  1. Just an old timer that listens, may it be the Jan Mar, Church, Ren Center or where ever. I dont mean to make em mad, I just dont drink GC's Kool Aide. TOO many things get swept under the rug up there. Not just GC but Wilson, Walton, Pugh... But it seems more now since the there is more pressure to win. Several posts still keep talking about the great coaching job. ???? DB finally has a runner running North/South, up under center, a least half a huddle (still need to run the play in) and playing weak teams. How many players in E Tn are being looked at by D-1 schools? That should give you a hint how weak E Tn football is. Since we all like predictions, let me make one for next year. CS will be the fullback and JS the tailback. PS 5 freshman got moved up this week. If they were that great, why didnt they try them at JV sometime during the season since they had problems beating a good team. Oh well, easy win this Friday, maybe some more sr's will get a little playing time.
  2. I'm not sure why you have 10 back on punts when he spent first part of the week on crutches. He is lucky he got up from one of those punts. Once again, 100 strong but only a select few play. Number 10 will cost DB on a punt return. He doesnt know when to get away from one and when to field one. brain
  3. I dont think I would be betting the ranch on 3 region 1 wins. Dont forget DB has now been winning over teams with losing records including this Friday night. Some rearranging of the deck chairs has helped the offense along with dumping that idiotic offensive scheme they had the first part of the season. I guess GC started reading Coach T and got the hint. Dont forget OR didnt have their 1st string QB the entire time against DB. DB will have to keep a 4 man front or a good O will exploit the right side of the DB's D. Look to see a good opponent to force DB to pass. And when it really counts I'm not sure we can make the big play on Offense, maybe on D, but not O. The proof has been in the pudding and I think GC made the pudding.
  4. Before Hunter Wright was ever built the plan was to slide the football field toward the park and add on seating. It would have allowed more room for the baseball end and a permanent field/fence. It would have included new locker rooms, cocessions, etc for both sports. But the tree huggers won and today we have have a park that is used by all of 3 people a day and a baseball stadium with about the same number. A simple remedy to having enough seating is to eliminate those who have had season ticket holders since the stadium was built, but dont come to the games. Many schools that have upgraded their stadiums have priced them like pro teams and colleges. You pay for your seat and then you buy the ticket. Of course there has to be something for the fan to really want the seat like seats with backs. This puts the price of the upgrade on those that actually come to the game. Those who have season tickets just to say they do will not want to pay for the upgrade. The premise for the turf was to allow more "special" (not just sports or band) groups to use the field but they are now thinking they will require a cover to protect the turf. $$$$$ I think that defeats the purpose, but I'm sure a school board that cant make up their mind on what kids can wear to school from one year to the next can figure out turf management. Perhaps a big Eastman logo at midfield will solve all of their problems.
  5. Maybe they can borrow some of the empty seats at Neyland if the Vols lose to Spurrier? The plan is to construct new band seating where the old concession stand was. Angle it toward the field and home stands to allow sound to be better heard. Move student section to old band stands to open up more seating. Not a lot of new seating but some. They cant build for one large game every 2 years. Besides, adding on the homeside would only put you past the end zones.
  6. Curious, what sport did you coach. It seems that tobacco use is most prevalent in football and baseball. Both sports are the most conducive for the use, outside with limited running. I applaud you for quitting. I encourage you to get other coaches to not only quit, but to stop allowing the use of tobacco on school property by both coaches and STUDENTS/PLAYERS. They should not allow it to be used on the field, locker room, buses, etc. I cant understand how a coach can preach team rules but allows not only a school rule but a law to be broken.
  7. Yeah, just ask DB. With DB probably being the underdog in the first round for the first time, expect GC to reach into his bag of tricks often. This may be what the doctor ordered for DB to advance...underdog, no pressure, just play and let the coaches do their thing. It is probably a good bet a R-1 team might advance (#1 or 2 team), but the sure bet is Science Hill is ship wrecked again with Gilligan.
  8. I would keep 61 in the front 4 mix for a breather. I also like #22 as a def. back vs some of the earlier games. He too adds size and doesnt do that hand/jersey tackling that several of the def backs do.
