  1. Ravenwood should have a lot of pride in the way the coaches and players handled themselves nobody has questioned that. What everyone is trying to say is the student section are the ones that dished it out and it would appear the whole raptor nation paid the price thats the way it goes. I guess maybe they learned a lesson.

Are you suggesting nobody to be allowed on the field after the game? Maybe it should be that way I know all the parents and fans are eager to congratulate or console their players that would be a hard rule to accept but maybe it should be one.

Lastly, I didn't mean your school is the only one with thugs because lets face ALL the schools have them I am just suggesting its high time the raptor nation realize your school is NO different from any other schools in the state you have your thugs just like the rest of us sorry to be the one to break the news to the raptor nation but its the facts. And by the way you have no idea what goes on on the field in the middle of the game all of our "little angels" become warriors and anything goes and usually does. You would probably be shocked at what comes out of our sons mouths.Your son is probably relunctant to say anything because it sounds like you would pull him off the team. It is pretty clear you never played the game and haven't a clue what goes on during the battle. Oh! but you are the Raptors maybe is different at your school.

My comment about my son had to do with his conduct as a player and a person on and off the field. And, yes, I have a very good "clue" as to what takes place on the field, court, etc. etc. both as a long-time player and son/brother of high school/college football coaches. So, please don't make the leap that people are clueless and uninformed as to the ways of the sports world. Been there/done that many times!

Lastly, no one was attacking your ideas. You started your response apologetically then decided to rant some more. Which is it? I never defended/accused either side just made some statements based on my experience!

  2. I bet she (suzanne baird) cannot beleive they used her name. If I had done something like that my sons would be so mad at me for stirring up a hornets nest like she did. I bet the other parents are not too happy about it either. I get the idea they are just laying low waiting for it to blow over they are not on here much anymore and I cant blame them there is nothing they can say to make it right. Mrs. Baird and other parents were too quick to call out the kids when they should have been calling out their own bunch of little thugs. And just wait until next season its going to get all started again and the Raptors are probably going to get a heavy dose of medicine this will put a huge target on their backs and they better grow some very thick skin between now and August because I am thinking they will need it.

The difference is that the players/coaches are held to a higher standard than the fans. That has always been the case at every level. If it were not the case you would see a constant repeat of the Ron Artest/Indiana/Detroit debacle in the stands every night.

The Raptor football team has nothing to do with the chants/actions of the students at the school. The Raptor coaches monitor the actions of their PLAYERS only. They too are not responsible for the action of the fans, parents, opposing players, etc.

Also, during the regular season and playoff games, fans are allowed on the field after a game. Not allowing fans on the field would have prevented the confrontation with the fans/Smyrna players during their regular season meeting. Preventing fans on the field in the first place would have prevented this whole "mess" from happening and escalating.

Lastly, quit throwing stones(calling students thugs, etc.) at glass houses. All involved need to take responsibility and quit pointing fingers and placing blame outside their house. My son was on the field and has never acted like anything but a true sportsman(or he would not be playing). Simple as that...Does that make him better or worse than others, NO. It means he is living up to an expectation. Something we all need to do in our lives at some point!!!!

  3. Well, wait a minute.... don't you think that if it was wet then Smyrna would be at a disadvantage because it would be tougher to pass when it's wet?

In my opinion I don't think that the weather will be a factor in this game (thank god!!).

Both teams throw the ball very well and should not have a problem on Saturday. Also, both of these teams run the ball well and that balance on offense makes them both tough to defend. Game will probably come down to defense and special teams in the end.

Two of the best junior QB's in the state on the big stage!!!

  4. yeah i know that the field is turf, I graduated from MTSU. I just know that both teams are very evenly matched and a big factor in this game will be if the raptors offense can be successful in wet weather or even damp conditions on the surface. being turf is almost worse because the turf will be like a slip n slide.

MTSU has a brand new field as of this season, FieldTurf. The field will be perfect for both teams on Saturday and won't have an impact on the game. Weather forecast is dry and chilly with little wind to deal with...Good luck to both teams. They deserve our respect and support for making it to the BORO...

  5. White Station has earned their way throughout the season and the playoffs just as Ravenwood has. No one expects Ravenwood to "give" WS anything. I am sure players from both teams will leave it all on the field tomorrow night.

Here's the thing...Memphis fans have always been very respectful(gracious!) on these boards when discussing their team and their opponent. It was true with Ridgeway last year in the semifinals and with White Station this year. We(Ravenwood) play a hard, clean game with no trash talking. Our fans (all our fans) should follow the example set by our players/coaches. Best of luck to White Station tomorrow. We look forward to playing the team that will represent Memphis.

