  1. I agree I'm close with two of the players and if any of you Aville fans could hear the language your kids were using the other night you'd be embarrassed more than likely, they said things that should never of been said and the officials must have not their hearing aids in or something, the boys told me it was the dirtiest playing team they had seen all year as in what they called some of our Black players and how they were "helping up" our QB

my opinion of Peabody is quickly changing because of these two, guys its football I got new for you, trash is talked, people get hit early, people get hit late, people cuss, oh no, yes its true, you guys must never have played because its war when the ball is snapped and war is ugly, but aftr the whistle blows its over and a good player will help you up......just to knock you down again! its the name of the game. I have seen nothing but graciousness and congratulations and praise towards Peabody and what does aville get in return? accusations of dirty play and shame for saying that aville might win in a rematch. we've all wished you luck for next week but be aware, you will get tackled and you will get trash talked and if marion county coach is smart he will try to hit qb early and often.

  2. still plenty of talent in the cupboard. I sincerely believe this class done a lot to build up those behind them. I see a very talented qb, a two headed rb monster, a complete line minus te coming back, and most of the defense. will miss playmaking ability of #17 on both sides of ball but someone or maybe multiple will step up and fill that role. remember when peyton manning graduated from Tennessee, a lot of people thought the end was nigh, and what happens next, they get it done in 98 with a few different pieces and players who stepped up. I can see this happening for aville next year. I would love to see an uptempo style implemented, no huddle w hand signals or bands, not to be used exclusively but as a weapon when needed. Peabody is going to 1a, tca will be down somewhat we hope, huntingdon will be good if they are staying in 2a, its wide open again and I like our chances to finish business in the playoffs in 2015. could be wrong but its fun to speculate.

  3. I'm a stang fan but saw both games vs tca and aville and trenton win was Not lucy; they won out right and no you wouldnt beat them 5 times out of ten, you aville fans lost and you still puffing your chest boasting. I've not seen the speed and athLetic ability of trenton, outside of Alcoa every year and the dominant group of last two years UC. Trenton only issue is turnovers which has been limited in the playoffs. Trenton Coach is top notch, should be coach of year, I've witnessed 3, 2nd half adjusments-dominations, hunt, tca, and aville. Aville was classless with the obvious bounty out on #7 head. Should have ejected three diff aville players. This is high-school kids, no big tuition paid for no payroll. Just kids and that was embarrassing for any level football. And yes that was the most awesome kick return I've seen at any level. Good luck and pray for injury free tide win representing west tenn.

This is a joke of a post. Bounty?? Ejections for tackling? Lol. Aville got after the qb and did a pretty descent job of containment, sure he got his yards but his arm hurt us as much or more than his feet. This is football, number 7 I am sure is not used to getting hit, no apologies for playing physical. I guarantee you Peabody plays Aville again they lose, play tca again they lose. Enjoy your ride while it's still rolling, nobody bashing Peabody, hitting qb is a good game plan for anyone in any level. I can see where 7 would be unstoppable in flag football. As for adjustments at half, I am not following that line of thinking. Aville only had one drive into the wind out of two qtrs that worked. Trenton played good d on that end of field, forced punts and scored. If Aville doesn't fumble outcome is prob different if they took most time off clock. It was looking like before turnover whoever had ball last would win. Oh well, back to the drawing board and into cville for y'all.

no doubt that TCA and Aville are good teams, but I believe you're wrong about the best team not winning, TCA at no times ever showed a threat of stopping Peabodys run game, peabody had 450 yards rushing that game, and in the Aville game it came down to the skill people, Peabody came out at half and made adjustments they were missing one of their best offensive/defensive linemen for the final 3 quarters in #55, after half they made the needed adjustments and Peabodys offensive line gave the time malone needed to orchestrate a second half comeback, and that's what good teams do they go in and make adjustments and play their hardest, it seemed to me Aville played satisfied in the second half thinking Peabody was going to give the game to them, but that was not the case, Peabody did what good football teams do they came out and competed and Aville didn't do that, you can measure size and speed and strength but you can't measure heart and that's what separates the good from the great teams and Aville just didn't play with any heart[/quote

I was at the game and I'm unbiased. Adamsville played with a lot of heart. They never gave up. No way you can say that. As big a rival as they are we always know they play with heart.

