I think that O'dell will dominate to the point that Oakdale will beat O.S. due to the foul trouble and the rebounding that O'dell brings to the table. Oakdale should be on top and I've been saying that for sometime now! I like your observation about wartburg. Except something didn't set well with me following their scrimmage the other day. I have never seen a team that Jason coached play poor defense and everyone is telling me that their scrimmage had weak defense. Now I don't like his coaching but his teams usually did play good zone defense for middle school. I'm just playing a feeling here but I am betting that we didn't see much of the things this team will use in the regular season. A close friend of mine told me that they just ran Dallas Davis's defense and Offense. Now. I heard they ran all kinds of sets, presses, and half court traps over the summer. So, I'm not sure we weren't played by the coach to lower expectations and get everyone talking about their match-up zone. The district had better be ready to see all kinds of things from the Wartburg team. And I'm talking from experience here, don't get stunk in to thinking you can predict what they will be running. Didn't Wartburg finish 4th last year in the regular season with basically the same players? If they make it to the region that's all that should be expected. Oakdale and O.S. are the cream of the District and all the rest are playing for third place anyway.

Ok Ok, I've been pretty hard on the Wartburg team so here is I suppose a compliment. I'm hearing from the land of blue and white that the lady dogs lost in their scrimmage against york by 11. Was told that the score was 65 to 54. I'm wondering if they stopped the clock or if they ran it. I will have to say if it was a running clock then I'm almost impressed with the number of points that were scored by both teams. All things aside I think York is a very good program in AA. Now, that said the person I talked to felt like the team would have won if the coach hadn't substituted so much. She said that it was a revolving door at every dead ball. Didn't get any info on who led the team in stats or anything. Anybody have any info?

WHOA THERE PLAYERMOM!!!!! I don't think that prediction is too far off. This Coach Davis will certainly have the same legacy as the previous one........30 years and not 1 trip to the boro! This team is not very good!! I watched them last year and they will not get along with one another. Too concerned with self and not ready for the next step. Wartburg will finish 5th but Oakdale and I'm telling you I know what I'm talking about here will dominate Ya HEAR!!

I just don't see it ending up that way. KC is as you say the it factor but Oakdale will be much stronger down low. They will put O.S. in foul trouble and beat them with their front line. Also, Coalfield should be able to at least challenge O.S. with the addition of an it girl of their own in freshman AJ! She may be the best athlete in the district right now. So, I've got to think that Oakdale, O.S. and Coalfield could possibly be a toss up this season. Also, i feel that wartburg could be the odd man out. I'm not trying to say they are bad players of people the girls have ego's and it's up to the coach to deal with them. I just don't see a first year coach having the ability to really get after the girls and make them do things his way. I feel the district will go 1. Oakdale 2. O.S. 3. Coalfield 4. Wartburg/Oneida 5. Wartburg/Oneida 6. Sunbright

How could you say that O.S. is better at this point than Oakdale. O.S. lost Copeland Parton Smith and Oakdale lost nobody! I just think that Oakdale will have the best team due to the fact that they have played together for a very long time and have the ability to beat most district teams with their height alone.

playermom, I don't know what wartburg has been doing in the offseason so I really can't comment on that. If they are working hard in practice that is good also. I only saw them play at Lenoir City Camp this summer and only one game at that i think it was farragut. They didn't look very good in that one to me. To be fair though that was just one game in a 5 day camp. I had heard that they hadn't worked out this fall from a pretty reliable source. If the wartburg team finishes top 3 and challenges for the region it would probably be a pretty good year. Oakdale should compete for the Dist and Region Titles and get to a substate and I think that OS is in the same situation. Wartburg is left competing for 3rd or 4th with Coalfield, Sunbright, and Oneida. They are not one of the best teams in the district. Let's change the topic. Which players do you all expect to play big for each team?

