  1. what classes did helton teach, what was he certified in.
  2. as adistant observer of this whole mess i do not understand why you guys are caught up worrying about the caoaches you do have, when it is obvious that you need to go find someone with some more experience and that is a little more successful than what you have. i can tell you that as a friend of his coach mike pearson has almost 20 years experience in football and is very impressive when it just comes down to coaching period. he is one of those guys that has put his family first and it is now time for him to accept a head football job. bottom line about him is is he is one of those guys that can take his and beat you or he can take yours and beat you. someone needs to get the ball rolling on this guys behalf.
  3. coach pearson is a special education teacher who also has a background working with troubled children in the community. he is certified as a k-12 special ed teacher.
  4. billybobbasketball, i am going to answer a couple of questions for you that have been brought up on this sobject. first of all i am not from the wg community but i do know of mike pearson because he was the softball coach at pigeon forge for the past four years. i can tell you he is one "heck" of a coach and from watching him coach softball which he had never done before coming to pigeon forge the guy can build a program. i also can tell you from talking with him over the past four years that he has a very extensive football background. i know that he has coached at william blount, heritage, south greene and pigeon forge. he got out of football at pigeon forge because he was given full reign over the softball program. he has built an unreal field from nothing and he built a 10,000 sq. ft. indoor practice facility. i have seen what he can do and if i was rebuilding a program this is the guy i would hire, especially if he is interested.
  5. i am telling you that mike pearson is very interested and all he is doing is waiting on a phone call. his wife is from mosheim and they would make a great team. she is an ag. teacher and swaney has got to be retiring soon. she was one of his state officers when she was in highschool and i know that the ellenburg family is highly thought of in the community. so to get them back in the community would be a great benefit for the school. you have never seen what two people can do in building a program. the guy can coach and that is a fact. you may ask why he has never had a head football job before and that is a simpleanswer. he loves a challenge and is not in it for the money. west greene has always been a job that has interested him. get him hired because i know he is looking at a couple of other places and has been offered a head job in the last year bt he wants to do what is best for his family. did i mention get him hired.
  6. with the names that have been mentioned what is taking so long to get this thing done. do you think that if they were going to hire in house they would have already done something or are they waiting until the playoffs are over. as a friend and former player of coach pearson they are going to miss out on a great guy who loves his kids and the guy is a work aolic. he also is a fund raising genuis. just ask the softball people at west greene about the softball facilities he built at pigeon forge($200,000 field and 10,000 sq. ft. indoor facility. he took a team that was o-24 the year before he arrived and in 4 short years accomplished the facilities plus was 2 games from the state tourney twice with under manned teams. he got out of football there because of the unstable situation and is dying for this opportunity. hire the guy, support him, and watch what happens.
  7. i am from the maryville area and have seen the seen so many times at hhs and wb. the revolving coaches door is not a good thing. i think sequyah is young enough that all hope is not lost. along the same lines though someone is going to have to step forward and decide if the kids are the most important or just having a program is important. is there any support from the administration to support someone long enough to get the ship righted in the right direction or do they give in to the pressure of politics and money. to me this would be one important issue for whoever the new coach is. as a young head coach with experience in building programs that have not been very successful i could be interested if these questions could be answered unbiasely.
  8. i know that larry bible willhave the final say in who the new coach is , but what i wonder is barry carter going to have any say so since he is the athletic director. sometimes when the AD is the ex- head coach that can cause al kinds of problems. do you think that barry will be supportive of the new coach.
  9. are you referring to mike white from maryville. I believe he is the air-apparent to coach quarles at maryville whenever that happens. I know he is very happy at mhs and this is where his family is from. mike is highly thought of and he is a great guy plus a great coach. can't see maryville letting him go.
  10. does he have any connections to west greene and does he have any head coaching experience.
  11. with the list of names is the board of ed. going to change its policy and hire early or are they going to let everyone get hired elsewhere or let all the coaches in the playoffs get hired before thay make a decesion in the spring. for the overall success of the program the hire has got to take place before 2nd semester so the new guy is not fighting the time element so badly. this would be one thing the board can do to show that they are willing to make a commitment.
