  1. This will be my last post before tonight's game: First off, let me say that regardless of what happens tonight, I'm proud of the way my Cougars have played this season. Two years ago, many thought this was a dead program. With new schools Ravenwood and Independence on the rise, and teams like Brentwood and Franklin seemingly improving every year, many people thought there was little chance that these guys could ever get into the position they are today. As the season began, with what many believed would be a very talented team, Centennial went down 0-2, including a huge upset against Page, and many believed this to be deja-vu all over again. However, we didn't back down, we didn't throw in the towel, and 7 wins later the Cougars are in the midst of their best season in school history. What these guys have done this year is nothing short of inspirational. And let me just say that I've never been more proud to call myself a CHS Alumni then I am right now. Now onto the game at hand. 0-11, never beaten the "big brother" of Williamson County. There have been close calls, there have been blowouts. And once again, Franklin is coming on believing they can carry on the "tradition" of beating Centennial. Well, I say we start a tradition of our own. Forget the past years and past results, we are living in the present. And today, we have a chance to make a statement for both our present and our future. In what has been a season filled with firsts and milestones, why not cross one more off that to-do list? The gameplan tonight should be no different from the first 9 games. Stay smart, stay focused, and take it one play at a time. Regardless of the opponent, when its all said and done, its just another game in the standings. Like I said, its been a milestone season for the Cougars so far. And looking at the schedule, its not over yet. I don't know about the rest of you Cougar fans, but I feel something in the air that I haven't felt in 12 years......
  2. Here's a good article about Matykiewicz in today's Tennessean. Article
  3. One guy alot of people at CHS are excited about is T.J. Leach. A freshman that has picked up alot of serious playing time at Safety, he will more than likely become the starting QB next season. He has the athletic ability of Chaz, but from what I hear this kid has a rocket for an arm. Many are already talking about what this kid at the QB spot. So even when Chaz leaves, Centennial fans have alot to look forward to in the coming years.
  4. To Clarify, Hillsboro would be 5A alongside Hillwood and Centennial
  5. Definitely 6'7 but nice try. And if you think you're playing the Chaz Scales from the last two years then you're in for a bit of a suprise.
  6. 42, 54, 57, 68, 2002 One...Two...Three....Four....CINCO!!!!! And in case you were wondering, thats half of what your buddies up north have /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />
  7. Okay I will. A 6'7 Drew Kelly will have a huge height advantage over any corner he faces. You think that won't be a difference when Centennial gets close to the endzone? This Franklin defense has not faced anyone near the speed of Chaz Scales, nor has anyone that can match his speed (Jarriel Eaton and Jamaul Starnes are not as fast as Chaz Scales, so don't play that card). If Chaz gets into open space, that will be a factor. In a close game where every yard and every point matters, special teams comes into play. With Austin Bass, CHS has that advantage. All season long, Centennial has made teams pay for turnovers. If FHS has a 4th quarter similar to Brentwood, that would be a factor.
  8. 17?!?!?!?! Try 5 there bud We've been having to prove everyone wrong every game this year. I don't mind having to do so one more time this year.
  9. Please, be my guest, you can have the stats on your side. I really could care less. They mean nothing
  10. While you seem to be an intelligent poster, (would you like me to break that sentence down for you?) I assure you If you had read that entire post, you will have realized I made that post to show I can also throw out random stats to make my team look good. Then I countered by saying anyone can throw out random stats but it doesn't matter because games aren't played on paper.
  11. Ravenwood is in the playoffs and beat both Brentwood Academy and Brentwood; so I would consider that a quality win. Siegel has fallen off the last couple weeks, but at the time of the CHS game they had been playing some of the best ball in the midstate. Again, frankly I don't care who we've beaten. We have 7 wins this season and we have by far exceeded expectations. Whatever happens this Friday, its been a season to remember for Centennial, who two years ago was 1-9 and seemed to be going nowhere. I'm proud of the way we've played this season, and no matter what happens I'll be behind this team all the way. "Is there any magic left in this team, in what has been a magical season so far." -Mike Keith, right before the Music City minute. Despite whats happened this year, there's still unfinished business.
  12. Go to google and search "define:sarcasm" and maybe you'll understand where I was going with that.
  13. Also, one of my friends wanted to let everyone at CHS know that we will have a white-out for our section. If you're planning to attend, wear white. So......there you go......
