  1. Eric Feuerbacher was impressive with only one close loss, all others in his favor including that rare pin at this level, after his true to form scramble style & scoring 20 pts. Oh Kyle Davis is still leaving craters in the mat & looking like he has yet to leave the mat as a competitor. ;)

Was that a fat joke? It sure sounded like a fat joke.......

  2. *cough*....Junior.....*cough*

also, the 112 match for Blackman, watching it to me looked clearly obvious that he was elbowing the Mt. Juliet kid in the head. I thought to myself while he was doing this, I wonder if the ref is seeing this too, and sure enough 6 seconds later, the ref stops it, and the wrestler is ejected. What really stinks is that potentially lost them the match..well, he'll learn for next year not to put himself into that situation. Regardless of whether or not it was intentional, if he didn't go to his back in the first place, he wouldn't need to argue anything, hopefully he learns from this situation, as well as Mr. Seamon. :thumb:

I usually refrain from commenting on posts regarding officials (seeing that I am one and more specifically the one is question regarding the 112 match between Mt Juliet and Blackman) but I feel inclined to address a few discrepancies made regarding my critics and the unfortunate call that had to be made at the state duals.

    1. A PBD stated we can agree to disagree on the call. Calls are sometimes subjective at best as as posts on this thread have suggested we have just such a difference of opinion.

    2. I never try to make a call about me and offended someone would infer otherwise.

    3. The time in the match the call was made is irrelevant. I was unaware of the time remaining and would have made the call regardless even if I can known.

    4. The assistant referee , head table official ( a TSSAA official) and tournament evaluator all backed my call.

    5. The Blackman wrestler was verbally warned after twice elbowing the Mt Juliet wrestler to stop, that a penalty was incurred and the wrestling would be stopped if he continued to elbow the Mt Juliet wrestler.

    6. As a statement of fact I hate ejecting anyone from a contest and especially in the case with the consequences that occurred as a result of the penalty.

    7. Rocky 11 you need to read the section on Flagrant Misconduct Rule 7-5 "Flagrant Misconduct invlolves any physical or non physical acts and they can occur before, during and after a match and is any act considered by the referee to be serious enough to disqualify a contestant from the match and any additional wrestling in the multiple school event. It is not limited to striking, butting, elbowing, kicking, biting an opponent or using any tobacco products"

  3. TNKO/Animal/Hamm:

    My last name is Davis.

Thanks for the kudos Hamm. Not sure if I am in the class of officials like Jack Faircloth/PA Bowler/Barry Clark etc but I like to think I try to work as hard as any official to make the best calls I possibly can.

  4. Kyle Saunders from Smyrna figures to be in the mix at 160 IMO even though he has lost a 1 point decision to Colbert in the McGavocks finals. Bain from Warren County has a good chance to be in the HWT finals vs. Allen from Mt Juliet (although I do not feel he can beat him)....

  5. Fatty:

There is no procedure for challenging a call because you cannot do it. You can question the application of a rule or check for correct scoring. The referee cannot refuse to come to the table to address a question regarding applciation of a rule as long as there is a break in action to permit such. If a challenge to a call has been made regarding application of the rule and the official has erred then the call can be reversed/changed. If a question of the officials judgement is being made a warning or point deduction for misconduct occurs.

  6. I have a couple of other questions about reffing.

I know in Chattanooga I need to attend the meetings in the fall to get certified. Once I do that, am I good to ref anywhere in Tennessee or just in Chattanooga? And is the certification permanent? I'm wondering because I don't know where I'm going to be living in the fall. Do you know who I need to contact if I were to ref in the Nashville or Williamson County area? That's where I'm likely to be living if I'm not in Chattanooga, or I may be in Alabama. So will I need to get certified in Alabama or will it still count if I do it in Chattanooga?

The other thing I was wondering was about the scheduling. I guess I get assigned to certain meets but is any of it negotiable? Is it pre-assigned at the beginning of the season or is it like a week-by-week thing? If I do stay in Chattanooga I'll be on a very tight schedule with college and my other jobs so my availability is going to be pretty shaky. Is there a way I could give like a week's or two week's notice what my availability will be and work the ref schedule around that, or vice versa?

If you could get back to me that would be great, thanks very much.

You will need to be registered and certified in Alabama to officiate there. As for scheduling that is done on a association basis and you would need to confer with your local associations assigning officer to determine your availablility and schedule with them. Most times they can work with you.

  7. these numbers were much higher than i thought. The mat costing 10k is expected, however, in your original post, you mentioned that it would be about 15k per year. Either that, or i am reading it wrong. i couldnt imagine that it would cost that much each year if the mat is good for up to 10 or so years. This is a program that is a couple years away and i must make sure i have the budget presented. Thanks for all your helps guys.