  12. Bottom line is if west greene wants to turn this thing around they wil find or make a position for a qualified coach. do you not think that if george quarles from maryville wanted the job they would find a position. Out of all the names that have been mentioned for this job list who you think stands the best chance of getting thejob when you take into account experience, political pull etc.
  13. as a friend of coach pearson i can tell you that he did not get run-off from south greene. he and his wife received about a 20,000 dollar household raise to move to pigeon forge. matter of fact when he was hired by the principal and larry neil they wanted him to become the head coach when larry stepped down as the football coach which was his plans after both of his boys graduated. not to say they did not have some disagreements but coach left on his own terms. i also no that he is the one who designed the fieldhouse at south greene. you have to realize that coach pearson was there to coach football and basketball had a tendency to get in the way of some of the things that should have been going on in football
  14. could anyone around the west greeneprogram tell me whatthey think about coach pearson could anyone around the west greene program tell what they think about coach pearson and what they know about him.
  15. could anyone around the west greeneprogram tell me whatthey think about coach pearson
  16. with all the talk about the west greene job could anyone put out a list of names that anyone feels is a potential hire or names that have been batted around
  17. As a high school coach that has coached in 5A, 2A,and 3A football i have witnessed the importance of a good football team. the excitement of agood team gets the student body involvedand it also has an impact in the community. discipline in the school is much less and the overall atmosphere of the school is better. I state all this to encourage west greene to do the right thing in he hiring of the new coach which i feel should be someone that is a proven winner in whatever he has coached. a good coach is a good coach because it is nothing more than teaching. I have a very good friend that used to coach at south greene that would be highly interested and he has the ability to provide all of the things mentioned above. he has built unbeliveable facilities and teams wherever he has been and he has not let the politics and administration to get in the way. he has a way of working with them to acomplish his goals. yes , once again i am talking about the guy from maryville that was at south greene and is now in the sevier county school system but not a part of the pigeon forge demise. please reply and let me know what you think. maybe we can communicate of line.
  18. if drew petiteis worth having then why don't they go ahead a get it done. i am telling you they need to be looking atmike pearson who was at south greene in 2001-2002. this guy can coach, motivate, and he has proven he can build ant type of program. plus the fact that his wife is an alum he would have some very influential backing not politics in orderto getthings done. i know how he feels about the youth programs and his players.
  19. sorry for the confusion on this but i am a new member and i would like to know who the coach at pf is that "nftc" replied to in his thread on who would be the next coach at west greene. the quote was something like "go after pf coach he would be a good fit."
  20. i must agree that larry neil rickerwas and in my mind will always be the heartbeat of sghs athletics. larryneil stood up for his beliefs like it or not. this is what it is going to take to get greeneville football where it needs to be. west greene is a place where a good young coach can be successful but the administration is going to have to decide whether or not they wan a wiining program that they can be proud of. i have been trying to find out if anyone has heard that mike pearson an assistant with larry nil about 6 or 7 years ago has been contacted about the job at west greene. i understand that his wife is from the area and may be wanting to go back home to be closer to her ailing parents. i believe he wold be a good one because i know he brought alot to the team at sghs when eil ricker was a senior. he has coached a variety of sports and has built very successful programs when he was the head coach, and he as coached 5A an 4A football in some tuff conferences. what do you think.
  21. rebelfan1969 could you tell me what you think about mike pearson as the head coach at west greene. I know he was at south greene 6 or 7 years ago. I think he is a pretty good football coach but just wanted someone who saw the rebels when he was out there I think in 2000.
  22. Iunderstand that mike pearson a blount county boy might be interested in the job. Iremeber that he was at South Greene 6 or 7 yeaars ago. I have talked to several people from out there and they say he did a really good job . The players really liked him and say that he really has a good understanding of the game and that he is a great guy. Also I understand that his wife is a West Greene grad and her family lives near the school. I also know that he has coached baseball and softball and has built really good programs wherever he has been. He is a great young coach that has always been overlooked for several jobs in blount county. He would be a goodone. What do you think.
