1. Nice sarcasm, your right not that big of a deal, unless you compare it to some others schedules. Where might you be from Hammer Head? Maybe we can dissect your teams schedule to see how your team stacks up.

I invite you to look at PF schedule and tell me what you think. May be the toughest schedule of any AA team around, and tougher than most AAA teams irregardless of district.

I'm from AC. I am a member of the Dugout club. My schedule is having raffles to make up for deficits in budgets for purchased equipment.

  2. So are you saying he can beat you at tennis also. haha.

Head coach of UT basketball didn't play college ball. Head coach of New Jersey Nets, Lawerence Frank, never played HS, College, or Pro Ball.

What is your point exactly? That a guy that didn't play HS or College Ball can't coach? Some people are born to be coaches in different sports, coaches just coach, has nothing to do with their playing ability or availability. Coach Guinn has shown he can flat out coach. Some say its his players, let's see how someone like Tommy Pharr does without great players. Players make coaches, always have always will, no matter who the coach is. Great coaches are great motivators, teachers, and they mold young boys into men. I don't know of a single player who hasn't been better in some way by playing for coach Guinn.

Thanks for the insight Ms. Guinn.

  3. I stand corrected, they have been to 2 state tourneys, finishing 2nd in '05 and final 4 in '06. PF also played in 1 other sectional which was last year under Guinn. PF has 7 seniors this year. 3 were freshman in Cannon's last year, and played very little if any. Then PF hired Bramlett for 1 year and he ran the program into the ground, and none of the players got any better. Since Guinn took over last year, those seniors along with the others have definitely gotten much better. I'm sure if you ask them they would tell you the same thing. PF was not loaded with talent when Guinn took over, quite the contrary. A few good players, and some with potential. Now you are starting to see that potential reached with many of the Seniors and Juniors. One Junior, in particular quit last year, only to come back this year, and is now 3-1 on the hill for PF. A senior golfer came out this year for the first time and is playing really well. A junior wrestler came out this year for the 1st time and is playing well as a DH/IF/backup catcher. Coach Guinn does develop talent! He always has. Look at the AC teams, lots of player development. You talk about how these guys played for Guinn for several years for the Stars. Some of them since they were 8 or 9. Well, just who do you think developed those guys? The answer their coach MIKE GUINN. To say that Coach Guinn wins but doesn't develop talent is sort of like talking out of both sides of your mouth. He has had at least 4 pitchers in the last 4 years, who all have reached the 90 mph mark at least occasionally, and the ones at AC were doing it before Downs took over. Now there is a coach who inherited a lot of talent, the talent that Coach Guinn developed. Farmer, White, Price, York, Rorex, Foster, Greeson, and others.

I have been reading this with interest. Coach Guinn sounds like a great coach. I am interested in speaking with him about a job. I will call the High school and talk to him. Would you know any of the following:

Education- What school does he have a teaching degree from? What subjects is he able to teach?

Experience- Where did he play his college baseball?

Longevity- Why did he leave Anderson County High School if they have a great program and returning players?

Coaching experience- Did he ever coach any teams besides what his sons have played on?

I guess I will just ask him those things.

    Thanks

  4. He's pretty cool, I just hope his average doesn't go down, he tends to get alot of back spasms. I mean batting average spasms. But those spasms only occur at those low batting average and pitching times. /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" /> /motorbike.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":motorbike:" border="0" alt="motorbike.gif" /> /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

  5. What happened with the altercation?

Who knows, it could be he threw a sombrero at his coach or a tortilla, haven't heard for sure. He gets his mexican heritage from the Green Acres Flea Market. /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" /> /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

  6. Haha, i dont blame you for saying that.....i would say the same thing, i had just heard from a friend that he missed the maryville game because of an altercation with the coach but i don't know much about how he has been playing.

The altercation- was that with his coach or the opposing team? I heard last year that during warm ups in the infield he was throwing trying to hit the Seymour coach. Imagine that?

  7. I don't think TSSAA will say it is a violation of the all star rule. However, if no admission is charged then there isn't a violation anyway. Because the way the rule is written:

(An all-star game is defined as any contest (where admission is charged either directly or indirectly) in which one or both teams is composed of players selected from two or more regularly constituted teams. )

For this to be recognized as an all star game two things would have to occur; admission is charged and teams are composed of players selected from two or more regularly constituted teams. Even though the word 'and' is not in the definition it is inferred. One could even argue the interpretation of the meaning of regularly constituted teams.