First, I will judge him by his body of work completely. If he comes out in a 2-3 zone and tries to post the girls up that he has they won't win a game. He cant teach them to run effectively because to do that you have got to let players play a little bit an he's way too structured for that. I just don't see him taking them in that direction because from what I see he is a control freak. Second, I never saw his teams run anything else Third, He will not be able to handle the girls. They will never listen to him. But if he gets in the top three in the district then I'll be the first to eat my words concerning his coaching and his team. So I will judge him by his body of work. Wartburg lost Jones and Oakdale lost nobody from a team that won 20 games last year. So I don't believe that the lady dogs are as talented as the lady eagles. It would be hard to argue that losing a very athletic Sr. in Ashley Jones is a positive.

Yeah I agree with you Oldschool! But You have got to remember Oakdale was the better team last year 20wins. They had a bad night in the tourney and that's it. Wartburg didn't beat oakdale as much as oakdale lost the game. As far as coaching I can tell you the new coach davis isn't what this program needed up front before the season. He hasn't got the passion or the drive to run his team. All he knows is a 2-3 zone and how to post up. Wartburg will be less than a true threat for the Dist and may not make it to the region. I have never questioned the talent of the bulldogs. If they play together and dump their ego's they could win the District in spite of their coach. But with this new guy in there they will not be able to handle adverse or difficult situations. I've seen players at CHS tear each other apart when dallas (the legend) was there. What do you think they'll do with the (myth) in charge?

Not sure what you mean? Was the Sunbright Coach not there? Truth of the matter is they beat us straight up. But our coaches are doing alot to teach our young men to play hard and how to deal with adveristy. I'm trying to be positive here.

No contest in this one! Oneida has a pretty good team and we are not nearly there yet.

I was wanting to know what everyone thought of the new coaches in the county. What do they seem to be doing well, and not so well? My vote if you were ranking them in terms of early success you would have to say First would be Strickland at Oakdale (They do look better than maybe any time in the last 4-5 years) Second would be Harrison at Sunbright ( He seems tough and is trying to make the boys better men if they would get over newberry they would be a solid team) Last would be Bangley at Wartburg they should be used to this position after the last few years (The streak could be very long before Coach Bangley leaves the dog pound) But they are all 0-2 so i guess some will say that none are very good

Prior to about 1994ish the Wartburg and Coalfield programs were both A and played very even to one another. That was not my point. I am talking about since WB began grossly outgrowing schools like CF, Oak, and Sun. When wartburg frist moved to AA they beat coalfield something like 5 of 7 times (I may be wrong on the exact number. That seemed to me that they were pulling away due to the number of kids in the school) Now the dogs have lost the last 3 meetings...i think again I don't follow this as closely as you do...You know it all @##! But here goes It seems like I remember the WB baseball coach winning something like his first 12 games vs CF, Boys basketball beat CF as a rule, and I'm sure that Mr. Davis (Dallas) has a winning record against every county team. So it seemed to me that the number of kids in WB was beginning to influence the outcome of games vs county opponents. Now pull some state championship out of your #@@, and tell me about some basketball game that was played 50 years ago but the point that was made is since their school grew to over 400 students they seemed to start being more dominant over other county schools. Now here's an example since 1998 wartburg has a winning record against every county school in every sport except football where I think they trail CF. So for a time it did seem that their numbers made them dominant over the rest of the county. But I'm through arguing with a vertically challenged man with ego problems. Let me settle this in a way that will make you happy, COALFIELD IS GREAT, A FAR SUPERIOR COMMUNITY IN ALL WAYS TO ANY OTHER IN THE COUNTY! Now are you happy?

