  1. I have been looking at projected matchups this season on unapproved website. They use a power rating system that includes current season info and historical data. When you do a projected matchup of opponents, it has been very accurate for the most part. More than anything, it is fun to do the projections and see how true they are each week. Rank by Division for Class 3A on unapproved website shows the following: #3 Camden #28 Stewart County #30 Harpeth #42 Cheatham County #46 Waverly Central Rank by Division for Class 4A on unapproved website shows the following: #8 Creek Wood #48 Montgomery Central The Projected Matchups between teams change each week. The District matchups this week by unapproved website are: Stewart County 28 Montgomery Central 12 Harpeth 35 Cheatham County 12 Camden 40 Waverly Central 0
  2. Papatiger..........very sorry I didn't have the same view you had from the press box.....I guess if I had I would have seen all the Harpeth starters in the game in the end on that 70 yard Waverly TD run....same as you......instead of standing on the Harpeth sidelines next to all the guys who started. Man, what a view you had.......wish I could have been right there with you!
  3. Historically, this is a memorable rivarly and one which should have never been discontinued the last couple of years. With a game like this, there is always so much excitement and adrenaline that you can never really count anybody out because it will be a hard fought contest for both schools. This game is special because it brings some extra elements that the other District games on the schedule don't bring....relationships with close ties to each school. While Harpeth will be the favorite in this one on paper, I know the underdog role by Cheatham can certainly be used to motivate them to play at an exceptionally high level. Intensity will be high on both sides so I think this one could be closer than some might expect. Harpeth got a much needed booster shot with their win over Waverly on Friday. After a rough first half of the season schedule, it was good to see them play well, and it gives them momentum for the second half of the season. Cheatham Co started off struggling this season, but has made huge strides the past 3 weeks with their win over MC and a close, tough game with Greenbrier. This isn't the same Cub team that started the season, and they are much better now than they were six weeks ago. I wish the best of luck to both teams Friday night.
  4. Sorry to bust your bubble Papatiger...........but there was not a single defensive starter for Harpeth on the field when your Freshmen/JV scored that touchdown. I was standing beside every one of the starters on the sidelines. Nice try!!!
  5. Harpeth's game this week is AT Waverly Central, not at Harpeth. The original schedule that came out had this game listed at Harpeth, but the revised schedule moved the game to Waverly. Harpeth only has 4 home games this year.
  6. CreekWood played well last night and congrats to them on a great effort for homecoming. While the final score would indicate that CW beat Harpeth like a drum, the first 3 quarters and 4 minutes into the 4th quarter, it was still a ballgame at 27-14. The last 8 plus minutes of the game saw Harpeth literally give CreekWood the ball for their final 4 TDs of the night....hence the final of 55-14. The unforced turnovers by Harpeth on the night (4 fumbles and 4 int's I believe) really hurt the Indians and kept them from making a game of it. Hooper and company played well for CreekWood as was expected and they have a nice balance in their offensive attack. I don't see CreekWood losing any games until they face Camden.
  7. KS, all we can do is hope for the best tonight and keep it respectable. I'm giving CreekWood their due as one of the top teams in our District, if not the very top. Good luck to both teams.
  8. McWright is Harpeth's backup QB and took the majority of snaps this week. Horkins is the 3rd QB for Harpeth and got limited work behind McWright.
  9. One thing for certain, CW is not gonna have to slow down Horkins cause Harpeth hasn't been able to get him the ball anyway. In three games, he has 8 catches on maybe 11 or 12 pass attempts. In 2007 he had almost that many catches a game. Harpeth isn't trying to get the ball to him like they once did. This should be a 1000 plus yard season for him, but it's looking like he will be lucky to hit maybe 500 yards (if lucky) which will be his personal worst as a 3 year starter. Where they once called his number every 3rd or 4th play, they are now calling it about every 12th play. Makes a big difference in offensive production when the top playmaker over the past two seasons isn't getting the ball in his hands. Go figure!
