  1. YOU MEAN COACH MARK (THUG DADDY) PEMBERTON, WAY TO GO LETTING PEOPLE WHO DO UNCOMMON THINGS TO THEIR 1ST COUSIN PLAY FOR YOU, YOUR A CLASS ACT! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

    THEMYSTRY.

As I recall, the most recent "uncommon thing" Hood did was take a screen pass 65 yds against AC after stiff arming one defender, and then pulling away from two others @ 265 lbs. BTW, was the stiff arm against the MLB?

    ruse?

  2. ruse?,

Jason Surlas is the AD. Well here is what I think, the AD and the head coach are not on the same page. And the boosters at KC are out of control and from what I am getting has gone past supporting the team. IMO, Oak Ridge would have been to hard to steer away from.

    Thanks HappyHour22.

lostdog directed me above. Did not know he was the AD. I thought he was one of those on the caousel you mentioned. I thought he was a coach and that he or his brother was the defensive coordinator over there. I guess if Pemberton fired the AD as a coach that would lead to "not being on the same page." Haha. IMO, the defense was really good, and young this past year. Years prior, not so much. Seemed like my Falcons, AE would always have a 2nd half wrinkle in the playoffs that would make the bagpipes wail in agony.

I've lived the Booster thing. "When boosters are out of control and gone past supporting the team"....the kids suffer, then the team, the school, the gate, enrollment, all of it. That is really too bad. You know I'm no huge fan of the Irish, but I do respect the program Pemberton built, and was looking forward to seeing them play a 6A schedule. Jumping from 3A to schools like Maryville, BillyB, Bearden, Farragut will be much tougher than the DII to 3A jump IMO.

  3. ruse?,

Yea with the new Rings, the new weight facility, playing the even bigger boys, and fresh young talent visiting everyday /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> seems like paradise to me too.....but in reality the past couple seasons have been a coaching carousel. IMO, I believe there are just too much "politicing". Or too many people that have opionions (that actually matter) whether it is from the booster club down to the administration. A little animosity between some parties. Pemberton has done an incredible job with coaches coming in and out, and I don't think that will change. No need to go sniffing ruse?.

    HappHour22.

I was thinking that perhaps Pemberton was the one pulling the trigger on the assistants in an effort to uprgade. Not the case eh? No sniffing around, but some birdies are chirping the same notes..ie. "Booster club on down to the administration" & "last couple of seasons have been a coaching carousel." Boosters calling the shots is never, ever a good thing. "Johnny didn't play, Coach XYZ is holding my son accountable..er, I mean being too hard on him.", and so on. Who is the AD there?

    ruse?

  4. ruse?,

    No comment on this one...

    HappyHour22.

Fresh off a championship, all the new stuff at your weight facility, playing a 6A schedule, etc., and then coaches being fired while Pemberton sniffs hard at the OR job? If there was ever a time for continuity, would that time not be now? Seems like there is some chaos in paradise; well, at least some discontent. Too bad the Falcon's don't get a crack at them next year. Anyway, I'll do some sniffing. BTW, you don't have to "no comment"." It's not like you'll wind up in pergatory:)

  5. Pemberton has had pretty good stability over the last 15-20 yrs.

    ruse?

what does that even mean ? he's only been there since 2002 before that he was in GA

    nakedhogan.

"Pemberton has had pretty good stability over the last 15-20 yrs" should be interpreted as it reads. Was not sure how long he had been at Catholic; however, seven years and, "only" does seem oxymoronic, IMO. Georgia for a bit according to you, and Rockwood for quite a while prior to that, does not constitute job hopping.

    ruse?

  6. Irish B-Ball, HappyHour22, Irish423, Choakonaloaf.

Shed some light on the "fired assistants" if you can. I did read in the KNS that the DC was leaving, but others as well? I only saw you guys twice this year in person, and once on tv (AC and White House, Mitchell). IMO, the DC did a great job in all three of those games disguising, changing fronts, etc. I just thought that he was moving up and on, as it was my understanding that he is pretty young, and talented. Pemberton has had pretty good stability over the last 15-20 yrs. Why all the changes when you're going to be playing a 6A sched? Seems that if there was ever a time for stability, now would be it. No? Thanks.

    ruse?

