  1. Here to all of the West TN teams. Good Luck and bring the gold back! Covington is pulling for all of you!
  2. I totally agree h2ofowlslayer. Congrats to Dyesburg. You guys played great defense Friday night and I wish you all luck against David Lipscomb. Your running game was impressive. But I was mostly impressed with your offensive line. The push you were getting was very visable from the stands. Covington struggled on offense after the first meeting with Dyesburg for the rest of the year and except for the Crockett game never really recovered. Gude being out hurt Covington but Dyesburg is quick on defense and the first man there made the tackle 95% of the time. It would have been difficult even if Gude would have played. I agree with some earlier posts where some of the play calling was questionable but none of us in the stands know the kids as well as the coach's. I have read all year long were coach Murphree has said we did not have a game breaker and that hurt us all year. I am still proud of the Chargers and am looking forward to another great year in 2007! In closing I would love to see the gold trophy come to West TN! Again good luck Trojans and play as hard as you did against us and you should be okay.
  3. What a game in Alamo tonight! Covington had a very good game plan and took some chances on offense and defense tonight. Split backfield with #18 Jones Hayden helped them stay in many 3rd and short situations. This took a lot of pressure off the offense. Covington did not throw many passes but when they did it was a postive play every time. DB's gave a 7 to 8 yard cushion on Crockett's receivers but got good help from the safety. Covington was able to get pressure on Massey at times that seemed to get the timing off a little. It really helped that one of the twins was in the backfield tonight. Eventhough he did a great job running the ball it allowed Covington to focus on just the one receiver. Crockett had a great year and still is a great team. We are glad to be moving on. Just shows how tough this region is. On the way home through Maury City & Gates I drove through one of the wildest storms ever. Glad it did not start until the game was over.
  4. Congrats to all 7-3A winners! I think this is the best 3A region in the state! Covington had a tough battle in Frayser tonight with Trezvent. Covington fumbled on the opening drive of the game after picking up a couple of first downs that lead to Trezvent's only score. After that Rodney Gude made several good runs one of which was a 24 yard touchdown. He had 114 yards on 14 carries in the first half as Covington led 14-6 at the half. That was the eventual final. Covington did threaten with 5 minutes left but could not punch it in on a 4th and goal inside the five. Trezvent had a mental error late in the game when they called two timeouts back to back on a 3rd down play late. After they punted the ball inside the 10 yard line Covington went very conservative and had to punt from out of there own enzone. The punt was bad and Trezvent had it at the Covington 25 yard line with 1:24 left in the game. After the Trezvent QB was brought down inbounds they hurried a couple of passes that fell incomplete. On 4th down Trezvent threw a screen pass and the receiver had to go to one knee to catch it. He had a blocker in front of him so it could have been dicey if the throw had been better. Trezvent's starting QB was injuried on the last play of the first half as they went for a touchdown at the end of the first half from the Covington 12 yard line. He was hit at the goal line otherwise it could have been a 2 point game or tied at the half. Trezvent went with a soph QB. Our defense played the run well as usual. Not much of an organized passing game for Trezvent after there QB went out. Our offense is still struggling.