  10. The difficult thing for Harpeth is they really do have a good enough nucleus to have a very successful season...........but the things they don't do well have turned into bigger things.........penalties, turnovers, missed tackles, etc. If they could ever find an offensive groove that works best for them, they could move the chains.....score points.....and keep their defense off the field. But there is a lingering doubt that seems to continually hover over this program year after year..........and they haven't been able to get that monkey off their back. One bad flurry of penalties and turnovers brings back the "here we go again" mindset. As a Vandy fan all of my life, I would sit and watch the Dores thru all those 0-10, 1-9, 2-8 seasons. You would watch them play one extraordinary game and get a win.......and just when it looked like they might be turning the corner......it's "here we go again". That same mindset has fallen upon the Harpeth football program and its a difficult thing to overcome. I hope for the sake of the players that they can legitimately turn things around this season. But with CW and Fairview on the horizon, probably the best they can hope for in South Cheatham is 5-5 or their 3rd 4-6 record in three year.
  11. I expect the Harpeth coaches to get a handle on it quickly......clean up the wound with salve or cut it out with a knife. If you have a cancer, you do what you can to get rid of it and move on. Lots of lessons being learned by lots of people. Hope its just a one time deal and it can be put to rest quickly.
  12. Congrats CreekWood on a very impressive win over Fairview and a nice start to your season. I know Friday's game against Harpeth will be tough for the Indians. While the Redhawks appear to be gaining momentum with each game, Harpeth is slipping in the other direction. The game with E Robertson was Harpeth's game to win or lose, and lose they did. They have some re-grouping to do for sure. Having alread played Camden, and after visiting CreekWood this Friday, I will be able to guage which of those two teams is the stronger of the two. As for Cheatham, It's a class team with a class coaching staff......and those guys play hard every week. It's a down year for them, but with only 3 seniors on their squad this year, I look for them to be at the top of the heap next year for sure.
  13. Camden is definitely at the top of the heap..........in our District and elsewhere. Yes, they look the like Lewis County teams of the past couple of years......only bigger. Haven't seen CreekWood, but they may be able to play with Camden......we'll see. I seriously have my doubts that anyone in our District can compete with Camden. They are for real..........big, strong, powerful, and fast. They won't give up yardage on defense against the run, and if you don't get the ball out quick when passing, it's either a sack or an interception. Their defense is in your backfield before you can blink an eye. Their offensive and defensive lines are overpowering. Those guys are huge. I would have to nominate them as contenders for the 3A State title. Harpeth could have had some offensive success had they used a quick hit passing game....hot passes, quick slants, etc. With that ferocious Camden pass rush, you can't wait for receivers to run routes 15 yards downfield and hope the QB has time to let the routes develop. Gotta make it easy on your QB and the quick pass does that. Hopefully, Harpeth learned something from that. Good luck Camden the rest of the way! Harpeth needs to regroup and get prepared for a 2-0 East Robertson team that has some momentum and confidence.
  14. No doubt Camden will be tough........and I hear they are well coached. They remind me a lot of the good Lewis County teams of the last few years. It should be a good ballgame. Good luck to both teams!
  15. This year's Harpeth team is much more than Roark to Horkins. That was Harpeth's MO the last two years, but the running trio of Tice, Patterson, and Seagraves plus the receiving of Foriest, Cox, and Odum make the Indians multi-dimensional. If teams try to isolate and stop one aspect of Harpeth's game, they'll get burned somewhere else. Just ask Hickman County. Its the nature of their team this year and they have several very talented athletes including a line that is very experienced. It ought to be a good matchup for both teams.
  16. We could set up text updates to the phones of some specified folks from each of the teams that have an interest in updates........perhaps at the end of each quarter. Then the specified folks could send updates to some of their own folks at the games. Just a thought.
  17. During the preseason and first game against Hickman County, Harpeth has shown they are no longer a one dimensional football team, and they have many weapons on offense. Case in point.....HC doubled up on Horkins and Foriest breaks for 3 big receptions and the running game was able to to run at will. The Camden game coming up will be a good test for the Indians. An interesting fact......and maybe something positive for Harpeth to build on. The last Harpeth team that opened their season with a win against Hickman County went 10-0 in 97.....and that same team went 4-6 the year before. That certainly is no prediction that this year's team is going 10-0 after beating HC in the opener and going 4-6 last year, but it did make for some interesting conversation in the stands after Friday night's game.
