the Region Finals ... (can't remember the weight class, maybe 135 ... definitely not big guys). This was when you actually had to do well in the Region to advance. It's too easy to make the state now. As a Senior, Harris got disqualified in the District (remember Districts) for taking a swing at Villars in the Finals out of frustration. He could not go to the Region or State. Harris and Villars had some wars. Villars won the state as a Senior in '88 and Harris never won. Both were State Champ caliber.
  6. The lefthander that Player 24 remarked about is Mathieu (pronounced like Matthew) West. He is a good pitcher and a great kid.
  7. B.J. Church from Soddy-Daisy is a returning TSWA All-State Pitcher. He was 9-3 with a 1.14 era and 126 strikeouts in 80 innings pitched.
