  1. Actually one of his parents would have to claim to move in the guest house although it would make for a ready made hotel room when they drove over to watch a match.
  2. Pummelking - If you truely believe that an equally motivated and capable student applying the same amount of effort will obtain an equal education at a public school as they would get at one of the better college prep schools then you are even more confused than I thought. There are no obsticles to overcome at the college prep school, they lay it out on a platter for the taking. That's what the money buys. A motivated capable student can obtain a good education at a public school, they just have to work considerably harder for it.
  3. Young Mr. Murphy could be hosted by a CBHS family and allowed to take up residence in a guest house returning the favor the Murphy's afforded another McCallie student. If his residence moved from Chattanooga to Memphis, he would not have to sit.
  4. I've read some really uninformed posts from you on this board in the past, but this one takes the cake. Since you are/were an educator, your opinions as spread on this forum reflect some of the obstacles public schools have to overcome compared to the privates although you don't appear to stick at any of the publics schools very long either. Common sense tells us private schools would tend to outperform public schools for no other reason than the private school applicants typically have to pass an entrance test prior to admittance. They can admit whomever they choose regardless of the admittance test but few would contend they reject the top academic applicants over the lower academic applicants. At the more popular privates there are more applicants than openings allowing them to be even more selective. Throw on top of that the privates are not required to address special education needs. If the academic base line level of their students is higher when they enter then the privates would really have to be messing things up to not expose their students to more academically than the neighborhood public school who is charged with educating all children within their zone. The privates also don't have to deal with the same level of misbehavior as the publics. Don't behave to their standards and they kindly show you the door, problem solved. Lost time in the classroom due to the teachers addressing misbehavior is greatly reduced with the time restored to the educating process. The publics don't have the same ability as the courts have determined education to be a "right" not revocable due to bad behavior except in the most extreme cases. The playing field is not level concerning academics. For the sake of the children, I hope you have found another career outside of education.
  5. No need to omit. I'm not part of the Baylor coaching staff, but I have consistently heard the same policy. The high school team brings up middle school wrestlers only when there is no viable high school wrestler in the weight class. Baylor has a seperate practice facility and coaching staff for the lower school students. In Mr Duncan's situation 5 years ago, I recall Baylor had returning state place finishers in his weights of choice so he moved on. If you attend the Baylor upper school you can challenge for the weight class of your choice.
  6. IMHO, all of these guys have a shot. All of them have the tallent, just need to get hot at the right time along with a favorable draw.
  7. Congrats and good luck to TN boys who made it to the big show; 133: Bucky Johnson 141: Cody Cleveland 141: Corey Manson 174: Brandon Wright 184: Jason McCroskey Please add to the list if someone was omitted.
  8. "Who in the workd is "Hicks" Manson" He's one of my all-time favorite TN wrestlers who just qualified for the NCAA tourney! Son of Tim and Virgina Ann Manson, grandson of Dr. Hicks Corey. A fine young man who has perservered through an ACL injury all season yet continues to battle. Congratulations to the entire Manson family...good luck at the NCAA's.
  9. Absolutely! A chance to be trained by 4 of the best coaches in TN. A chance to be part of the most successful program in D2 that just set the state record for most points ever scored in the D2 traditional state tourney. A chance to be part of Baylor's annual state championship teams. A chance to train in the largest practice facility in the southeast (space for 4 mats) that is twice as big as the room at the EBE. A chance to win the varsity position in the weight class of their choice. Sounds like a lot better "deal" to me.
  10. Since the small schools appear to have trouble fielding full squads, shouldn't they reduce the number of weight classes and take more than just the champion from each region? I call BS on smwwrest's claim of not enough excitement in Chattanooga. There was a huge number of local wrestling fans who attended the Chattanooga state tourney each year that are not traveling to the cow palace. Lots of local high school students also attended in Chattanooga. Nashville has not replaced this lost attendance. UTC didn't appreciate what they had in the tourney and deserved to lose it, but the environment of the event suffers at the cow palace. Creating new divisions won't address the fundimentals of the lost excitement of the cow palace.
  11. Och, your sarcasm cuts deep. While I enjoy a spectacle as much as the next guy, how about considering what it means to the participants for the opportunity to demonstrate their hard earned skills in front of the huge enthusiastic crowd that would be in attendance?
  12. My bad on the misunderstanding. The EBE only has a single poster on this board so I would submit that as the reason less comes from their camp. Rarely are there ever any coaches on this forum complaining about other coaches. I'm sure whatever is communicated between these staffs is done so directly. I believe if you took a poll, there would as many wrestling fans in general not affiliated with Bay asking for this match as there are Bay fans and parents asking. Just my impression and I may be wrong. I used "moral or legal" in an attempt to stay away from someone being accused of being "right or wrong" which is where this debate typically goes. While history has a way of repeating itself if we ignore it, most decisions are for future events. Things change. We don't invest based on how a stock performed 10 years ago but rather where we expect it to head in the future. The US is now allies with some countries we battled against in the past. Life would be too easy if the answers to all the questions lay in past events. My interest lies in rewarding the wrestlers whenever possible for the hard work it takes to be successful. Tex - I've enjoyed the debate, best of luck.
  13. I disagree as my impression is more of this discussion comes from the D2 camps then from the bear's camp. I agree with 2blLeg - Bay schedules outstanding competition. One more duel meet against another outstanding program such as the bears validates nothing for Bay. It is your right to disagree just as its the bear's right to schedule whomever they please, I still fail to see the logic involved. The decision is based on past events. That does not make it logical nor does it have to be logical as there is no moral or legal mandate to be 100% logical. Nobody has anything to lose and the WRESTLERS and wrestling fans have a great event to enjoy. It's hard to comprehend what is validated or jepordized by scheduling these duals. The bears and Bay run two of the most successful programs in the southeast graduating numerous fine young men each year along with placing many successful wrestlers at the next level. However they go about it, they're both doing something right.
  14. Yes, they were exciting matches and great experiences for all the wrestlers involved. From my judgement (no actual numbers to substantiate my opinion), the Bay / EBE dual was even louder and better attended and also was a great experience for all the wrestlers involved. No matter which school they attend, all these wrestlers work very hard to have success and I for one think rewarding their hard work with the experience of these type of dual meets is worthy of discussion with no reason I can understand to limit the number of those type of duals. I suspect a Bay / bears dual would easily out-draw any other dual in the state and have the most vocal fans providing a wonderful experience for the wrestlers involved. That's why this topic never goes away as its illogical why these duals continue to not happen.
