Wartburg going down hill? If that's the case then the rest of us are in trouble because we're still looking up at them in the 4-A standings. Oneida has gone 9-5 since an 0-4 start. They are a good basketball team and I've never heard anyone say that they were shocked to get beat up there. Wartburg has athletes I've never said they didn't but they do not have size and that will ultimately kill them. I'ld imagine that's why Davis is starting the Freels girl and Fountain now because one is 6'0 and the other plays like it. What exactly is it that beating Rockwood should make you forget? In my opinion Wartburg has been overachieving all year and will continue to unless people like you get in the way. I've come full around with their coach. I felt he did a great job beating Oakdale at Wartburg. I think if they go 6-4 in the district this year that's a solid job from him. But I've said it all along, This district will shape up like this, O.S. 9-1 Oak 7-3 (Slow and Steady wins the race) WB 6-4 (If Wartburg had a legitimate underneath player they could go 7-3) CF 5-5 One 5-5 Sun 0-10

Oneida almost beat Oakdale early in the season so I don't see this as a major upset! Also, I have never thought that the wartburg team was loaded with great talent. Outside of about three players you don't have a great team. I felt that the play that beat Oakdale shouldn't have ever happened because McWorter hacked Ruppe and it wasn't called. Oakdale will prove to be a better team in the long run. And for once I can't say that it will be due to coaching! So, amazingly I'm about to defend your coach against playermom (What a change in roles) Who should Davis sub in? Face it your team is too short to compete for anything other than the district! I can't see them really being able to handle a good post. Face it if O'dell isn't hurt for most of the first half the other night we probably win. Coach Davis can't do very much about the fact his team is short. Also, they don't appear to be very quick either. Someone needs to get their point guard some help because she may be the most out of shape player in the district! So I'll go along with that being the coaches fault. Wartburg needs to understand that they may have gotten the best out of this team already! They will finish this distric something like 6-4 or 5-5

Well there it is!!! I have got to tell you I've not heard anything better all year! I heard that the wartburg team didn't play very hard. Probably due to their 20 point win over Oneida earlier in the season. Wartburg is an overrated team in my opinion and I doubt they will come back from this loss. Oakdale Killed Sunbright tonight and now look to be in very good position to come back and finish second in the dist.

The officiating was not bad enough to take an 18 point lead away from you. I am certainly happy for all the wartburg program has accomplished, but it is pretty clear that they have not reloaded this year. It looks to me that they are in all out rebuilding mode. Just accept that your little trip to the boro is over and it's time to start learning how to win again. Good teams hold leads of 18 against teams with lesser ability. Refs or not!

Oakdale fell behind by 18 and came back to win 71-69 at DRD gymnasium! Early on we were saying that Coach Barber needed to be ousted and now he has beaten Rockwood and Wartburg! Good job coach and good job boys! I felt like we would be seeing a wartburg team go down on Friday but not in the late game. Way to Go!

Playermom, I saw the wartburg team look pretty frustrated throughout the game. You could have hung an out of order sign on their post defense. But they did beat Oakdale at their game and that is what I took from Dallas Davis Gym on Friday. We were all talking about how we were being successful slowing the wartburg team down. In the end we still lost because wartburg looked good in their sets and in all truthfulness missed some wide open shots. I believe that beating wartburg will be very difficult as long as 32 (Armes) is allowed to set things up and 22(Settles) is able to finish plays. The trouble that was mentioned in the stands is that Staten and Fountain were not playing their best right now. When they come around it could be hard to beat Wartburg. As for us, O'dell was dominant, Snow and Pease looked a little rattled at times by the pressure defense, and Ruppe needed to settle down a little. To beat wartburg we have got to put the ball under the goal and force it to O'dell! The way I see it we are still the second best team in the district behind OS. 1 Loss doesn't change much I see our girls winning out in the district. I really felt like Coalfield was going to contend for the 4A Title with Oakdale and O.S. and now they are at risk of finishing 5th. What's wrong with them?

I just don't see Oakdale allowing wartburg to run. Also, I don't think that the wartburg coach feels that he has got to run to win. I can see Pease and O'dell both scoring near 20 with wartburg's lack of size. It is just part of coaching at Oakdale we have never had a coach we liked!!! I'm only kidding.

The game turned out as expected. I didnt think wartburg was tournament ready and still don't feel that they are. They will be a problem later but now they are behind OZ and Oakdale. In all honesty, I doubt if the run was 6-0 that there was much reason to take a timeout. I talked to a few that were there and they said the team lost it's composure for about 3 possessions and then went back to work. The problem was they went cold from the floor and I saw that first hand when they played Tellico where many timeouts were taken and they still lost. They said that the girls under the goal for wartburg couldn't have shot 25 percent in the game. Is that true? Oakdale looked like they were taking it easy against Rockwood and I was impressed to see how Rockwood fought in the game. They played Oakdale tough and since they got their people back from injury they haven't been able to gel as a team.