The 15k cost is initial once you get past the purchase of the mat continual costs will be much less.

  8. Otis, what's your problem? Are you one of those parents that want everyone else to pay for wrestling matches but whine like a little pig when you're asked to anti up? Or, are you one of the losers in the world that make excuses and cry "we got cheated"?

Whatever the case you are way out of bounds. Last time I checked this was the region 7 wrestling tournament not the East Lit Invitational. Oh, it might seem like it since your kid and his teammates spend so much time on their backs at the hands of the East Lit wrestlers, but hey, you should be used to it by now. The officials are not assigned by East Lit. They are randomly selected the arbiter which is an assigning program adopted by the state. I know it would be easier for someone with that loser's mentality to believe otherwise, but hey, it is what it is.

When Coach Whittaker (please learn to spell when you want to rip someone) started the program, he did so at the request of one athlete, Antonio Boyd. Through his hard work, Coach Whittaker has excelled at coaching wrestling, taking East Lit from not having a program to being one of the most respected programs in the state.

The East Lit kids are offered one thing. The opportunity to be successful by working hard. You might not be familiar with this phrase. You get out, what you put in.

I recommend to you an extra diet of hard work but leave the whine alone. You have officially embarrassed yourself.

The officials assigned to a region tournament are not randomly assigned by the Arbiter program. The region's coaches meet and make a list of officials they would like to officiate from all post season eligible officials. Then the area association's assigning official tries to accomodate each region as best as possible. East Lit and all region coaches have an equal opportunity to input on the preferences. FYI

  9. I see how that turns out. The DQ would not allow him to compete in the next competition and that next competition would happen to be regionals. Same things happened to the older Burnley a couple years back if I am not mistaken. Sad to hear was really looking to see him and Soboun in the finals. Anybody have any predictions who would be in the finals with Soboun this year ???

Lowe would only be DQ'd from regionals if he received a flagrant misconduct. 1 unsportsmanlike conduct call will not prevent him from wrestling this weekend. 2 unsportsmanlike calls can get him thrown as well. FYI

  10. I want to add to what Coach Knepper commented. There was some good collegiate wrestling at MTSU this past weekend and it was my pleasure to have been able to help contribute to the tournament. I look forward to MTSU hosting again next year on what is planned as a bigger event. For those that did not attend I recommend that you do so. Comments have been made against the level of wrestling that occurs at this level but I think the results speak of themselves. Several NCWA wrestlers have gone to compete at NCAA Division 1 and lower scholarship levels after having competed at the NCWA level. Teams have also been able the compete with and beat higher levels teams (Div III, NAIA). This level of collegiate wrestling is what helps to grow this sport and support will help decide its fate. Local teams (MTSU, Austin Peay, Vanderbilt, Lee and Tenn. Temple) are helping to builds its base and appeal to local wrestlers looking to compete on the collegiate level in the sport we love!! These young men deserve all the support we can give.

  11. Is Region 6 wrestling their daul on Saturday? I thought all teams were supposed to be done before then? When will the second place team wrestle? Didn't RC get mad because some regions were waiting too late to finish and told everyone to be done by Saturday? Someone please set me straight on this.

Region 6 is the other region that the 2nd place team automatically qualifies for the state duals and has no wrestle off with another region. They received permission to wrestle Saturday due to that fact. regions duals and wrstle offs must be completed by Saturday.

  12. What happened to Mintlow, I was looking forward to big things from him at state. If he is out for the season, that opens up one of those four spots for the state tournament.

He is no longer on the team according to Coach Easley. I will leave it at that and not get into specifics out of respect to Glencliff, Coach Easley and Dosha Mintlow.

  13. Just a prediction

I believe McGavock will be a 3rd seed and if all indications seem correct will give Glencliff and very good run for their money. They have steadily improved over the course of the season. I am not sure they quite have the horses to take Antioch (or will Glencliff for that matter with Mintlow now out for the season). It should be a good match all the way around though.

  14. Just curious. What DII or NAIA schools have lost to club teams? I hope you are wrong about this.

The University of Central Florida (NCWA team) beat DIII teams Lawrence Univ. and The Milw. School of Eng. in December. UCF also wrestled Purdue in Florida on Monday losing 44-9.

The Apprentice School beat DII St Andrew's College in December as well. In November they beat DIII Univ. of Scranton . Apprentice also finished 5th in a field of 10 at the 12/08 Spartan Invitational. They placed ahead ahead of DI teams Delaware St, Liberty Univ. and Liberty Univ.

Marion Militay Institute (NCWA team) beat NAIA Cumberland in a dual in December as well.

NCWA teams regularly compete in open tournaments and have frequently placed wrestlers against DI, DII, DIII and NAIA teams.