Defiantly was not lack of heart not did Aville let up and cruise, we could not move the ball going into the wind except on the one deep ball to Burcham early in 3rd and that caught everyone a little off guard that we would attempt the deep ball into the wind. Just couldn't put a drive together going that direction in 1st or 3rd qtrs. top to bottom tca and Aville more talented and more polished, more experienced...what's that get us? More shopping time for Xmas I guess cause peabodys still playing.

  5. 2 plays defined the game as they often do, the kickoff return for Peabody and the fumble for Aville driving for lead late. Rb was carrying the ball haphazardly all night and in wrong hand, it caught up to him. Congrats to Peabody on the win. Back and forth all night. 3-0, 6-0, 6-3, 6-10, 6-17, 6-24, 12-24, 14-24, 21-24, 28-24, 28-31, 35-31, 42-31. It was fun to watch. Qb running didn't seem to hurt as much as a few big pass plays did. Qb is as shifty as they come and has a great arm. Everyone remembers how Memphis Bball tigers lost NCAA after being up by 7 with 1 minute and change left on clock. I had to go back and watch espn classic to see exactly what went wrong, it was several little things, as was the case last night with Aville up 24-6. Move the sticks a couple times and things are different. Alas, we lost and gave up 42 points whether it was mistakes or special teams, or fumbles, good teams just can't do that. I say this with respect to those programs mentioned, I don't believe the best team won last night, nor do I believe the best team won two weeks ago in round two (tca). However the team that played best won each time (Peabody). Tca and Aville were loaded with I believe more talent and were better teams as a whole, however they got beat by Peabody who played a little better with what they had each night. To me the state rankings were right. 1. Tca 2. Adamsville 3. Peabody. Tca could very well have won gold with a slightly modified game plan. I would have liked to seen them run on 1st and 2nd down and have an automatic 3rd down passing machine and run clock and keep ball away from offenses like peabodys. But they would if had to disregard passing achievements. 2. Aville could have won it if they don't make little mistakes that add up to big things. Transversely, a faster paced more uptempo offense could have served the cards well from time to time. Peabody has been a good team all year and has played fearless in the playoffs and not made the little mistakes. Any of the three would have represented the west well maybe Peabody can show everyone the gap is finally closed between east and west. Good luck to them.

  6.

The truth hurts. Facts do not lie.[/

Worry about mowing your field and putting your best foot forward instead of showing your a&$ in the county rivalry game, sure lost a lot of potential athletes that night with actions, the score, and the deplorable conditions. This is a championship caliber thread you don't belong, be gone!

  7. In regards to the game, it is my firm belief that the state championship game is being played in Trenton this week. One factor that I think will be most important and one that has not been talked about yet is that the Adamsville players have been in this type of game situation before. No Trenton player has ever played in a state semi final. There is something to be said for that one bit of experience.

Defensively, I am going to give the edge to Trenton. The pass defense of the Golden Tide is very good. It was the best that I saw all season long. They all have good instincts, great speed, and they are in the right place at the right time for the most part. Very athletic line backers and a solid D line that will put enormous amounts of pressure on the larger and slower O line of Adamsville.

On offense, the WR's as a unit are the fastest in West Tennessee. The QB does not have to be precise with his passes. All he has to do is get the ball to the WR and they can have you picking up your jock in an instant.

While I think that Trenton has the better RB, Adamsville has much more depth at that position. I agree that Ross Burcham is a difference making playmaker. I just don't see Trenton letting him get an opportunity to burn them with a KO return. Trenton will either kick away from him or pooch kick it and force Adamsville to fair catch even though they might be sacrificing some yardage. I also think that the DB's for Trenton will neutralize Burcham as a WR.

If Adamsville is to win, their offensive line will have to step up its play. If they can handle the quickness of the Trenton D line and LB's, I can see Adamsville winning in a grind it out type of style. If Adamsville has trouble with the defensive speed, it could be a tough night for The Ville. Defensively, Adamville will have to find a way to contain the freakish speed that is Trenton football. Don't forget, size wise, Trenton can match up pretty well with Adamsville.