Cy I wasn't talking just trips to M'Boro or even about George Lowe...and as far as Oakdale goes I don't think you can educate me very much on that. If you read my post you noticed that I am not from Wartburg nor do I root for them on a consistent basis. I am in fact from Oakdale. The point I was trying to make is that AA schools don't really have that much to gain playing A schools. Any time a A school can beat a school in an upper classification it is a great positive. And it's true wartburg held a 1 game lead in the series. But I think the lead should be much more given that they are a bigger school and play better competition. Beating a A team should be routine for AA schools and right now I'm not sure that wartburg could beat Oakdale in a real game. Thats how far down they have come. So to recap for ya CY-RETARD Wartburg Stinks in Football and a school with over 400 should almost always beat one with 190 or whatever (Except in special cases like coalfield they have a great recruiting pipeline) Glad you guys in coalfield have Football and that baseball state championship thing It helps you make up for lack of education you give your children. How about one of your football players actually graduating college! Oneida will beat the Jackets 20-7 They will never go to a state tournament in boys basketball EVER!!! Maybe someday the rest of us in A will be able to rent out trailers to athletes from other counties so we can win games also! I don't think it would be like a state championship. We've got to put things in perspective AA schools are supposed to beat A schools. Thats how far Wartburg has fallen the last couple of years but you've got to remember prior to the fall wartburg was more than just competitive with CF. They dominate everyone in boys basketball because they are much bigger (school size) and better coached and girls ball they win the majority of their games in the county (based on a little scouting trip I took this summer that shouldn't change with the new coach There I said it and it nearly killed me!) I dont care for the guy but they did look good! Baseball is the same way so when the dogs get the boys out they will be the best football team in the county. And they'll have what comes with that which is nothing. Honestly morgan county football is not very good this year. And I don't look for it to improve next year very much. When they get through this cycle of players mainly their senior class you'll see things start to turn around for them where A teams are concerned. Coalfield had better get the dogs this year from what I saw at the scrimmage at Oakdale their Fresh. and Soph. Class is loaded with very good skill players! But are they ready for AA competition 2 years away from being anywhere close to anyone in that region except maybe O.S. As for this game I'm taking Coalfield 28-12 over the dogs. And I'm praying that Oakdale can get a W some time soon!

I thought that both teams played very hard. Overall I cant say that I saw any real improvement in the wartburg team over years past. I am from Oakdale but truthfully wartburg has been better than us during each of the last two seasons much better and if we had been on the schedule i doubt that there would be a streak of any kind to talk about. Tonight the score was 22-20 and for my money all the dogs proved is that they are able to play with a team that is likely to finish near the bottom of their A division. I don't know how long it's going to be before either team is competitive but you've got to say Oakdale is likely to be in the playoffs long before Wartburg simply based on the difference between A and AA. Good luck to both teams and i wish that both could go undefeated, but sadly i think it will stay just that a wish.

The reason that Wartburg can't find a coach is because nobody wants to coach there!

Rebuilding with 15 upperclassmen! Also, I've heard that some of their players are going to change uniforms and come down Coalfield's way! O.K. so I must correct myself on the rumour that he doesnt get along with the Point Guard. I will still say that 2 or 3 of the wartburg players will leave before next season to play at Coalfield. I know this for fact! Coalfield will finish no worse than 3rd and Wartburg will be 5th behind Oneida. You just watch and see!

I still think they should hire the middleschooler! The way he teaches his girls to thug it up, he might make the move to football pretty well!

To me on the outside looking in it seems that you lost a pretty good coach that just happened to be in a really bad program! In wartburg, losing should not be thought of as anything more than a continuation of tradition. Maybe they'll hire a middle schooler to coach the football team also! Can't wait until The Jackets and Dogs Square off next season. Your season is over before it even starts. Go Jackets!

My only point is this, I am a Coalfield Fan, but the dist is not going to be very good next year. Sure it will be competitive within itself not when it goes outside of East TN. If Kayla went to Webb that would be possibly the best High School Team in the last 25 years in the State. Could you imagine a team that wins 3 consecutive State Tourneys? Looking forward to what OS has returning. I think they're a lock to get back to the state. I just don't see them advancing after the 1st rd. Oakdale will be a real threat and Coalfield will be a spoiler likely to knock Wartburg off next year. OS is better than everybody but kayla at Webb would be alot of fun to watch. Go Jackets!

I think it's a shame for her personally. She deserves to be a state champion and I just don't see it happening for OS the next two years. Good luck to Kayla! From my sources in OS she is possibly gone. I think it would be a good move for Kayla. She'ld get the exposure of playing in Knoxville and might go something and 0 for her last 2 years of High School!

Wartburg should just end football. Knight2 I think their problem is the reg they play in. I'm glad Coalfield is not in it!
