  1. Sounds good, picking us to win out! We will have to wait on those who attended the game to know about GC. Congratulations on the win, no doubt could have been much worse, shows a lot of class not to run up the score when you have the chance. Tellico is very young and inexperienced, saw that last week. Good luck to the Chargers! GO CHIEFS!
  2. Great post,DD! Actual score, Sequoyah 26 Grundy County 25 ! Congratulations,Chiefs! Wish I could have been there to see it!
  3. Check my score post earlier in this thread, smokey. I really thought MC would score more than that, but I see by the posts they stopped themselves more than anything. You are correct,MC is loaded with talent and I commend coach Derrick on the job he has done so far. I know your toughest games are yet to come, and I wish you luck. As far as the best coach, I think we have the best one,but if we truly support our programs,we each should feel that way. Good luck the rest of the way! GO CHIEFS!
  4. Several youngsters have made an impact this year, but the seniors have stepped up. Overall,I know it is hard to be happy losing, but I can see the progress. One good thing, the kids are still playing hard, practicing hard, and seem to have a good attitude. Each game brings a little more improvement. You are right, they all make mistakes, and getting to the point of limiting them is the goal. I do think some of the youngsters in key positions need to be in there getting experience. I have always thought if you have a freshman who is as good as a jr. or sr. now, play the freshman, because the upside is greater. Just my opinion, mind you. I certainly have no complaints with our seniors, they have left it all on the field. As a matter of fact,I am not disappointed in the kids at all. This year has been a good learning year for all of them. Some have really stepped up as leaders on the field and in the locker room. Go Chiefs!
  5. No way on the team speed. Central as bad as they want it to be. 42-14 maybe?
  6. ND shot themselves in the foot some against Sequoyah. They have an outstanding LB and an improving offense. Central has too many athletes in this one. Central 34 ND 17
  7. Is there a convoy going to East Ridge Friday? I don't know the way,and would like to follow someone if possible. If there is a crew going, let me know where to meet and what time please. Thanks! Good effort against ND that fell just short. Coulda, woulda, shoulda,on to East Ridge. Good luck,Chiefs, keep your head up and the increased effort. No JV game this week,so plenty of prep time for the next one. Hang in there,no one said it would be easy.
  8. Well, heck, why even play any of the games. We could just let you tell us how it's going to be and skip the trips. Just kidding,I enjoy them too much to see that happen. We'll see you week 10. Anything can happen, just look at Michigan-Appy State. Can't take any of them for granted.
  9. Meigs is the last game,ND is next. Thanks for the good wishes,I think.
  10. 5.75 yards per carry is nothing? OKAAAAYYY! If that's your reality,I don't want any. Sequoyah did not play well Friday, they looked flat against a very athletic team, but they are not as good as the teams already played this year. Sweetwater and G-P would both have the weapons to take advantage of Centrals weaknesses, and they do have them. I know that's hard for you to see,but it is true. Was it Loudon who exploited them earlier? I don't think it is unreasonable to think Sequoyah can get their first win Friday night. You want to put them and the coaches down, and I remember why from way earlier in this thread,so save the crying towels for somebody else,it's only wishful thinking on your part. Thanks for your pearls of wisdom, will be looking forward to more. S-K,I do wonder about only 8 carries though. Tried a couple of deep passes that were there, just overthrown. If the timing improves, could cause some thunder Friday night. Anyway, looking forward to Friday nights action, win or lose,I really enjoy high school football on Friday nights. There's just no better time of the year. You Central guys, keep standing by your team and coaches, they're doing a good job,and good luck.
  11. I will repeat what I posted earlier,I am not trying to take anything away from Central. They played a good game and deserved to win. I have not blamed the refs for the loss, just questioned a couple of calls. I know quite well who won, they beat us on the field,no excuses! One point I would like to make. I read the same comment in a post about Central last week, making excuses. That is not my goal. The last time I checked, this board was open to discussion. I enjoy participating in this forum when I get the chance, which doesn't happen often because I "have a life." If that offends you or bugs you,too bad! I payed my money for this priviledge. Again I say, good luck to the Chargers!
  12. Sorry, guys! I'm having trouble sleeping today. A thought from yesterday or maybe the day before. Where was our fullback Friday night? He has been our most consistent runner with more than a 100 yard average after our first 2 games. I believe the paper said he only carried 8 times for 46 yards. With 10 more carries, that's well over 100 again. Was it the early scores, the defensive sets or something else I missed that took him out of the game? I really believed we would pound him at them all night to try to wear them down and control possession. What did I miss?
