  1. Just an outside observation: I don't think there are many schools or coaches that are lined up in waiting to play schools that consistently humiliate weaker opponents on the football field by scoring 50 to 70 points a game. It would be hard for me to get mad at other schools that I have beaten badly (50 plus) every time I play them for not playing me.Also since the TSSAA has messed up the playoffs not many coaches are willign to put a playoff spot on the line by playing SP. Signal, BB, etc

The problem is some of these schools (Bledsoe, Grace, etc) regularly beat us by big margins in boys/girls basketball, baseball and softball. The real issue is playing us in all sports. If you don't want to play us in football that is fine but don't expect us to play you in those other sports.

And I agree about the TSSAA screwing things up. Playing and losing to tougher opponents should not hurt you in the playoffs. There should be allowances for playing good teams otherwise this will continue to be a problem

  2. The weeks we need are 8 and 10. Grundy decided to play week one. And we really don't need an Alcoa or a CAK. Already have Polk, Signal Mtn, Grundy and Boyd as non-region. We only have 40 kids so depth is a real issue.

The weeks we need are 7 and 10. Boyd moved their game to week 8. Seq County is the other non-region game scheduled

  3. The T$$AA web site had Rhea Co. and Westmoreland open on week 7. don't know if that is a good fit with the schedule that you all have.

Coach Grider is checking it daily (or maybe several times a day). I'm not sure what discussions he has already had. Too many big schools with a lot of depth would be pretty brutal at the end of the season. We have Boyd week 8 and Polk week 9. Be pretty tough if we have to add 3A or 4A size schools week 7 and 10 too. We might not have enough kids to play in the playoffs

  4. Moto u will have to overlook Abassader as he downplays ALOT...SP will be the favorite without a doubt...We have the bullseye and are going to have to get used to it these next few years...We do have some holes to fill without a doubt like others but it's always a pretty smooth transition replacing a Thoroughbred with a Quarter horse if u know what I mean...Lineman will be younger but some with more overall ability than the ones we lost...Defense should be on par with 2003 and 2008 teams or......Better

We are replacing most of our line, our 2600 yrd back/DB, our senior QB and most importantly all the senior team leaders that made this team come together and be championship caliber. The talent is there but I'll have to see if we have some leaders step up. A team without leaders won't survive our schedule as a team

  5. So from what I can gather on this board as well as the 3A/4A board, South Pittsburg's schedule looks like this. When are the Marion, Whitwell and Lookout games?

    2011 South Pittsburg Pirates

    Week 1 Grundy County

    Week 2 ??

    Week 3 Sequatchie County

    Week 4 Baylor North

    Week 5 ??

    Week 6 ??

    Week 7 ??

    Week 8 Boyd Buchanan

    Week 9 Polk County

    Week 10 ??

Weeks 2, 5 and 6 are our 3 region games... jasper, LV and Whitwell but maybe not in that order. 7 and 10 are still open. Even talking to some KY teams

  6. So Boyd is 8th now? So I read where Zone said something about Signal Mtn leaving a void in our schedule...Are we not continuing that rivalry? Who are the possible choices next year to be added besides Grundy and Sequatchie? Anyone heard? What about Tyner? I realize they didn't travel well but those were two great games to watch if we could work it out...Tyner squeezed into those last 3-4 games could be a disaster though

No SM moving up is causing region schedules to be shuffled. We are still playing them but it is a non-region game now. Tyner may not have had a open date. still have to have the same dates open for it to work

  7. Not renewing a contract means that a team made a choice to not play again. It happens all the time in high school sports and college sports. South Pitt played Tyner 2 years ago but have not played the last two years. No one is saying that they are avoiding each other. I guess they made a choice to go different directions. It happens and that doesn't mean a school should be criticized for choosing to play different teams. If some team lied or backed out of an agreement that is a separate matter.

I think conflicts with region schedules with the realignment 2 years ago made us unable to schedule with Tyner. When there are mutual open dates is where it is an issue. Grace chose not to schedule us so we chose not to schedule them in other sports. Only fair

  8. I was at the game this year and our side was filled up. I have seen Boyd bring more but I would not call it a small crowd. It was the week we were on fall break may have something to do with it. Whatever the case acoording to the newspaper MC had already schedule them then drop the Bucs.

From the rumblings I have heard Boeck is on the hot seat at jasper...needs the wins so picked up an easier game

  9.

