  1. I don't think that we are complacent. Did you notice how many starters are standing on the sidelines with their letter jackets on? Not many teams could still be as good as we are missing so many starters.
  2. Maryville is the best in 4A, but after these past few games, I'm questioning the best in the state. Now, I may be wrong, but I know plenty of teams can't stay on the field with Maryville, but I think a team like Franklin is a whole lot better than Powell. Or possibly Germantown, etc. But I would concentrate on being the best in 4A, which you all definitely are, no doubt in my mind. Maryville did not really believe that either William Blount or Powell could beat them. If you asked the players after the Powell game, no one thought that they would not come back big and win the game. Even when they were down by 14 points. They knew Milligan was a decent back, he had a good game, But if that had been a playoff game he would not have got a sniff at hundred yards. Before William Blount the starters had not even played past the 2nd quarter. The next game to use as a measure will be Central. That should be a good one. --Kemple
  3. ____________________________________________________________ The Center is Brandon Waters. I do not know if he is any taller than last year, but he is a solid 30 pounds heavier. He is a hoss at 6'2" 250-60 lbs. The entire line is bigger and stronger than last year and the four three year starters have already played more games than most high schoolers play during their entire high school career. See ya in December
  4. No, objectivity is a "learned" skill. Not going to the bathroom in your pants is an "acquired" skill. I think you better check your shorts. You know, if you were half as good as you think at picking winners based on your superior analytical skills you'd be living on the Ritz somewhere instead of boring us with your self absorbed football pap. 5. To SCHS3 Not that I care one way or the other about these national ratings, but I cannot resist commenting on the logic of your argument. You have not seen Maryville play and appearently do not even know what teams are in the poll since you don't know where to find them, but somehow you have deduced that Maryville can not possible belong there? Dartboard, Pencil drop, swags, what is your method of appraisal? I think it is an cinch you are not captain of the debate team? MRSODDYDAISY is basing his judgment in the same way we all do when we cannot empirically prove something: observation and experience. I know nothing about the other teams in the poll so will not make any judgment as to where or whether Maryville belongs. But I do know this from observation and experience: this is a good team; they were a very good team before they lost their starting quarterback. Not a knock on the current starter, but he's not in the same league as the junior that tore his ACL. Will this team go to or win the state? I do not know; they have a lot of work to do. This team in spite of deficientcies in size and speed and a number of other factors I'm sure have managed to win two state championships against opponents that had more size and speed, etc. The heart of a champion is a difficult factor to put a measurement on. In 2000 this team as sophomores soundly defeated a Memphis East team that was bigger, faster, more experienced, and the defending state champion. Some of the coaches at UT, (several live in Maryville), predicted Maryville would lose by 40 points. I will direct you to Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant: In a dogfight, it's not the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog that matters.
  6. To understand the success of Blount County football you have to the see the feeder programs. In the county/city, feeder leagues start as young as 5-6 years old. These kids play with and against each other all the way to Middle School in all sports. They then attend their respective schools. The competition between these schools is a strong thread in the community and would hurt sports in general if they did not play. Most of Maryville players have friends on the county teams. After the game is over, it's over and they get a chance to see old team mates. It's really neat. In the playoffs and State Games, many Alcoa/Heritage/William Blount fans were there pulling for Maryville and vise versa.
  7. Sorry [Edited by RedReb on 9-24-02 12:00A]
  8. We won the game why don,t you just let that be enough. Move on and stop rubbing it in. Which position did you play?
  9. Nice Post GoodSpeed03. I meet some of the Mo-West parents before the game and saw how you guys conducted yourselves after a tuff loss - Total Class. Win or Loss it is an honor to play a well coached team like the Trojans. There were no cheap shots just two good programs going at it. Morristown is a good football team, I am glad we don't have to play you this week and feel sorry for whoever it is. The players know that Maryville is not 40 points better. Sorry we have some fans that sit on the sidelines then want to come on these message boards and shoot their mouths off, it is not our players I can assure. Good luck on the season and I hope we see you down the road.
  10. I know that Halls has played a couple of good teams beside Maryville. Who has Powell played and what are their records?
  11. OK Cowboys, First, let me say that I agree with you on the late hit on Rouse. These things happen when players play aggressively and I do not believe the DB player had intent to harm Alex. Now about the dirty play let me see if I have it: Our players aren't dirty they are just confused and don't know which way to block, which makes them frustrated and aggresive, causing them to act out on the field with pushes, shoves, trashing talking, and taunting. We parents and fans are clueless, and blind,(and I guess deaf too!), and do not know what our players, (Sons), are doing or saying on the field or what Coach Quarles might be keeping from us. The refs are not very good and can not tell a chop block from a seal block, nor can they tell a late hit, a shove, or hear the trash talking and taunting. The films that you watch allow you to see and hear all these offenses, and or, you talk about them to Coach Quarles. Cowboys have you ever told your good friend George that you think his team is the dirtiest team around? Do you think that it is a little unfair to label the Proud Maryville Program as dirty due to the actions of one player in 1999, who by the way I agree with you on? Do you think you are not biased when you refer to our players as "those poor little Maryville boys,ie, who act so innocent".? Does it seem strange to you that the refs never see these offenses on film? Has it occurred to you how visible the Maryville program is and how involved some of us parents and fans are, and how much time we spend around these players? Do you really think we do not have a CLUE about what goes on? I talk to my son all the time about the games, practices, his play(good and bad),other players, coaches, helmets, cleats, grass on the field,etc...IT'S Maryville Football for goodness sake. I really wish you no ill feelings. We are proud of this program, warts and all, and can stand any criticism as long as its fair and honest. I just think that your criticism is neither.
  12. ____________________________________________________________ I am fine with criticism, but what you are saying is just plain NOT TRUE and I think you have a negative bias when it comes to our program. Coach Quarles and Coach Ellis,(Line Coach),just will not put up with the kind of play. I have been around the program and have a son that plays, and I've known and seen these "little boys" play since they were nine years old. You will not find a finer group of young men anywhere, and I think their accomplishments say something very special about them. Have there been players who get out of line from time to time, sure, (some have been asked off the team), but as a program Maryville is TOTAL CLASS on the field and off.
  13. Oldreb, Like I told RebelRon last year. Don't let Cowboys get your goat. He has a burr under his saddle when it comes to Maryville. Please pass the SOUR GRAPES COWBOYS
