  1. How do they go about choosing these teams? Do they look at stats or is it simply a popularity deal. I would think you should look only at the 12 distric games each team played to choose these awards.
  2. I wouldn't want to make a prediction on the score but I will say this. It was no fluke that the game at Upperman played out like it did. Upperman has a very underated team. This was the first time LA has faced this group of kids with everyone healthy. There's a reason LA played the way did - Upperman. If the referees call a solid game at LA I believe Upperman will win again. At Upperman I have never seen so many flop attempts by one team ever - Offensively and Defensivly. Dunn dove backwards after missed shot attempts several times and there was not a player within 2 of feet of him. When he makes it inside he does not try to draw a foul but dives directly into the somach / chest of the defender. Several LA players tried to and some did draw charges with almost no contact. Good acting job but just seems like a weak way to play the game. But hey, If you can fool the referees and get away with it / that's part of it. If both teams play thier best I don't believe LA can line up with the size / speed that Upperman has. It will be a great game to watch either way.
  3. Kind of a side note on how different peoples perception of different players are - How in the world do they go about choosing All-Distirct / All - Tournament teams. Evidently it must not be about true stats. My numbers might be a little off but I believe there were 34 players on the All - District List. If there are 7 teams in the district and say around 8 players that actually get much playing time that's 56 kids. That means over 60% of the players made the all distric list. I'm all for the kids getting some recognition, it just seems like it cheapens the whole thing. I believe the coach's award is the same way.
  4. That is a good point. I'm trying to make an all UC team.
  5. What makes Dunn so good in you're eyes. If it's his scoring I agree with you he can score points (with alot of attempts). If that's the criteria for MVP give it to Wright. The Smith kid impresses me more than Dunn.
  6. NASH This kid does alot of good things, not just score points. Rebounds Blocks Steals Shooting Percentage Assists Isn't he somewhere around 20 points and 10 rebounds average for the year? Not Bad
  7. Speaking of the whistles, I haven't seen anyone say a word about the referees. In my opinion they are the ones to blame in this whole thing. Both the boys and girls games were totally out of control. If they would have done their job and kept the game under control I don't think it would have ever escalated to this. The referees that I have seen in this area horrible. The one referee stopped play in the middle of a fast break, threw a spectator out and just resumed play from there. I know their just trying to make a little extra $$ on the side but I wish we could get some decent referees
  8. I know it's probably hard to stay motivated after years doing the same old job. Everybody gets tired of thier job after a while no matter what you are doing. I just think coaching is different. To do it right you have to be dedicated , excited, driven, etc. about what you're doing all the time. These kids have a small period of time to do whatever thier going to do. The daily effort / teaching skills / no fun / grind stuff / time, he just isn't doing. He has a terrible attitude but I could look over that if he was helping kids get to the next level - for education / basketball or any other reason. They ought to have a player or two every year going somewhere / anywhere. Isn't that what the ultimate goal of a high school coach should be?
  9. Another note : I may be wrong but I heard Melton was let go earlier this year @ Livingston because of some political crap and the players raised cain until they got him back. If that happened @ UHS BM would be unemployed. That just tells me Melton is doing the right things.
  10. Not an issue whatsoever about a child of mine. I hear alot of people say good things about him, that's what baffles me. I understand when people only read newspaper clippings or word of mouth (not saying that is what you have done) that is the only thing they have to base thier opinion on. I have talked to many of his good and bad players and not a single one has anything good to say about him. Not that you should always love you're coach if he's doing the right things but at least respect something about him. As far as the attitudes, that is a direct reflection of the coach. He is or should be in control. He's not the only poor coach around. Coaches can coast thru and have decent seasons there and will have a job as long as they want. I just believe it cheats the kids who could do something more with whatever sport they play.
  11. Everyone talks so much about what talent is where. There is talent everywhere. In my opinion high school athletics is about work and coaching. UHS has neither. I have watched kids play for McWilliams for 4-5 years and not even understand the fundamentals of basketball. That is pathetic. There has been and is good talent at UHS who could have moved on to play somewhere. I just don't think he cares. It would take to much effort. Maybe he will get a little more enthused when his 4 boys are playing / at age 19 after our tax money has payed for them to be held back 2 times each. As far as Dunn goes, he is a good player but if UHS would learn to play defense and have a plan to keep him off the free throw line it would be a good game. He is very small to be an outstanding player. I hope not but I believe Livingston will win. They have worked harder over the summer and are no doubt coached better.
