Add Hendersoinville to that list of teams.

ok, those are three programs that have been developing quality wrestlers for some time now. I would also add Tullahoma, Hendersonville and Nashville Catholic to the list of youth clubs that have been around for awhile, helping to promote wrestling in their respective areas. I would add a couple of up and coming programs to the list, Mt. Juliet Bears and the Clarksville area (i think there are 2 kids programs now there). I think each program has done a lot to promote wrestling and to increase the level of competitiveness of the high school programs in Middle Tennessee.

ok, I've been reading this post for awhile, and I had the opportunity to talk to a few folks this past weekend about this idea, so let me throw my 2 cents into this discussion. The only real issue that exists, from TSSAA's perspective is this: $$$$$$$$$ Find a way to run a double elimination tournament without it costing TSSAA any additional money then you might have their attention and find the Board of Control more receptive. We know that we can find the time in the current way the tournament is run to fit in the additonal matches. An additional 210 matches which would add approximately 4 to 4.5 hours to the total tournament time has been shown to be able to work. But where does the money come from to pay the Ref's and the Trainers for their time. Let me throw out a suggestion. there were 104 schools participating in the D1 tournament this past weekend, if each coach were asked if they would be willing to pay an additional $50 to $100 to TSSAA specifically to be able to have a double elimination tournament, what do you think the response rate would be?? I would guess that we would have enough additional funds to cover the additional costs that TSSAA would incur for a double elimination tournament. And while I'm on the idea of increasing the revenues that this tournament draws, how about adding a few more vendors in the arena. Example: if you're going to confiscate all the food and gatorade/powerade that the wrestlers are bringing into the arena, then have someone selling those items in the arena. There was no vendor selling power bars/powerade/health food anywhere in that arena. Here we are trying to get kids to eat healthy all year, (promoting safe weight loss and healthful living styles) and we come to the biggest tournament of the year and we have NO healthy food ANYWHERE IN THE BUILDING!!!! HOW STUPID IS THAT!!!! And while we're at it, bring vendors in that sell wrestling equipment: singlets, shoes, workout gear; and how about some other vendors that those of us who go to national tournaments know will be at every national tournament that exists. These folks pay a fee to set up at a tournament, so why don't we MARKET this tournament like other big tournaments do. If TSSAA needs to see more revenues, surely we can come up with ideas to increase the revenues for the state tournament.

Hey Jeff, just wanted to let you know that Josh and your family are in our thoughts here in H'ville. It seems like he just has things happen to him, I hope things go well and he's back on his feet and ready to go soon. I'd love to see him tear it up in Feb.

In high school there are very specific weight classes that start at 103 then go to 112 to 119 and so on. In your son's case, based on his weight certification being at 186, the lowest weight class that he could wrestle at is 189. He can also wrestle at 215, which is the next weight class up, or he could wrestle at 285 (Heavyweight). By the way the 186 weight represents the lowest weight your son can drop to and still have a body fat index of 7%. He cannot drop below that weight, and cannot wrestle in the next weight class down which is 171. I hope that helps you some.

"Lucas" let me clarify a couple things for you, 1. Brett Jaeckel and Cameron Croy have Never wrestled each other, except maybe when they were in 2nd grade!!! 2. when you went to Illinois with us Brett was a 170 lb. 7th grader who was wrestling up a weight class and then proceeded to get hurt, which is why he had to quit wrestling for the weekend. By the way, whereever Cameron decides to wrestle, he will be a difficult to beat, he makes very few mistakes and is strong enough to hang with most anyone so I would never count him out of any regional match.

yes, White House HS still has a wrestling team, they're in Region 8 this year.

Hey Coach Lauderdale, I think what you want him to do is go to seaausports.com, then click on wrestling and then events. That will show you in-state AAU tournaments for High School kids (and younger kids). The AAU Regionals and State Tournament is a good series of tournaments for high school kids. If you go to the TN Wrestling Federation website they have have a pretty complete list of in-state tournaments as well as Freestyle/Greco Roman Regional tournaments. In addition, I would throw in the USA Cadet Folkstyle Nationals in Iowa the first weekend in April, its at the University of Northern Iowa. I know the original post asked for AAU/USA sanctioned events, but you might also want to look at the Jack Roller tournaments, Reno Worlds and the Mid-America Classic in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Each tournament has quality wrestlers there, in most cases it's a matter of the quantity of good wrestlers in a weight class.

That depends on what age group you want to include. Do you want to know about High School, Middle School, or Kids age groups. There are several national level tournaments with both organizations, depending on age and style of wrestling.

This was a good tournament, I'm sure that with Bill Gossett promoting it this event will continue to grow much like his Liberty Nationals event in Kansas City. This is a great venue and it really is nice to have a national level kids tournament in our backyard. I agree with walkenvol the heavier, and the lower, weights were kinda sparse this year. I know as this event goes on that will change though. As for results I can tell you that Brett Jaeckel came in first. So now it's on to the Liberty Nationals in February.

Hey RMC, are you going to be at Dixie Nationals this weekend? I was just thinking that maybe we could bring down some stuff with us when we come and look you up and give it to you to take back. I have an older son about the same size as this kid and I know we have sweats that we could give you. Let me know.

the Short, stocky kid from Tullahoma wrestling 125/130 is Dillion Crouch. A great kid with lots of heart and always coming at you. He's been that way since he started wrestling in Tullahoma in their kids program. He will be a good one by the time he gets to high school.

Hendersonville Middle School wrestling is hosting 1st Annual Commando Clash on Sat., Dec. 11th. We have thirteen teams from Middle TN coming to wrestle. We would like to have a couple more teams participate. If you have a middle school team that would like to wrestle this weekend, call Coach Wes Smith @ (615) 300-2360 or Gary Jaeckel @ (615) 424-9209 and get the details. It will be a good tournament with some very good competition.

Clarksville didn't wrestle Tullahoma. They were in opposite pools. Clarksville beat Antioch, Mt. Juliet and Hendersonville. Blackman (sharpshooters) had to go through Smyrna, West Wilson and Tullahoma. I'm not sure but I think Blackman lost to Tullahoma, but beat the other 2 teams. Tullahoma, I think, lost to West Wilson

This is the first year for this tournament, but it is being run by the same people who have run the Liberty Nationals in Kansas City for a number of years. I took my son to it last year, and it was as well run as any large national tournament we have been to, and that's been a lot. Weigh-ins are Sunday evening and wrestling starts Monday morning at 8:00 am, they should be completely finished by 7:00 - 8:00 pm on Monday. It should be a good national level tournament right in our own backyard. It has been heavily publicized and I know that a large number of kids are coming from Missouri and Kansas. you'll have to hurry to sign up as the deadline is Dec. 1st to submit applications.

this tournament is being put on by the same folks who put on the Liberty Nationals in Kansas City. I expect it will be a very well run tournament with some very good competition. This is a chance to show the rest of the wrestling world that youth wrestlers in the Southeast are competitive with anyone. I know that Brett Jaeckel will be there in the 12 under 160 lb class.

The Challenge Cup will be held the weekend of March 27th as I understand it. The Senior Nationals will be April 2 - 4th.

does anyone have any other results from the round of 16? For those of us who had to stay home, how bout letting us know?
