  1. No one said Jackson is a poor public school system. The system is in dissary for a variety of reasons from legal decisions, racial make up of schools, a n abundance of private schools in Jackson, and a City Council that doesn't properly fund the public school system. I lived a mile and half from Northside, yet my kids had to drive 6 miles to Jackson Central Merry. Yet surrounding communities, including Milan, are benefactors of families fleeing the Jackson Madison County School System. To say otherwise shows a lack of knowledge of Jackson and its school system.
  2. It is a fact that families are leaving the Jackson Pubic Schools and moving to the surrounding areas such as Milan. I have personally known numerous familes that have moved north to Humboldt and Milan. Families with sons who are athletes. How do I know this for a fact - I lived in Jackson for six years. Anyone in and around Jackson knows the school system there has problems. Clearly, not all the good athletes are moving to Milan, but I don't think Tribe or myself said that. But it is happening none the less.
  3. This quote was in reply to his statement that there weren't any private schools near Milan - which isn't the case.
  4. You'd be wrong on that statement. 1. University School of Jackson 2. Jackson Christian School 3. Trinity Christian Academy. All within about 20 minutes of Milan. The difference is people are leaving Jackson to Milan and surrounding communities to get out of the Jackson School System, so Milan is a big benefactor of parents making choices where there children attend school. Just like GP.
  5. To suggest that GP gives incentives to attend there is simply stupid. Let me put it another way. Would it be silly to find that there are people in Jackson who might move to Milan to get out of the Jackson school system and also participate in your football program?? Probably not. A lot of people are moving towards Milan to get away from the JMCSS. GP is known for its athletics, in all areas, so if parents choose to send their children to GP so they can participate in the athletics - is that an incentive. Not really. Its a choice made by parents as to where they want their children to go to school - Both academically and athletically, or maybe just to get out of the Davidson County Schools. As for playing both ways, our quarterback plays cornerback, our wide outs play dbs and our running backs play as linebackers. And the quarterback is the punter. So what your describing at Milan, sounds kind of like what goes on here at GP. Does that mean Milan offers incentives???? Additionally, GP runs the wing-t which requires at least 3 running backs. So naturally, GP is going to cultivate a bunch of running backs to be able to operate it effectively. The fact is most of the players at GP have been playing together since elementary school. The entire football program, from the middle school and JV football programs work towards developing quality football players that will eventually play on the Varsity. Sounds like good coaching to me.
  6. And hopefully the weather won't be too cold on Friday night. Best of Luck.
  7. So you won't think I skipped your question, or let it get lost in the "recruiting" posts: Of the 19 seniors on the GP team, all 19 of them were juniors on the team last year. In fact, GP lost 2 juniors from last years team who arent' on the team this year. And there are NO new seniors on the team, other than those who were juniors last year.
  8. Now you're playing with words. Adversting? Recruiting? There's quite a difference betwen the two. The previous implication was that GP coaches were out "recruiting" and bringing in football players from other schools. To say the implication was otherwise is naive. Just ask USJ in Jackson what happens when they pay for a student, or forget to collect the tuition, from a student. That's recruiting and its not going on at GP. Travel could definitely be a factor. But the bigger question is can Milan stop the run. GP has 2 backs over 500 yards and 3 others over 400 yards, and a stable full of others. 3,852 yards rushing - through the Lewis County game with an average of 8.3 yards per rush. Milan will have to win this one on rushing defense. CPA came the closest to doing that and still lost by 13. It should be a good game.
  9. I was just playing off of your comment. Being "tornadogold" doesn't make it too hard to figure out where you're from, yet you said GO MILAN!!! after your post to me. So I figure I'd return the favor by saying "GO SMITH COUNTY" to you. All in playful fun. My son is a "new kid" to the team, but that's because we moved to Nashville from another part of the state. I'm not aware of any players that were "recruited".
  10. My point was to bring attention to the fact that too many hardcore fans on this thread, and most others, like to throw around championships, and we beat your team last year and in 1993, or we have more fans in the seats, or a stadium with MOJO, or more rabid fans, or more neighborly fans - when most of that just really doensn't matter on the field. Sure teams tend to trend in and out of getting better or worse, but for the most part "history" prior to this year just doesn't matter. Whether Milan has beaten GP last year, or in 1983, or the 55-13 loss last year has no bearing on this year's game because all of the teams are different. GP is a better more mature team because it was a younger team last year. Don't get me wrong, I understand team spirit, but some of these posts are just silly. No one gets to this point by accident. No one gets to 13-0, or 12-1, or 11-2 by accident. Good teams get to this point, and I'm sure the next 3 games are all going to be good ones. GO SMITH COUNTY!!!!!
  11. And what, pray tell, does, does last years game have to do with this year's game - unless all of your seniors failed to graduate and are still on the team. Is that a possibility??
  12. 'We may have"??? on the 18th you said "with the size of milans line and their speed I don't know how goodpasture would be favored...... they are bigger and faster than GP... and yes benji cunningham is THAT fast" Somehow with comments like this its seems hard pressed that you can pass yourself off as a GP fan referring to "we" in your last post. 100 fans at an away game???? What's with that? There here hundreds of GP fans at the CPA game. The visitor bleachers were packed with standing room only all over the place. As for Friday? 140 miles, day after Thanksgiving. It will be interesting to see how many GP fans make the trip, compared to a local game for Milan, they'll be there in droves -no doubt.
  13. You're assuming both Goodpasture and Alcoa are going to win. Polls may be a guide, but there's a reason they play the games on Friday night. Why don't you wait till Saturday morning till you decide how bad Alcoa is going to beat Goodpasture. Both teams have to get through Friday night.
  14. Maybe it was your brain that was slow, and not the GP offense and defense.
  15. Boy you west Tennessee fans are really stuck-up on yourselves. You'd think west Tennesse was the only place that supported their teams. Show some class. Good luck to both teams on Friday.
