  1. Yes, Curt Masters is the one that does the hiring and firing, but it was the BA alum that put the pressure on Masters to make the change. I was told back during Moore's first year that Flatt was at one of the away games and was so upset at the play calling that he had to leave. I am sure it is very hard for a guy that has built a program to turn it over to someone else. That is why it is a good thing that Flatt retired from both HC and AD. Also, BA supporters need to realize that people on the outside of the BA faithful have a total different perception of BA. It is expected that BA alum and parents defend their school. Everyone else does the same thing for their school. Although, I do know some BA grads that do not have good memories during their years there, but this is just like others who have bad memories of their high school days. Good luck finding the right guy. I believe if I were involved in the hiring, I would go with a guy already on staff and is a BA alum. How many of the assistants are grads?
  2. I heard that the UNA kids are starting to take an interest in BGA and that several will attend there next fall. As far as a new coach, BA should hire their Offensive Coordinator, Brad Perry. Seems that the kids like him and I am sure he would have a more wide open offense then Flatt did. With the two wide receivers that they had this year in Kotas and Garrett, one would have thought that both would have had 1,000 yards receiving this year. I still can't figure that one out.
  3. Sure hope that Chris Donald picks the Vols. With Eric Berry added to the list of future Vols, it would be nice to add an instate guy to the mix as well.
  4. I could see how Maryville Alum could give to the atheletic program to help with the facilities, as I know that John Thorton did, but to give to help finance a coaches salary? I don't know about that one. They are a public school, you know. What I see as the real determing factor, would be that BA is a Christian School, where prayer, bible study are part of the daily routine, and Christian classes are taught. It will be interesting to see what happens.
  5. The funny thing is, I had a guy tell me last year that Rankin wanted the BA job more then anything. This guy is a personal friend of Rankin. This sure is going to be an interesting process to watch. I wonder if it will turn out like Alabama's.
  6. When you say Christian education background, do you mean they want someone who went to a Christian school or taught in a Christian school. Also, I heard that the Texas guy was a middle school coach. And from what I understand, he really wanted a high school position at one of the local fedder schools in Texas. If I were in the loop, I would go after Rector or Quarles
  7. I was just wondering how the TSSAA board members were selected? Do they have to be a public or private school educator? Do they serve X number of years. Give me some details.
  8. I ask a friend who was at that BA/Shelbyville game and he said no that it did not happen. He said that if any of the students had said that, everyone of them would have weeks of Saturday school.
  9. If it is true that the AD job is not open, then BA will never get a new head coach that will last.
  10. I'm surprised that Quarles hasn't had offers from some colleges. I sure would go after him.
  11. What was the reason that the DII games were not broadcast on the tube?
  12. I believe that both Maryville and Alcoa are city schools and because of that they can offer tuition to county students. There are only 3 Williamson County schools that are completely open zoned. Brentwood, Page and I think Fairview. A student must provide their own transportation. This is being allowed because of the overcrowded conditions at the other county high schools. And yes, a student can petition the school board to go to another high school in the county. The way they get around this is to request a class that the school that they want to attend offers, but their zoned school does not. I also believe that it is in the works right now for some more rezoning. Glad I'm not on that school board.
  13. I have seen Maryville, Alcoa, Ravenwood, Independance, Franklin, Brentwood Academy and McCallie play this year. DIIAAA had a very down year and the two best teams in that division played for the championship. Middle TN 5A regions are the best in the state, bar none. Several 5A's could have been in the championship but the two that are there have worked their tails off and proven that they belong. Good Luck to both! Alcoa has more "athletes" on the team then anyone in the state. But, Maryville is the best, and this is coming from an unbiased football fan.
  14. Yes, I knew that you were giving an example. I do believe that the toughest region is here locally. It is pretty sad when a team finishes the season 7-3 and can't make it to the playoffs. And then you read that teams with a 2-8 record make it in. The TSSAA need to make some major changes to the playoffs. They need to look at some other states and see how they do their playoff system. I still believe Maryville is the best. I have seen several of the Middle TN 5A's, DII, and several teams from east TN play, including Maryville and Alcoa. Maryville is a very well coached team, very disciplined, very fast and always is reloading not rebuilding. The coach uses a two QB rotation better then anyone that I have ever seen. Like I said in another post, Quarles and Rector are the two best young coaches out there. Maryville and Ravenwood better hope that someone doesn't come along and offer them the big bucks. We all know that there is a certain private school that is looking for a new head coach. They would be smart to contact both these guys after the championship on Saturday. And, I believe they both will win.
  15. I wonder if McCallie wishes now that they didn't defer to the second half? I think that if they had taken the opening kick off there would have been a different champion.
  16. I believe the problem with putting Maryville in region 6 5A or with Rutherford County is that they are located in East TN. I also believe that Maryville is the best in the state regardless of classification. Yes, they do not have the strongest schedule, but do they decide what region they play in, I think not. I have been told that when they do move up to 5A, their competition will not be any better then it is now in 4A. If you have seen them play you would realize that by half time they are already putting in 3rd teamers. How many other coaches can say that. When Maryville played Alcoa, they were without 3 of their players. One of which is a huge part of their offense. And have you ever seen Alcoa. They have more true athletes then any other team in the state.
  17. Didn't Ravenwood beat Smyrna a few weeks ago?
  18. The two best young coaches are Rector and Quarles. I am amazed at what Quarles continues to do at Maryville and what Rector has done in such a short period of time at Ravenwood. It will be interesting to see their records after 30+ years of coaching. Good luck to both in the state championship. The best current old timer is Benny Monroe. Sorry that your team lost tonight, but what a great season.
  19. I am a new member, but have been reading CoachT for a while. I have found the recruiting topics very interesting. We all know how things have been in the Tennessee high school football world for a while now. As I read each new thread, that involves BA, I find that BA supporters have to constantly defend their schools practices of getting new student/atheletes. What we all need to understand is that there was a private/public split 10 years ago and because of it the publics need to leave it at that. Now, with that being said, what does everyone consider "undo influence"? I have yet to figure that one out. Would it be a kid receiving a camp booklet, would it be a kid talking on the phone to a coach, would it be a kid being promised a starting position, etc. Let me know, because I am lost on that one.