  18. Harpeth had their way with Hickman County defeating the Bulldogs 56-13. Scoring for the Indians was balanced with six different players putting up points: Travis Tice 1 TD, Dalton Patterson 2 TDs, Perry Horkins 2 TDs, Tanner Cox 1 TD, Travis Stanfield 1 TD Andrew McWright 1 TD. Harpeth had well over 300 yards of total offense, probably closer to 350 plus. The elusive Tice had his way with the Bulldogs on the ground. Im guessing he put up 125-140 yards on the ground with Patterson adding another 75 or so. With Horkins drawing double coverage all night, it left speedy Nathan Foriest in single coverage and he filled the bill for the Harpeth receiving corp as he led the Indians in receiving yards with some nice catches. Cox had one 20 plus yarder for a score while Horkins had 3 catches on the night. But the night belonged to Tice as he diced his way for yardage and then some. Besides the nice work by Foriest, the double coverage on Horkins also allowed Tice and Patterson to run at will against the Bulldogs, and they came through with flying colors. Defensively, Harpeth was solid all night except for what appeared to be a Hickman County kneel down with time running out in the 2nd quarter only to hand the ball off and run the length of the field for their first points to close the first half with Harpeth leading 35-7. The third quarter looked like it belonged to the Bulldog offense as they chewed up more than 7 minutes on the clock to score their second TD of the night. But from there, the Indian defense stiffened and Hickman County could only watch as the Harpeth offense continued to dominate. The Indians lost Fullback Dakota Seagraves to a leg injury in the 4th quarter. He was taken to Vanderbilt for xrays so we will find out more in the next day or two about the seriousness of the injury. Another Harpeth player, Jeremiah Griffin, went down with an injury but he is expected to return next week. Lineman Will Bradshaw went out of the game early on with an ankle injury, and Cornerback Josh Dillon also made an early exit with tightness in his thigh. The injuries to Bradshaw and Dillon do not appear to be extensive. KSGoVols can give more details of the game.

  20. Harpeth has the potential to be very good on both sides of the ball this year. In the past few years, they were missing a cylinder or two in one or more parts of their game. The early appraisal on their preseason performance would indicate they are back on all cylinders for the first time in a good number of years. I think we'll know more after the first few games.
  21. District scores: Hickman County 24 Waverly 18 (in Overtime) Stewart County 30 McEwen 7 Dickson County 34 CreekWood 19 Camden 26 McKenzie 24 Smith County 40 Cheatham Co 0 Harpeth won their Jamboree contest over West Creek 14-6. The defense played outstanding except for a sweep by West Creek to the sideline and a missed tackle that forced the runner back across field where he found daylight and scored a big run. The Harpeth D held West Creek to only 3 first downs on the night. There were a couple of QB sacks and a huge 35 yard interception return in the 2nd period by Andrew McWright. Offensively, Harpeth moved quickly on their first possession behind some huge holes and tough running by Dakota Seagraves and Travis Tice. Seagraves had several runs right up the middle for big yardage. QB Jeremy Roark found Perry Horkins for a couple of big passes including a 10 yard TD pass in the first period. Also making big plays for the Indians on offense were a long pass completion to Nathan Foriest, another short pass to Austin Deal, and some nice runs for big gains by big Dalton Patterson. The Indians had a chance to score again late in the 2nd period but a pass from Roark to Horkins just missed the mark as Horkins was approaching the West Creek 10 yard line with wide open space in front of him. Placekicker Owen Canady did his job with 2 extra points. But on the night, I give the credit to the Harpeth D and the O Line for protecting Roark and opening up the holes. A good game for Harpeth as they travel next week to Hickman County for their opener.
  22. Friday night lights has finally arrived! It just doesn't get any better than this. I think District 11AA is in for some good competition this year, and that brings excitement to the stadiums on Friday night. The Harpeth vs West Creek Jamboree game has been moved from Kenwood to Clarksville Northwest......game time at 7pm.
  23. It will be interesting to see how Harpeth fares in Friday's Jamboree against 5A West Creek. From sources who have seen them, they are among the fastest of the Clarksville schools. I believe the Harpeth coaches will use it as a barometer to see where they're at from a competitive standpoint heading into next week. Good luck Indians!
  24. Count on it Papatiger! See you in Week 6.
