  1. Was the coach not an employee of the school? Would he not be considered a representative of the school? Any school public or private should have the right and the obligation to communicate with incoming students to advise them of ALL extracurricular activities that they may be eligible for.
  2. As a parent who signs one of the those enrollment contracts, it clearly states that the document is binding financial contract and that my husband and I are financially responsible for the entire tuition should our child leave the school for ANY reason (our choice, their choice, death etc...). Ten percent of the tuition is required to accompany this contract every spring (approx $1700). I don't know about some, but that is pretty binding to me and my intent to enroll is very clear. IMO, once a signed enrollment contract with deposit is received, that student should be counted as an enrolled student. I believe that TSSAA has a different opinion -- so many days of school attended? Which if that is the case how do freshmen participate in June/July/August with workouts etc...
  3. Well, Coach Potter did leave some in the pipeline when he left for BA! OL/DL should benefit from Josh Bain, Fox, Enderle, Kell, Mattice, Lapihuska to name a few returning upper classmen. Fresh/JV linemen to watch will be Tompkins (my fav), another Okpok, Hunter, Makepeace, LaDouce and Italia. Not sure who will be quarterbacking yet. Top candidate is most likely Johnny Newman. Returning skill positions are Poindexter, Higgins, Fullam, Henderson. Rising fresh/jv include Rush, T. Newman, Watkins, Gaines, Coleman. LB's are numerous -- Goss, Fullam, Kemp, Wells, Bible, Banks..... We don't have spring practice until May and don't expect full turnout as several guys will still be in spring sports. The last schedule I saw was as follows: Aug 17 - Jamboree Aug 24 - @ Marshall County, KY Aug 31 - Franklin Co. Sep 7 - BA Sep 14 - open Sep 21 @ Father Ryan Sep 28 @ Ensworth Oct 5 - @ Baylor Oct 12 - open Oct 19- - Webb Oct 26 - Tyner Nov 2 - MBA I'm sure Coach Whitt will have the boys in shape and ready to play.
  4. Does anyone care to hazard a guess after reading the transcript as to the outcome?
  5. I thought the dead zone was for family vacation time? If you have a coach who is abusing family time, discipline the coach. My child is a 3 sport letterman and we have not had any trouble taking desired vacations or spending quality time together. As a health professional, I question the wisdom of not allowing a "ramping up" period in June for football, so that when practice begins in earnest the boys are more heat prepared. I would hate to see them out there "cold" for more intense training because coaches have a shorter period of time to prepare. Also, our school offers two weeks of summer football day camps for local kids ages 6-12. These camps are staffed by our head football coach overseeing any varsity football player (usually a dozen) who wishes to earn a little pocket money after conditioning. I assume this employment opportunity would also go away! I see more negatives than positives with these proposals!
  6. Do we need the TSSAA to mess up another sport? In my area, the public school teams struggle to find pool time and not one public school has its own facility. We struggle to fund books, much less very expensive aquatic facilities. Our local recreation center pools were even designed to NOT allow competition lengths and capabilities. Swimmers may gravitate to the private schools in order to have water available. I was at the meet this past weekend, it was officiated well by competent individuals. I'm not aware of any major controversies in TISCA. Several public schools did very well (Brentwood and Bearden). Besides, the TSSAA may very well go broke if Brentwood Academy ultimately wins its lawsuit! Swim Fast!
