  1. I don't specifically recall that on Steeple. Which meet was it? Also, even if that is the case, unless he was hurt, we are seeing some inconsistency in their 4 and 5 which could lead to their demise. Again, MLK has a good shot at taking the crown, I just think that Station Camp will be able to stack the gaps (there is also a gap at region from 17:57 to 18:25 for their 5) and beat them. MLK faces the same problem FRA faced last year (granted FRA did not have 3 people in the 16s, but had a very solid 1-4 and a suspect 5).
  2. Correct he did. Their four ran a 17:57 at Region also (see my post on the results from Region 5-A/AA. They're stacked 1-3, but I wonder if a fairly large gap between their 3 and 4, and between their 4 and 5 could cause them to lose state. MLK is a great team, don't get me wrong, but it would not surprise me if Station Camp or maybe USJC (the stealth team that nobody ever knows about) slipped in and won the whole thing. The only reason I don't think Lipscomb would do it is because their 5 is also pretty far back, around an 18:13 or so. Their 4 isn't great, and they don't have the top three to compete with MLK (with the exception of Musick). Again, they are good, their 2 is solid, but not quite good enough to beat the top pack of MLK, especially considering that DL usually has a complete melt down at state. By the way, things get a lot easier in A-AA next year...Station Camp is too large to compete, so they should move to AAA I believe, and FRA is going Division II-A next year. My team predictions are as follows: 1. Station Camp 2. MLK 3. USJC 4. Lipscomb 5. Macon County 6. Dyersburg 7. FRA
  3. I think I know the times you were using for MLK...and they ain't steeple. Try Twilight. I don't believe their 5 has ever broken 18:20 at steeple.
  4. Region 5-AA 1. MLK - 30 2. DL - 42 3. FRA - 90 4. Hume-Fogg - 127 Individuals: 1. Jeff Musick (12), David Lipscomb 16:43 2. Micah Wasserman (11), MLK 16:55 3. John Gilpen (11), MLK 16:55 4. Ryan Graves (11), MLK 17:07 5. Jack Kaiser (12), FRA 17:22 6. John McCaslin (12), FRA 17:25 7. Hunter Amonette (12), David Lipscomb 17:27 8. Andrew Edgeworth (11), David Lipscomb 17:27 9. Jonathan Gilbreath (12), MLK 17:57 10. Nik Rodewald (10), FRA 18:12 MLK is scary good. And pretty darn young too. If MLK can pack up and get four of their guys together, they have a great shot. However, their 5 man is at an 18:25. At state, that will be a lot more than the 2 places it was at Region. Anyone that wants to beat MLK is going to have to put guys up near the top, and then stack the gap in order to win. Better yet would be stacking the time gap between Graves and Gilbreath, a gap of 50 seconds. MLK is very good, but vulnerable. An interesting note that I am sure you all noticed: no at large bids from Region 5.
  5. Very, very true. Although the second mile is the absolute key to running a good race, the first mile is also very important. If you go out too fast, you die way too early, and if you go out slow you can't catch up to where you need to be. The first mile is one where you need to run your pace, not much faster or slower, and then demolish the second mile. If you have anything left in the tank, the small hill going to the gravel road is a great place to surge. The third mile also presents an intriguing challenge. Until you pass the horse riding arena, the third mile contains a small little hill that kills most people. After that, the entire gravel road, is downhill. You've got it flat until about 1200 to go. At that point, if you can hold on up the hill, you can beat whoever you want to beat. The final downhill is tough. Your body is dead by that point (unless you were holding back the entire race), so its tough to keep turnover and speed up going down the hill. It also presents a golden opportunity to get passed if you don't tear through that hill, especially if you are in the front-middle pack because there are people who aren't great runners but have outstanding kicks, you can get beat. That last uphill before the finish line is sink or swim. That's steeple...not pretty, not easy, and not a whole lot of fun. But as JFK would say, "We do not choose to do these things because they are easy, but because they are hard."
  6. Go right ahead. It amuses me greatly.
  7. Just for the record, I did not make this up. The MIT cheer that is chanted at all football (yes MIT has football), basketball, etc. The chant is: E to the U, DU, DX, E to the X, DX Cosine, Secant, Tangent, Sine 3.14159 Integral, Radical, mu, dv Slip Stick, Slide Rule, MIT
  8. I see. That's not too bad, but the latest workout out of the MIT Engineers track team is the following: E to the U, DU, DX, E to the X, DX (# of laps for the warmup, use line 3 as X) of and (let u=x+1)(Let X=line 3) Cosine, Secant, Tangent, Sine (using pi to solve for these, they will cancel, so multiply 1 by the first part of workout) 3.14159 (then multiply this by the answer of step two) Integral, Radical, mu, dv (take this to find the amount of rest in between each and multiply this by the last line) Slip Stick, Slide Rule, MIT (don't multiply by the MIT part) I'm not smart enough to figure out the last two lines, but it amounts to part of the following: 1. 128.8055147 warm up laps 2. 404.6541169 200s 3. ? 4. ? If anyone can actually solve lines three and four, it would be greatly appreciated. Oh, and use 3.14159 to solve anything else if you're going to try.
  9. I was disappointed with DL in the kilted mile. They didn't bother wearing kilts, only their girls' uniform skirts. Weak. /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" Mrobinson12, haha. I feel your pain.
  10. Don't know if he will do all 3, but Russell Rodewald did it his senior year. He won the 1600, 3rd in the 3200, 4th in 800. It can be done, mostly becuase the 3200 is in the morning, so plenty of time to recover before the grueling 1600 and 800 stretch to end the day. I don't know that he could win all three, I think he will get plenty of challenges in the 800, and I have a hard time seeing him winning more than 1, maybe two. I doubt he wins all three.
  11. Yeah, we went pretty light. Back of the pack was at 5:03, 4:59, 5:06.
  12. Here is why you should not: If I am Team X and I want to upset Team Y, and I know from looking at workout times that my 1600 runners would not stand a chance in the 1600 against Team Ys, but I know that they would stand a fighting chance in the 3200 or the 800 depending on the times I got from team Ys workouts, I can place those runners in different events where they would score more points and thus have an opportunity to knock off team Y. Also, it is material for your individual opponents to study. For example is John Doe is running against Bob Jones and Bob knows that John tends to have an exceptionally strong 3rd 200 on an 800 run, but a weak second and fourth, I know that I want to run the race in the following way: I want to hang with John through the first 200, accelerate through the second and pass him, then when he comes back with the strong 3rd 200 I would weather the storm and than be able to outkick him in the final 200. So this will only hurt YOU as well as YOUR TEAM if you post these workout times. Don't.
  13. Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Yes, it matters what happens in workouts. Keep it close to the best.
  14. Kaiser is awfully fast. Look for him to mostly be an 800 runner though. He has raw speed and is an excellent 800 runner. If McCasslin does track full time he could be a very good 1600 runner. Pickeral will do well regardless. He is a great 800 runner, and, like Kaiser, is very fast. The 4 X 800 will be a strong group coming up this year. FRA, DL, MLK, and Station Camp all look to have very good 4X8s this year. Distance (especially the 16) is stacked. With Johnson, Mahaney, Winn, Wathan, potentially Musik and same with Kaiser. It will be interesting to see who FRA choses to be their miler. If mccasslin is more serious with track than baseball, he will be it. But, with the 4X8 and mile so close together, likely Davis, Pickerel, Kaiser are out. Who knows who the 4th guy will be.
