  5. Welcome Clarksville Northwest to the silver division.
  6. Coaches also remember this is the only tournament around that gives back to the girls the profits of this tournament. Over the past few years we have awarded 10 $500 scholarships each year to young ladies whose coaches are members of the MTSCA and who play in this tournament. The MTSCA has awarded over $25,000 over the past 6 years, plus all the other benefits. To be qualified to get one of these scholarships this year, your coach must be a member of the MTSCA, you must be a senior going to the college of your choice, and your team must play in this tournament. Then after the profits are tallied, the MTSCA will draw the names of scholarship winners at their May meeting. Only a few teams left can enter, this is filling up faster that ever before. We have a lot of schools that have played in this tournament in the past and have always waited until late in year to apply, I am afraid by this time next week it will be too late. Thank you, Phil Burkhart, MTSCA President

  17. The MTSCA Classic will be held again this year in Clarksville at Heritage Park on March 25, 26 and 27, 2010. There will be a Gold Division and a Silver Division. We have room for 40 teams again and this tournament usually fills up before the end of October. The tournament sign up form is posted at http://www.MTSCA.org, please click on MTSCA Tournamnet link and click on application in the middle of that page. The cost this year will be for those playing on Thursday and getting a minimum of 6 games $250.00 and those playing Friday and Saturday and getting a minimum of 4 games $200.00. This year the MTSCA Tournament Committee has the option of moving a team to another division if they feel team is too strong for that division. This will keep teams that should be playing in the Gold Division from playing down. This tournament was set up to insure that everyone is able to compete with teams around their same level. For more information please email Phil Burkhart, MTSCA President at phillip.burkhart@cmcss.net.

    Dead period

As I said in my first post. Only the TSSAA can answer these questions but if it was not cleared before hand with the TSSAA, I would not want to be in his shoes. This is a direct violation of the rules and would not be fair to those coaches who have followed the rule to the letter and stayed away. But again, the TSSAA may have allowed it if it was known before the fact. I have known coaches who sent in a letter to have an athletic banquet or a booster club meeting during the dead period and was turned down because that is having contact with the players. The booster club can occur as long as only parents show up and no student athletes. I know that one from a personal level as I was told I could have the booster club meeting but if a player showed up with the parent we would be in violation, so I decided to wait until dead period was over.

    Dead period

This is a question only the TSSAA could answer, but usually the player would not be penalizd but the coach or the school or team. In these situations, usually a coach may be suspended for a few games or for as much as a year. The team or school could be put on probation and not be able to play in post season play. The schools are at the mercy of the TSSAA in these situations and usually it is best if the school report it as soon as they know a rule has been broken and let TSSAA know what punishment the school has imposed on the coach. Most of the time if the TSSAA thinks you have been honest and reported the rule violation and the punishment, they support the school's decision if it is within their guidelines. But this is what I have seen in past, we have a new Leader at TSSAA now, things could change. Again, only the TSSAA can answer for sure in each situation, but maybe this will help

    Dead period

This question has been asked at TSSAA rules meeting and the answer given was, " You can go observe as a parent of a child playing but not have contact with any other players and only observe give no feedback or coaching during the game." If you are not a parent of a girl playing you cannot go and observe if you are a TSSAA coach. You cannot even be in the complex. Silly I know but that is the rule. Sad thing is many volunteer coaches who are working with a team are not understanding this rule and are not being allowed to coach anymore after the rule is broken. But all coaches who take the TSSAA class are made aware of the rule. Go to: http://www.tssaa.org/Handbook/SportsCalendar.htm click at bottom of page on softball link

    Dead period

No, only way to not be affected is if you are not a coach in the high school program. If you are a coach in any way, you can not even attend the games to watch. Much less, coach.
  22. The MTSCA All Star Game is tomorrow June 10th starting at 3 with games at 5 and 7 to follow. Go to www.mtsca.org to get full details with teams and agenda. The games are at Drakes Creek.

    All Star Game

Because there are so few Div. II teams in the MTSCA, they are joined in with the AAA schools. There is some Davidson Academy players on the roster. Because the AAA schools have more members in the MTSCA this is why there is 2 AAA teams and the Div. II players added in with them. A and AA make up another team. The All Star Committee does a great job getting this out, we still just need fans to help their coaches understand how important it is to join this organization. The MTSCA will give away another $5000 in scholarships again this year, over $25,000 over the past few years. Your coach has to be a member and nominate their players. It cost a head coach $25 a year, very reasonable price for all of the perks and awards the girls can get. All Mid State, All Academic, Scholarships, All Star Game, Tn/Ky All Star Game, etc. Come support these girls June 10 at Drakes Creek and again June 25 at MTSU or another Middle Tennessee site.
  24. No, the one that scored the 1 st run, the secound was the slapper who hit it a ton. 2 strikes on batter and everyone thought it was squeeze. But it was a full swing that just dribbled to 3rd and runner was going. At least from where i was in the stands, it looked that way. Not taking anything away from girl from Beech, to win it all you have to be good and have a little luck.