  7. Many schools right now have alot of vacancies, any ideas who is going where with spring practice coming up?

SD needs a head coach, KCHS needs a whole new staff other than Pemberton including a D coordinator, Ron Gray is going to leave but where to? Farragut has holes on both sides, as does Oak Ridge and AE

Interesting. So does Gray work under Blade @ OR? Gray was at KCHS last season was he not? Think Farragut has Scott Tate coming back to work the OL. Whoever gets the DC from KCHS gets a good one. Saw them twice last year in person. They made some fantastic "in game" and "1/2 time" adjustments against White House. I did not know it when I was at the Mitchell game, but listening to the announcers on TIVO, they said that Catholic was playing 6 sophomores on defense in the 2nd 1/2. They shut the Malone kid down. Course Gibson might have beaten them if he had not got hurt, but still. Anyway, he'll make someone a good coach.

  8. I WILL CLEARLY SAY THAT I HATE CATHOLIC, AND I DNT CARE IF YOU LIKE IT OR NOT, BUT THEY DO HAVE TALENT ENOUGH TO MAKE A GOOD RUN NEXT YEAR, I DONT SEE THEN GOIN UNBEATEN AGAIN, BUT IV BEEN WRONG BEFORE. I DNT CARE WHAT ESPN SAY ZAK TAIT IS NO 150 PROSPECT, A GOOD LINEMAN YES! A PROSPECT LIKE THAT, NOT NO, BUT HECK NO! I DO KNOW THAT YOU RETURN COZART, A GOOD RB, BUT HE WILL DEF, HAVE TO HANDEL THE LOAD THIS YEAR. SO IRISH FANS HOPE HE DNT GET INJURED LIKE HE HAS IN THIS PAST, WITH THE NAGGING INJURIES, OTHER THAN THAT, YOU GUYS BASICALLY REPLACE ALL YOUR SKILL PLAYERS ON THE OFFENCE SIDE OF THE BALL, ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE BALL, IM NOT REAL SURE, SO I WONT COMMENT ON IT JUST YET, I DO THINK THAT CATHOLIC WILL WIN SOME GAMES THIS YR, BUT I SEE THEM LOSING 1-3 GAMES, BUT LIKE I SAID IV BEEN WRONG BEFORE, BUT I DO LIKE THE NOT SO CALLED RECRUITING AD THATS ON THERE FB WEB SITE "HELP WANTED" THE ONLY THING THAT I REALLY HAVE AGAINST YOU GUYS IS THAT YOU ALL ARE SUPPOSE TO HAVE ALL THESE PLAYERS, THAT D1 TALLENT, AND ONLY THE DANG KICKER HAS SIGNED SO FAR, QUIT PUTTING PLAYERS LIKE VANN,COULTER,HOOD, AND WHO EVER ELSE YOU HAVE OVER THERE OUT THERE WHEN THERE NOT THAT GREAT. THEY ARE GOOD PLAYERS, BUT LIKE I SAID HOW MANY OF THEM HAVE SIGNED YET. BRANUM IS THE ONLY TRUE D1 PROSPECT OVER THERE IN MY OPINION, BUT GOOD LUCK THIS YR, AND HOPE EVERYTHING GOES WELL!

Catholic will do what they do. Control the clock, and play good defense. Big jump to a 6A schedule from the old 3A. Bigger than from D-II to 3A at the last turn. On the other hand playing in 2-3A was probably the best region to prepare for it. I doubt they go unbeaten as well. I'll bet both Branum & Hood still sign D1. Branum can play. He shut down the Malone kid from Mitchell. Hood will sign when all the dust settles somewhere. Just too talented not to. Catholic always has someone step into the wing-back slots. Years ago they had the Sherridans, then McFadden, Harrison Smith, and I did not know they had a kid named Howanitz on the roster until this past year. Those rankings mean squat. Top 150 or 1500, you play on Sat. That being said, Tait will play on Sat. 1st time I saw him, he was a Soph playing at Fulton. There to see the Falcons and Rogan, Hammilton, Freeney, Cobb, etc, stomp a hole in H. Smith. Smith gets loose, and I ask, the guy sitting next to me "who is the big kid downfield ahead of him?" he said "Tait, and you should watch him on defense." He wore Higgins, and Gatewood out. I know this much Coatney hated preparing for him. Guess we'll see though.

  9. Actually, "unapproved" was contrived as a subvert of the original 10/Varsity/Preps which was Extra Terestial Preps, and it wasn't that Coach didn't like it being on here from a free market perspective, but rather that Coach did not have approval to link...hence "unapproved." Put that in the historical FWIW file. Young had a nice year, and it was good to see a couple of other TN kids named to the 2011 team. If you check the Top 100 for 2010, there are also some TN kids listed. James Stone (Maplewood), Ferlando Bohanna (Whitehaven), and Zak Tait (Knoxville Catholic).

