  1. I don't think that either team could beat Fulton.

I live in Middle Tennessee and I always here how if Maryville played Ensworth they would lose. When Maryville was in lower classifications people like you bladerunner always said Maryville is good but if they were in 6A they would lose. I guess its because Maryville is the standard and some folks want to take them down. Yea and I guess if Maryville was in the NFL they couldnt beat the Seahawks. I get it. Everyone has an opinion but please offer something more than that. Fulton is great and all and I guess we should shake in our boots because they ran up the Powell score which GQ would not have done but Riddle me this....How many folks have thought the very same thing you think and when they match wits with GQ they find it not so easy. Can someone tell me in his tenor as head coach at Maryville how many games he has lost? Is it less than 15? So before going down this road think it through. Maryville can be beat but so can Fulton and so can the Seahawks.

  2. I bought a one year membership in 2006 and upgraded to plus membership the next year in 2007 with a four year agreement. Now you have downgraded me and I can not send personal messages to my friends. I should be grandfathered in. You keep changing the rules as you go. If it was a four year deal then it should be a four year deal. If it is just some oversite then please accept my apologies. Please let me know what I need to do. I have not been on since August but that should not matter. Thank You

  3. I guess my biggest questions about Greeneville's ability to score go back to a couple of things.

    1. Alcoa and Clinton weren't able to ring up a lot of points on the Rebel defense and both teams had athletes all over the field.

    2. I am skeptical of the difference in level of play between NET and the Knoxville Valley. Based on prior years (and this year), the Valley seems to be a bit better in overall quality of play.

What catches my eye more, hoever, is that Greeneville has given up 20+ a game in the playoffs. Even if Greeneville does score points, I don't think that they want to get in a shootout.

Then again, if the Rebels don't find a cure for that pesky case of fumbleitis they've caught this week....this may be all moot.

Hey Sol. Agree with most of this but it is your point #1 that is dead on. It is uncanny how Maryville continues to shut down the great skill players of their opponents. I watched Maryville in the boro in 04 and Melrose I thought had the quicker players but Maryville played stifilling defense to edge a 7-6 win. Yes they do fumble but they never seem to break or loose their concentration or focus on defense which may be their best offense at times. I see nothing in this game that would change my mind. The cream will rise and I believe Maryville will advance and Lord help the other guys if Maryville fixes the fumbling problem.

  4. I agree with Sol that the weather and wet conditions may play into this. In the end though the quality will show through and as greyrider said GQ usually does not run up the score so I believe you will see a typical Maryville in the playoffs kind of score. Maybe something like Marville 38 West 12. Just to much talent for West to handle for 4 quarters although they can be a very dangerous team so no direspect intended. If Maryville looks down the road and they usually do not then things could be differant but for now I will stick with my prediction.

  5. Really ? I lived in Knoxville for close to 15 years , and I like El " Jimmydoors " much better . /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

I'm really impressed with how you can see this team keep getting better and better every week . Amazing how Coach Quarles and staff do this every year . This team looks nothing like the team that played Halls to start the year . I'm not looking past any of the teams we still have to play this year , but our region does seem a little down this year more than normal . We have to keep getting better though , because from a distant view , Hillsboro , Henry Co. , Maplewood and others seem to better this year .

Pepvol I live out this way and Maplewood and Hillsboro have already put one in the loss column and I think Hillsboro have lost twice but let me tell you that Henry County is the real deal. I would be surprised if they do not make it to the Boro. I am no expert on these teams out here but keep an eye on these guys. They are good. Bobby Johnson the head coach of Vandy was at their game last night scouting their players and once again they ran over another opponent. Beat Memphis Treadwell 48-14. They have a running back that looks like Herschel Walker. I do not think they have been tested yet but right now they look good.

  6. To be quite honest, I was fully prepared for last year's game to be rehashed on here 15 times this week. I'm glad that it wasn't actually.

No, not tonight.......Mrs. Sol made plans without consulting the schedule on the fridge so I will be eating Mexican food with with some couple friends of ours tonight in Knoxville (since the one strike Maryville does have is not a good cheap Mexican restaurant IMO).

Yeah I know what you mean. The good people of Maryville still think Los Amigos is great Mexican food. Well have a good time and tell Mrs. Sol that she needs a copy of the schedule to take with her so she can plan better. /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

  7. Non-region game, so Maryville will start slow (as seems to be the trend) and WB will keep it close for a while. Rebs pull away in second half.