  14. And according to your fans, you weren't supposed to lose to Brentwood......
  15. Centennial has also had two shutouts this year, and has put up 40+ in three of their last four games. So, lets see....... We can keep comparing stats and play this "who allowed what against whom?" game all day long. But when the players step on that field Friday night, there are no stats, there are no win-loss records, there are no win-streaks or loss-streaks. There are simply two teams going head-to-head, and that is the only possible time we can see which team takes the W. These points-allowed comparisions won't determine the outcome of the game. Like I said before, the winner of a game isn't always the team that had the best stats. Its the team that does just enough to have more points than the other team when the clock hits :00. (anyone remember Franklin/Brentwood earlier this year) The Cougars season has been about proving people wrong. We weren't supposed to compete with the top-tier teams this year, we weren't supposed to beat Independence, Siegel, or Ravenwood. Chaz didn't have the QB ability needed to lead this team. A team based on small, quick athletes couldn't stand up to the big power teams. There wasn't enough experience or coaching skill to give CHS that extra drive to win games. We weren't supposed to make the playoffs, much less have a chance to win a region title.... And now we're not supposed to beat the Franklin Rebels........
  16. I'm guessing you didn't read my post earlier. Yes, CHS has given up alot of points this year. But the bottom line is, for the last 7 games, they've allowed fewer points than the other team. Like I said, despite being outgained, despite falling into early holes, the defense still makes the plays when they count, and thats how theyre winning games.
  17. Ive been scanning over this thread, and I've been seeing alot of talk about how Centennial's defense is inferior to Franklin's. On paper, the Rebels do have an edge on defense. In fact, you look at the stats and you wonder how Centennial won 7 straight games: They give up close to 300 yards a game, including 210 a game on the ground. They've allowed 300+ yards in 5 games this year, and have been beaten in total yardage 5 times. So how is this team still winning? Timing How many of you have ever watched a game on TV, and walk away thinking "Man! We should have won that game!" Ask any coach, player, or football expert; games aren't always decided by which team played better, they're decided on which team made the plays that mattered most. A team can dominate all the way through the game, but can end up losing because of a couple late mistakes that the other team took advantage of (Colts/Texans earlier this year). That is how Centennial has been winning games this season. The defense hasn't played solid all the way through games, but they've always seemed to come up big in the plays that mattered most. A late safety and interception against Indy, a goal-line stand forcing a missed field goal against Siegel, a late three-and-out vs. Dickson, two late drive-killing interceptions against Ravenwood. All of these plays have been the difference in games this season. I know our D isn't spectactular, but they've made the plays they've needed to. And in the end, thats how games are decided, and it very well could decide this game.
  18. Gameday. This will be the first time I see the Cougars in action since Northeast, so here's my final thoughts. 1. Establish Momentum Early: Score early and often, and make Columbia have to play from behind (they seem to play their best when the game is close). Break a couple of scores early and make the Lions play from behind. 2. Don't get trapped: The Cougars are on an emotional high coming off their biggest win in years, and next week will possibly be their biggest game in school history. The Cougars cannot look backwards or forwards. They have a tough team directly in front of them that have played them close the past few meetings. Take it one game at a time, and worry about what lies ahead when it gets here.
  19. That's a big loss for CHS. Chip was having a breakout year this year after missing most of his freshman year with an injury. Sad to see his season end like this.
  20. Wait, I recall hearing talk about how Ravenwood was still too powerful and would humble the Cougars. And now that we beat them it wasn't a quality win? Quite frankly, I don't care what people think about CHS this year. The only thing I see when I look at this team is that 6-2, 4-1 record. Again, this season has been about proving people wrong, and thus far, they've been doing just that. Right now, all Im concerned about is Columbia. They're a tough team who've we've played very close in the past few years. When that game's over, then I'll start thinking about the game after that. And cougar31, Im glad you guys have some confidence, but I know Coach Mat would not want you guys coming on here and making posts like that. You worry about the business on the field, we'll handle the trash talk.
  21. I've seen this name before, but my pick is Chaz Scales (QB/DB) from Centennial. He's been the center of the Cougars offense this season, and has become the main figure for the Cougar's 11th ranked offense. 812 yards passing, 728 yards on the ground, but the perhaps the most eye-popping stat is his 21 Touchdowns through 8 games this year (10 pass, 10 rush, 1 INT return). On defense, he's been a shutdown corner (3 INTs) and has kept alot of potent passing games from taking off in games this year.
  22. I think I already corrected you on Chaz's stats on the other thread (76-728 10TDs rushing, 49-84-816 10TDs 5INTs passing) Raymond Jackson has 75 carries for 417 yards and 5 TDs this year. While Tony Kemp has 74 carries for 618 yards and 5TDs. Kemp also has 11 receptions for 234 yards and 3 TDs this year.
  23. There's alot of different theories and proposals out there. The most common one I've heard was the basketball classification or something close to that. There would be a metro division, but it would be teams like Antioch, McGavock, Hunters Lane, etc.
