  1. Ok, with all these fat guys running around Im getting confused. I know who sexyinasinglet is and I thought fatguyinasinglet was an alternative screen name. I hope I wasnt one of the fat youth coaches you were refering to. If you expect me to come running to the rescue you better start calling me husky or big boned.
  2. Ok Bcb, I have been out of the loop for awhile. What does the LIK stand for after BSFBAG? What weight are the boys going? My rather large friend that joined you guys this year has been really impressed with the program so far.
  3. I was kind of wondering the same thing. Too bad 007 cupcake isnt here, he could look it up in his top secret spy decoder book. Im pretty sure I know who our latin friend is. Ill call him and ask him what he meant.
  4. Yes, I have been researching a state of the art brace and would actually just tape it up but since its in the wrist he may have to take break and let it heal. As far as my secret technique goes.... see one time I was in the woods and suddenly out of nowhere came this great big Sasquatch.. Oh, never mind. You already know how that story ends.
  5. I appreciate that. I'll pass it along to Blake. He is pretty depressed with this latest setback. He goes his whole life without an injury and then everything falls apart. I hate to hear that about Hooker. Hopefully he will be better by wrestling. Tell the boys I said hi and tell Madison I didnt mean to rat him out on the flexing for the ladies bit. I just thought it was too funny not to pass along.
  6. I should have known better than to pick a fight with 007. I dont guess the bad news has made it to the big sand box across the ocean yet or you would have already given me the old ,"I told you so speech". First game back from the concussion the little one broke his arm on the first play of the game against the rival blue team. It was pretty bad and they had to put it back into alignment. Dont know how long he will be out but he will definetly miss some wrestling. He has had the worst luck this last year.
  7. The tournament used to rotate but the # of wrestling fans in Chattanooga and the super jop the volunteers do is why it continues to be held in Chattanooga. I understand why everyone wants it in their town but lets face the reality of it. There is no other area in Tennessee that has the fan base Chattanooga does. It would only take one tournament at another location to see the difference. Its much like the spring fling always being held in Mufreesboro, they have the best facilities and great support for that event. Memphis would be the worst possible scenario due to it has the least support in the whole state and would be the farthest possible drive for the majority of the fans.Nashville would be the only other logical location. That being said, I agree that having the tournament during the week is a terrible option. Whomever said cupcake was a girl was right on the money by the way.
  8. How do you promote flexibilty in the hip girdle? Do you think it is also possible that one of the reasons we see more torn hamstrings, ligaments ectt... is because not enough emphasis is placed on flexibility? I agree, too many kids are doing only one thing these days and training only certain muscle groups year round.
  9. Yes, the drastic weight loss has been an ongoing issue for many years. In the last few years on the high school level there have been measures implemented to insure no unsafe weight cuts. wrestling does get a bad rap though when it comes to weight loss. One of the reasons is becasue the participants are weighed so much so its evident when kids are cutting a lot of weight. Here is a fact that nobody takes into consideration though. If a kid cuts 3-5 lbs to make his weight class its looked upon as a bad thing. But if you weighed football players before practice i gurantee you they are losing at least that much every single practice (especially during the summer). The same goes for cross country runners, basketball players ect... All of these kids are losing "water weight" when practicing but its only pointed out about wrestling. That being said, there are numerous people who do lose too much weight and more importantly go about it the wrong way. As far as the youth level wrestling goes the majority of the kids do not cut any weight at all.
  10. Another sport you might want to look into that improves core strength along with explosive power, balance, flexibility, stamina and a work ethic like no other is wrestling. I have been involved in sports my whole life either participating or coaching and there is no other sport that has so many physical benefits as well as teaching youngsters to be competetive. Last August when it was so hot and we started summer football practice the kids were exhausted and whining about the heat except for my wrestlers. My 11 year old looked at the team and said, " you guys wouldnt make it through warm ups in wrestling practice". He wasnt far off of the mark with that comment. You should check into it, I can assure you it will do wonders for all his other sports. Chances are he will fall in love with it. I asked my youth baseball and football teams what their favorite sport is and I got different answer from all them. I asked my wrestling team that question and it was 100% wrestling.
  11. Yes, he was the kid from Baylor. It was a great match by two fine young wrestlers.
  12. Im not going to say his name in case he is still trying to be incognito. I think his son and your son wrestled at the middle school state duals last year at Cleveland. Pretty good match if i remeber correctly.
  13. How about the Commando Colonnade. For those who value their security. Or we could go with The Towers at Tattoo's Tiny Town
  14. Cc, how is the vacation coming along? I see you had time to catch a nice Marlin and tame a little puff of blue wind at the same time. That probably seems like childs play for a man from the great red nation. Im not sure about ole Vasd. It seems as though everyone is fair game and in his crosshairs. I do believe we have a renegade running loose on the reservation. Im sure there are a few feathers being ruffled by the artistic humor. I wouldnt want to be on the receiving end of Matlocks wrath. Even Tatoo or a rock em sock em robot would have their hands full there.
  15. Im not sure what the future holds as far as rules and regulations since there is no more Tvac. Time will tell on this issue. I know some of the hcac teams have expressed an interest in doing something else due to the the short season and restrictve rules. It would nice to have a league with all the serious schools. Im not sure if they could drop out of just wrestling in the hcac or not. They have all the other sports to think about as well. I know Cleveland formed a new league but it is full. Ole glc is indeed on the same extreme training regimen as I. Since I cant cut down on the mellow yello I wont be ble to get down to your weight class. He has agreed to take you on in my place. I believe I am going to challenge the best dressed coach in town to a loser leave town battle. The only stipulation is that he must wear the shell necklace and pink polo in a size smedium. Both of which are legal to grab and he cant use any of that soddy karate they always yell about. In the evenings main event we will have coach flipper who cant turn his head vs his side kick coach Poncherello. If Flipper wins Ponch must buy his entire yers worth of Grecian formula. If Ponch wins Flipper must buy his years worth of hair gel.
