  1. If it was 1986 I would agree, but it's 2016. I know the taste of crow, but I'm not buying any stock in Halls Inc. just yet. If Halls keeps it to within 14 pts, I'll start believing.

Those were the days! If it was 1986 it would be dog whoopin time. But that was a while ago. Now? Not sure the Rebs have a lot to worry about but we can dream!
  2. East Hamilton lost to Cleveland in the playoffs. A week later Cleveland was beaten for the 2nd time by Knox West. 1st game was kinda close. The playoff game was a blowout. Maryville beat that same Knox West team 42-20 in a game not as close as the final score. West scored only 1 offensive touchdown against Maryville's 1st string. Their 1st touchdown came off a blocked punt. Their last TD was scored on the last play of the game against Maryville backups. Of course comparitive scores dont matter.

Bradley played Maryville tough in the 1st half. 14-14 at the half. Maryville adjusted and got out to a 42-14 lead before their reserves took over. Bradley scored their last TD on Maryville reserves.

I learned a long time ago you can't use comparitive scores even though I used comparitive scores in the 1st paragraph. I remember 3rd round of the playoffs in 2006. Undefeated Red Bank vs Undefeated Maryville. Red Bank beat Brainerd 77-8 earlier that season. Maryville beat Brainerd 30-26 in the opening round of the playoffs. Stump Martin was on radio saying Maryville is in for a whipping. Everyone was saying look how much worse Red Bank beat Brainerd so Red Bank would whip Maryville. Maryville whips Red Bank 38-14.

I remember another time Red Bank came to Maryville with high expectations - 2008.  That year Halls (which is the last region/district opponent to have beaten Maryville IIRC, oh my how times have changed) played Maryville tough during the season, losing 38-30 in a game that went back and forth.  We destroyed Rhea County in the first round and then went to Red Bank and got our tails whipped by a very big and agressive RB team.  I said to myself, "Self, you should go to the Maryville vs Red Bank game in the third round because that's going to be a good game and Maryville is going to get its comeuppance."  I went.  Red Bank was mighty fired up, so much so that they started jumping around mid-field generally making a nuisance of themselves before the game.  They too thought Maryville was going to get a comeuppance.  Final score anybody?  And it wasn't even that close.

  3. Blame "Travel Ball" on the current lack of hometown pride. I feel like travel ball has turned kids into the equivalent of mercenaries and nothing more. Kids play on a new team every season or even week if the parents don't like the coach.

I don't know these kids who left to go play in the private sector, but I would bet "christian-based" values didn't have as much to with the decision as baseball. Even then, if you're concerned about your kid being the best player they can be, would you rather face HVA, Powell, Halls, FHS, ect or Midway, Harriman, and Tellico Plains?

I guess going 10-0 in a district where your biggest foe is Rockwood is a lot more fun than grinding it out in AAA ball. Less competition equals better stats, I guess. It's a shame. I remember when the saying was, "to be the man, you have to beat the man."

Makes no sense to me at all, but then again my kid what taught hometown pride and couldn't wait to dawn his towns colors. I'm afraid that's a dying trait now-a-days.

Unfortunately, I think some of the parents would rather their kids get to face lesser competition so it makes their son look better.

Speaking of Halls, what does the Devils' staff look like this year?

  4. The CRAP that i have heard went on this past weekend is PATHETIC...If you live in Halls then you know exactly what I am talking about. This happened back in the mid 1990's as well...Kevin Julian is a Red Devil thru and thru and the way some parents have acted lately is absolutely PATHETIC. I am ashamed to say that I have supported Halls for close to two decades. Do you REALLY think this is Kevin's fault? If so, then you have no idea about football and what Coaches go thru and put in on a daily basis. The problem is there are parents that think their kid is a prima donna and they should be on the field at all times and be given the ball every time Halls is on Offense. And when that doesn't happen they wanna take their kids to another school or start a petition. Kevin keep your head held high and don't worry about the fence hugging Quarterbacks that are trying to re-live their high school glory thru their own kids.

