Christian Brothers coach Chris Lewis described Friday’s match of defending state champions as “iron sharpens iron.â€

The visiting Purple Wave from Memphis used a decision (Kaleb Baker 152) and a fall (Luke Parrish 160) in the final two matches to secure a 34-27 victory against Soddy Daisy, won the D-I state duals and traditional crowns a year ago.

“It’s two excellent teams facing each other and it provides us with a tough match on the eve of the Cleveland Duals.â€

After losing the opening match (at 170) by decision, Christian Brothers (3-0) then claimed the next four weights - two via fall (Michael Edwards, 195 and Phillip Nichols, 285) – for an 18-3 advantage.

The Trojans (6-1) then rallied to win five of the next seven matches for a 27-25 lead before the defending D-II state duals champs took the final two matches and the win.

“Both teams have a couple of starters out, but I thought our guys fought hard and came back after being down early so that is encouraging,†said Soddy Daisy coach Jim Higgins.