  16. Dang big guy you almost me cry. My good buddy CC swears I am going through menopause or something. You hit the nail on the head about coach E. People that werent part of what he had going on would never understand. Remind me each of the next 5-6 years and we will take a picture after each state tournament of the mighty warriors who win the state and send it to coach E. Im making a prediction now that when your Blaike is a junior there will be 4-6 state champions that were Mighty Warriors. Before Soddy built its kids program back into the powerhouse it is today almost every city champ was a mighty warrior except for a few of mine who snuck in there somehow. I cant count the # of conversations I have had with wrestling parents who said their kids wanted to wrestle for Kevin in high school but they were afraid they couldnt get the education that they wanted. That was the perception at least. I'll never forget one of my first years coaching Coach E asked me to help coach the state team at Camp Jordan. I said, "are you sure? I have a tendencey to get carried away and yell and scream" He said that was perfect because when he lost his voice from sreaming I could fill right in and the kids wouldnt miss a beat. The wins are great but I think a true measure would be to look at the relationship coach E has with those kids that grew up wrestling for him. I dont know how many times I have seen kid jump into his arms or hug him after a big win. I know I have seen a few tears of joy in his eyes from time to time when one of his kids accomplishes something not thought possble. I would be willing to bet that those same kids in a few years will hug coach E if he is present after they win the high school state champinship and I bet if you look closey there will still be tears of joy in his eyes. That is the measure of a true coach and mentor. It doesnt matter about anymore about the isues with the refs or any other problems the last year or so. All that matters is what you did for the kids and they will never forget that or you.
  17. Yep, poor mouthing at its finest. You and the grapubator big buds now? Something is up, Grappy is being too friendly. You also have another young man from Harrison besides Chico White who should really prosper with the coaching you guys have. His name is Charles Houston and he was second to Campell Lewis this year. He has only been wrestlinmg two years I think. His dad was a state champ or maybe a runner up in the early 80's I think. You will have to keep Chico Sr away from the concession stand and hospitality rooms though. He eats more than Chattwrestling.
  18. Nah ... Two can play at that game. You are not C ryhmes with twig. I know who you are my friend but it shall remain closely guarded. Now what about the new comer Valdeference? Pretty crafty but I must admit he is starting to scare me a bit with the latest posts. Maybe we can get him and Grappler in a battle. Where is old Grappler anyway? I see they took the thread about future champions off the board. Good idea.. I kept waiting on a phone call from bcb declaring a road trip to k-town. CC, be safe my friend. Ill keep them straight while you are away.
  19. what did I do to deserve such treatment ? I havent picked on anyone except cc and that was a joke. Stop picking on the fat kid or I will take my ball and go home. Besides everyone knows that picture is either a local daddy with the initials BH. He has three sons wrestling at three different schools. Or it could be his buffett busting buddy with several wrestlers of his own. His name starts with a c and rhymes with twig.
  20. I am glad Maj started this topic. I have been meaning to do so myself. I just wanted to take a minute to thank Kevin for the passion and tireless effort he has put into youth wrestling in Chattanooga. Anyone who has ever had the joy of wrestling for Kevins Mighty Warriors knows that he gave his heart and soul to his wrestlers. Not only did he go the extra mile for his kids but he also had an open door policy for any kids simply wanting to get better. He has a true knack for making the kids have fun even when he is pushing them to the limits. Not only drilling the fundamentals and basics but also adding some funk and specialty type moves to keep things interesting and not so monotonous.Blake still uses the bear trap series, ventriliqist, Kelley and other moves that most youth coaches dont teach.Thank you Kevin for always making my own feel welcome in your room even when we were on opposing teams. As Maj already stated if all of kevins wrestlers were on one team it would be lights out for the opponents. I am going to list some kids who have came through Kevins doors at some point and benefited from his open door policy. You will be hearing a lot of these kids in the upcoming years. I dont think their parents would mind as Im sure they feel as grateful as I do. Blaike Henry, Jonathon Taylor, Brock Pressley, Micah Pressley, James Westbrooks, Tim Westbrooks, Tee & Jack Boone, Campbell Lewis, Zach Watson, Jamal Lackey, Addison Cornell, Madison Martin, P.j Harris, and many more. I can assure you there will be many state championships won from this group of kids and you played and important role in that Kevin. Thank you
  21. I am going on a strict diet and exercise program. Besides I will be retiring from the coaching ranks and concentrating on getting in shape. I hope to dabble in a little Mma just strictly for fun and exercise. See.. I have this friend who continually runs his mouth and is in dire need of an attitude adjustment. Now when I dispose of him it will be in a stricly theraputic manner. I am only looking out for his best interests. He is in dire need of an attitude adjustment and also I am afraid he and Grappler may cross paths in the future and I want my friend to be pre-pared to back up his mouth.
  22. If you figure it out let me know. cc and I are dying to know. Did you see cc/Tattoo's green beret hat? That was pretty good.
  23. That is so funny!!! I have been accused of being vas but I promise I am not. I was coaching baseball today from 9-4. CC thinks its me because my character looks tough and his character is Tatoo from fantasy Island. I told him thats pretty realistic. Vas, please send me an email at msutherland16@aol I am dying to know your true identity. I cant wait to see graps reply when he see's it.