I am leaning towards Trenton and their overall speed in this game. However, it is Adamsville who has the intangibles on their side in this game.

Like I said earlier, it is my firm belief that the state championship game is being played this weekend in Trenton.

Good post, we like to grit and grind! We are a blue collar team and experience should help, will be close either way, mistakes and turnovers will make the difference.

  8. aville was firing off the ball from both 3 and 4 point stances trying to get a hand on the runner who had blockers out in front. that resulted in a few riverside players getting banged up during a few plays. idk if you call it a wing t hybrid or what riverside was running but the way the stop it is to get low and cut out the blockers legs and let linebackers clean up. all of which is legal and all of which worked. if they (rs) doesn't like it they should consider changing offensive schemes because to defend it properly that's what you do.

  9. Not just if your dad runs old coach out of town so son can play preferred position. Come one come all to Aville where you will be cared for and respected. Young people flock to excellence and a place where they are cared for and can be cultivated into young men who become productive members of society.

  10. Could have fooled us. Let's see you played Mckenzie (2a) in preseason. Kossuth (small mississippi school). Scott's hill 2a beat u in jamboree. Lost to riverside 2a Aville 2a Jackson Christian 2a. Dang y'all do play some tough teams for a 4a school. So much so that you would have been in next to last place in district 15a or maybe last depending on if you could handle Middleton or not. Let's get real here. You guys beat fayette ware who hasn't won a game in almost a decade. You beat a 1-9 Jackson south side team and a 0-6 bolivar team. 3 wins to teams with a combined winning percentage of .080 (that is horrible). Aville plays anyone who can play not just if y

cardfan, did you read the news today? McNairy Central requested to play in a tougher region. The Bobcats are not the team trying to pull out of the county rivalry. Our actions speak for us. Our team wants to play a tough schedule.

  11. Na na na na hey hey hey is now un classy? What? Pitiful accusation. Can someone please post stats from this game? I'd like to see the run vs pass ratio between the two teams. Congrats to tca on a good season and qb for record. There will always be that argument that running more would wear down defenses and keep opponents offense off the field more and scores lower. But then you wouldn't get passing records and all that. What was Peabody run/ pass ratio??

  12. Aville got same penalty (sideline warning).

2nd Q. Riverside down 7 - 0, on offense, with the ball on Adamsville's 1 yard line. Refs call a side line warning 5 yd. penalty on Riverside for coaches being out of the box. Riverside goes for 20 yard field goal and gets a 5 yard delay of game penalty. 25 yard field goal blocked and returned for a TD by Cards. Riverside down two TD's. Now boys, what ref would do that to a team that is already a heavy dog? Adamsville has some home cooking tonight.

  13. 6 td's no extra points, idk if u seen mchs kick extra points, not a sure thing and they had not scored offensive td so only one attempt on one defensive score of the year up to this point.

Could also be 3 td with 3 2pt conversions (24 pts) and two td no extra point or 2 point conv. (12)

    36 is easy to score

I don't disagree with the pick but I am curious to know how you think they will get 36 pts! Ex: 5 TD's, no point afters and 2 FG's.

  14. Fayette ware I have always said would be a great destination for a coach. Always look to be loaded with potential. Just need a good staff and what I hear this year is different, with a good staff. They looked very good at jamboree and I think they will win tonight 36-24.

Fayette-Ware has high expectations and we are working hard! It is hard to pick us when our record doesn't reflect our work...

