  1. Everyone can believe what they want to believe. Just hard to not favor a repeat appearance State Championship team that is 7-1 and competed against a D2(recruited) school. As the way it looks right now it wont can't be Powell and CCHS in the champ game cause they might be in the same bracket but I think that will be the state championship game. Whoever wins with Columbia against Powell will have great momentum in playing Henry county if it is them at state.

Well, Mr Gridiron I'm from Memphis and don't know anything bout Columbia or Powell. But I know plenty of the likes of Henry County. Momentum not gonna do it against them. And from what we hear down this way is that they line is much better than in years past. Sounds like you are underestimate them, just like melrose did back in the days they were tops. One of my teams ridgeway is gonna get they taste soon enough. If you can't play Baylor any better than you did, you be in for a long night. They won't give you 5 or 7 turnovers. But good luck. Got finish the rest of season first!

  2. I'm a firm believer in our coaching staff. Not only are they very capable of preparing the team for each opponent they face, but they do things that are much more valuable. They teach these players how to become men. Things like responsiblity, good citizenship, achieving a work ethic, etc. Those are the lessons that will help these young men throughout their adult lives. Back to football, I'm not sure what alignment will be employed. But I think it's safe to say both teams plan on doing what has brought them to this point. I mean, both teams are 12-0, so they must be doing something right. I think it's going to be "this is what we do, this is who we are, try to stop us" appraoch by both teams.

Well, I think this is the game i going to. My team (Ridgeway) was on the ropes this year. But all in all I just a big memphis football fan. Thought about going up to paris to see Melrose play, but Millington is much closer and should be just as good of a game if not better. Will be pulling for the spartans. good luck to both teams!

  3. I'm back to say "That's MY Opinion & I'm Sticking To It". I've read so many post saying that the Patriots were nobody without this great #1 & seen his pic plastered on every preview book so if you're gonna build him up & put him on a pedestal for the whole world to see then he's there for the good & bad!

My Son Has Never Played A Perfect Game & I HAVE NEVER PUT HIM ON A PASTEL & HAVE NEVER WANTED HIM ON ONE!

He's missed blocks & didn't cover someone the way he should have. He was also out 2 games from his grade 3 cuncussion. I don't care what the rest of you think of my last post "freedom of speech" just like you have used your's. Every body has pointed there finger at this player since day one so why can't I point mine also, is it because it doesn't point the same way as the rest of you? Sorry ppl I posted my opinion, but have been told TO MY FACE BY OTHERS & EVEN TEAMMATES worse things about our GREAT #1 than what I posted. This is the real world & not Barney everybody doesn't love you. And I'll beat ya to the punch....I don't give a rats behind if y'all like me or not. Has anyone even noticed that Dustin Patton hasn't been playing for the last couple of games? Why of course not, all you see is #1 to snot with the rest of those guys. Everybody has treated the rest of the guys on this team like they are #1's servants & when it comes to a win it's only because of #1.

WRONGGGGGGGGGGGG! Calvin broke records & done some great things yes, but he isn't GOD ppl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But y'all sure have try to treat him that way & you could have cared less about ALL the other players, which there were alot of GREAT ONES on this team. #57 was awesome on D & it was a thrill to watch that boy pound ppl!!!!! How many ppl noticed him? What about Ashby, Wilkinson, Travis, Higgs, Primrose, Long, Lamar & all the other guys??????? They were AWESOME & a THRILL & PLEASURE to watch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Daniel Allen TEACHING himself to be a kicker & then being a GREAT one at that, are ya getting my drift?

Calvin is a very well mannered & polite young man, but that hasn't got a thing to do with what is done on that field.

Yes, I did speak to Calvin after the game fyi & he had a very *pretty* smile on his face.

#77 isn't perfect nor will he ever be, but he is still sitting with a BOX of college offers as well as FELLOW TEAM MATES, but no one ever mentioned these guys in the paper about who was looking at them. #1 wouldn't have been so great without THIS O-LINE'S HELP! It took them ALL to win & ALL to lose, but the ball wasn't in THEIR hand was it?

You can yell at me all day & say whatever you want, it will not bother me because I believe & stand behind MY OPINION! Barney days are over & I don't love you & you don't love me, so whatttttttt?

Now feel free to bash me some more & point your finger my way, because football season is over here in Henryland & I don't care who likes me or not, life will go on!

Y'all can baby your favorite player & I'll continue to love the "team" {FYI that's the rest of the guys y'all never saw on the field}.

Lady, that was a pitiful display of sportsmanship. I am from Memphis and seen a lot of "bad sports" when losing, but this takes the cake! I have been keeping up with Henry County since the first game when yall played Ridgeway, the team I support. I dont remember reading where people were worshiping #1, but maybe you saw it. After reading your first post, I thought it was sad that you (supposedly an adult) pointed out a kids mistakes. But now reading this piece of work, you need some help. I am sure that most Henry County fans are not like you, and its a good thing. Otherwise people would not want to set foot in such a pathetic place! Shame on you Mom!

  4. Sleuthy,

I will admit that Melrose isn't them the team that they have been in the past. But I'm sorry, I just was not impressed with H.C. over all. Winning the game is one thing.. Matter-of-Fact, had H.C. dominated us from start to finish, I would be the first to give them their props. That was not the case, They capitalize on our mistakes (as good teams do) Yall say we capitalized on yalls mistakes in the first half and we did. Which brings me back to my earlier post. The team that makes the least amount of mistakes normally wins the game. H.C. did not dominate East by no means. The score doesn't tell the real story either.