  10. LAST NITE @ CLINTON VS AC BB GAME THE NEWSPAPER REPORTER RAY BLANTEY ADDRESS THAT D. Might have been the TCFA (Coaches Team). AP out next week.

    ruse?

  11. That's a little overstated Ruse. Pretty good talent over the past few years for the Irish , a very strong nucleus returning, great feeder programs strong booster base and incredible facilities and are just getting better. He's got a great teaching and coaching setup at Catholic. Base pay is higher at OR but Coach Pemberton is well taken care of.

    Irish, Scott, and Naked:

Overstated ? I think not. Never said Pemberton was scared, just a nice easy district @ OR vs. what Catholic will be up against. All he would have to do is beat Hardin Valley & Karns for a #1 seed in 6A. Money and talent follow wins. It's a pretty nice set-up at OR as well. Anybody who goes 8-2 or better in year 1 there could run/win/be the mayor.

I'm sure Pemberton is well taken care of. Base pay of job would be higher @ OR. Base pay of job + titles would be a lot higher IrishBBall. You've been around. Check Rankin's figures. You know how that works.

As far as talent...yes, lots of it at both. Plenty of the talent available at OR just did not want to play football. The feeders at both are good. Better feeder program at Catholic in terms of structure, better talent at OR IMO.

I'm sure that if he were to go there, he would have them at 8-2, and at least a round #2 appearance in the playoffs in year one. Once that happens, all the AC/Clinton, etc defectors would be back in que ready to go. It's a sleeping giant guys. It'll wake up. Don't get all prickley. I'm just saying, if I were looking, I would go after the guy...and hard. You should go after the best available. Capitalism, not Catholicism. I just hope he stays in the area. GA, and AL have a lot of openings at some big time programs.

    ruse?

  12. 'ruse' I know coach Pemberton... From what I've been told down thru the vine that he has a great set-up at Catholic. If what I have been told is true which I'm sure it is ..I don't see him going anywhere in the HS ranks. Or let's put it this way I would love to be in that situation at Catholic. And I'm sure there would be several others that would as well. But since they won the 3A Championship he might entertain the thought of moving on IDK ??

    Hey Rocking Chair.

I hear you on those points. OR has tons of talent, some of which did, or has not played for a myriad of reasons. Pemberton would get them out there. OR can pay more for sure. Multiple titles along with "HC"...Associate Prince, AD, etc. If I'm Pemberton, I'm looking at Mville, Farragut, Bearden, and Billy B, year in & out for 4, vs. AC, Clinton, Karns, and Hardin V. All I have to do is beat Karns and HV for a #1 seed. By that time I have my old school playbook in, players on board, butts in seats, boosters behind me, and that is just year 1. He'd have that thing turned in 2. Does he not hail from Rockwood. Close to home?

    ruse?

  13. Young? No. Energetic, as in "rah, rah," No. Coach? Yes. If OR does not go hard after Pemberton, and if he doesn't take a hard look, both parties would be nuts. The guy is a program builder. OR needs just that. It's not like taking over at Alcoa as Rankin did. Tougher job @ OR, IMO. Obviously, the guy gets a lot out of his talent, is well respected in the coaching comminity, and knows how to win. I would think OR can pay more than Catholic, the talent would be better, and the district is playoff friendly for the next 4 years. I'd rather see him in the area than get recruited away to some program in GA, or AL, which is what I've heard also.

    ruse?

  14. OR might not be a better team next year, but they should have a better record. The only two teams they will have to beat to lock up a #1 seed are Karns & Hardin Valley (which played a JV only schedule this year). The other 5A teams on the sched. within the district are all beatable, no guarantee, but beatable. 7-3 is likely.

    ruse?

  15. As far as AHAM .. I heard not at all ... I Hope I heard wrong .... its so sad to have wasted that kind of talent ...

    Tadvols.

Well whatever Anotnio is up, I hope that it is in the spirit of some sort of betterment. Great player. 6-2, 295, and could run. I remember when he was just a sophomore, playing LB on the inside at 265. Might have been the best pure DL prospect in the area in the last 15 years. His feet were so quick, and his balance so good, and man he was strong. I guess it would have been his senior year when he lined up at FB for Rogan in the championship game in the 2nd half. Rogan had maybe 180, and I'll bet 140 of it came in the 2nd. The best DL/OL match-ups I've seen around here were between him and the Tait kid when they just absolutely beat the snot out of each other. People all hyped the Rogan/Smith match-ups, which was fine; however, those two got after it. I hope he comes through. Deebo too.

    ruse?