    I haven't heard. What happened?

  5. Anybody know what the master motivator Kevin Julian's record is at Halls since he took over? I think you could count his wins on one hand and a couple fingers. Some of you Halls fans are killin' me, must be players or students.

Actually it's a bit better than that. Based on my recollection and without checking cause I'm just too lazy, he's gone to the playoffs twice and has been better than 5-5 for three out of his six years as head coach. This year and last year it's more a question of jimmies and joes, although he has underachieved to an extent during his tenure overall. I hope he gets it turned around now with the new offense.

  6. What a disappointment! Didn't see that one coming. Hated to see O'Laughlin go down. He is a workhorse. Hate reading the posts that try to minimize his impact to the team. Anybody who plays with determination and heart should be commended. Halls doesn't seem to have much heart and determination this year, but we have a lot of "individual" achievers who are missing the mark.

I don't get the sense that O'Laughlin's efforts are being minimized. I think rather that some are saying that some of the other backs are needing to get a few more touches. With that said, O'Laughlin will be special. I also disagree that there are too many individual achievers, if by that you mean they don't play as a team. Without SC's three big plays it would have been a lot different outcome. Halls played well and should be commended for playing as a team as they did. They didn't quit. The defense had one huge defensive stand after another in the second half -- both run defense and pass defense. This Halls team plays more "together" than any I can think of in recent memory. So, basically, I guess I disagree with everything you say, especially when it comes to a purported lack of heart and determination. That's just asinine.

  7. Looks like you were prophetic there Ironman. Once Gibby FINALLY got to touch the ball and once K Wagg FINALLY got some touches SC couldn't stop our offense, except of course when we went to the air.

I'm pretty frustrated right now. The team needs to keep their heads up and realize they've got practically the whole season ahead and it can be a great year!! I'll betcha SC didn't have over 50 yds running the ball. The defense was brutal against the run.

  8. as a matter of fact this is true! thank you for the compliment. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

    Hey, it's your world. /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />

  9. Like i said earlier the Rebels go down and go down hard this friday to Alcoa! /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />

could be ... but it will not be by you out of breath , hands on your hips in 8min devils now will it. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

Devilfanatic, I didn't know you were a "Red" Devil fanatic over there in Gainesboro with over 3,000 posts, few if any of which have been on a Halls thread, but that Greyrider is a genius and a legend in his own mind, so welcome aboard!!

  10. about the platooning system i was a skeptic at first to be honest i like most of the people on this board thought that the product on the field wouldn't be as good but i've been watching CAK and they do it no one plays both ways it is a different 11 each side of the ball and i'm amazed at what the difference is between guys who don't have to play both ways and the guys that only play both ways, now saying this i think at powell they might be a little heavy on the offensive side of the ball but who knows all i'm saying is a team can take players that aren't as gifted and compete and even dominate players who are better but play both ways and because of this why doesn't powell do more to wear down their opponent it might have just been in the jamboree but if they do play guys only one way i would expect them to be a hurry up offense and just wear down the other team but just my own thoughts

Sorry off topic here, but it would be more glorious for us old-timers if you young-uns would use some punctuation. /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />

I suppose I agree with your post, once I deciphered it. But even Powell (at least last year) didn't go all the way to a two platoon system. Jordan Allen, Matt Abba and Jimmy Franklin played both ways a bunch.

  11. I was going to stay off of this subject but.... you changed my mind. I agree with your post. I thought it was hilarious last week when QBQUEEN asked about the general behavior of our fans and labeled our cheerleaders as "rude". (Still wondering how cheerleaders could be rude) Different Red Bank players took turns in warmups gesturing and basically taunting the Maryville crowd especially #11. Their entire warmup session was basically a self imposed pep rally. Then the whole team gathered on the HOME sideline and gave it a group effort before leaving the field. BAD IDEA. QBQUEEN I hope you were treated ok and got out of our "war zone" with your life. Might want to talk to your own coach about a few things though, like controlling his own team.

