  1. Couldn't have said it better. But, you're wasting your time on these guys. They're not listening to your point. However, I've talked to several Volunteer fans that agree with you. Even though they enjoyed the win, they wanted to see an even game. They agree that its just not as satifying to beat a team with no opportunity to give you a challenge - even if it is a big rival. As I said before, "congrats Volunteer". You're having a good year and we'd like to see a Hawkins Co. team go far in the playoffs. Our beef is not with you - its with the striped team that went astray. But, its over and done. Time to move on.
  2. Thanks statman. That's how I saw it. I'm a Cherokee fan so I couldn't say it without sounding like a whiner. Take nothing away from Volunteer. They played well and deserved to win that night. But, the Chiefs players said the refs were also on them for nit-picky things that we didn't see flags for (e.g. pants too short). C'mon, with a big game on the line, was this and the "touch fouls" they called necessary to keep the game in-check? Cherokee shot themselves in the foot enough to lose it on their own. The refs just erased any possibility to overcome mistakes. The Chiefs stayed with Mo. West, losing because only 3 big plays. At Volunteer, the refs wrongly erased at least that number of big ones for Cherokee that could have made it closer and much more fun to watch. As it turned out, the boys in red were robbed of any chance and it really stole a satisfying victory from the Eagles. I mean, a win is always good, but its much sweeter if you win it outright, on your own. One more thing - did anyone else count 5 downs on Volunteer's missed field goal series?
  3. There's always a chance. That's why they play the game. Go Chiefs!! NEVER give up.
  4. Anbody have an injury report on both teams? I know last week that Cherokee had one of the their best (they have several) running backs out - Carter. Also, that tall receiver (#88 I think) was out. Both had shoulder injuries. Are they back in action? I don't think its critical that they are back for Crockett. The team looked good against Greenville even without them. For their sake and for future games, I hope they are well. How about Crockett?
  5. All I remember is that the fastest "lineman" was was a kid that played defensive back during the game - from Boone, I think. Maybe he played TE too, but I didn't see him there. He was the size of a DB, not a lineman. Anyway, I digress. Maybe somebody will fill us in on the very athletic looking guy from Crockett.
  6. From the pre-season Jamboree, I remember a guy (maybe #49) that looked like a college athlete. He was a real man. I didn't see him play though. Hopefully, looks are deceiving.
  7. Good for you Barb. I agree with you - even if you did pick against the "rustic youths" from Big Red Valley.
  8. I expect the Chiefs "D" to work overtime this week and be ready to redeem themselves after last Friday. They're the kind to get fired up instead of lay down after a loss. They have been very punishing to offenses without the speed of a Science Hill. If Cherokee's offense can put together another game of "you know its coming up the gut, but you can't stop me" plus a good passing attack that we've seen in flashes, they can beat any team in the conference. I've read several negative comments about our kicking game. Its true that placekicking in games has been "spotty", but I'm told by several that he kicks long and accurately in practice. Its only a matter of time 'til that young man works out the jitters and performs like his teammates know he can. Hopefully, this will be his game. But, speaking of the kicking game, no one has talked about the weapon the Chiefs have at punter. He's consistently good, but wow, the last punt as Science Hill was for about 70 yds. He's a great all-around athlete, but I think his best contribution is on 4th down. I know nothing about Greenville except what I've heard about the young, but talented QB. The R'ville bunch has a pretty darn good QB too. I'll take him in a fight. I do know the Chiefs are hungry to get back in the "W" column, so I'm going with them, 35 - 14. Go Chiefs!
  9. Hats off (pun intended) to the Toppers. Who'd have thought it would be line play instead of speed that was the determining factor? Not that SH wasn't fast, I just thought the Chiefs weren't able to match up with either their d-line or o-line. From a Chief perspective, the officiating stunk! Missed 2 obvious pass interference calls and some of our folks thought the Topper line play was even better because of many no-calls for holding. But, better calls wouldn't have made the outcome any different. Just too bad R'ville didn't get every opportunity.