  16. IrishBBall ... its been fun ... I have to say I wont miss that funky offense .. but it did prepare us for David Lipscomb a little bit ... you know when you have alot of speed like Fulton and AE .. the kids have a tendacy to want to chase the football ... when you play KC you have to do two things ... try to get some penetration in the middle and stay at home ... the reason Fulton was able to compete so well in 2005 and 2006 was Antoinio Hamilton .. he was a disruptive force in the middle and got penetration numerous times to blow up plays .. they had some guys who followed coaching well and could makeup for mistakes with speed .... they also dared KC to throw deep and they got caught a couple of times ... KC has a hard offense to defend and I wont miss it .. I like the I formation and spread offenses .. but KC coaches know what they have to do to win ... ex. Mitchell ... they had athletes all over the field ... if KC coaches were coaching Mitchell it would be scary how good they could be ... but KC plays smart .. limit mistakes , draw teams offsides in crutial situations and lay back and wait for a team like Mitchell to make a mistake ( 3 INTS - when why would you even try a pass .. when you are averageing 9 yards a carry ... duh !!! ) ... KC shouls play alot of close games and never get blown out because they run clock with running game and wait till you beat yourself ... I give Pemberton credit he plays the style that he has the only chance of winning .. we all know KC is not gonna line up in I and pound football and we know they are not gonna spread field and beat you with a bunch of athletes .... anyway I have rambled ...

P.S> are the feeder programs down a bit at KC ?? I watched Fulton JV and Fulton Frosh play KC JV and Frosh ... Fulton won the games and Fulton is down ... looked like both schools didnt have alot of good young players .. of course I know Fulton had alot of sophs starting on varsity and KC did too ... but the 9th graders didnt look too good on either side .....

    Tadvols.

How is AHAM? Still playing down in MS @ JUCO, or someplace else, or not at all? Thanks.

    ruse?

BTW, IrishBBall is right, the Catholic Super Midget team just rolled this year, and with 8-10 sophomores starting on Catholic's varsity, I would expect the frosh/JV to be down.

  17. Catholic will be fine in their new district. Here is why. Previous performance is a fine indicator of future performance. When Catholic went into 2-3A, they were picked by most (including me) to do no better than 4th. AE or Fulton at the top, with AC, Kingston/Catholic. They did fine then. They have grown in numbers, and developed a an even better feeder program since then. Their 8th grade team won the league, that I believe includes some of the Knox. Co. teams they will play in 6A district play & 5A playoff play. According to the broadcasters yesterday they only had five starters back from last years team. So what? That means talented depth is there. They have a bunch coming back next year. They will give Mville, Farragut, Bearden, West, Billy Blount all they want. I'm not suggesting they will beat them all, but it would not surprise me. Farragut will be strong (they beat Mville in a scrimmage this past fall). I know. Bearden with Young, and the new QB, along with a much more experienced line will be good. Meadows is back at Billy B. Maryville lost, so they will be out to restake their claim. Cummings has West pointed in the right direction. District is going to be fantastic viewing for an old fan like me. Catholic will be in the mix. MM should roll through next year. Fine team.

    ruse?

  18. Are you kidding me?

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

With all due respect to KC, Mitchell's foolish play-calling (frustration?) had NOTHING to do ANYTHING caused or done by KC or its staff.

Mitchell's coaching staff just messed up, on their own accord. They were not provoked, induced, forced or anything else...

Nope. From what I've seen over the years, and more this than previous, is Catholic mixing up their fronts/coverages. They focus on one threat, and do what they can to eliminate it. Saw then do it with Rogan. They were not going to give up the quick score. That meant no Malone, and no QB rolling. Make MM go the distance, the long way. Like Fulton or AE, MM, because they had so much success with that over the course of the year went to the well to get something that was not there. I agree, they should have run Gibson back to Memphis, but the temptation to try what worked all season was too great. Fulton figured that out 2 yrs ago, and used a kid named Freeney to knock them out instead of Rogan. BTW, I'm not a Cat fan, but I do appreciate what they do. Gibson is the real deal, and the Neal kid is going to be a good one too.
