  1. #1. Is it sad that this was the first place I came to when I heard this news?

#2. Unbelievable moment for the team, the students, the parents, and the Northern Franklin community. Brian Rector has these guys headed in a fantastic direction. It's been more than 5 years since I've walked through the halls, but I can honestly say I've never been more proud to be a Centennial Cougar.

    C-C-CHS!!!

  2. Obviously, I've been out of the HS loop for some time now. But my sisters just got back from the Centennial at Lawrence County game. And they described a stretch of the game that...if true...is pretty disgusting. And I'm wondering if anybody on here was at the game to witness what happened.

This is what I WAS TOLD...

From what I heard, both teams were very chippy (some would say cheap) at the start. Well at some point, CHS's TJ Leach was carrying with the ball, when a Lawrence county defender grabbed him by the facemask, pulled his head all the way back, and then slammed onto TJ's back. Apparently TJ was badly hurt, and an ambulance was called onto the field.

Well apparently next, TJ's dad ran onto the field to check on his son. But before he could get to his son, the police ran after him, tackled him, and escorted him out of the stadium...WHILE HIS SON WAS LAYING ON THE GROUND SERIOUSLY INJURED. The CHS Coaches protested, but were apparently threatened with ejection as well. Well naturally, this didn't sit well with the fans, and they protested as well. Well all of Centennial's fans were then asked to leave the game...all while their friend, their teammate, their classmate...lay seriously injured on the field.

That was the version I got. Can anyone shed light on this? If this is true...that police force needs to be put under investigation. That just makes me sick.

  3. Now let me explain the reference between Detroit and Indy. I wasn't comparing records or quarterbacks. I was just stating that Detroit fans cannot be very optimistic with what the Lions are returning since it's pretty much the core players from last year. Indy is in the same boat. They are bringing back pretty much the same group. They are struggling. I know you can't look much into a 7 on 7, but Indy has not impressed anyone. I hope we look better in pads than we have in these 7 on 7 passing scrimmages.

Just clearing a few things up. First as a Lions fan, I can say with absolute confidence that the majority of last year's core (if you can even call it a core, since injuries shuffled the roster every two weeks) is gone. Really, The only returning players that had consistent playing time last year are Calvin Johnson, Ernie Sims, and Dominic Raiola, along with Hanson and Harris on special teams. Other than that, the team was rebuilt from top to bottom this offseason. Nobody on our end is expecting instant results this season, but I can assure you that the majority of Lions fans are actually excited about the direction we've been headed over the course of this offseason. We had a great draft, and alot of the guys we've brought in through trades or free agency should fill some much needed holes. Like I said, there's still alot of work to be done, but don't be surprised if our luck changes down the road.

Now back to the high school level. Last year, Indy lost about 70% of their key guys from a state runner up team. As a result, you were looking at a very young, inexperienced team, with several starters that had seldom played a snap of varsity football. There are very few players who can step in as a freshman or sophomore and immediately master the system, speed, and skill of HS varsity football. However, once these players get games under their belt, they start to get a feel for the game, and you start to see improvement. (Ask any Centennial fan about Chaz Scales in 2005 vs. 2008) Indy has a solid young team with alot of potential, and they will head into this season with alot improvement and alot more experience. Having most of the core returning, the players already know the system and what to expect on the field. Instead of adjusting the experience as a whole, the players can focus on improving the finer points of their game.

  4. Word on the street is that the infamous Coach Rector has left the Ravenwood Raptors football program high and dry in search of greener pastures as a "graduate assistant" at WKU. This happens on the eve of a season where Rector's Raptors were going to be the odds-on favorite in middle Tennessee. Coach Rector breaks ties a prominent powerhouse to go become a "GA" at a local lower tier college program?

I am not sure about everybody else, but this sounds funny to me. I am pretty sure that there are a few pieces missing to this puzzle. Does anyone have any more information about this sudden happening?

Also...Who steps up and fills Coach Rector's shoes? Who is willing to brave the mine-field that is RHS Athletics?

From someone inside a college program, this is a good move for Rector. Yes, the GA spot doesn't always seem like a glamorous job, but for anyone who is serious about coaching at the collegiate level, this is a great start. He'll get a good feel for the D1 level while working under and learning from a great coaching staff at WKU, and will also have a few Ravenwood alums playing for him there.

As we've seen at RHS, Rector is a bright young coach with an excellent feel for the game. I can tell that this is the start of a great future for Brian Rector

  5. I told everyone Franklin is overrated, this team is about to fizzle. They don't have the mental toughness to compete with the hardnose teams in the district. Wait till the Eagles make the trip over to Franklin and beat you like Brentwood did. No one is scared of you anymore, they see you are soft. Your fan section is pathetic as well. At least teams like Ravenwood support their school, I guess you guys are too busy with all the out of school activity Franklin is famous for.

Let me get this straight, Franklin loses one district game, their first regular season district loss in close to 4 years, and all of a sudden they become a team about to collapse? Give me a break. When I look at this, all I see is one loss, against a solid Brentwood team, in the middle of a season. Yes, considering the district dominance of FHS over the past few years this loss does send a bit of a shockwave through the District. But bottom line, its only one loss.

What has impressed me most about this FHS program over the years is their ability to win games by several different means. They can beat you with sheer power down low, athleticism with drives to the basket and strong cuts, or lights out shooting. They've always brought so much depth and so many different style players that its nearly impossible for teams to match up with them for a full 32. Every year, we hear about Franklin losing key guys or being weaker than the year before. And yet, they still manage to come out and be the class of the District year after year. And maybe its just me, but I dont see that trend ending anytime soon.

