I don't know Coach Simmons but Im sure he is smart enough to play the way the talent dictates. He isn't going to play the same style he played at USJ. If he does then he deserves to be fired. However, HE WON"T. He has been around long enough to know better.

Very questionable hire by Haywood here. He did some good things at USJ but it's rumors of some behind the scenes stuff there that took place, also how is his style of play (cutting, running set plays) gonna mesh with a team that knows only one way to play. I hope it works or he's gonna be hired to be fired in a year.

Questionable indeed. Was at 4 schools in Florida and was gone in a year in each. At Poinciana outside Orlando and left to teach in the Florida Virtual School program. Lots of baggage with this guy.

    yeah. Region 8.

I mean the entire state AAA will open up for someone else to have a chance

Someone else will emerge in Memphis...my guess Southwind will be back in the top spot and Ridgeway even though Henning should have been fired long ago for his fraudish shenanigans.

Hard pass on Matta. I'm not even sure why he's getting serious consideration at Ole Miss and Georgia. He's a solid coach, but he's had some major health concerns the past few years, which had a lot to do with his decline (and ultimate departure) at Ohio State.

Maybe but Matta is a proven coach...Hardaway isn't.

How is screaming into the student section not winning with class??? How is that comparable to a student section screaming “Levy sucks”?

You didn't read my post...I said both were bad and I complimented her on her performance and wished her luck. I know Baxter very well and I am sure they are not accustomed to that kind of display. It's just not that kind of community.

  5. I just don't get into the girls game but watched anyhow because of the passion shown by both fan bases. With that said McWilliams is not someone you would want your daughter to play for but if I was into women coaching boys teams I think she could do it. The "you suck" chant was embarrassing as was this Levy girl's "primal" scream at the end of the game. She seems like a nice kid and plays hard...just win with class. Good luck to her at WKU.

  6. Folks,

Out of state coach from the northeast part of the country here. Tired of northeast winters and looking for making a change and looking for area in country to relocate to. Nashville keeps popping up. Would love to live in the city or close by. Any coaching openings currently there that would fit the bill? Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Just a helpful hint. Nashville or surrounding areas would be more open to someone from a liberal area that you are obviously from. Some of these more rural towns won't be as open to you. I'm not being a smart aleck just stating the truth.

  7. It is what it is...if you win the last game of the season, you either were crowned state champion or you weren't very good at all. Being a district, regional, or "sub state" champion is an accomplishment to be proud of, but in the grand scheme it's just a step toward the ultimate goal. The progression actually works. There's no way to ensure that the eight that go to Murfreesboro are the best eight in the state, or that the best team wins the gold ball, but the process actually allows each team an "equal" opportunity.

Maybe that is what I am really trying to say...the 8 teams that make it to the Boro aren't necessarily the best teams.

  8. Agreed 16 per class/48 total teams isnt feasible at MTSU. It would take a full week just to complete one class instead of 4 days. The schools and state wouldn't allow for that much time to be missed of class or be willing to add that much time to the end of the school year just for sports. As the days from the state tournament have to be made up and snow days etc can't replace them.

Maybe if they made each class at a different location and run them concurrent then maybe but that isn't going to happen.

That is the idea...hold it at different venues. I know it is far fetched but I just don't like the "sub state" tag...it is the first round of the state. TBCH I am not a fan of the state setup in the first place...never have been. I also think district tournaments are a joke...they should have been done away with long ago.

  9. Sorry. What? Watertown academics best in the county? Please go review the states website reported academics and ACT scores. The claim you made as best in the county is not what the state website shows. As much as I like Watertown, and might even have my youngest attend WHS someday, the academics are not a reason to transfer there from other county schools.

Good luck to Lebanon! Lots of $$$ in that community that could hep the program. Maybe this will help free some of it up?

What money there is in Lebanon won't be wasted on the high school...or it's football program.

  10. Here are some things that I heard

    - Between 70-80 applied for the position. They were still doing interviews so others might have applied after that point.

    - That 10 of them had head coaching experience in high school and the rest either were assistant coaches or junior high coaches. That most of them were assistant coaches.

    - That they had people from all over the place apply for the position. Some from other states. Some from Memphis and Knoxville areas. Obviously most were from the middle Tennessee area.

I was curious. Lebanon got a good one but I just wondered if they had many out of state applicants.