  9. #18 is the biggest LB DB has. Several times this year he came out on short yards.??? He should be in every defensive play since he is not playing on offense any this year. DB will have to beef up the LB's come playoff time. The get lucky blitzing #47 will not cut it. DB has a couple of solid defensive lineman (77, 61) watching from the sideline that can make a good 4 man front. I said they should have worked on the pass the prior game although several dissagreed. It was interesting to listen to TT on the radio talk about a good chance of getting a lot of the 100 players in the game. By midway in the 4th and first teamers still in he gave up that line.
  10. The turf is not 100% yet. It has lost some of its stem. I dont think the school board has approved. An approval will have to be made soon in order to get in line for the job to be completed by next year.
  11. Hmmm, thats why GC makes sure he mentions working the race when he visits the player's home AND mentions it again when he hands out the workout schedule. FYI- AB aint no dentist and knowing him you have insulted the man. Dont kid yourself and everybody else Pepe, SC is VERY involved with the race and who is volunteering, maybe not the head guy each year but involved. You need help on your math with "short day" = 10 hours and "long day" =16 + hours. Give you credit on my $50,000 +, care to say how much? 3-4 meals/week, helmet, jersey, Peach Bowl, sounds like a visa commercial, playing for GC priceless. (Now skunk you have to like that one) Not making the trip to see CS run it against a "good football team" as an earlier post said. The real question next week on here will be which one loss team (maybe 2 losses) will DB be playing in 3 weeks? Enjoy these weak teams at the end because Nov 9th will be different. Kind of reminds me of Fulmer's Nov. record.
  12. Unfortunately they reap what they sow. For ever and ever there has been so much pressure put on the parents to raise thousands and thousands of dollars for the team that I'm sure that is where the rub comes in. It is strongly rumored if you dont volunteer your son doesnt play. The parents become hostage to working the Bristol race and the person in charge of the volunteers is none other than GC's brother. I know parents in the past that based on what they make (Docs, lawyers, Bankers, Dentist) they would have been better off donating their paycheck than the 50-60 hours. They even try to write a check but they say they need the bodies so they dont lose the job. They dont cut anybody from the team because that is more parents to work the race and that I'm sure has caused the friction. They are probably running out of JV games and their boy has not seen the field. The same pressure will be applied come spring practice and the spring race. They raise a lot of money and they spend a lot ($50,000+?). That team is treated better than most small colleges. I dont agree with what the parent(s) did, but it is not the first nor the last.
  13. It sounds like they have moved the Lynn Garden league to J Fred. Curious, are they still letting Jrs play on JV and is that who is knocking them out PT? Who are the JV coaches and why would a new young coach be the head coach of the JV and not Fr.? Doesnt Wagner coach Fr.? If the JV is next group coming up to play it seems like you would want the most experienced coach in that job.
  14. Show some sportsmanship and take your first team out first when up by 21 with 3 minutes left. Oh, I guess you want the losing coach to signal with a towel that he has had enough? My child, tell the entire story, not just part. "running the ball late is" rubbing the nose in it when the best running back has almot 200 yards, 4TDs and inside the red zone. If had been a 3rd string senior getting to score his only high school TD, no problem. Not the CS show. Of course had he been hurt I would love to hear the GC song you would be singing this week! Altough it was predicted to rain during the day today, I DIDN'T LET IT! Sincerely AG
  15. He was, they were going to name the Patrick Henry Dam after him, but it just didn't sound right! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  16. Thats funny in a small group but not here. FYI - he hasn't spilled one in a VERY long time if you catch what I'm saying. Taylor and Spivey are two of the best around. I will scan the dial while traveling just to hear other annoucers for all sports and very few compare to what they do. Typically, other games outside of the area have the low man at the station having to do the games and/or somebody young. R and T are very fair to BOTH sides. They love what they are doing and you can hear it in the game they call. When it gets slow the comic relief kicks in. No wonder so many people listen to the games via the net.
  17. The infamous Rick Spivey once said on 1320 WKIN (the real call letters) many years ago "happiness my friend is a stuffed beaver!" And with that comment he flipped a cig over his shoulder and accidently burned a hole in the tent below where they were selling stuffed beavers for homecoming. As Lily Tomlin used to say "and thats the truth!"