As for the rest of District, theres still alot of basketball left to be played. There seems to be alot of inconsistent play from alot of teams this year, so whoever gets a good run at the end of the year could be looking at a good chance at the title.

Last but not least: Go Cougars! From the sounds of things its been rough so far, but like I said, still alot of time.

  6. I'll second donathan's point: not since that 05 RHS team has 6-5A seen a team this complete. Im actually reminded of the 2002 Brentwood team that won state. I don't know much about White Station, can anyone out west give us a little more insight? What type of offense, strength of defense, strengths and weaknesses, etc.

  7. This is always one of my favorite matchups to watch during the year. Mainly because these two always seem to be too evenly matched to preduct an outcome. Basically, anything and everything can happen when these two get together. Overall, it would again appear that these two are evenly matched headed in. I think FHS has a slightly more explosive offense, and Brentwood has a slightly better defense, but both are great on both sides of the ball.

Its games that are this evenly matched in which the little things are really magnified. Finishing blocks, effective tackling, limiting penalties, etc. In games like these, we often see the turnover margin have a huge effect on the outcome. Sometimes its that one extra drive off a fumble or interception that can really turn the direction of the game (as we saw in this game earlier this year). I don't think this game will be any different. The winner of this game will be the team that executes the little things better, and who makes the fewest mistakes.

  8. So its okay to say gordan will be going to a small time but when we questioned yazzie going to a D1 school and giggled when u said mizzou and U T were looking we are the guilty. You must be a democrat.

To say gordan will go to a small time school and ur kid to a ut or mizzu is comical.

Gordan as other poster pointed out ut louisville texas tech bama all on record chasing him, where on record is year boy

Look come national signing day come back and let's see where ur kid goes (I predict campbelsville or union ) ans where gordan goes since you already stated gordan to small school.

Class yeah we have it you just don't know what is is

I hear Ut intramural team looking for a wideout

Just out of curiosity, how does that make him a democrat?

  9. Congratulations to the Brentwood Bruins on a tough, hard-fought win. Once again, key mistakes killed the Cougars chances in this one. It sounds like they had a few chances to build some huge momentum, but once again, they let those chances slip right by them. This will be another game that CHS looks back upon and wonders "what if?"

Overall, its been a great season for the Centennial Cougars. After going 0-2, many thought this would be another typical CHS season. But they regrouped, rattled off a record 7 straight wins, and made this one of the best seasons in school history. Although its over, CHS has alot to look forward to, and overall, they've proven to everyone else that they can compete in this region.

  10. Pride and Heritage? Does anyone read?

"African-American" is a salute to heritage because they take pride in it. Southerners still celebrate their heritage of the confederacy (not slavery btw, except for some ignorant rednecks). I was largely being facetious by saying refer to me as Scottish-Irish-German-French-Native American.

Political correctness is largely a cancer to our society though. Btw, "Yankee" is a term that northerners celebrate i.e. New York Yankees....so why shouldn't southerners be allowed to refer to northerners as yankees...unless you want explain how it's okay for black folks to call each other the "N word", but are supposed to take offense if a white man directs it towards them. Double standards all around....so we can all puke our guts up in disgust one day!

I believe that was one of the terms of Lee's surrender

  11. Really? REALLY? Give me a flippin' break! Here's a project for you "sportsguy"...why don't you go to every thread on here that in any way involves Brentwood and see how many "cocky" Brentwood fans you can find. Here's a hint...you won't find many. If anything, Brentwood has kept it's head down and played football this season. In fact, there are posters from other WilCo schools that are bothered by the lack of participation on the boards by Brentwood fans. You want cocky? Try Franklin or Centennial. Seriously.

CHS 2007 - normally you seem to have a good grasp of what is going on. Not this time. Here's some change for the clue bus...your defense had NOTHING to do with Brentwood having "17 whopping passing yards in week 0". In case you missed the memo, the Bruins aren't a passing team! We completed 0 passes against Antioch and their defense is just a hair better than the Brentwood Blaze, ok?

Bruins - No matter who shows up to play for CHS tomorrow night, you hold your destiny in your own hands. Put your heads down, go to work, and get the job done!

    Go Bruins!!!

I was referring to the "Centennial can't stop the pass" comment, as the poster somehow made it sound like BHS tore us up through the air in Week 0. And actually when you look at the stats, CHS has statistically done well in the pass defense department this season.

  12. Looks like Centennial is going to have to wait yet another year for a run in the playoffs, and a victory over Brentwood and Franklin. IMO Centennial has one of the the worst defenses in Region 6, alongside Dickson County and Clarksville. They can't stop the run, and they sure as heck can't stop the pass. Offensively, the Brentwood defense will shut down Chaz, just like Franklin did, by pressuring him into making bad decisions on the run. Brentwood blows the ole Cougars out of the water...

    Brilliant Bruins- 42

    Cocky Cougars- 3

As evidenced by Brentwood's whopping 17 passing yards in Week 0

And ambiguous, Im guessing you spent a good amount of time on photobucket yesterday? /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

  13. For the record, I HIGHLY doubt any of these CHS Offensive Scheme Change rumors going around. Do you really think that Coach Mat would abandon the scheme that brought him 8 wins in the middle of the playoffs? Do you really think right before the team's second round playoff game that he will make his team memorize and perfect an entirely new set of formations, plays, and gameplan?

IF Chaz is unable to go Friday, it will likely be T.J. Leach who starts at QB, not Drew Kelly.

  14. That's right- change back to the offense you ran so successfully for years under that game management mastermind Gregory. Better yet, change it during the week of your second round playoff game.

Even Better yet, do it against a team that is adept at stopping the run, and runs a version of it every day in practice.

    Yea, that'll work. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

    Exactly what I was thinking /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
