  1. Has anyone seen all 4 teams play this season? Pudding, you are probably the only one who could be neutral and honest about it. I might give it a shot with 4 games left. Otherwise it's just talk. My guess is that South is the weakest link but I have nothing to back that up with. South needs another facet and they have had two weeks to install one. Nevertheless, these teams rule through 5A and possible 6A. Would love to see all play before the showdown with 'Betsy and South.

  2. The game is at South. Undoubtedly a barn burner. I am not privy to the intimacy of either team. It would be nice if someone could start a comparison of offensive styles with strengths and weadnesses. And of course, Defense will most likely be the telling tale. Crawdad? Pudding? Yes I know, it is a bit early. Don't want to junx anyone. But it sure is an interesting comparison. And yes, alot can happen in 3 weeks.

  3. Crawdad, you are correct in that the Garvin brothers are not a spray painted mock pastry found in the Wal Mart bakery. And I guess if one does not exist on the inventory then it most likely would be a bit late to father one. However, the offense...as I saw it, is lacking something. And that something will send them home early if a contingency plan is not present.

  4. My second time seeing this group. Very talented team. Lots of speed...not something South is known for. Some of the skill are only Juniors...so theoretically their best is still to be seen. If I were to give advise to the staff I would resurect the "Bunch Set" and play both sides of the hash mark with it. The bunch set has many facets that have not been seen in quite some time. A good trump card IMO. The other trump that I see is the deep ball. It should be used to open the running lanes. 'Betsy will no doubt key on the running game so the air attack is essential to success in that game. Of course they must play them one at a time.

Regardless of how many calls were actually legitimate, it still would have been excessive. It's one game and I'm sure that won't happen again. 158 yards? Two td's called back? It should only serve to create a resolve to break another barrier.

Nice show Rebels...too bad only Johnson County has good concession grub. Rebel Nation

  5. Good to hear from you Comp. Maybe the devil train will reappear the week of the Elizabethton game? Alas , I miss the days of Science Hill and Dobyns-Bennett scheduling even if we were coming up short. They were good measuring sticks. Maybe ole Batmast is converting me. Anyway looks like Sam has figured out Stacy's and Graham's formula for success. 68 points is nothing to sneeze at.

Well I reckon you have remained faithful to the cause of these Rebels. You're to be commended. I saw the first game and that's it. I hope to see this one. Elizabethton? Well, I reckon the Devil Train could make a stop there...seein' as how them Carter Countians feel they own this here domain these days. And I rekkon' a Souther haint askerred a no leetle wind storm called a Cyclone noways. Wy Hades, a leetle wind nerr hurt nobody noways. I rekkon they're a skerred already. What with the way we took their hogs and such.

Well, enough of that. We will ponder on Boone for now and make sure we take care o' business. Rebel Nation

  6. Crawdad...you still around. I see Pudding is still faithful to our end of the state. They let me out occasionally so I might just try to make this one. I saw Rogersville with a bit of trepadation. Looks like they have worked the kinks out now. Is this QB a distant third to Curt and Brandley?

  7. Well, I admire you for one thing. You refuse to throw him under the bus...even though everyone knows that is the common consersus. And yes, it shoud be another banner year...not a first round bail. However, I disagree about the Quarles thing. Quarles, Rankin, etc...these guys differ in one aspect from say...a Stacy Carter. Stacy Carter, as evidenced by his playoff decisions historically compiled at Sullivan South and to be seen at Science Hill, does not play to win. But instead, plays to teach the principle, "Death Before Dishonor". Scoff if you will but it is the gospel. On the other hand, the Quarles' of the world play no holds barred with a single-minded purpose...win at all costs. So as parents, fans, supporters...must understand this and decide if the lesson being taught is the point and support it as the ultimate goal. In my opinion, this is, as I have come to understand from experience, that ruthlessness prevails until perseverence is tested to the point of devastation and then when the power of perseverence is proven...victory is achieved. This is why Southers believed in Stacy Carter. Its called principle. Can the Indians call their strife perseverence? ...A question not for discussion from a Souther on a Tribal board. I can merely say one thing...your troops have never given up the fight. A reflection on the elders. I admire you people for this much. But I feel the common consensus is that it has come to the edge of the cliff. Victory or.... I wish you the best. From one who learved this mentality the hard way. The best to the Tribe from the Rebel faithful. REBEL NATION.

