Former Jefferson County High School football coach Justin Anderson accepted a job offer Thursday morning to be an assistant football coach and head wrestling coach at Knoxville Catholic High School.

Anderson stepped down as football coach of Jefferson County in early January after spending four seasons at the helm. He served as an assistant coach there during the 2004-2006 seasons. He rebuilt a diminished program, and the Patriots made the playoffs in 2007 and 2010. Anderson finished with a 20-22 record.

He coached wrestling the past six seasons. He was an individual Division I state champion, in the 215-pound weight class, in 1998.

On the football side, he said he'll likely be a defensive assistant for coach Scott Meadows and new defensive coordinator Richie Wilhite.

Wilhite was the defensive coordinator at Lenoir City the past two seasons after leaving William Blount, where he once was the head coach and former assistant for Meadows.

The Irish begin spring practice May 4.

"It's going to be a great opportunity at Knoxville Catholic," said Anderson. "Everything's fallen into place. God closes the doors of opportunity, and He also opens them."

Anderson, who'll teach driver's education at Catholic, said he looked into opportunities at Pigeon Forge, Greenback and Knoxville West.

He's looking forward to coaching in District 4-AAA with the likes of Maryville, West, Farragut, Bearden, Heritage, William Blount and Lenoir City.

"It's going to be fun," he said. "Every time you go out, you're going to have to have your A-game. It's just going to be a great challenge, a great opportunity for me to grow as a football coach and to learn from Coach Meadows and his staff.

"What better way to (become a better football coach) by coaching in one of the toughest districts in the state."
