Last year, Montes was preseason all state. He injured his shoulder in preseason,had surgery and came back just to play a few reps against SS. He graduated. #36 Demarcus Knight(SR) is the kid who signed with ole miss in the preseason. He is a great player but has been overshadowed by our D line play. He has not made as many tackles as expected but does make big plays. #40 Matt Helton(JR) started as a soph. and played well agaist you guys last year and ran down fletcher on one play. James Howell(SR) played SS and moved to LB for a few games this year. He broke his ankle at GHS and is out for the year. David Mcmahan(SR) played alot of reps over the lasy 3 years and has started all season either at LB or end much like Helton depending on what we are running. Jared Broyles(JR) will play Will and has all year. We have a solid LB corp. with experience. I hope that helped clear it up.

I think the temp. for friday is going to be tolerable. I never cared to play in the cold but as my bones have gotten older, I hate sitting and watching in the cold.

I can say on behalf of the Hurricanes, our prayers are with the family and all students at South. We may be rivals come friday night but we are all on the same team the rest of the time. Our prayers go out for you all.

He did that 3 weeks ago against GHS. We have depth and rotate like crazy so we are OK. He is a great player but we are deep at LB and have filled the gap nicely the last 2 weeks.

I actually appreciate that comment. We are a physical team and sometimes we just get recognized for speed.

You are using the common opponent like a drunk uses a light post: to lean on and not for illumination. North beat Crockett 34-6. We beat Crockett 28-14. We beat North 32-3. Ya see!!!!! The old common opponent thing is debunked right there.

From what I gather, D1 had a coach up from Ole Miss this week and if ture, that may explain the effort. He did have a good game on fri. and we will need him this week. Our D must play a good game, I agree.

I would like to add this: East is a very strong and physical football team. We really don't play anyone both ways and if we do, they are more than conditioned to do so. Our weight and conditioning program is as good as any around and these guys are in the 3rd year of it. I am well aware of South and what they bring to the table and respect them for who they are. If we had been 10-0 and they 8-2, I would still respect them because games are played on the field and not on paper. Some of what has been posted here will be bulletin board material just like a few posts on the East-North thread had been.

Oline is Hurst,Lynch,Hux,Penalba,Lowe. # 72Hurst(Sr.) is 6'3 about 240 and mobile. #76 Lynch(jr.) is 5'11 about 245 and aggressive. #75 Hux is 6'3 320 and is very atheletic for that size. #54 Penalba is about 6' 230 and mean as a striped snake(very aggressive). #65 Lowe is 6'3 295 and can walk on his hands(very atheletic). The backfield is #33 Dee Dee johnson(jr.) and #38 KJ Kelly(jr.) rotating at fullback and both have rolled up yardage this year. They both run downhill. Tee Howell and Tavin Blanton are burners and are used at wideout and wings. Lowe(235 lbs) is used as a B Back and Turner is at QB. He is around 6'3 215 and is quick. We have used a Jumbo set at times with LB's Matt Helton(235) and Demarcus Knight(230) in the backfield on short and goaline situations. Sandifer at WR and TE Matt Price(6'3 220) have been great at blocking downfield and nice targets in the passing game. Our Dline(sloan,Gulley and Moody)is very quick off the edges and have rolled up several sacks and our interior line(Christian and Fair) are both around 250 and plug the middle well. Our LB core is the same as last year with Demarcus Knight,Matt Helton,David Mcmahan and Jared Broyles. They have all had really good seasons. Our secondary is Wills and Jones. Both are 3 year starters. Howell will play on D and some on O. We had growing pains last year due to injuries and had to throw ALOT of soph. talent in the fire. They have matured and this is the result. Virtually our whole backfield are returning starters and will be again next year.

That is funny stuff right there. I thought that North was made up of DB transfers? We beat that team pretty solid on friday and I am sure that if you played South,GHS,East,West and THS on a yearly basis, you might not have to worry about a 10-0 regular season and a #1 ranking so then, being knocked out in the first round would not sting as much as it does every year. Maybe Mcminn feels they got a cupcake in round 1 this year. Why go hating on others because DB can't get it done when it counts?

We are well conditioned too and have as many weapons as you guys do. The difference is we have won games by lower scores than you due to our own mistakes. Our qb was injured last year and that hurt us badly but with a soph. backfield, we made the playoffs. That qb and all the backfield returned and our D is faster than last year and honestly can match you athelete for athelete. I am in no way predicting a win but I feel this one is going to be a great game.

I am sorry that you have to use the term "boy" to try to get to me but all you are doing is making yourself look ignorant. Please post about the upcoming game and stop trying to tarnish our program with your false claims from soccer moms about cheap shots that the ref looked right at and did not call.

This is funny stuff!!!!!!! Next you'll say that they stopped the bus on the way home so our guys could rob a 7-11!!!! North and South boys are no saints themselves but hey, we understand it is football and it happens. As for sportsmanship goes, #21 for North pushed one of our players and then ran as they shook hands after the game but I am sure that the little darling had a reason. Right? Stop crying for god's sake.

Thanks MOM. I know it was hard to see your boy get manhandled but what you are doing is uncalled for and just plain being a crybaby. East plays physical but they play clean. Ask any of our 5 rivers foes who we have played for years. To say we played dirty is trying to discredit the effort we put forth and somehow make it look as if you lost it other than on the field. I know South is a good team and I applaud you for praising a team that handed you your overrated hind parts but so did we. We have beaten south within the last 2 years and know what it takes to do it. It is a great task that we are proud to have the chance at. Thanks for your trip to Mtown, I hope you enjoyed the facilities and all had a safe trip home. Now go get those ice packs and bake some cookies for the boys and STOP CRYING about it!!!!! BTW, if there was a player throwing punches at a kids throat and the ref did not see it, I would ask your coach to submit the tape to the TSSAA for review. While they are at it, they can see how a pancake block gets called as a hold and brings back a TD. The refs drew a wellfare check last night(they did not earn it but got paid anyway just for showing up).

You came to East and played a more physical team. Period and end of story. Your guys had late hits and liked to push and shove after the play and we just took it to you and hit you in the mouth. I saw no "throat punch" or nor dirty play. Way to lose with class by whining and coming up with excuses. South is a very good team. They were a very good team in 06' too. No one gave us a chance then including SS fans. I think it will be a better game than what the experts say and I say this one is too close to call.

Our D has looked really good against the run all year when we are in our regular sets. GHS had us stretched to protect against the pass and burnt us with the run. I think we will be OK. I think Knight will be back at middle LB this week and I am not so sure we are better off. Helton has done a good job filling the inside 3 of the last 4 weeks. I am not saying we don't need him out there every play but maybe at strong where his speed will be better utilized and his inability to read will not be highlighted. In all, I think we will be OK.

Yes, we actually do. We are the type of team that will NOT complete a series of passes in a drive but will hit the deep ball for a score and lossen up a D for the run. I would say we are about 50% completion on the year and have several guys that have caught passes.

Does North have enough speed to run the edges? A passing game?

He ditched practice..............again. He is a selfish and overrated player and we are better off without him.
