So your saying that a game where South Pitt could have won 100 - 0 was the state championship? When you look at the other 4 playoff games they played and the only one that could have been that bad was FCS. Trousdale, Gordonsville, and Hampton all stayed close and unlike last night those games weren't over until the 4th quarter. I understand what your saying and there have been some years where the team that loses in the burro is silver, but when the score in the burro is that bad? I don't understand your logic... Either way, #2 don't matter, South Pitt is the unanimous #1 Congrats

Mo Money, i'm not tryin to argue that South Pitt would be able to beat Alcoa. But I stand by what I said that Alcoa toyed with goodpasture, and that South Pitt toyed with McKenzie. I think that South Pitt could have played a better game against Alcoa than Goodpasture did. Thats all i'm trying to claim. And to answer your question, when i saw Alcoa and Marryville play I was struck with a revelation that there was more talent and discipline on the field than on Saturdays at Neyland stadium. Thats what shocked me so much, it wasn't the size of the lineman (not huge), or the speed of the players (who were fast), it was that there was almost no mistakes. No miscues in playcalling. Few penalties. They knew exactly what they were doing on each and every play and they did it without hesitation. I had not seen a high school football team that was so disciplined in every area.

I saw Alcoa play Marryville... Does that count?

You can think what you would like, but watching it on TV up here McKenzie's offense never broke through South Pitt's D. South Pitt put some younger guys in there on Defense and also started calling very conservative defensive calls. Just an oppinion, but if South Pitt had wanted it to be a shutout McKenzie would have taken a goose-egg back to west tennessee. It's so hard to gauge Alcoa from the Goodpasture game. The announcers even said it at one point, it was like Alcoa was a cat and Goodpasture was a mouse. They were toying with them and doing whatever they wanted to. If they wanted to run in the middle they would, run outside they would, throw it deep they would. It is hard to compare Alcoa's performance with South Pitt because South Pitt pretty much did they same thing. I do not know if South Pitt would have beaten Alcoa, but I can say without a doubt they would have given them a better game than Goodpasture did.

Congrats to all the guys wo made all region selection in what I still believe to be the thoughest region in 1A. Someone that I think should get an extra congrats is Lee Maasen from FCS. At the beginging of the year he had no idea if he would even be stepping on the field or not, the starting QB got hurt early and the Sophomore Maasen stepped up big for his team. I did not know if he would be able to get All-region or not this year but I don't know if anyone else deserves it more for their physical abilities as well as his mental toughness.

How else do you think that McKenzie managed to get on the board not just once but three times? South Pitt cleared the bench of everyone that had pads on. Scary thought was just looking at the roster when only half the playmakers had "SR" next to them. There was a whole lot of "Soph" and "JR" out there from the get go. By the end of the game they had the JV and probobly an 8th grader or two in there.

I agree about South Pitt's blocking. The second play from scrimmage the SP fullback wasn't even touched, Blocking got him a seam and as soon as he had a step on those DB's he was gone. Consistently SP's line was opening holes big time. Even on the "bad" run plays South Pitt was still getting tackled by the DB's, I bet the entire linebacking core had less than 15 tackles. As far as McKenzie one of the biggest things they have had all year is a balanced attack, South Pitt jumped out to a 14-0 lead before the coin toss had landed, and I feel like McKenzie may have paniced a little bit. By the time they remembered they even had a Tailback they were down 28 and they had to throw the football. To me this game was going to come down to one simple question, could McKenzie run with South Pitt. The answer was no by the way, no one in 1A even came close to running with South Pitt's speed. Major congrats go out to South Pitt. I was probably one of the biggest doubters and I even teetered on the verge of being a hater but you proved every single critic wrong. No one can really whine about a fumble that would have been the difference between the JV playing time and one more drive by the starters. Especially since SP was already up 21-0 when it happened. The "fumble" was a huge momentum boost, but SP already had all the momentum at the time, Heck until about 5 minutes left in the game when it was McKenzie's starters vs. South Pitt's JV they always had the momentum. All the fumble did was signify the exact moment when the game went from runaway to a blowout.

The final was 49-7 I believe. It was 14-0 when FCS scored to make it 14-7 and it was all downhill from there.

You think? The only team in the east that South Pitt beat this bad was good ole FCS, and even FCS was able to score on them.

Don't speak to soon, it still could be... the only thing keeping South Pitt below 60 in this game is the Mercy rule in the second half.

I would like to take this chance to personal give congrats to the entire South Pitt team, as well as Zonepirate and the coachT posters from South Pitt on the 2007 1A state championship. The TV said South Pitts average margin of victory was 35 points, thats gotta be a state record. Right now McKenzie needs to do something just to avoid this going into the history books. Anyone know the largest margin of victory in a TSSAA championship game?

