The Columbia central girls in round one of the region 4 regional tournament defeated Smyrna high school to advance to the finals vs. Blackman high. One the boys side, Columbia central defeated defending state champion Smyrna high school with a score of 3849. Aaron davidson shot 298 during the match. They are now facing off against lawrence county high in a rematch of the district 8 championship.

the award is not handed out solely on the basis of successful bowling and it certainly shouldn't be. While their success on the lanes is the most important attribute, academia and community involvement are involved. The award is given based on nomination forms sent in all around the state and a committee decides from there. In the years past, the top seasonal averages in the state on the guys side won the award. If that's not enough, I don't know what is. Both players, myself included, were also successful in the other two categories. The winners of this award, and yes the sophomore last year matt Lyon, deserved what they recieved. They were the most deserving, and based on this thread, you're the only one around who seems to disagree.

These two awards are given for seasonal accomplishments. They are awarded based on how you perform over the course of the season, as well as your academic career and community involvement. They are not based only on the individual tournament. And for that matter, the award is an award issued by the Tn. Bowling proprietors. TBPAA

While I'm not necessarily trying to defend myself, it may have only taken a 3592 to make the state finals my senior year, it was not the case for other matches. In our regional tournament, we shot back to back scores of just shy of 3900, and by the look of the individual statistics, boys bowling averages were much higher than in years past or any year since. The other two matches we bowled in state consisted of 3800+, and we had four bowlers from our team alone average over 210. If you say that bowling was down that year, take this into consideration. In district 8, Jake Flatt averaged 211, was in the top ten averages in the state, and yet failed to make the individual tournament. This season from the same district, 194(or 198?) made the tournament. Like I said, I'm not trying to sound arrogant or anything, but when you focus on only one set, I think you're taking away from what my team accomplished that year. The individual accolades are one thing, but it can definitely be debated the 2008 Columbia Central boys bowling team could have competed with ANY other team to ever bowl in TN high school bowling.

I agree with Kyle. If you're looking for the best bowlers to continue their success, or rather the best bowlers to come out of TN High Schools, it's a toss-up between Daniel and Kyle. My first actual league was when I was 11, the summer before I turned 12...it was a summer league and the first time I had ever bowled...But I started getting coaching right around 8th grade? So when I was 13. I guess I should have quoted the one who asked lol... Michael Poirier

Just wanted to congratulate Stephen on this weekend's performance. You, over the course of the last year from what I have heard, have grown into a great bowler and evidently a good sport at that. For that I applaud you and wish you further success. Congratulations.

It hppened the same way last year. Jake Flatt from Columbia Central averaged 211, ranking him in the top ten in the state, and fifth in district 8, but did not make the tournament. It is not necessarily "fair", but it's how it is done. I understand your complaints, given that Jake had the talent to do some damage in the tourney, but it's the way the rules fall sometimes that make you work harder. Good luck to all of those competing this year, team and individuals!

Not an award for only seniors, it's just determined through your overall work ethic. Be careful though guys in middle TN....I'd say fighting are going to be Brandon, Johnny, and Aaron....Can't leave out Big Money who's averaging mid-high 210's

I haven't had much time to check this site as of late, however this one section caught my attention and as a former student of Mike Ransom, it draws a response from me. I'm not sure if the first post was completely slamming Coach Ransom, however "toofunny", you are completely unaware of anything that goes on in Columbia. Did you happen to notice that in last years season we were playing with two rookies and as far as I'm aware, the line-up this year is filled with first timers? It seems to me that Coach Ransom is doing a very good job of recruiting and promoting the high school teams, even in their times of weakness. The second post by you is completely ignorant. How can you personally say that you do not see work being done by my Coach? You have never sat through a practice with this man. You have probably never had the privilege of learning from him. Given those facts, I can assume you have never seen the work ethic from Ransom. I started bowling when I was 11 years old. Since that time, he has done everything to promote not only my progression as a bowler, but the progression of every youth that has ever walked in the center. He has gone to those bowling to try to get better, and those only there for recreation. He has gone to the schools, to the public, to everyone trying to gain more youth bowlers, however it just does not seem to help in Columbia. The amount of youth bowlers in the city has steadily been declining ever since I have been there. How dare you blame this on the negligence of a man who has done everything to help the youth bowlers of the area? It is about time that you opened up your eyes and realized the reality of the situation. It's not at all negligence by Coach Ransom. This post is delayed, however in my opinion very necessary. Good luck as always to the high school teams across the state and of course to Columbia Central. Keep your eyes peeled in individuals as always to Aaron "Big Money" Davidson.