While we scratching our heads on this, I have heard of one prominent Knoxville High School team that is going to have fall scrimmages off campus. They are going to split up in two teams and do this off of school property. Legal or illegal?

  8. Jeff Browning from South-Doyle will be announced as the new baseball coach at Anderson County.

Anderson County not only got a fine individual but a good coach. Coach Browning is a knowledgeable, ethical and hard working teacher as well as a coach. Good Luck Coach Browning!

  9. OK Auburn08, you like to use the dictionary so let me resort to logic.

You coach at a school that is within 5 miles of your house. Your 2 sons will be a senior and junior next year, and play multiple sports. You have brought in kids from 2 other counties to make a stronger than usual AA team. You have made major improvements to the facilities, and you can use that field to hold tournaments in the summer to raise money. You went undefeated last year in district play in one of the toughest AA districts in TN. You graduated some good players, but you have a good core returning.

You can leave that school and go to a school that is 55 miles away from your house. Move your sons to a school where they will not know anybody, and make it difficult for them to play multiple sports because of distance from home. You will only have kids from a limited area of Sevier County. The field has been let go and is in pretty bad shape, and you cannot use it for tournaments in the summer (the school board just put a stop to that.) The team barely finished over .500 last year, got run-ruled several times and played in one of the weakest AA districts in TN. You have a lot of kids returning, but not at the talent level that exists at your current school.

Combine the facts above with the goal of returning to the State Tournament, and I think the logical decision is easy. Stay at AC.

However, if you throw in the possibility that PF has offered him alot more money, or something happened at AC to either force or make him want to leave, things begin to make sense.

I don't deal in bitterness, just cold hard facts. Now you can make your logical argument of why he would move to PF, and don't use the meth lab thing because he will still be living in Norris.

What college did the former AC coach attend? What is he capable of teaching? Where did he play his college baseball at? Just curious, I read where he has great credentials, what are they?

  10. You sound very bitter.

Not at all, you must be a mind reader to know when someone is bitter when there is nothing negative said. I made the statement time will tell, that is true about everything in life. Politics have got alot of people jobs that probably shouldn't have got it over someone else. Also politics make people lose jobs. Let's keep our ears open and see what we might hear.

  11. You better pick another position because you can't anger me on this subject. In the Universe of Baseball, PF is just a microscopic speck of dust, light years away from anything that matters. I could care less. I'm just interested in finding out the real reason Coach Guinn left AC to go to PF.

He says he wants to go back to the State Tournament. This move has most certainly hurt his chances.

Time will tell! Or maybe someone from AC might know?

  12. OK- I've tried to ignore this, but I can't... I doubt that Mike Hamilton is telling his coaches that they have to get all the local talent to come to Tennessee. He wants talent- period! 3 juniors from UT were drafted in the top 40 spots this year! I'd say that's a pretty talented set of recruits!

As for your list...none of those players went to Vandy either. So Tim Corbin must have done a poor job of recruiting? No! The needs of the players and their families didn't match up with the needs of the universities! They obviously were able to find schools they liked and situations they liked (some after more than one attempt at a school by the way) at universities that needed the talent they could provide. Perhaps they even got some scholarship compensation! None of that says that UT did a poor job by not getting those players!

Oh- since the original topic was Farragut baseball....I understand that they didn't really lose many seniors this year and have a good stock of talent coming back! Many of the returning players played in last year's state championship and will bring that talent and experience back for junior and senior years that show a great deal of promise!

If he had three juniors that were drafted in the top 40 spots, sounds like they had talent. Wonder why they cannot make the NCAA tournmanet the last two years? I believe that Mike Hamilton wants a successful team that is in the running for the SEC championship every year. I know it is not possible to win the SEC for anyone every year, but be more competitive than TN has been. This will attract hometown talent as well as talent from all over the country. For Example, look how TN basketball recruiting has changed. Players that are being recruited by Duke, NC, are also considering TN. No knock on Coach D., just the facts. A famous quality management person once said, "Change is the only constant."