  6. O.K, so maybe they'll win more than 2 playoff games.

Cheers to you Mikey for owning up to your prediction. It is rare for someone to come back and say, "I missed this one". Those close to the program knew what we had as a group of players/coaches but never what to expect week-to-week. This was a great team effort to win three playoff games(on the road) but still want to be able to compete for the gold ball for the second year in a row. Wish us luck in winning "two more"...

  7. I just looked at their schedule. White Station may have got the team they wanted to play this game against. Ravenwood has given up more points then Wooddale did. Of course they score alot of points. But if this is going to be a run and gun type game I think it helps W/station chances.

Hope ya'll win two more games but only one person do I stand in cold for and He's not playing.............

Going to be in the high 60's on Friday...See you at the game and bring along BOO!

  8. Yeah they did and it was a complete atrocity. A comedy of errors, in my opinion.

Paul Clecker was 2nd team as a DL...well he plays LB. Chris Darnell (9th in the state in receiving) did not make 1st or 2nd team while Todd Campbell's mediocre numbers landed him 1st team honors.

Jonathan Long is a moron. I've known that all along but I cannot take him any longer. I doubt that he even pays attention to any games other than the ones that he covers.

I'll get you a complete list in just a second, though.

Terrible oversights on these two guys and a few others. Typical of any all-area teams that some deserving people get overlooked while others still thrive on reputation(see Campbell).

  9. You took that quote out of context. Go back and read the post and you'll see that I was responding that All-Region slots should not be based on purely the talent level, but rather the year they have had. For instance, Todd Campbell is probably the most talented player in the region, but he had a bad year so he fell from the rankings.

Now Jgkarl, I know this may come as a shock, but there are many people outside of CoachT that voice their opinion on High School Football. Alot of the press was saying that even though Oak Ridge beat arguably the best team in the state, Ravenwood had the better all-around team. Plus, no one was seriously shocked when Ravenwood won.

Third of all, stop randomly bashing CHS. This is a post about Ravenwood and White Station. If its the middle of the season and the post revolves around Centennial, by all means talk trash. But the season is over, we lost almost every game, no one here cares any more. So to take your trash talk to a totally unrelated thread is just weak. Talk about the game at hand or don't talk at all.

Now CHS, why did you get your panties in a bunch over these comments. Grow some balls and quit worrying about whether I'm bashing you or Centennial. I'll post on this thread or any other as long as your still posting. Good luck with your inferiority complex!!

  10. The assumption here is that Coach Wright will have us play at the Fairgrounds yet again, if that changes I will post similar info for the newer site.

This map is from the Liberty Bowl game site. I will look for a more detailed map, but this will get you there. The field we will be playing on is directly North of Liberty Bowl Stadium, literally a long parking lot away. On this map you see McCarver Stadium , although it is now been torn down ( leaving a big empty field ) our field is due East, right along Central Avenue.

    http://www.libertybowl.org/navigation-content-parkinginfo

Getting to the Fairgrounds area from Nashville is pretty easy. Assuming you are traveling West on I 40, proceed on to Sam Cooper Blvd when you reach the I 240 junction. Sam Cooper dead ends into East Parkway, take a left, traveling South a mile or so and you will reach Central Avenue ( CBU college will be on your left ). Take a left onto Central, about a qurter mile or so take a right on Early Maxwell and the field will be on your left, you will take the first left off of Maxwell that you find to get to the parking area itself. ( This is a public field so the restrooms are just average if you know what I mean ).

The above is my suggestion as to the easiest way to get there. There are some great places to eat only a couple of miles away in the Cooper Young area and the Cooper Madison Avenue area. Not to mention Downtown and on Beale Street, etc.

Thanks Stuman for the help. We appreciate it and look forward to a well-played game on Friday. Sorry no one has helped give you any insight on our team but not much to say. You get this far and you know that you've got your hands full no matter who you play.

  11. First off, I hate you.

Second off, just remember that people outside CoachT have opinions about High School football. Alot of people said that the teams were evenly matched and the game would be a toss up. Some people even favored the Raptors. Oak Ridge was a good team that suprised Riverdale and they had probably the best rusher in the state of tennessee. But many felt that the Raptors had the better all around team.

No reason to hate me CHS...you made the silly statement about whether anyone else had a chance against the Owls and my answer was a resounding YES!! You being a Centennial fan with an unrealistic view(remember the quote, "CHS should have half the All-Region slots with the talent they have"). Come back to reality and realize that Ravenwood, White Station and Smyrna are all viable contenders for the title. The Owls are a very good, undefeated team (remember Gallatin) that is beatable. Last, but not least, Ravenwood was far from the favorite in last years championship game against Oak Ridge. After OR beat "mighty" Riverdale, everyone thought that they would walk all over Ravenwood.