Hey man, no disrespect taken. You don't have to worry about that on mine, nor my teammate's part. And like you said both teams are state champions and nothing can take away from the undeniable amounts of work that both teams put into their accomplishments. However, I will point out our fifth and sixth bowlers had never picked up a bowling ball prior to the 2007-2008 season, so I applaud them both:)... Congrats to all past/present champs. Columbia Central's team based on statistics, was the better team. AS for the last year, If you look at average per bowler, and per game, the top team in the state was Columbia. However, Hixson won. Nothing can be said to take away from what Hixson did, or rather what Hardin County did to us. Another thing to consider however would be the mid-season match-up between the two teams. Columbia defeated the Hixson boys in that match-up, and based on everything that anyone could look at, would have defeated Hixson in the finals of the 2006-2007 State tournament. However we did not fulfill our ambitions, and luck did not allow us to do so. As I said last year congratulations to Hixson. AS for this years tournament, Big Money's point was as good as you can make them. Statistically, CC's team was the better team, however it is impossible to compare the teams of the past, to those of the present.

Back at it again are we Stephen?

I put my money on aaron "big money" davidson. After his performance in last year's season, averaging 218 for Columbia Central, it's hard not to consider him...plus i'm probably being a little bias. But he is a great talent and proved he could handle the pressure well with an outstanding showing in the state finals versus Hendersonville But of course, you can't count out the Smyrna boys or the upcoming sophomore from soddy

I would personally like to congratulate every body who bowled this year. Not just those who made it to state, but all of those who competed in making high school bowling the sport that it is today. Good luck to every one who still have years to come with high school bowling. Hopefully in the future this blog will be used to congratulate the successes of every team and individuals, and not to insult those who work to achieve that success. Thank you every body who congratulated me and the Columbia Central Boys Bowling team this year. The last four years of my life have been absolutely amazing. Over this time, I have learned exactly what hard work and dedication means through the hands of one of the most deserving and well respected coaches in high school bowling, Mike Ransom. He has made the sport what it is to me, and helped me out so much in my life as a bowler, and as a person in general. It's coaches like him who make the sport and who work hard every day to make sure that our sport progresses. I would just like to thank him, Gary Flatt, Norm Titus, and Randy Cook for everything they have done for me, and for the team, over the last four years.

So once again, here I am attempting to defend myself from someone I personally don't even know. ONCE AGAIN, I'm confused because obviously somebody doesn't have the maturity to think about their words before they say them. It's very clear that the only way to prove anything to anyone, or at least in your eyes, is to trash talk them. Yeah...NO. Some of us are not immature. Some of us have worked hard to show who we are over the last few years. Some of us don't care about the difference in each and every human being on the planet. Just because someone is different, you have to trash talk them? I mean really you are not only disgracing yourself, but your coaches, your teammates, and all the fans who supported you during your seasons. Whatever man. I've worked hard for who I am. I've worked hard to become the best I can be. I'm sick of people trying to degrade someone for their accomplishments. You talk so tough, but I personally think I might join in with Brandon and Kyle during your little "scrimmage". I'm sure they wouldn't find me as degrading when I bowl, and I'm sure they won't insult me because of my appearance. Thanks Kyle for the support man. And good luck Brandon. You're one of the best young talents this state has to offer and you can count on me being there next year to cheer you, and of course Aaron Davidson on. I'm a little confused. I haven't bragged or been cocky at all on this saying I'm better than anyone. Everytime I have posted on here I have wished everyone Good Luck and I hope they do they're best. I don't try to make myself out to be the best in the state nor once have I been cocky about it. So maybe I'm just a little out of the ordinary when I wonder how come I'm being insulted or having comments made about me. But whatever. Everything that needs to be said doesn't need to be put on a website. My 236 average consisted of me bowling at 5 different bowling centers with that average remaining strong at all of them. This included a 299 at a house with only 12 lanes that is not just some "cake-walk" house. It also consisted of me working hard and doing everything I could to be the best I could be. No, I didn't bowl well last year on the sport patterns. I didn't bowl well all state tournament. I'll be the first one to admit it. However, one bad day in my eyes does not signify the character of a good bowler. I don't appreciate being insulted, however I won't insult you back. I feel good about my accomplishments and I hope that in the future, they will speak for themselves. I'm not going to say I'm better than anyone, because I know that anyone can be beaten at any day.