  13. I didn't mean to slight Central in any way, they have great athletes which I knew going in. They performed the way I am sure you want to see the rest of the season and beyond. I take nothing away from them, they have the potential to be a fantastic team. A couple of the third downs they didn't pick up(they backed up on the play)they picked up on fourth down because of the crucial calls. I don't think it was enough for Sequoyah to win the game,I'm just saying it was closer than the score indicates. I don't think Central pulled anything back on offense. Those youngsters you are talking about were playing well. Have they not been playing all year,or was that just for us? There was a lot of predicting forty point wins the week before the game,I didn't say anything then, because I didn't think it was worth replying to. This game could have easily been 17-7. I know it is what it is,no use in wishful thinking, but I still believe Sequoyah is not that far away. I really don't think anyone expected to win every game, and the first one is coming. Good luck to the Chargers! Go Chiefs!
  14. If we enjoy it,what difference is that to you? Are we using up space someone else could use? I wasn't aware that could happen. The serious part,I thought I would like to join your club. A little rain has never bothered me. If my typing gets us a little rain,I'm all for it. Lord knows we need it.
  15. What was the wrong way you are speaking of? I would really like to know. Is it right that only the head coach can speak to an official? The reason I ask is this, what happens if the head coach has lost his voice? Does no one have a right to question a call then? If no official will give us a break now, then they are wrong and need to get out. There should be no carry-over from one game to the next. Officials cannot take things personally,if they did they would all struggle because they would think they have no friends at all. If personal feelings are in their way, they need to ask to be re-assigned. IT IS STILL A GAME AFTER ALL! If they are unable to be fair to every kid on that field, regardless of who the coach is or what he says, they need to find something else to do with their time on Friday nights(or Saturdays for a particular LL ref) and that is the bottom line.
  16. Did someone ask you to read this thread? Is it offensive to you? If you have a fault with it,just skip right on by. It is a very easy thing to do.
  17. You need to get real. This game was much closer than the score.I am not saying the refs cost this game at all, just don't understand flagging a coach with a legit gripe without a warning. These coaches have not been riding the officials in the games this year, and it is unfair to the coaches and the kids to penalize them without reason or warning. If you think Sequoyah was NEVER a threat, you didn't watch the same game I did. Were you at home listening on the radio?
  18. If that was what they were told, they were told wrong. I think there is probably an attempt to justify going on here. All our coach did was question why the MC QB could go inside the numbers to receive the play call,he was told by the official the head coach was the only one allowed to speak to him,the flag was thrown, and the threat of ejection was tossed out there twice following that. That is the story, any more than that is bunk. We were also flagged for roughing the center, which I have been told we did,but it was missed in the first half on a punt of ours. Same thing,so why not call that? Officials should not be biased in any way or either way. Most of the officials in this game I know well, and I feel they do a good job. No one can see everything, and it is unrealistic to expect that. A couple of them I didn't know, although I had seen them work games before, and feel comfortable they will do their best. I do not officiate because I have a temper, and I won't let stuff go,which is a must. What I am getting at,is before threats of ejection or probation are tossed out there, everything should be looked at and the truth told. If there is more to it than what I have just stated,it must be carry-over from a previous time. Even though the officials wear the stripes, they're not automatically right, and they are only human. The best ones still recognize that.
  19. That's not what that particular official has told others.
  20. I also like to see a coach question something, especially and specifically when he knows what the other team is doing is against the rules. I have never heard before about an assistant coach not being allowed to speak to an official, only the head coach can. Also,if a 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalty is going to be assessed,it is usually after a warning has been issued. If there is no warning, one can only conclude the official just didn't like this particular coaches looks. I bekieve he was upset with good reason, also. I was told over the weekend one particular official made the comment when he saw any of the Sequoyah bunch,he was going to flag them all from here on out. If true,it is really sad when grudges are carried over from one game to the next or year-to-year as I know is the case with one LL official.
  21. Steve was the coach at Madisonville a few years ago, also helped with Sequoyah this spring. We were all hoping to have him this season. With him a very good staff would be excellent. Unfortunately,it was not to be.
  22. On that note, the JV lost to Heritage 14-6 Monday night. The game was close throughout and a hard-hitting affair. Their ability to control possession of the ball limited our offense more than anything. The winning score came with around 4 minutes left in the game. They got good pressure on the QB a lot of the game with different blitzes that seemed to confuse our youngsters and that is something that can be corrected. Defensively, pretty good effort, good hard hitting bunch we've got. They're coming along nicely and the future looks bright after seeing them play together. They play William Blount there Monday night at 5,come check them out.
  23. Right on! Definitely the right direction! TO THE TOP! GO CHIEFS!