  8. Whatever it takes is what I meant. It's pretty sad when the school has had a state calibre' team 10 out of the last 12 years with nothing to show for it but 1st round bailouts with 1 or 2 exceptions. But no cigar. Pitiful! And this thread is 70+ posts and climbing. How long will you suffer? You have the athletes...so what is missing? You run an offense that does not showcase your talents potential. Incredible. And you keep hoping...this is the year! Every year should be the year with the talent you consistantly field. How long before you get tired of your status quo. It's time and everyone on this board knows it. Good fortune with your season.

  9. Batmast,

All I can say to you is that I tried to meet you halfway. I sympathize with anyone who is dealt a short hand. And I can't say that I understand it from personal experience but I do understand what it is like to have to fight for what you feel is your time. It comes in many colors but in the end it comes down to the battle. I think Curt is a perfect example of this. Sometimes it comes in the beginning...sometimes in the end. But always must be dealt with. I hope you and yours get the opportunity to make it right.

  10. Batmast,

If you are correct this season will bear witness to that purported fact. I agree with many things you say about the South staff in general. However, I will stand by Hunter Jordans sidelin and be an advocate for him. If he implodes then you may say you told me so. As well, the football staff is the only staff at South that I have any regard for. I do realize that it is your opinion that the football staff is the worst on campus currently. Understanding your position and why I will not let my support for Sam and his staff disentigrate. It potentially could be another banner year for the Rebels and Sam DOES realizes that.

As far as CD's post, I feel I am merely backing him up. He said it exactly correctly...including the part about you and jhilts. I have no burn for you personally but you have a personal issue somewhere in the system...be it your own child or otherwise. However, I see your logic and there is substance to it but not from a hater point of view. Maybe if my son were playing now I would not see through these rose colored glasses. Nonetheless, I will stand behind the staff and support them the best I can. Understanding that this season will tell the tale. Rebel Nation

  11. jhilts,

    1. Jack - South Fan...Not.

    2. batmast - South Fan...Not

I guess that leaves Crawdad and myself. But Crawdad is nothing less than a diplomat on the South threads. So I'm assuming you mean yours truly. Anyway, I'm glad you came out. I think the Rebels need all their supporters this season. And it looks like UKCATS is not deterred by much so far so I welcome someone with tough skin. Good to see you around.

  12. I will admit we don't have a clue in the secondary. That will be an issue. But I won't dog Hunter. Last year was too many people who could be but none who would be. It was, in fact, a coaches nightmare. Multiple QB's is never the solution. I know, I know...the cards fell in a strange wind. However, a hard decision befalls HJ once again. But the decision has most likely been made. Stacy chose Curt over Jake, which I disagreed with, however it proved to be a good longterm decision. One of those decisions that define a decision maker. The QB has to be set in stone and the only situation that benches him should be injury...heaven forbid. Quarterback High School needs to reclaim its rightful status. Inka? It was a bad time for me so I can't comment...except to say that South is packed this year. The secondary will tell the tale. If Hunter puts the ball in the air Rebel style then...let the party begin. The common consensus is that Enka took advantage of the home court. So be it. Sam will play it straight up...come what may. The gunpowder is being stockpiled, the Raven has his wings, and the coaches know what they have. Rebel Nation.

  13. Hope the little guy gets to see the Rebels pay back the Enka Jets with a vengeance. I'm expecting a good edition with the biggest concern the defense. Offense should be very good. Spring scrimmages with Happy Valley on the 10th and North on the 21st. See you there '81.

What's up CD? Hope you have been good. Sure do miss this place. It's almost like a ghost town now. I feel for you. The Regels should have a wonderful season and I will try to not miss much. You'll have to bring me up to speed on who is coming up. Of course I know the Raven is expected to fly but the Devil Birds Daddy says they are packed. Should be a fun season.

The "Spin Dr." plays the spring game tomarrow at 10am Central. All is going well and tomorrow will tell the tale. They take 3 RB's on the road and they have 6 scholarship ball carriers...he is number 7 and the only walk-on. But he is fired up...see article...

Anyway, I'm in the 4th grade going into the 5th now! Ha! Jessica is telling me about a year. Will try to be at the spring games to see the Rebels. Will let you know the ourcome for tomorrow. It's...do or die! Keep up the good work...REBEL NATION!