The props that I will give you is that you won the GAME.

    T.C.

    Good Luck to both teams.

    TC,

I think you misunderstand me. I am not HC or rooting for them. I am an old hand from Memphis who loves football. Ridgeway my team. All I have to go by is what is written on these boards, stats and scores. I was pulling for East and will be pulling for Melrose this week. I want to see as many Memphis area teams in the bowl as possible! Before the game last week, I didn't think that East would be able to pull one out against Henry. They are a tough discipline team. East is young and trying to get it together with a first year coach and a rough start. Sounds like you gave them a run for their money. In my opinion, I just don't think that East was as good as Henry. Next year may be different, I think East will be a power in Memphis next year.

  5. I said nothing about the Patriots making mistakes although they did. I did say your passing game was suspect & it is. East made mistakes and yall took advantage like you should have. The better team did not win the game. However as the saying goes to team who make least amount of mistakes will more-than-likely win the game. And that is what happen.

And you too will enjoy your weeks off after this game. Trust...

    T.C.

Come on TC! I was not even at the game and I know this isn't true. HC was good against Ridgeway in the first game. I am thinking they improved through the year as did East. But remember East is a young team that has its years ahead of them. I've seen Melrose and I think HC has a shot at bringing them down. But they will have to play good, real good.

  6. I agree East is a young talented team with a bright bright future. Everyone is talking about East not being discipline and make many mistakes. They seem to be cutting down on the mistakes, and with that being said H.C. please be ready.

H.C. is going to have to be mistake free as well to win. I can't believe their record is 6-4 and they didn't make any mistakes... come on. That's probably how Munford beat them. I was not at the game but I'm sure they made some mistakes. However, I did attend the H.C. vs Ridgeway two years in a row in Henry County. AND I was not impressed at all.

That being Said Let's get ready for a great game. ANd Like EastMustang stated earlier. Respect is coming

    T.C.

    TC,

I am from Memphis area and have seen many of these teams play. I agree with much of what you say. But that comment about NOT being impressed at all with HC is nearly laughable. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see a Memphis team reach the boro from both 5A and 4A. But it won't be East. I can tell you that Ridgeway and probably most of its fan base WAS impressed with Henry County. Hard for me to believe that they have a 6-4 record, but they probably did make some key mistakes to lose the other 3 games. To date, they are probably the single most physical team the Ridgeway played all year. East could beat them, but it is unlikely if HC is playing well. They have plenty of atheletes to match what East will bring.

I am unimpressed with Melrose this year and impressed with Munford and Fairley this year. I think that either HC or Fairley will come out of these two regions for the quarters.

  7. If Ridgeway defense can keep playing like it has, and Crawford can churn up some yardage, they will be tough to beat. We have not scored as much since QB went down, but we have been able to make it work. Again, the defense is key. Not to look to far ahead, but we should be meeting someone like Franklin or Dickson County in the near future...

  8. Well, I guess it time for me to put in a few comments from the Memphis area. I am still waiting for TraderB to comment! I just like that there is talk about Memphis football from more than just one or two teams. But here how I see it.

East football is improved from the beginning of the year, but not a serious contender due to many mistakes in most games. TC, I know you want them to pull it out, and they will play hard, but not happening this year. Melrose is kind of lackluster except for their strong defense. They are beatable, I just wish Ridgeway had a shot at them this year! Fairley is MUCH improved over last year. Maybe even better than Melrose, so whoever gets them should be prepared for some game. The pharohs are not good, they have some talent but can't put a game together.

From 7-4A, Munford is a sleeper team. Can't let them hang around or they beat you. Solid team. Henry County is one of the best teams in West Tennessee are underrated due to its unimpressive record. When playing on all cylinders, I think they can beat any team out of West Tennessee. The question is can they play on all cylinders through the playoffs. Brighton is a solid team but not enough so to make a rumble. JCM is very talented yet not solid team. If I has to make a call to the final two teams coming out of these two regions, I would probably say that Henry County will play Fairley to go to the quarter finals.

  9. Prophet,

No, I have not seen HC play. I have seen both Ridgeway and Melrose play, beyond the Jamboree. My unbiased observation indicates that Melrose has a slightly better team, overall. It pains me, somewhat, to admit that--because my loyalties actually lie with Ridegeway!

Have you seen Melrose play this year, ..... That's why they play the game, though. On that, we do agree.

TraderB, I am new to posting on this site but have been a reader for years and am from the Memphis area. Do you really think that Ridgeway can't compete with Melrose?!?!? I disagree. Possibly since the QB is out, the advantage would be to Melrose. But aside from that, Ridgeway has the discipline to beat Melrose this year IMO. A full game would likely go in favor of the Roadrunners.

And as for HC, Melrose better look out and not think of them as "no problem." I seen them and they are for real. I would not want to see Ridgeway play them again! They have more weapons than first meets the eye.

If Melrose will get there heads out of their tails then they should beat Fairley by 30 as their record is over inflated. Anyway, that's how I see it. I Enjoy reading your posts throughout the Memphis region. Thanks!

  10. Anybody got some stats on McNairl? yards, etc. Is he in the running for mr. Football? I haven't heard anything lately.

There were some stats on the site today about McNairl from the Jackson Sun. Here they are:

Player of the Year: Calvin McNairl, Henry County, Sr. - Accounted for 1,278 yards and 12 touchdowns. Passed for 714 yards and eight touchdowns and rushed for 564 yards and four touchdowns.

Looks like this kid is going places! Seen Munford play recently and HC early in the season. HC should take this one by 3 scores.
