  1. [". another wild card is white co. i think white co could finish as high as 3rd or 4th, but getting used to the new coach may take some time. the real key for them will be is can gribble step up and become the leader of this team. white co has some great talent coming and this could be the year where they re-establish themselves as a top team in district 7" For those of you who are keeping up with White co. John Tyler Gribble got kicked off the team a few weeks ago. The new coach wouldn't put up with his attitude no matter how good a player he was. Also, hats off to the White Co. players, it is amazing what some of the same guys can do with the right coach. I only wish that one or two of last years players could have had Coach Mithchell. Maybe one of them would be playing basketball instead of football. Keep up the good work and maybe White Co. won't be on the bottom of the list like predicted........
  2. What else could they do? Camps in 2 wks and no one to take the girls. Also heard Hannah Hacker is coming back now that Hess is no longer there. Any comments?
  3. I am so glad that you girls appreciate him. He was great in football, the guys really like him. I am happy to know that he has carried that into another sport. Go girls
  4. Excuse Me!!!!!!!! I am so tired of having the blame placed on parents who didn't like Slatten and boys that could not play. I know personally that after the first wave of boys left when Slatten came that the most of the parents tried very hard to be supportive of the new coach until things go so out of control that they just got tired of defending the man all the time. I really believe the school system made a bad call when they let Bibb go, but if the boys had been so opposed to Slatten they could have walked off and quit and according to a few people around here, no one would have missed them because NO ONE COULD PLAY. THERE WAS NO TALENT THERE!!! I know that maybe we didn't have 5 outstanding players but there was a couple of really good players on that team and I for one appreciated the fact that they stayed through thick and thin and played when they got so little recognition from some people in this town. These boys have been told that Whited quit because he saw no talent coming up. I spoke with him personally and he told me that maybe there wasn't state championship material in every boy but he thought there was some real talent on that team. SO DON"T GO THERE!!!! Last of all, if you didn't have a young man that played on this team don't talk about what you don't know. Coach Slatten said in his interview in the paper that there was real talent coming up and there may be but don't place all the losses of the last 3 seasons on these young men. I heard that one player on the team played AAU and helped take his team to the YBOA national championship. So there was talent, so shall we just drop the no talent, poor parent thing and hope that whoever they get to replace Slatten will start off on a better foot that he did with the players and their parents. He was a caring coach for some of his players and he spent a lot of time in the gym getting prepared but he just couldn't send that back to his players. Let's hope the next coach can have better luck.
  5. It is my understanding that Daniel Johnson quit Monday. He had just had enough and I think his parents were fully in favor of it.