  15. this is a good post but I believe the series should end, not forever but for a couple years anyway. people in selmer will always complain but would complain less if aville wasn't on schedule. there is no recruiting going on just informed decisions being made by parents and kids who can look with their own eyes (like fri night) and make a decision. the ref was not wrong on that play fri night either. it was the correct call of an incomplete pass, know your football. also cc is a very good up and coming program in 4a and it is fun to play them every year. some examples of why series should end: dad radio announcer accuses aville of running up score at 36-0 in 3rd. when as recently as 2000 score was 62-0 mchs, yeah that's running up score. scoreboard time mysteriously stops working in late 3rd, and I know mercy rule may have been in effect but game was over supper fast after that. fans on home side heckling aville coaches in press box escorted out of game. coach goes ape $&%* in first qtr. setting tone for everyone to act that way which leads to mchs player being ejected later. I think aville is tired of the drama and seriously need to be challenged more than they have been the last few years during this window of opportunity for aville. also announcer refused to announce aville players names bc several of them freely chose aville over mchs. its just that entitlement attitude that is fun to put in their place but not fun to deal with 365 days of the year.

A few thoughts after reading this thread...

Can someone explain why discontinuing this series is a good idea? Adamsville took beatings for 20+ years from the Bobcats. Did people in Selmer really think that they would dominate (look at the scores, they not only won they dominated) forever? Sports change. Coaches come and go, players graduate, and eventually things shift. Eventually, the tides will turn back in McNairy's favor. I really hope people from Adamsville aren't ignorant enough to think that the tides have turned forever in this series. I have heard people on both sides say that Adamsville-McNairy isn't even a rivalry anymore because Adamsville has dominated in the past few years. They weren't screaming that when McNairy was dominating. That's absolutely insane. That crowd doesn't show up if they "aren't rivals" and the emotion you saw doesn't come out if "they aren't rivals". That's like saying Tennessee-Florida or Tennessee-Alabama aren't rivals because Tennessee hasn't been competitive in recent history in those series. In my opinion, everyone in the situation needs to step back and chill out. People in Adamsville need to soak up what this program has accomplished in recent years and enjoy it while it's happening, because it won't last forever. Quit being so sensitive about people screaming that Adamsville recruits... This is an open enrollment county. That's the bottom line, kids can go where they want. People who support McNairy need to step back from crying about "recruiting" and what Adamsville is doing and support their kids and coaching staff. Rome wasn't built in a day, it took time to get the ball rolling for Coach Gray and his staff in Adamsville. I do believe Coach Hodge, IF given time, with his energy and enthusiasm will build McNairy back into a competitive program. I do believe with his comments in his introduction, he has set himself up on a pedastal for people to expect an instant turnaround and I did not like his actions at all on Friday night. Call it what you want, it was an extremely selfish move to be ejected. He has put his entire staff and team in a bind now because he couldn't control his emotions. A head coach cannot act this way, period. I would say the same if it was Coach Gray. The first 15 yard penalty should have been the end of it, let the official know he messed up and move on. I give a lot of credit to officials, there are many who give their best effort. But, they're human and they'll miss a call (some more than others and some way more than others). But that's the game. If you are mentally weak enough to let a bad call phase you enough to be ejected, as a HEAD COACH, how will your team respond? I think there's a reason that we saw the momentum shift for good in that game and McNairy rolled over. They aren't mentally tough enough right now and that starts at the top. With that said, I wish Coach Hodge the best at McNairy. I do believe he is giving a solid effort to turn the program around and if he is given time and continues to put in the energy and effort he has brought into this thing, it will turn around. This county has the athletes to have two quality football programs to support in the fall. Ending this series would be an absolute shame and will not fix anything. People will still complain on both sides about the same things, because the two will still have to exist in the same county. The fact of the matter is, everyone in the situation needs to step back and worry about their own program. Enjoy the ride if you're in Adamsville and start supporting Coach Hodge in Selmer rebuilding McNairy.

  16. I'm just saying that if it were my kid I would rather him play for a quality 4A or 5A school rather than a 1A or 2A school! CCHS is building a program at the 4A level!!!

hard to build a quality 4a program when u are continually beaten or taken to the wire by 2a schools. next year cc and mchs should combine and make an 8a squad maybe then yall can beat aville and get some closure. idk though would prob be a close game, could go either way.

  17.

Sound like a Adamsville recruiter. Typical.

Adamsville is wanting to end the series because they know their run is about to an end. The recruiting is about to be stopped and they will have to survive on Adamsville players and not cherry-picking the best junior high players in the county.

I do know the coach was ejected while talking to his players. The officials blew the call, then compounded their error with two more mistakes.

