4th Annual Border Wars/Maddie Memorial Tournament April 16-17, 2009 Westview High School will host a High School softball tournament! Martin Recreational Complex Hwy. 45E South – Martin, TN High School Event: This is our second year as the Maddie Memorial Tournament and 4th year in a row to host. This tournament is dedicated to Madison Fagan who passed away a few years ago after being struck by lightning. Our primary focus for the tournament is to make enough money to create scholarships over the next 5 years for a graduating senior. We are opening the tournament to the first 24 teams to reserve a spot. Last year we created $2000 dollars in scholarship money from the tournament and community support. The Westview Lady Charger Softball team would like to thank everyone that participated in the Maddie Memorial Tournament this weekend. The tournament was an absolute success and we appreciate your support. The tournament will alow Westview to create scholarships in memory of Madison Fagan. Madison was tragically killed a few years ago when she was struck by lightning. Madison would have been an 8th grader this year. The tournament and community support will create scholarships at a minimum for the next 5 years. Thanks again. The final 4 teams had All Tournament players selected: Milan, Westview, Huntingdon, Lexington Westview All Tournament Team- Grace Ann Swaim and Mckenzie Norris Milan, Lexington and Huntingdon are all very class act programs and we would like to wish them good luck for the rest of the year as well. Congrats to Huntingdon and Lexington for making it to the championship game.

The bottom line is this: The west can find teams in the west, the middle in middle, and so on. There are plenty of good teams in each part of the state to keep the talent level up. Give it a rest on the Middle Tennessee dominance. The team with the best pitching and quality hitters will win and there's not much we can do about it as coaches. If you have the talent you will win, if you don't you won't. And as far as some other quotes on summer ball. I have several girls tell me that they get zero coaching out of summer. Yes, they get to play but nobody and I mean nobody works on fundamentals with kids. Highschool kids shouldn't have to be taught to slide and how to tag up at 3B on a flyball but that's the case.......And some of thiese kids are playing for Middle Tennessee Softball Teams. The overall concept has become a joke in my opinion. Without highschool ball some of the kids would know very little about the game of softball and would not be prepared for the next level.