    walk on

Could someone please clarify something for me. When you walk onto a college football team are you automatically red shirted? Do you only get to dress out for practice? Do you actually get to see game time during your first year if you walk on? Thanks
  7. For those of you who post on this topic, if you are not a White Countian and do not know of a young man who is playing under this coach, then please do not even act like you know what you are talking about. To Warriormom, yes the heart is out of some of these young men. They did not quit simply because when the others quit 2 years ago, there was so much name calling about being a quitter and not staying in there that these young men have toughed it out. I agree, they should get a standing ovation for just hanging in there. My daughter is close friends with some of these boys and she told me the other day that one of the best players on the team is not even considering playing basketball in college because of the heart ache he has gone through during these three years. Don't even begin to get on here and tell me that they are whiners and that there is no talent and all the other stuff that has been said on here. These boys, I am sure, get so tired of reading all this garbage about them. They are all exceptional young men who play because they are trying their best to make White County proud of them, even through it all. Maybe our talent is down, I personally don't agree, but these young men have heart and I think that was apparent with the game in Oakland. The coach finally left the starting 5 (which I feel was a winning combination that should have been tried long before now), in long enough to get a rhythmn going. He didn't even substitute for 6 whole minutes. These boys do have talent but I am not sure that it will ever be appreciated by this coaching staff and for most of them it will be too late for any other coach to see them.
  8. Don't most teams get better as the year goes along, well, not White County. I was listening on the radio and they were within 4 points of catching up to Seigal Friday night, England had scored 10 unanswered points and all five seniors were in and playing well, defense and offense, when guess what!!!!!! Someone decides that they may be getting too close and takes 3 of the seniors out. The coach puts in 2 players that have not seen any quality time on the floor and can you believe it, Seigal pulls way ahead. Now isn't that amazing!!! I can't understand, everyone on here says White County has a good coach but I cannot see for the life of me where this person is. All I see and hear is mistakes in substitution and not starting the right 5, not letting the right players play, etc. I heard one parent, of a senior, say this week that they couldn't wait until this season was over, that it had been a long 3 years. Oh and by the way, heard that the coach got another technical, what happened again!!!!
  9. I think if you will watch closely, Gribble still plays with some immaturity. He is good and probably will be great, but he still needs some floor experience before playing against teams like the "Buro's". He has a tendency to shoot the ball at all costs, not being a real team player yet. He will learn but he still needs some time. Yes, he scores, but Saturday night 5 of his points came from free throws where he went in and could possibly have put it back out to a guard and had maybe a 3 point shot. He is good!!!! but he is a sophomore, give him some time to gain some experience.
  10. I can't give you numbers but I will try to give you names and approx sizes Seniors Adam Drake 6' guard Seth England 6'4" post Tory Hess 5'11" guard Daniel Johnson 5'8 guard Brandon Will 6'2" post B. A. Young 6' wing/guard Corey Young 6'1 guard Juniors Seth Daniels 5'5" guard Ryan Qualls post 6'6" Dustin Holman 6' 5" post Sophomores Justin Brown John Tyler Gribble Joseph Gwynn Zach Buckner Kyle Hicks Peydon Haston one Freshman Kurt Clark I am pretty sure that I have left some players off, maybe someone else can think of the ones that I can't. Hope this helps a little.
  11. Are you talking about BA Young or Cory Young, they both play and are seniors? About Tuesday nights game against Tullahoma, they had 2 starters out with the "bug" and a couple of others really not feeling well at the game, but played any way. Could have been a different game if all the starters had been there, also it could have been better if the refs were just a little bit more fair about calling it both ways. I very rarely ever complain about refs but when White County crowd stands up as a whole over a missed walking call that was so loud that the radio audience heard it, wow, what a missed call!!! I think though, that these boys are still going to have a rough time of it if they don't start playing like a team, there is a lot of "ME-ITIS" on this team. They just can't seem to pull it together. Contrary to what most have said about White County on Coach T, there is talent on this team but they just can't seem to get the right combination. There is way too much subbing to get warm enough to find the winning members. Just my thoughts
  12. I heard rumors that Seth England will not be back this year. Of course everyone knows that Jarvis Williams will not be playing. So do you think that this will make a big difference in the outcome?

    Oct 31 games

White County and Hickman move do 10/30/03.
  14. Please!!!!!! Yes Shelbyville won, but please don't be fooled by the score, White County held in there well with the score being 23-20 until 4th quarter, when White County failed to score on a 3-1 at goal. When Shelbyville scored, Coach Brown then let the reserves play and the 1st line offense Eagles scored with only a few seconds on the board against the reserves, so yes they won, but White County hung in there until the bitter end. Again, as with all 4 games that WC lost, one conversion, a little bit better blocking, etc and all 4 games could have been in the win column. We may fail to get to the playoffs but my goodness, did anyone in WC even think last year that we would have been close this year. I read threads about Warren County and think that last year White County was in that same ball court but hold your heads up guys, things have definitely looked up this year. WAY TO GO WARRIORS!!!!
  15. I think Lowery, England, Young, & Haston are outstanding players. That is obvious because of the colleges that are looking at these young men. White County is lucky to have all the young men on this team. They work hard and long to make White County proud. I realize that the hardest part of the schedule is coming up and they may lose a 2-3 games in the next few weeks but the season is still a winning season because of the efforts of the 45-50 young men on the field each week. They have not received the recognition that they deserve except in White County but that's okay, White Co. appreciates the effort, just look at the crowds that have been supporting this team. I feel sure that we will see more of some of these outstanding atheletes in the future. They will go on and play ball in college and continue to make White Co. proud. Some of the colleges that are looking at these guys I hear are UT, Vanderbilt, UTC, MTSU, UTM, TTU, EKU, etc. That says something great for White County. How long has it been since colleges have been lining up for our players. GO WHITE COUNTY!!!!!!