    35-6

    (missed extra point)

Missed extra point /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> Now that is funny. Good score. I agree with that. Gonna watch it from Nashville. Are you going to the game Sol?

  8. Not that I am aware of. The big deal is that the players get a lot of the equipment cheap. So a player can get a new pair of gloves or new cleats a lot cheaper than going to Dicks, or wherever, and buying them that way. So I think that is the benefit for Maryville, and Nike gets the benefit of us showing off their gear. Of course there is probably more to it that I am totally unaware of, but that is one benefit the players get.

The Nike uniforms are very expensive and cost the school a great deal of money. So why does Maryville do it? Well exposure is certainly one of the reasons but Nike also comes to Maryville and sets a camp called SPARQ training. The acronym stands for something but I do not know what it is. The training is based on a set of skills that are done that lead to a score that each player receives. Kind of like an NFL combine. After the regions are realigned for next year and if there are openings on the schedule it may possibly lead to games with other high profile Nike schools. Even out of state schools but Maryville will have to wait for realignment to see. Hey just maybe everybody will finally get what they want on here. Maryville traveling to Georgia or wherever to play "Powerhouse High School" to finally play a nationally ranked team. Then maybe everybody will shut up about who Maryville plays but I doubt it.

  9. To Maryville Fans: You have a great program I am not doubting that...But what is the common theme in this tread is that you have not played a single out of state team, played a DII school, or any team worth anything until maybe the state championship throughout this entire 65 game win streak. I said it once and ill say it again, "To be the best, you have to BEAT THE BEST" /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="

Need I say more. This post sums up my frustrations with coming on here and trying to have intelligent conversations with football fans. IT NEVER ENDS. EVER. See you on Friday guys.

  10. Why is it that so many Maryville fans disrespect teams that they don't even play with posts like this?

Sorry to have offended you big red big blue but I am just so sick of logging on here and attempting to read some good posts and chat with some good football fans and it turns into a Maryville bashing party. I see you only quoted part of my post and that is typical but if you were being fair you would have read all the posts that lead to what I am saying. I see you have nothing to offer to those who would try to bring down the accomplisments of teenage kids. It is my fault for allowing myself to debate with some on here who have not even gotten out of puberty. I just wish you guys with come up with some new material like who is going to win the games on Friday Night instead "our classification is better than your classification" and "if Maryville played Northwestern High...". See my point? It just gets old and now I remember why I stopped posting for a while.

  11. Agree Greyrider. These forums always start out with a good idea then turn to Maryville bashing. Look national rankings are all based on reputation. There are no national playoffs or BCS bowls for high schools so it is pointless to carry on and on about how Maryville could not compete at the National level and how they would get whipped by 15 Florida teams. Listen people you do not live anywhere but here in the great state of Tennessee and in this state Maryville is your daddy. End of story. Get used to it. If Dont like it then move.

  12. Kinda had the feeling the game would go this way but it was just my gut. Heritage was at home and tired of being trampled by Maryville. They showed up the first half to play and Maryville was going through the motions but once focused quickly showed what they are capable of doing. Hey these are kids subject to emotional swings and this is not the last team that is going to come out swinging at Maryville. Like Solomon said they have to be prepared for this from jump street. Maryville proved they got it when it counts. Good win for them and now GQ can remind them of this first half effort before they play Powell and maybe that will keep them focused. Congrats Rebels!

  13. Update since August. Still not the same team as last year. Lost big series at home against Rays. Things are changing in the A.L. East and maybe it is good for the game but the Sox still have time to find some magic. They will get in the postseason but they will probly draw the red-hot Angels and they have not matched well with them this year so it does not look good. Big series this weekend with the also red-hot Jays. It will tell us where the Sox are. Lets see if they can pick themselves up off the mat. Go Sox!

  14. Well I'm not putting any money on it..... But I am trying to show a little confidence and support in the team I pull for. I know Maryville is better prepared and better equiped than Heritage but stranger things have happened..... /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

Well scoot 91 I like your spirit. Good for you believing in your team. I am sure your team will be up for the occasion but the second half will proove to much for Heritage and Maryville will run away with it. The streak lives on.....Here is praying for good clean game and no injuries. Good luck rest of the season though.