What RB did last night before the game is apparently their MO. They did it at their home field against Halls a week ago -- came over to the visitors side and acted quite bush.

  12. halls fans, seriously, how do you think we match up with maryville? please give honest answers, we never bashed u guys and i just reall want to know from a team that has played both of us what ur opinion is.

    thanks

Some of us have debated that point. Here are some random thoughts.

A few think that you won't be able to stop Maryville's QB, who is uncanny in his ability to find the open man. The importance of the loss of Benford will be magnified against Maryville. It seems to me that one key will be MHS's ability to hold off your excellent D linemen. BTW, who is no. 72 on the O line? He's a monster.

If you are really as good as you showed Friday night, then my personal opinion is that Maryville is in trouble. I like the way your QB gets in position and hits his receivers on timed routes. Maryville, unless some of them are hurt, has some good DB's though.

Halls laid an egg, meaning we didn't play up to our ability. Mind you, it would have taken a perfect game for us to beat RB.

I didn't see much from your running game, which is more of a weakness for Maryville. If RB can establish a run, then that's another worry for Maryville.

Maybe Ironman80 will share his thoughts. He's a lot better at analyzing these things than I am.

With all that said, it's going to be a fun game to watch.

  13. Thomas9 and one of the other RB posters are correct. RB drove the ball well on their first scoring drive. A short punt by Halls and good return by RB to Halls' 30 resulted in an easy second score. Down 14-0, on our next series we ran the ball over 50 yards on RB mostly up the middle and then we attempted the long pass which RB took to the house, which did indeed deflate us. I guess that's human nature, but we weren't the same team on offense thereafter. I agree too with Thomas9 that we never should have thrown that type of pass in that situation.

Sanchez is a player! Maryville will need to account for him or he will be after Brent all night. I saw him after the game. He's large. Hated to see the Benford kid go down. For the short time he was in the game you could see that he was a playmaker. Hope he does well. RB really could have used him next week.

These kinds of games happen. I certainly don't think Powell this year was any better than Halls. Sometime teams match up better, sometimes game plans are better, etc. RB has the potential to beat Maryville, but those Red Rebels are a good, sneaky and smart bunch.

I will say this, Bearden is on a roll. Nobody believed in them, even after they spanked Ooltawah. And the RB game was a lot like the Bearden game. What that tells me is that we just weren't up to it for those two teams, both of which are HUGE. Everybody else we were in the games with.

Anyhow, great job Halls on a fine season!! Once again, I'll say I'm proud of you! You've brought respectability back to Red Devil nation, and we'll get better and be back next year, bigger-faster-stronger! Make that your motto and see it come to fruition in your off-season efforts!! We'll miss you seniors. Thanks for your leadership and sacrifices over the years. You're the last group who didn't start out with Coach J as head coach.

  14. I'm going to contact coacht. I must have a technical glitch because you must be reading posts that I cant'.

I've fallen victim to that "glitch" too, tpoole! Why, just the other day I posted on this very thread what I thought was an innocuous little comment about my opinion that WB vs Bearden would be a very good game, what with Halls having scrimmaged WB in the Spring and played Bearden this Fall and all. But try as I might I can't find it. It's plum puzzlin' to an ol' boy from Halls who gets labeled by a slingblade as a person who, by virtue of mere geographical residence, believes that certain demes are superior to others within biologically distinct hominid populations.

  15. OK here it is. It's Halls to lose.

I expect the D to be awesome Friday night. Hughes & Leonard to sack the QB no less than five times.

I expect Hodge, Carr, Turner and Gresham to have at least one int.

I expect for Kitts, Kelly and Waggoner to run the ball like there is no tomorrow.

I expect Dayton to catch the ball and run like the wind like he has the past three weeks.

I expect the OL to open up holes that my grandma could run through.

I expect there to be chili on the hotdogs and good Hot Chocolate(no watered down stuff please).

I expect to give a cheerleader of my choice a big hug if we win.

    Lets rock the park.

    Baseballmad, you da man! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