Good luck in your search for a head coach. I suspect that Gregory did not purposely try to lose 9 games last year with the "great" talent you had at CHS.

  12. Top Ten gets a bit iffy near the bottom for me. Top five would be:

1.Maryville(so far ahead it's rediculous. Anyone that doesn't have them #1 is stupid).

    .

    .

    .

    .

    .

    .

    .

    .

    .

    .

    .

2.Ooltewah(slight edge over the D2s due to being my team)

    3.Brentwood Academy(Edged McCallie, balanced team)

    4.McCallie(BJ Coleman, talented. Lost closely)

5.Riverdale(beat Smyrna in every aspect of the game except heart and final score)

After that, it'd be Fulton, Alcoa, White Station, Evangelical, Hillsboro, Red Bank and Smyrna too close to call for my comfort.

I know its a new school and you may not be familiar with it yet but Ravenwood should probably start to pop up in your Top Ten list sometime soon. Good luck against Smyrna...maybe you will get to meet Ravenwood face to face in a couple weeks and get more familiar with the team.

  13. Don't expect Ravenwood to sit on a lead. Rector believes in his kids and they believe in his gameplan. They don't quit going downfield on any play. Most teams play it like 3 yards and a cloud of dust Ravenwood plays it like 80 yards and 6 points. The D is not too shabby either...(they are really good). I think Ravenwood should send Dickson County a thank you card after the season is over. They got their wake-up call a week before the playoffs began which has helped them over the other teams they have beaten in the playoffs. They understand to play next week leave it all on the field this week.

Looking more and more like they will be the first 5-A team to repeat since BA did it in 95-96.

Thanks for the nice comments about the team. One of the best things about the staff and players over the last 4 years of varsity football is that they don't look ahead...This team is solely focused on White Station this week and not whether they have a chance to make the finals and repeat as champs. Also, hats off to a very good and very classy Hunters Lane team for playing a clean, hard hitting game last night. 5-5A showed that they have some terrific teams with great talent and solid coaching.

  14. on another thread ravenwood is in the state championship

Spear---you didn't get access to the coach t crystal ball! ya, ravenwood is playing smryna in the state championship. you guys lose this week 24-21...pay your $20 to coach t and find out about the rest of the state match-ups.

ps---if you weren't such a raptor hater you'd get to see the future for free!!!!

  15. Considering both teams have 8-4 records...

HL will have their work cut out for them Friday. Ravenwood has a decent passing game, and I dont think HL has faced a passing attack all year. Majority of the teams they play are run oriented. I know the Raptors picked away at Gallatins secondary pretty easily.

For the Warriors to come out with another W, they need to get out of the habit of making stupid mistakes. Fumbling a punt that led to a touchdown...wasting a timeout on a PAT...delay of game penalties....they need to get out of that funk. They had good chances to score more points tonight, but couldnt convert. It doesnt help that they dont have a kicker that cant kick a field goal any farther than the 20.

On paper, it looks like Ravenwood has the advantage in every catagory...but I think Hunters Lane will put up a good fight, just like Antioch did tonight. Maybe not leave with a victory, but they will sure make Ravenwood earn their trip to the semis.

Good luck to both teams Friday.

I know that both teams have the same record. I was trying to get our friend HLHS to calm down and get himself to bed before he gave to much bulletin board stuff to Ravenwood.

  16. hmmm last time i read the HLHS vs h-ville post most people had h-ville picked to win because they beat franklin a team we beat in a scrimage an it seems liek Ravenwood had trouble putting away antioch an this friday it wont be good weather an thats when HLHS has played its best we will see friday tho.....

So if we do the math on this bad boy, Antioch beat you by 7, Ravenwood beat Antioch by 7=Ravenwood over Hunters Lane by 14. This is your prediction? Strange for you to go against your own team/school but at least your honest about it. Good luck in your career as a weatherman, sounds like you have real promise in making "correct" forecasts. Good night!

  17. can HLHS pull another upset? the answer is its possible some doubt them some are still shocked on how they have triumphed past brentwood an h-ville an are the only 5-5a team remaining an have lasted longer than predicted 5a champ gallatin who was sent home during week 1 after a undefeated regular season...what is to come of this young warrior team we will find out friday...will there cinderalla season end or will it end to be or not to be ....lol  who you guys got in this one ? but one things for sure we know its the playoffs its either bring your 'A game or go home' an HLHS an ravenwood have both brought there A game now who do you guys have going home

Go home and go to bed...I'll take the team with the 8-4 record. Sweet dreams!!