  14. Hey, Daddy-----Mutt here---was headed that way, but got to go find Jeff. I think he's crawled up on that bridge trussel about to call in the big one. Gonna buy him a padded cell and install in his den, with the big screen to watch Desperate Housewives. He loves that show, but I don't see what he sees in it.

Like they say---"What-t-t??" Only two things better than Blue Bell, "What-t-t-t??

We eat all we can and sell the rest!! Hmmmmmmmmmm-Blue Bell---best ice cream in the country, Hmmmmmmmmmmm Rocky Road, baby. Let's do it. Dang-g-g-g-, I'm starting to remind me of the Compusatman. Whew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You Called! I hope you'r not dissing me...but instead, upholding the tradition. I'll assume your Love for me shines through. However, it is Crawdad that carries the flag. Make no mistake...he needs all the assistance he can garner. I surely appologize for not being in a position to manage the SOB club this season. I see that some are carrying on quite well in my absense. However, I must say that Crawdad is doing quite well and brings a rather fairness that I was never quite able to weather. It's tough being a good person. Wouldn't you say....Jack? And Batmast...where did you come from? I thought you had gone back to your default thread....Croquet I do believe. Lovie...how I do miss a nice Sunday afternoon game of Croke with you. Croke...you were always so dilligent at such a leasurely game. We all Croke in salute to you! Oh, and by the way...Batmast...all complaints and other issues should be addressed to MuttandJeff. RebelNation!

  15. It reminded me of the game in 2006 when the real DB beat South 44-0. But then again.....everything reminds me of that game.:)

Jack...not even a reach around? 2006? What about 2007 and 2008? 2008...the year you beat the 'Toppers by one point? I know...your the Mighty DB! Maybe when you get some Southers in your camp you might be able to win a state title! We'll be sure and bring you some QB's. And 2006? I like how you did in the platoffs that year...just like most years actually. Don't worry though...we'll be there in a few years. And we will bring all the Quarterbacks you need. Maybe by that time you will have a decent coach with a decent offense...say...Someone with the last name of...Carter! Revenge is usually sweet. Oh, but you didn't know that part did you! It's OK lovie...a little Souther blood never hurt anyone...'specially city slickers. Oh yeah...REBEL NATION!

  16. The Black Devil Train is well overdue. Mind your children and button up your wrappings for the Dark Hour is upon you. The witching bird will perch and cast it's shadow of wretchedness over it's most beguiled victim. But a shadow it will cast...and the darkness it will implore...for it has been said...of the Stately Bire of Yore...Victory I Implore...Quoth the Raven...Evermore.

  17. Normally at Rebel Camp. Although it is not on the calendar. Should be next weekend if they have it. I'm sure you know but I believe this is all the Seniors:

    1. AJ H.

    2. Paul

    3. Alex

    4. JJ

    5. AJ R.

    6. Brooks

    7. JC

    8. Dylan

And of course I'm not sure but then there could be Fenves. Normally 5 are chosen but could be different. I believe the transfer is an underclassman...well all the transfers.

I would say JJ, Alex and JC are givens...wouldn't you?

  18. You are right '04...sandbagging is the norm. Other than South, I can name North and Elizabethton from years gone by that laid it out for everyone to see. I have a suggestion for upping the interest and excitment of the Jamboree. Pit one region against the other and make it in two nights. Or maybe three nights with the special events on the first night. Oh yeah, talk about gate! What do you think Crawdad? What about it Volman, is that a little over the top? Oh well, time for Jack to pop out of the box...

  19. I view it as a taste...taste of the Tri-Cities if you will. And I believe all Coaches should give a good effort...not the sandbagging that the Vikings did each year. The fans want to see a sampling of the best you've got and after all it's the fans that make it Friday Nights. If there were no fans the boys would play a bit different I believe. I understand needing to avoid early injuries. Yes, what a waste that is to be injured in the Jamboree. But a few coaches play the Jamboree no different than a game and South has been one of those schools that does this. Many people on the T actually lambast South for going no holds-barred in the Jamboree. I commend the South coaches for a fine display of talent to give the fans a sampling of things to come. I mean, do it right or don't do it at all. Hold it close to the vest...it's just BS. Play the game...and play it hard.