Well... dang... South Pitt showed up and probobly was a little annoyed that some people still doubted them after they beat Trousdale. Message Sent. South Pitt apparently just beat them like a drum in the pride of the southland band. Keep playing like you did against TC and the way you obviously played against FCS. It is gonna be tough for anyone, and I mean anyone to beat South Pitt if South Pitt plays their game. It looks like the only team that is going to beat South Pitt is South Pitt. Best of luck in the next round wheather it is Gordonsville or Lookout Valley. to FCS you had a solid season. Had some ups and downs this year considering some of the injuries. After that loss to Monterey alot of people left you for dead but you still fought back and claimed a home playoff game. Nothing to hang your heads about in this one, just ran up against a better team. This isn't a knock on South Pitt because by what I was told the score could have been twice as bad, but I feel for the Seniors at FCS. I don't think that anyone anywhere should have their career end under the mercy rule. Thanks to South Pitt, I was told that the dogs were pulled out early and the play calling went to ball control in the second half.

I don't want to say it is over until it is over, but .... this is gonna be tough for FCS to make things interesting again. In all honesty we could be looking at a Mercy rule of FCS in the second round of the playoffs.

End of First quarter South Pitt 14 FCS 0 Somebody called in to a Radio show, said South Pitt scored on their first offensive play, and later in the quarter scored on a 50 something yard pass. Said that with the exception of those two plays the FCS Defense has been playing well but the FCS offense looks rattled and isn't playing well. Don't know how much of the 1st quarter summary is true or not just going by the radio.

Zone, I'll just stop then. CoachT was here for me when I couldn't get high school football out of my head and I needed some people to talk to about it but i've gotten alot better at that. I can go days on end without thinking about it. So i'll just stop. For what it is worth I enjoyed talking to you and others on coacht, i thought up until about 5 minutes ago that the feeling was semi-mutual but apparently not. Thank you for giving me people to talk to when I needed to talk high school football. As far as things go now, I don't need this. I don't need any drama of "the guys on coachT don't like me". Right off the top of my head I can say with little doubt that FCS will have a better match-up to South Pitt's speed. I mean, they aren't going to be running them down from a 10 yard head start or anything, but I must have seen a half dozen white jerseys that were ahead of the runner and then just got left in the dust. FCS will have a better chance with their speed of keeping everything in front of them...

Well just got back and i'm gonna say my piece and head over to the FCS vs. South Pitt board. Trousdale really could have used a passing game, their passing game accounted for zero yards that I remember and two turnovers that I remember. I have no doubt that South Pitt can cover the pass, but they weren't even tested in that area tonight. Trousdale played kinda akward looking in the first half, After halftime they came out and destroyed the third quarter. Running for 4, 5, 3, yards straight up the middle all the way down the field. i think South Pitt only had 5 offensive plays in the third quarter. I would also so that for the first 3 quarters of the game Trousdale was the more physical team. They did a great job with what they had but South Pitt just had to much talent for them. Once those boys got a half step on anyone they weren't going to be caught, tough to beat a team that has more talent. South Pitt had one long run up the middle early, and other than that probobly had less than 40 up the middle. It will be interesting if they ever run into someone that can stop the run to the outside. I'm told tyner did just that so they have already passed that test. They had a nice little Jet play to #21 that they ran twice in 4 plays both of which went for touchdowns. I also think that #21 was the one who got flagged for the unsportsmanlike. If it wasn't him and it was another pirate that doesn't suprise me. Not many of them called but the jawing from South Pitt was all over the place and I must have seen half the team make a big tackle or big run and look at the Trousdale fans and give a half taunt or so. South Pitt is DANG FAST. especially that #5, reminded me of pat white from west virginia. he can cut on a dime and accelerate in half a yard. He gets my vote as a finalist for Mr. Football. Their Defense impressed me, they played well with speed but TC may have pointed out a weakness. South Pitt has alot of small and quick guys, but when TC came out after half they just pounded it. South Pitt encounters a team with a big bruising back then it might be a problem. Kinda like #47 from last years Gville team. The good news for south pitt? FCS doesn't have a big bruising back and #47 from Gville graduated. Overall, it was a pretty clean game. South Pitt got away with one hold i noticed but so did Trousdale. A few false starts but nothing else. I think the game was a blend of both side's oppinions on how the game would be. It wasn't the blowout that some thought it would be, but probobly wasn't as close as some thought it would be. South Pitt played hard and answered when they needed to. Trousdale played just as hard but to me this was a simple case of to much talent. South Pitt just had head and shoulders better talent on the field than Trousdale did. Play of the game: 4th down stop early in the fourth. Took all the momentum from TC and close to sealed the deal. my favorite play of the game: 4th and a few down in south pitt territory TC goes for it. QB gets hit and fumbles the ball, big offensive lineman plucks it out of the air and rumbles forward for 5 yards. I like seeing big men get the ball.

I like my crow served with Barbecue sauce. For the record, I felt that this game all depended on one thing; If watertowns D could contain Chas and Lookout Valley. For the who don't know yet, the answer was no...

No, not proven just yet. The region already has some hardware this year, but out of the four teams we have in the playoffs I think at least one of them is going to get their hands on some more hardware before all is said and done.