Right now our district has 8 teams in it which means you have 14 district games in basketball on your schedule. When Signal Mtn moves out next year, that will drop to 12 games. I'm sure that Coach Phillips would want to have more court time than 14 games before the District Tournament. If he can only fill the remaining 10-14 games with teams that are willing to play football, it will be difficult for him to have a full schedule.

We only have 19 games on the schedule plus a tourny this year. I think games with Boyd may be in the future to replace Grace. Unless he tries to play more it doesn't look like BB games will be a problem

  10. I don't know who he is talking about, but for years that is how the basketball team has done things. If they think they can beat you, they will play you. If they think they can't beat you, they won't play you. It sounds like with the new policy they won't have many basketball or baseball games either since so many people are dodging them. I wish South Pitt well on filling the schedule. I read where Cleavland is playing Alcoa, maybe they are still open.

Since there are many schools that don't have football teams baseball and basketball games that we drop are not hard to fill. We have a pretty big district in baseball and basketball so we have a pretty full schedule just playing those games. The only teams I know for sure that refuse to play us in football are Bledsoe and Grace but I'm sure there are more. As far as picking only teams in baseball and basketball that we think we can beat is false... we have lost a lot of games over the years for that to be the case. We just lost big to Grace last week...for the last time anyway. Aren't you a Grace fan?

  11. ok have a ? for the ole great one,,,,,you seem to forget that JB lost there #1 tailback on yall's first o play now where would sp been if yall had lost Raquis on the first d play ,,,,i am not saying anything else about this game,,,you folks that have seen them play 1 or maybe 2 time's already no more than the folk's that have watched them for yr's

My opinion..... we might not have mercy ruled them but the way our line was blocking and my son was throwing the ball (and running) and the fact we have 3 other good (but young backs including Raquis' brother) we still win. If ya'll don't lose him early it might be a closer game but one player doesn't make a team 35 points better (or worse). Now if we lost Raquis and Travis.... it might have been a close game

BTW ...I saw film on 4 games and what happened was about what was expected if we played our game.

  12. Article in Chattanooga TFP Area’s elite have trouble scheduling

    From that article >>>>

“There are a couple of teams that have either backed out of playing us or their coach has lied to my face about not having open dates,†said Grider, whose program has played just one nondistrict 1A opponent in the last 10 years. “So we’re making a policy to not play those schools in any other sport beginning right now. We won’t play them in the basketball games we were scheduled to, and we won’t keep them on our baseball or softball schedules, either.

“It’s fine for them to beat us by 30 points in basketball, and we’re just supposed to smile and take it. But they won’t play us in football. How do you expect your program to ever get better if you don’t play good competition your own size? There’s a whole other district of teams our size in Chattanooga, but Boyd-Buchanan is the only one of them that will play us. The people dodging us better hope they don’t meet us in the playoffs, because I have a long memory.â€

  13. 2011 South Pittsburg Pirates

    Week 1 ??

    Week 2 ??

    Week 3 ??

    Week 4 ??

    Week 5 ??

    Week 6 ??

    Week 7 Boyd Buchanan

    Week 8 ??

    Week 9 Polk County

    Week 10 ??

Who the heck knows. These are the only two games I have heard. It appears they are having trouble finding people to step up and play them. Zonepirate said they needed games in weeks 1, 8,10 so apparently the others have been filled, but these are the only two I have been told.

Week 8 and 10 are the only open ones

  14. I didnt mean any disrespect to anyone, I was just saying that I watched the title game and JB just didnt come out and give SP all they had and I believe it was a good lesson learned and with all the starters that JB returns next year you gotta believe they will be back and much more prepared for the big game than they were this year. But at the same time SP is the state champions and very deserving of it, so once again congratulations.

I think they gave us all they had...just wasn't enough

  15. Would you play Alcoa if you thought you could win

I think we would if we could be competitive. We just don't have the depth to play with them...... and prob not the talent from what I saw in the Championship game. The Polk game took a toll on us physically the last two years. I think they and Signal are about all we can stand of powerhouse teams with just 40 kids on the roster.

  16. Hey Zone, can u share with us what the schedule looks like now for next year?

I know Grundy is week 1 and Polk is week 9 but other than that I don't know weeks. SM leaving cause some scrambling in the schedules and I have seen the actual line up.

I did hear that jasper dropped Boyd (I think Coach B is feeling the heat and needs wins) . And Bledsoe picked up Whitwell instead of playing us as did Cascade.