I've been wrong about Wartburg this year. I thought that Coalfield would handle them easily and since our Oakdale team was not playing close to home went to watch them play Tellico and Unaka at the Harriman tournament and thought that they were impressive in coming back from a 20+ point late in the 4th quarter to cut it to 4 and nearly pull off the win against Tellico. The Wartburg team seems to be playing with more freedom than in the past. Wartburg does appear to give teams some problems in getting ready for them they play alot of different defenses and share the ball very well on offense. I still don't think they are as good as Oakdale but seem to have carved out the 3rd spot in 4A for themselves. With that said I'll give you my prediction Wartburg (Looks good but is still not tournament ready and at OS you've got to be tournament ready) O.S. (Has struggled lately but are still one of the top teams in East TN) O.S. 58 Wartburg 53 But I want to note that I think the Wartburg team is pushing and after watching them catch fire in the last 5 minutes vs Tellico I won't count them out of any game.

Well, I said that Coalfield would beat Wartburg without any problem. Wartburg won 57-31 in an impressive game by all accounts. I didn't see the game because I was at Oakdale but would love to hear how the lady dogs were able to win. I had heard that they were down by 10 or more in the first quarter. That is amazing! I felt like Coalfield was a State Tourney contender after their close game with Oakdale. Is Wartburg as good as this score shows. Oakdale beat Monterey last night and looked pretty good at times. ODell is a threat but she isn't scoring like I'ld like to see. I felt like our guards could have played better but Monterey probably had something to do with that.

Watching Coalfield and Oakdale play it is clear that Coalfield is for real this year. Jordan and Scarbrough are the real deal. They kept the jackets in the game for the most part. I heard that Wartburg got drilled by Clarkrange 30+ points. I saw Oakdale and Clarkrange play and it was pretty close. 15 points I think. So with that said I can give a gameday summary Oakdale 56 Monterey 49 Monterey can't match our size and we will do a better job dealing with their point guard than coalfield did. Coalfield 74 Wartburg 59 I just don't think wartburg can match athletes with the likes of Landrum, Jordan, Scarbrough, and Walls

Well it's a win, but I think that Oakdale is much better than they played tonight. Also, the reports I'm hearing from the Wartburg game is that they are unable to score the ball. Heard they had a sound defensive effort for the majority of the game but failed to make even easy shots. Even though I've been a critic of Coach Davis i think that it is fair to say that nobody saw their trip to the range being any different. The scoring thing could be the result of growing pains. I know when we played Clarkrange they could have beaten us by 30 but they put their jv in at the end of the third quarter. I was told that they didn't sub on wartburg. On the flipside, I felt like Coach Snow could have done a little better preparing O'Dell for the physical play under the goal. She should have just let a couple of the shots go rather than contesting to keep herself in the game offensively. Coalfield didn't have anyone that could compete with her.

I've told everyone that Wartburg isn't going to be anywhere close to where they should be for ever now. They have talent but it takes more than talent. Talked to a guy that was at their game and he said that they quit about half way through the second quarter and JD pushed them the rest of the way home. He actually said that Davis did a pretty good job. He was like you playermom he said it was the first time he had ever seen JD not bench the entire team for playing the way they played early in the first. I cant imagine why he didn't blow up. I watched him blow up on his team last year in the Middle School and was glad he was at WB and not Oakdale. I guess if I was giving an opionon on the team now it would be that JD is a bit stronger in X's and O's and much more adult like, than I had said early on. Look like a state tournament team to me.....If Oakdale or O.S. slip they could be the team to beat.

I guess this is a backdoor compliment to Wartburg. The look to me to be a team that is capable of beating anyone or losing to anyone. I just don't think they get up for teams that are not considered good. So for a prediction I'll say Harriman 39 Wartburg 31 as the dogs stay winless out of district. And an Early prediction for their Coalfield Game Coalfield 71 Wartburg 69 Coalfield will not have to even play well just need to stay out of foul trouble. Landrum, Jordan,Newberry, Scarbrough, and Stedam look to me to be the best lineup Coalfield has and will give major trouble to the Wartburg Team. Also i think that Oakdale is 12-15 points better than coalfield but couldn't predict a score now.

I think they finish possibly second in the district behind oakdale. They should give O.S. a run and will easily beat Wartburg. So I think reg. season they finish third in the district and should have an outstanding chance to get to the finals of the 4A tournament.

ChillR, Ok I'll get that one going. Sunbright's coach isn't very good, they appear to have some talent, but they will never be a serious threat to make the region without a much better coach. Didn't see the game but was told that they were down 37-1 against Wartburg. Hope this makes you feel like they are a part of the Dist now. The O.S. and Oakdale game was a great one. They should go at each other 3 more times this year. They are clearly the best in the region.

Oliver Springs defense was very good. They held us to only 33 points. I thought we had a lot of trouble scoring.

Oneida lost to Oakdale by 5! This is a good win for wartburg. Oakdale beat up on Rockwood tonight. They played really hard and aggressive from the start. How did Coalfield only beat Rockwood by 1? Did Wartburg Press Oneida? How many players did the Dogs play in the rotation? Oneida played Oakdale in a 2-3 is that the same thing they showed at wartburg tonight?

I had heard that one of the posts had close to 20 points so they must have played well. Too bad for wartburg they didn't get more of that. Kaz, What do you base your idea that Coach Davis understands X's and O's? Just curious. This weekend will tell us how the district stacks up as Oakdale plays Clarkrange! Lady Eagles State Bound!!!

I think that this will be a very close game for Oakdale. It would appear to me that Oakdale and O.S. will be making some distance between themselves and the rest of the Region early on in the season. This will just be a good exam of where they stand right now! Oakdale in an upset 51 - 49 State Bound Lady Eagles!!