  15. Sorry about everything I ever said! That wasnt the same team that Played AC, which by the way had their way with Fulton! It was like Clinton just didnt think they could beat Maryville, as soon as they came out! Sorry, I guess we can go on to Campbell Co. and take it from there. I still say, once Clinton decides to play again, we will do good! Especially with the region being so down!

At least you had the decency to apologize. Word of advice when you are a heavy underdog. Lay low and dont talk trash. Make your prediction humbly then if you are right people will begin to respect you and even if you are wrong you have not lost face. Not trying to tell you what to do but it is good advice. It is up to you what you do with it.

  16. That is a great point and always one of my thoughts.

Clinton could be the strongest since Jimmy Gaylor was the HC up there. Part of what has set Maryville apart from many, has been their ability to prepare and focus on one team at a time. I think among all the things the coaching staff does right at MHS is work hard to keep it this way. It is the team schedule during the season. Every week they practice the same things on the same day. The players never wonder what they are going to work on that day at practice. In this way they are mentally prepared to be coached.

Maryville will be prepared for an improved Clinton team and the high of beating Alcoa again needs to go away. Clinton my not be a one dimensional team any longer like years past so something??™s will have a different look. The good thing is Maryville looks like they are finding this teams identity and developing the playmakers.

A Maryville win would make them 2-0 in the region and that needs to be the focus not the streak.

All good points and like others do enjoy your posts as well. Let me ask you though were you surprised that Clinton lost to Anderson County? Is AC good or is another year were Clinton will be just average again because I really thought they would win that game. It is a rivalry and all but I was a little surprised. Not putting the cart before the horse and of course Maryville will have to guard against overlooking opponets. (they do this well) This years region foes all have at least one loss. (I think) They will have to motivate themselves to play these region teams because as of right now they do not look that good.

  17. Watched on the internet here in Nashville and was very happy about the outcome. Sol good prediction. Tonight these kids found their own identity. Some of them have never started before this year. Now they have proved to themselves and their coaches they can win big games. Great for the confidence. I said earlier today if they played mistake free and controlled time of posession they would have chance. I have to admit they surprised me at how poised they played. Proud of these guys. Alcoa was fast but predictable. They did not run many schemes or plays. Nothing tricky or hard to figure out. You got to come at GQ with more than that if you want to win. Not a real threat left on the regular season schedule except maybe West or Central. Clinton will not provide much competition. This team will continue to improve with more playing time and that is scary for the rest of the Region. Congrats to the Rebels. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

  18. All right, since I hate to keep poor REDSOX in waiting any longer, I give you all Sol's pick of the week.

Alcoa should win this game. More talent, quality coaches, the entire free world cheering them on, etc. BUT!!!! There are three reasons I don't think they can. Two of them I will post next week after the game (PM me if you wanna know them now), but here is reason #3 -

Don't ever bet against a GQ coached football team, no matter how dire the circumstances. I've seen them very out-talented several times before, only to surprise everyone.

I still think the streak will end sometime this year, just not tonight.

    Maryville - 30

    Alcoa - 20

Very profound and well thought out. I hope you are right. By the way "poor" is not the word that would describe me best but I have known poverty in my life just not monetary poverty. I would give my prediction but I can not bring myself to say Maryville will not win a game. Oops! I guess you now have my prediction but your reason #3 is what gives me hope. Maryville can win this game and I think it can go either way but it will come down to mistakes and speed. In the game of football give me speed and most of the time it will win. Speed kills. Speed knows no slumps. Either your fast or you are not. Maryville will need to control time of possesion and of course not turn the ball over. They do this and they will win. Do it not and they will lose. I am not an expert just a fan. That is what makes this fun. Will be watching and cheering for my Rebels from the state capital. God speed and pray for a clean game with no injuries. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

  19. REDSOX I know you are in Nashville, so you probably didn't know this, Maryville added a whole new section of season tickets on the right side (pressbox view) so that only leaves a small section toward the endzone and high up behind the student section to sit in. If you are not a student I wouldn't sit anywhere near the student section (either side) they keep stuffing them in there. The student section for both schools is on the east end of each side.

    "WE WILL PROTECT OUR HOUSE"

So what you are saying is that if you do not have a season ticket then your pretty much screwed. I can not say I am suprised. Do you have season tickets? If not then where to watch the game from?