Adamsville will always have a 'little brother' complex when it comes to MCHS.

Well at least the conversation is started and maybe the truth behind all this can finally come out.  As to address recruiting, having relatives that have been in both county schools athletic programs I can truly say that there isn't a better opportunity for us as a county to show that we have something very special here.  The ability to put on such an event and have it be a positive for both schools doesn't come around often and when it does we should embrace that opportunity and use it to not only be examples to students but as how to live in some type of harmony.  The only recruiting that should be done  is for us to try to put on a show of unity....it was United Way night...and try to show people what a great place this could be to start a business or live.  So if you identify me as a recruiter then I guess I am, just hope its on a larger scale than HIGH SCHOOL football.

As for the bad officiating.....there were penalties against both teams, some correct and some incorrect but that's part of the game and you deal with it and move on.  Seems the Adamsville staff handled that a little better.  The biggest think to realize is that the officiating crew will be working this Friday.....Coach Hodge will be suspended.

As for the little brother complex...usually the smaller school does have more to prove, just like the little brother.  After 20 years of slaughter and being non-competitive I can understand why Adamsville is proud of what they have accomplished against big brother.  After 20 yrs. one could expect 1 upset..fluke play or something.  Two years in a row could be considered a "bump" in the road.  When you get to 5 or 6 straight I'd say the tide has turned, so commend Coach Gray and his staff on doing a great job and being a positive reflection on the good things going on in McNairy County.

Just hope that his lesson will go much further than the football field.

    well said longtime fan.

    1 anyone could pull off

2 oops we let it happen again

    3 is a trend

4 oh crap they are for real

5 what is big brother doing wrong

    6 panic panic

  18. typical McNairy answer,

mcnarry you are delusional. aville is on the cusp of gold, that's why the series need to end, because mchs is on the cusp of the other end of the spectrum. new lows set at mchs, worst coaching debut, worst field appearance, the list can go on and on (and given the last two coaches and their results this is hard to do).the field looked horrible because everyone wants to win but no one wants to work. sick of excuses mow and rake the grass. take some pride in what you do. little brother has been spanking that tail for too long aint he big bro? the day of the game the mchs facebook page out out a status reminding fans that it was "only just a game". well someone forgot to tell coach! and to expound on that. the refs did not blow a call...does mcanairy or coaches not study film bc aville has ran that play for over 7 years now. it is a forward pass, it is not a fumble, hence the correct ruling on the field. that's why good teams run plays like that so if you were to drop it its just an incomplete pass. anyone getting tossed over that is pathetic. study film be prepared. aville will be better served playing someone who can challenge them (and who actually mows their field every few days). recruiting, recruiting, the last two coaches were the best recruiters ahs ever had and this one may be even better. anyone who can sit in the stands and say I am glad my son plays for someone who is shouting the f bomb repeatedly and having a meltdown temper tantrum is delusional. why play subpar football and get verbally abused and lose when u can go right down the road and be respected and play at the highest level possible. the kids and parents (those on the fence) in McNairy county aren't dumb, deaf, or blind and their decision just got a lot easier after Friday night.

  19. The Cards have a very good team. I'm a dyed in the wool Bobcats fan, but I have to give credit where credit is due. Great job last night, Coach Gray, staff, and kids!

It is now my hope that the Cards will be playing for a state championship and hopefully the Bobcats can climb out of this hole they've been in for the last few years. Best wishes to all the kids in the county who have worked so hard!

Very nice post. Good news for u is that bobcats are not that bad. They move the ball well just need to finish.

  20. It was clearly a foreward pass on film ! It's disigned that way ! Still no worth showing your arse! Field just looked like it needed water!

Needed consistent mowing. They cut it so low they cut the green tops off of it. Bermuda has to be trained to green up low on stalk. By looks of clippings it was at least 3 inches tall before mowing. Look at Chester co. They like a golf course as well as Aville field have trained theirs on 1 inch or less. Stays green lower on stalk. And it looks like they sprigged their new practice field which looks great overall, but it's too late to sprig, grass won't trail in late sept early oct. All that dirt will wash off, oh well just an opinion.