  18. Maroon and grey stick to your x's and o's and not the debate team. As far as your first point, it doesnt matter if he didnt play until the 3rd qtr. and he is a 7th grader. If you are up 30-6 and still have your number one back with over 150 yards in less than 3qtrs, CS running the ball in the red zone with 3 minutes on the clock that bud is not exactly freezing the score. As far as them only scoring only 3 points in the 4th, it was not like the first team wasnt trying. An interception for TD by a first teamer that was called back in the final minutes is the ONLY reason you can make the arguement they only scored 3. As far as DB running the score up throwing the ball, that would be a first this season. At least the arguement could be made that they were truely getting that experience (passing, which is much needed) for the playoffs. IF they were able to throw the ball, then throttle it down some more. For that matter, work on field goals. Up that much, call on the kicker to have to perform on demand. That is pressure and THAT is how you get ready for the playoffs. Hmmm, 3 points, how important is that number over the past couple of years vs a Fr trying to run for over 200 yards? Running CS and the first team inside the red zone up 30-6 with 3 minutes left is not getting you ready for the playoffs, just making the score 37-6. "A coaching issue"? I didnt invent that but did help Al Gore invent the internet.
  19. Don'y worry, a good team will stop our run and then we will have to throw /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> Sorry, hard to keep up with you flip flop.
  20. Wow the wind has changed in WaCo' neighborhood. He must be downwind of the chemical plant on the island. When they lose 1st or 2nd round of the playoffs the wind will shift again in WaCo Forest. As long as you are getting a good hit from the chemical plant I bet you think Coach Morgan is the best basketball coach too.
  21. Comparing a college coach and high school coach is like comparing the cashier at Pals and Pal himself. $$$$! When you make millions to win games the alumni dont care as long as you win. Funny how you would compare Fulmer now that he has won 2 games in a row. "Freshman" has nothing to do with it when he is your best! Dont bring South into this, we are discussing DB. You sound like my kids when they were little, so and so is doing it too. Since when does a 3-4 record with 2/3 wins against teams with losing records make you a good team. Sorry coach, typically the team getting whipped doesnt show their cards first by pulling first teamers. I bet Karns is a good team too.
  22. I dont think it could have been much worse considering the starters were in until the final minutes. Keeping starting players in until the last 2 minutes of a game does not get you in shape. Swimmers, track and cross country dont get in shape the day of competition. They need to do a better job of getting in shape at practice and not just a couple sprints at the end of practice. A starter that has a field day no matter a Fr or Sr does not need to be playing at the end of the game this past Friday night. Neither did some of the other starters on both sides of the ball. With DBs starting Def backs still in the game and SC subbing running backs, GC reaked of something and I'm not sure of what. That is either rubbing SC's nose in it or just dumb. If you are going to leave the starters in, then practice what you can not do as in throw the ball. DB mastered running the ball by the 3rd quarter and should have tried a few passes. CS will continue to do well at tailback and with QB under center. When it comes time to play the stiff competition they will need JL as a blocking fullback. Move JS to receiver and let him do his thing in the open field with a one on one.
  23. The home life of LW vs CS is no comparison. LW had no home. He bounced from one house to another his high school years. Although excellent homes with caring responsible adults, it was TOO late to turm him around. He continued down the slippery drug lane. CS has had an excellent foundation and will stay grounded. (FYI- there are 2 walking the halls at DB right now as good as LW but the same lifestyle). The only thugs CS needs to be concerned about are the cheap shot thugs that will come when a coach leaves him in running the ball with a few minutes left in the game and the score 30-6! I'm no way saying SC had any shots, but I am saying it will happen. Leaving first string players in the game in the final minutes with the game well in control has always been GC's style. If I were SC Bear that would get stuck in my craw. It will bite him one day and this town will go wild. Heck, even the Patriots let a sub score last night against the Cowboys.
  24. Easy Skank, settle down. I was referring to YOUR glory days. I knew sometime in your era muffed a punt towards the end of a game that cost a very good DB team a good shot at state.