  13. QUOTE(DugoutDad @ Jun 14 2007 - 01:30 PM) 826475049I'm actually replying to Hozr's post.... That post was very well put. There have been several local HS baseball graduates that "elected" to go elsewhere than UT to continue their baseball career. All had their individual reasons. I think it's grossly unfair to criticize the UT baseball program on a wholesale level on that point.

The end result is they didn't attend TN for various reasons. His job as a coach and recruiter is to get them to come there to further their education and play baseball. I do not know every reason, but I am very aware of a few of them. I believe each Division I school is alloted the same number of scholarships, so everyone has that to work from. This is not meant to criticize, just posting some facts on a message board.

  14. QUOTE(1moreDBmom @ Jun 11 2007 - 09:44 AM) 826473775Rod Delcomonica's son Tony was a sophomore this year at UT. He was listed as the starting SS this season but he was mostly used as the Designated hitterafter getting off to a rocky start with a .175 BA through the first 8 games. He pulled out of the season with astounding numbers however. Rod's younger son Joey was a Junior this year at Farragut. Like his older brother he too hit out of the DH spot for Farragut most of the year. There is a third son to watch for as well in the upcoming years. It looks like Delmonico knows a thing or 2 about hitting!

Tommy Pharr has been the head coach at Farragut for a few years now.

I do understand why everyone was screaming that UT does not select local players. Of the 45 boys on the roster 4 were Farragut boys and 5 were from Miami. A total of 18 of the 45 boys were from Tennessee. Perhaps this was one of the reasons Delmonico was relieved of his duties. There may have actually been 2 roads into the UT Baseball program, Miami and Farragut seem to have been the ticket to land on the UT team.

Look at the local players Delmonico missed out on in just the past several years

    - Rob Catapano- North Carolina- Farragut

    - Tyler Cannon- Virginia- Pigeon Forge

    - Harrison Eldridge- East Carolina- Farragut

    - Chad Bell- Memphis- South Doyle

    - Chris Kirkland- now with Memphis- South Doyle

    - Ryan Holland- Memphis- South Doyle

    - Cody Hawn- Arkansas- South Doyle

    - Matt Spencer- Arizona State- Morristown East

    - Brett Basham- Ole Miss- Bearden

    - Michael McKenry- MTSU- Farragut

    - Cale Iorg- Alabama- Karns

QUOTE(bravos2007 @ May 30 2007 - 09:20 AM) 826469019now dont get me wrong im a fan of title 9 and all its just that this is ridiculus u have "athletic" scholarships given to girls who have done nothing to deserve them (meaning not played the sport) while u have other women and men playing their hearts out in school and making the grades all 4 nothing i mean dont get me wrong we need equality but not when it comes with an injustice to another sector of the public this is an example of the government trying to help the little people and it not working the way it should.

Memphis U.'s baseball team is under same guidelines as UT's, somehow they attracted those players.

  16. QUOTE(seymourbsbll19 @ May 26 2007 - 07:37 PM) 826467768Haha, not to kill the high the old Kees have from Murfreesboro, but it just didnt happen for them this year. Nor the parents or the team ever expected to get beat twice down there...one being the Championship game that a few of the Dads on the team have been dreaming of since their sons were 11. I know the majority of the team and there is a few I woulda like to seen get that ring, but for the others...i hate it for ya. haha. /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> And by the way, SD will never have a chance to get back to state, they have nothing coming back. Time to hit up Bower Field for some recruits Roberto Howard.

South Doyle had a very good season this year defeating Seymour twice. If I got beat the way you did this year by them I wouldn't make such an ignorant post. I believe your team got one hit the first game and the second game there was 16 K's. Sounds like there needs to be some Bower field recruiting on your end. Not to kill the high of the Eagles, haha:lol: /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Please tell Scotto Norman

  17. QUOTE(WTRSD63 @ May 26 2007 - 04:01 PM) 826467641Cody tore his ACL in Coach Browning gym class playing football i think

Ryan White and he tore his MCL the same week Cody tore his ACL in the same class playing football

Ryan White tore his ACL, not MCL, in gym class about a week after Cody Hawn tore his ACL. Cody was going to play third base-Arkansas signee. Ryan White is a junior I think and he was going to play second base. South Doyle had a great season to make it to the state championship game without these two great ballplayers. South Doyle's lineup would have been pretty scary. Anyways, good luck to South Doyle next year- maybe they can do what Bartlett did- lose in the state championship game only to come back and win it all the next year.
