  1. So wait, now we need to add a rule to tell the "boarding" schools that they can no longer accept kids from out of state? Yeah, let's do that. Next we they will have to be born in TN to be considered a true TN champion? Then maybe we start checking blood lines, and if your great grandparents didn't live in TN, you shouldn't be able to wrestle in TN.
  2. No Kidding! That was just pitiful. Attack a kid for where his parents decided to send him to school. That is one sour person there!
  3. If that happened, you might not have your chain very long. (just kidding)
  4. That has nothing to do with it. What he did as an 8th grader I did not agree with, but others found funny. What I'm saying is why is this guy bringing this up now? What's the point? It's not like there were things every day in his past that showed this kind of behavior. Remember, this was the actions of 13 year old. If you watched him after his win this year it was a simple show of 5 and that was it. It's called maturity. And I think he showed that.
  5. Why are you so concerned with the past? TJ is one heck of a wrestler, and everything I've seen one heck of a nice kid. Leave the past alone, and celebrate the accomplishments.

    Stalling

The answer to your question is probably "the coach that yelled the loudest". There seems to be one middle TN team that gets the majority of stalling calls in their favor, and it also seems to be the team that the coach is constantly saying something to the ref.

  8. I'm gonna disagree with you on this one. With double elimination now in place, no one got LEFT off the podium. Those that weren't there, didn't earn their way there. I can see the arguement with the past method of elimination, but not with double elimination now in place.

    D1 vs D2

What else are you going to go on? Gut feelings?
  10. I have to say this. That had to be one of the guttiest performances I've seen out of a young man. What a match. Holden did something very few could have. I have watched him since he was in middle school, and the obstacles he has over come in his life would make most give up. He is a total inspiration to those that have watched him, and I know you are proud. No one can ever take anything away from what he accomplished this weekend. Congrats to Holden and your family.

    D1 vs D2

What kills me about this one, and others just like it, is that you are picking kids to win matches that have lost to the other kid, or to one of the other kids that finished below the champ. You really need to go look at some facts before making statments like this. And not sure if Agnew and Colbaugh have wrestled this year, but I have found out that betting against Mr Agnew is never a very smart thing to do. That kid has more heart and drive than most kids I have seen on the mat. He pulled off one heck of a weekend.
  12. DES MOINES, Iowa -- An Iowa high school wrestler who was one of the favorites to win his weight class defaulted on his first-round state tournament match rather than face one of the first girls to ever qualify for the event. Joel Northrup, a home-schooled sophomore who was 35-4 wrestling for Linn-Mar High this season, said in a statement that he doesn't feel it would be right for him to wrestle Cedar Falls freshman Cassy Herkelman. Herkelman, who was 20-13 entering the tournament, and fellow 112-pounder Ottumwa sophomore Megan Black, who was 25-13, made history by being the first girls to qualify for the state tournament. Black was pinned quickly in her opening round match. “ As a matter of conscience and my faith I do not believe that it is appropriate for a boy to engage a girl in this manner. It is unfortunate that I have been placed in a situation not seen in most other high school sports in Iowa. †-- Joel Northrup "I have a tremendous amount of respect for Cassy and Megan and their accomplishments. However, wrestling is a combat sport and it can get violent at times," wrote Northrup. "As a matter of conscience and my faith I do not believe that it is appropriate for a boy to engage a girl in this manner. It is unfortunate that I have been placed in a situation not seen in most other high school sports in Iowa." There were several thousand fans on hand Thursday at Wells Fargo Arena, but many were watching other matches when the referee raised Herkelman's hand to signal her win. There was a smattering of cheers and boos from the crowd before Herkelman was whisked into the bowels of the arena. Tournament organizers declined to make Herkelman available for questions. Her next match is Friday. In a text message to The Associated Press, her father, Bill Herkelman, said he understands Northrup's decision. "It's nice to get the first win and have her be on the way to the medal round," Bill Herkelman wrote. "I sincerely respect the decision of the Northrup family especially since it was made on the biggest stage in wrestling. I have heard nothing but good things about the Northrup family and hope Joel does very well the remainder of the tourney." Linn-Mar athletics director Scott Mahmens said the school would not penalize Northrup for defaulting. Because he defaulted and didn't forfeit, Northrup is eligible to compete in consolation rounds. Black will also compete in the consolation rounds. Wrestling is hugely popular in Iowa, and this is the first time girls have qualified for the state tournament, which began in 1926. According to the National Federation of State High School Associations, just more than 6,000 girls competed in wrestling in 2009-10 -- compared with nearly 275,000 boys. Though most states require girls to wrestle boys, California, Hawaii and Texas now sponsor girls-only high school wrestling tournaments.
  13. Was that your user name from this board?
  14. yeah, but you forgot to give a few very important facts. Like the fact that he hasn't been on the mat in a long time, and has been injured for most of the year. So I would think that plays a huge part of it.

  16. That's nonsense. No DII school is trying to validate anything. Every school wrestles in the division they are assigned to by the TSSAA. And if you ask me, there were 4 teams in DII that were top quality teams, and only 3 in DI. So no one is trying validate anything. And on top of that, Everyone ended up wrestling everyone for the most part with the exception of one school. Not that I care, wrestle who you want. Win your division and be done with it. But to say that any school needs to validate their championship is just nonsense. EVERY state has seperate divisions, and I don't see any of this nonsense talk on their boards. They wrestle what's in front of them, and move on.
  17. take your own advice then. To further on my point, a good ref shouldn't be noticed nor talked about. If people are unhappy with what they saw, what is wrong with them bringing it up? Maybe someone will take notice and work to improve on it. If you say nothing, you will get nothing.
  18. yeah, it doesn't look pretty. And that's not the warnings that are listed, just the points.
  19. That may have been the only thing you observed, but remember you were on the other mat at the time, and probably weren't watching this particular match all that closely.
  20. yeah, and several of them in that match were just plain terrible. I watched all it, and can't tell you how many mistakes and blown calls were made. It was sad for both teams. The only thing I can say, is that it was equally bad for both teams. But I agree, I think the kids deserved better than that. For example, I counted over 5 illegal starts in a row. Not false starts, but illegal. How hard is that to call? Heck, the action hasn't even started yet. I would say, that for the most part at least from what I saw, I think the over all group may have been better, but there were some really bad calls in there that over shadow the good work done. Mainly because I beleive when you leave a tournament, the last thing anyone should remember is the officiating, and the good ones you shouldn't remember.
  21. Shut up with that. Rankings are meant to be discussed. Someone puts them out there, and people discuss. Does he nor any of the other people not have the right to disagree? And having 100 sets of rankings in the state is the dumbest thing. So we should have 1 set, and then people disagree with what they want, but just need to have facts on why they disagree.
